Some friends wanted to meet the other evening and this place was totally convenient. Â It is right by the light rail and was easy for all of us to get to. Â I understand it recently changed names/owners, but I had never been in here prior. Â I didn't eat (will review next time I stop by), but several in our party enjoyed their food. Â This place was exactly as I expected. The beer was cold; the service was fast; TV's were big and prices were reasonable. Â We watched the Rockies' game and enjoyed our evening.

Gridiron Grill is the latest establishment in the former Royal Gorge Pizza location. Before that it was Blue Agave and before that Harlow's. Unfortunately, Gridiron Grill is looking like it will be just as short-lived as its predecessors. Let me start by saying I hate leaving negative reviews of mom and pop shops, especially when the staff was as nice to us as they were at Gridiron. But I have to give honest feedback if I want to help the restaurant get better and inform other diners at the same time. The problem? The food is just average and there is no real restaurant concept. If you have been to a sports bar before, you have already been to Gridiron Grill. Â You can guess the menu before you walk in the door: burgers, chicken fingers, nachos, pizza, etc. Yawn. There are no specialties or unique items on the menu. For dinner, we ordered the beef fajitas. While the meat was heavily seasoned, which I liked, it seemed like a poor cut of beef. Certainly not a good, juicy sliced steak. It came with gigantic flour tortillas- WAY too big. These are fajitas, not mammoth burritos. Â It also came with peppers and onions, but very little onion. In my opinion, onions should outweigh peppers in fajitas. My girlfriend thought the bloody mary was good. We barely touched the brownie and ice cream dessert. You know those cheap packaged brownies that you get at the gas station? Picture one of those with cheap vanilla ice cream on top. Certainly not the warm, homemade brownie we were hoping for. The ice cream had icicles all over it- like it was freezer burned.
In closing, the prices are reasonable at the Gridiron Grill. Being right next to a light rail station is a plus. The place has been remodeled, so it looks better than it did before. The staff was nice and attentive. I hope they whip that menu into shape (and whip the cook, too) and get some good drink specials going! It could be a fun place to sit on the patio this summer, if they can fix the food issues!....
