Red Star is open again! It's a bit different, but it still feels like Red Star. There are now TV's and they will generally have either a game on or an old movie (the other night I was there they were playing an Akira Kurosawa film). Â They no longer allow smoking which some people aren't exactly happy about, but other people probably greatly enjoy.
They have a pretty decent beer selection and super cheap PBR. The bar staff is very nice and they are very quick. I haven't really ordered any mixed drinks so I can't speak to their quality, but I haven't heard any complaints.
Personally, I'm really glad to have Red Star back.
Came here during the downtown pub crawl for the parade (mardi gras)
We didnt care much for a pub crawl, just the $2 a can Abita Jackammo IPA. After 15 minutes of being in a chill bar smoking a cig, the place got MEGA packed. The tunes were blasting, and it was freakin loud as hell.
Hard to have a conversation.
We just ordered a bunch of beer and took them with us and left.
During the week, Id probably hit this place up and avoid the mega crowds on the weekend, but that's just me. If you like minimalist bars that are loud and get packed, this is your place.
Limited beer selection, but they got Abita and Guiness.
Reasonably priced.
