I visited Huey's for the first time yesterday evening for Forum 35's monthly social (I am the social chair) Â John Delgado greeted me and set me up at a lovely table near the entrance for sign in and put some dollahs in the juke box for our listening pleasure. Â I hurried to it to put some of my favorite jams on to set the mood....or to change my mood. Â An attitude adjustment is just what I had when I heard the likes of Nirvana, Michael Jackson, The Misfits, and Alice Cooper. Â Huey's has some great happy hour specials including $2 domestics, $3 imports, $5 martinis and cocktails. Â Wine isn't included on the happy hour but it is nicely priced at $7-11 a glass. Â I enjoyed a Fancy Lawnmower and a crisp Sauvingon Blanc. Â Over 50 were present representing the young professionals of Baton Rouge as the October Forum 35 Social was underway. Â
Oh, also included in the venue was a dart board, pool table and other adult games. Â We all had a great time and we are sure to frequent this lil gem soon!
I went to Huey's on a Friday night a few weeks before LSU started up for the semester. So, I'm not sure if I experienced the usual crowd or if it's different during the school year. My friends and I arrived around 10pm and Huey's was hoppin'! The crowd seemed to be mostly young-ish professionals. I didn't feel too old or too young, which happens to me a lot in Baton Rouge! There was a guitarist performing cover songs on the stage, and a handful of people were dancing. Several people were playing pool, and there was plenty of room to stand. Seating was limited, but we did manage to grab a booth near the stage. I really liked that the music wasn't too loud, and my friends and I could carry on a conversation without having to yell too much. My friends ordered drinks at the bar, and I ended up ordering a drink from a waitress who came by our table after we sat down. I inquired about a shot that I saw the people sitting next to us take, and the waitress said it was a "Red Panda"- half fireball and half rumchata. I love rumchata so I gave it a try, and it was delicious! My friends loved their Pimm's cups and Moscow Mules also (however the bar was out of cucumbers for the Pimm's cup).
I will definitely return to Huey's, especially since it's right around the corner from Blend, which I love!
I think they want to be known as a Happy Hour kind of place b/c HH lasted until 9 or 10 when i was here. Â ($2 domestics)
The place looked a lot nicer when it was M Bar. Â Classier. Â Now I get the feeling it's the place that old frat brothers are going to hang out together in, now that they've moved off campus and on to sleazy lawyer or salesmen careers. Â
I did like the dart board though. Â It has cameras so you can watch you shoot and see a closeup of your shot in the board. Â Gimmicky, put I've never seen it before and thought it was pretty cool. Â One pool table. Â
I might come back if i'm already downtown with a group of people and someone wants to go, but I won't make a trip downtown just for Huey's.
