Red Star is open again! It's a bit different, but it still feels like Red Star. There are now TV's and they will generally have either a game on or an old movie (the other night I was there they were playing an Akira Kurosawa film).  They no longer allow smoking which some people aren't exactly happy about, but other people probably greatly enjoy.

They have a pretty decent beer selection and super cheap PBR. The bar staff is very nice and they are very quick. I haven't really ordered any mixed drinks so I can't speak to their quality, but I haven't heard any complaints.

Personally, I'm really glad to have Red Star back.

Came here during the downtown pub crawl for the parade (mardi gras)

We didnt care much for a pub crawl, just the $2 a can Abita Jackammo IPA. After 15 minutes of being in a chill bar smoking a cig, the place got MEGA packed. The tunes were blasting, and it was freakin loud as hell.

    Hard to have a conversation.

We just ordered a bunch of beer and took them with us and left.

During the week, Id probably hit this place up and avoid the mega crowds on the weekend, but that's just me. If you like minimalist bars that are loud and get packed, this is your place.

Limited beer selection, but they got Abita and Guiness.

    Reasonably priced.

This is the BEST bar in baton rouge. Thanks to the skinny jeans, all 50 hipsters can easily squeeze up to the bar for an over priced high life. When I need a huge dose of self important casually ironic nonchalance, this is the spot!!!

Hipster heaven.  You aren't cool enough to be at this bar, why are you even here?

I went to this bar every week for over a year and the door people and bartenders never stopped treating me like shit. Oh well I guess they taught me something: don't expect jerks to treat you with anything less than jerkiness!

Other than that, they have cool bands come through every now and then and it is one of the only places in BR to hear live indie music. I kept going for a reason, its a cool place frequently by cool people, just don't expect for this to become your "Cheers".

If you go, check out the back patio- it's cute, skeezy and cozy all at the same time!

This was the afterparty for a major concert a few months back.

Line was out the door!!!  Luckily we got in b/c we had VIP tickets...haha suckers!

Packed packed packed!  Tables had the worst lighting coming from the side, so if you were to lean across the table, it's not flattering to ANYONE over 27!

I give this place three stars b/c some random guy yelled he loved me.  HAHAHAHAHA....that's funny!

I went to see a friend perform with his heavy metal band.  The great thing about this place is that you could tell some folks just happened to be there (not for the band) but they totally got into the music...not just because it was great but because this seems like the type of place that draws customers with ecclectic tastes.  I say this because there was one dude who looked like a morman totally rocking out and knew ALL the words to the metal covers which was quite surprising.  They also had one superfan wearing 1996 era Gap jorts, a clean cut haircut, white sneakers, and white tube socks who also knew not only every cover but every ORIGINAL.  Maybe I have lost touch with the metal scene and there is a new breed of fan out there but color me surprised is all I'm saying.
The beer was cheap, the band kicked ass, and the crowd was great.  I really want to check out their karaoke night which is supposed to be hilarious.  All in all a really fun night out on the town...especially for a Tuesday.

Definitely a cool place if you end up in the business center of Baton Rouge, fun people cheap drinks hilarious locals singing 70' and 80's karaoke. Great nite out on our last leg in Louisiana. I even snagged an Abita beer mug. Thanks Red Star*

O -check out Rasputin vodka ,which has a good selection of vodka. The prices are a bit high but the space is really nice, too bad there isn't more stuff happening in the area. At least the Hilton's Tsunami has a great rooftop to smoke a cig and chill out a bit and gaze over the Port Allen bridge and the haunting Mississippi river. Go BR!!
