A great All-American bar and restaurant that has a varied food AND beer menu! The hostess and waiters were very friendly and composed even when it was hectic Friday night.  Recommend the following: SPINACH SALAD + BLACK N BLEU BURGER

P.S. Grover sometimes have some great bands that come through but you need to check the schedule :)

The food was great and the staff was very friendly. The only negatives were that service was somewhat slow, they had a small beer selection, and the prices were slightly on the higher side for some items.

Today we went back here w friends.  The pulled pork corn dogs have gotten bigger since our first visit and they were yummy, as always. :) I had a turkey burger, hubs had chicken strips... we're sorta boring.  The turkey burger had a weird spice to it, but it wasn't bad-weird, just different-weird.  Nice service though, can't wait till its warm enough to actually frequent this place!

Food was great and the beer was cold.

The chips and queso was amazing and my stuffed shrimp with spanish rice was awesome. The staff was friendly and was very attentive.
This place use to be the old Coach Joes and the new owners have sunk a lot of money into making this place nice.

They're new and they are giving it 100% of themselves to make it work. I love seeing local owners put their heart and soul into their establishments and it shows.

The restaurant was super clean and everything around the bar / kitchen area looked highly organized.

The bands are good and getting better! Hopefully this place will be around a while.

UPDATE:  LESS THAN 2 HOURS SINCE EATING HERE AND HUSBAND IS THROWING UP FROM FOOD POISONING - WARNING !!!

This is killing me, like another reviewer said; we too want this place to succeed where a lot of others in this location have failed.  But some things you cannot overlook.  What a disastrous turn our lunch took today.  For the sake of time I will say this is the worse restaurant experience anyone in our party of 10 has ever experienced.  For those who want details - here goes - I will list in order all that took place.

    1.  We arrived at 12:15 with a party of 10.  The restaurant was empty and we were promptly seated at a large table.  The menus were placed on the table and the waitress filled the drink orders for everyone as soon as each group arrived - yeah waitress!
    2. We were busy chatting and took our time getting our order in but the waitress didn't forget us.  She kept our drinks full and politely checked on us until we were ready to order - yeah waitress!
    3. We have 4 separate checks and she kept the orders straight - yeah waitress!
    4. Most of the food came to the table but 3 meals were never seen.  We received an hour of excuses for the lack of food but at the end of the day we were here for 2  1/2 hours and 3 people didn't get their food.
    5. The waitress offered an appetizer on the house for our 3 hungry friends - yeah waitress!
    6. Restaurant charged for appetizer, drinks (received) and meals that never showed up.  Asked to speak to this manager and we couldn't find him and he wasn't on the floor.  During this entire 2 hour lunch he never came by the table and we actually thought someone else was the manager.
    7. Finally met the manager only because we were not leaving until we spoke to him.  He blamed the waitress for everything.  When told he shouldn't blame her, especially in front of us, he laughed.  Yes laughed!!!  I wouldn't have believed it if I wasn't sitting there watching this entire thing.  He laughed.
    8. He spoke to the waitress and when she came back to our table she was crying.  That's it, final straw, we requested and got the owner's number and when we told the manager we were going to call him he said "go ahead" and laughed.  So now he was laughing at us and making high school girls cry.
    9. We called the owner and as he requested we waited for him to come into the restaurant.  We were offered all sorts of apologies, he said he has hired a consultant to make things better, that he was going to make changes and that things were going to get better.  We were given gift cards and checks were reversed.

My wife and I stopped in the new Grovers to experience what was being toted as "the new neighborhood place"

We were immediatly greeting by a host of folks and promptly seated and immediatly attended to buy 2 waiters? WOW...Anyway, he asked if we had been in before, NO...Then he ran down the speel about the "fresh, hand made food" and the Chef was "well Known, etc" then made several suggestions before I had a chance to view the menu of which the St, Louis ribs were his favorite, and rightly so as they were taken from the employee availability list..."so that should tell you somthing".

I proceeded to look over the wine list, which had some interesting offerings but when I aked about several, that WERE on the menu, I was directed to the "house offering" as "they just got the liquior license" and these were not yet available. I find that odd, but ordered a "house wine"  for my wife and a beer and shot for me.

My wife proceeded to order the offered homemade "Tortilla soup", and Cobb salad and I was ordered the St. Louis Ribs, Green beans and black beans.

First the, soup arrives and smells, good and actually tasted ok, but the consistancy was one more of chili than soup. I have had ALOT of Tortilla Soup from expensive places to not so expensive places, but never one ringing with consistancy this one had. After several bites, my wife and I elected to "save room" for the main course.

Her Cobb Salad arrives and represents nothing like the Cobb salad I have seen...or had in the past. This one was CHOPPED!!!. The contents appeared to have all the offerings of Cobb sald, eggs, avacado, tomato, chicken...but it was chopped. Now I get that the new fangled wave in Culanary arts is to present salads in diffrent new ways and expressions...but a chopped Cobb sald is..just wrong. Of your gonna do like that...state it on the menu then, or call it somthing else! Now my wife had to presentations that were "off the mark". Food is 1/2 presentation and 1/2 taste...So my Chef told my while training years ago. The taste was really nothing special and my wife offered her displeasure to the wait staff. They did offer to replace it with somthing else, but she declined.

My Ribs arrive and I immedatly brace for "the best ribs of my life" as presented by the clearly jealous waiter. Perhaps I was taken his last order of the forbidden delacacy, recently placed on the "forbidden list"...I dont know. They are smothered in the Dr. Pepper Sauce they advertised and the meat falls off the bone. However, It was immediatly apparent these ribs, were par boiled and not slowly prepared as given away by the water soaked bones. The taste was not as "mind blowing" as led to believe. In fact Randy Whites sits in the same parking lot and offers the slow cooked ribs or the "real deal" the same way I make them. Not par boiled like Chili's cooks them. After another shot I determined these ribs were not very good and so I went for the sides.

The green beans, by far were the best item I ate. They were fresh and good, just like beans should be. BTW they are better that Randy Whites...the green beans that is. The black beans...taseted like...well black beans..no spice, no additional flavor...just black beans.

So, after that meal...I gave the 2 for 1 dinner coupon I recieved and received the check. HOLY SMOKES... WITH the 2 for 1 dinner, 1 soup, 1 beer, 2 shots and 1 wine the bill was over $56!!!

So, here is my problem...I do not mind paying for food that is good. I do however mind paying for food that is overpriced for the market and especially paying too much for drinks. The issue with Shuckers that was in that location b efore it was Grovers, was the price of the drinks. You cannot run a place expecting to "jam" the patrons for drinks and expensive food in an effort to turn an immediate profit. Your regulars, will "keep the lights on" if you offer resonable drinks and food prices.

Good luck guys...Shuckers had the same problem and only lasted a few short months. With the location, out and away, I would find my self in a place that offered a better atmosphere that would command the prices presented here at Grovers.

Grover's is pretty hit or miss. The staff is wonderful and very nice. I ordered the catfish once and it was fabulous. I ordered it again on another occasion and it was horrendous. I was so disappointed. I had ordered it to go and didn't open the box until I got home. I was too tired to take it back. The fish was nothing but burned cornmeal and no fish. They give you great portion sizes but that means nothing if it sucks. They have great sweet potato fries and i always order two...one for now and one for later. Their green beans are delish too. I got the bread pudding and it was moldy. So that was a no go. Once again I had ordered it to go so didn't realize it until I had gotten home. I will give them another try but hopefully they will be more consistent on the good side.

Visited Grover's last night to see a great band perform and their music was terrific! Not too loud, so I'm sure they've addressed that problem. We tried the Sampler appetizer, loaded white queso and cup of their "Texas Chili." The Sampler "Trio" was really good except for the calamari, which I found to be very long on batter and short on calamari. The fried pickles and loaded potato skins were AWESOME! The loaded queso was terrific I just wish we wouldn't have had to ask for the guacamole and pico de gallo which the menu clearly says is included with the dish. They also charged us $10 for the bowl when we ordered the "cup" which should have been $5. The chili was pretty good, but lacked something.

The only reason I didn't give Grover's 5 stars is because of the service. Waitress was ditzy and borderline rude. It seemed like this was her first time waiting a table. Would love to give this place another shot and I really hope we get 5 star service on the next visit. Thanks Grover's for a good night of food and music!

    My advice to the ownership/management:
    1) DIVERSIFY your waitstaff. Not every server has to be a young ditzy blonde...
    2) Turn some of the TVs to different channels. Maybe FOX news channel? Not all the Packers game...
    3) Introduce bands... as the manager of a place you should be introducing the bands to your customers and show them that you're involved.

    Overall a great experience!

We were here on a Saturday for lunch without other tables to compete with. Great atmosphere. Super friendly staff. Overall, the food is tasty with a decent variety. I don't eat much fried food, so i love it when a place has healthier options. Worth a try from our perspective. Fortunately our experience was better than other reviews.

I'm gonna have to rerate this place after our last visit. As another reviewer wrote (after visiting the same day) the salsa that came with the White queso was...kind of nasty. Tasted like soap. Then, we ordered. I got a burger and The Giant got chicken tenders. The burger was overcooked (even burned on one side), and the tenders came with a side of gravy that was just roux and milk. The waitress was the same as we'd had before and was nice, but brought me a dirty knife to cut the burger and "forgot" the salsa. (We should have let that one go. Yuck)

I'm really, really sorry to post this. It's the kind of place you really want to succeed. We do! But with dirty knives, soapy salsa, burnt burgers and the prices they charge, I'm hoping they'll read and take heed.

Please take another run at this, Grovers. You can do it. Just not with this stuff going on.

Owner is super nice.  Staff are super nice, love the patio and the free games... darts, shuffle board, pool, horse shoes... Drinks, good and cold.  I really want this place to make it.

My only suggestion for improvement would be the recipes. We've been twice and it seems everything has a sweet taste to it.  It's not bad, but it's not great. I get it, it's southern cooking, but I don't care for sweet gravy or sweet breading.  But again, not bad, just didn't knock my socks off.  I would prefer less sweet and more spice.

I'd really like to give this place more stars and if they get the food right, I'll give it 5 because I really like the atmosphere.  They have a no kids after 9 policy which in my opinion rocks!
I'm pulling for you Grovers!!!!  We want you to make it in Frisco! We need a good grown ups bar!

This was my second time at Grover's, and I'm done. Here's a recap from my trip last night:

We went to see a couple of bands that were playing - a Metallica tribute band (Kill 'em All) and an AC/DC tribute band (Back in Black). Both bands were fun and I have no complaints about either. Grover's, on the other hand, was not so good. Again.

Having been to Grover's in the past, I was feeling a little nervous about actually eating anything there. In fact, we had planned to eat elsewhere and then just show up for the music and a few drinks. Unfortunately, timing was against us and we were hungry when we got there. I eyed the menu with some trepidation... hmmmm... pretty ordinary bar fare, but what's this? Pulled pork potato skins? That might be ok, how can you screw that up? I hit the waitress with the order and get "oh, sorry, we are out of pulled pork" in response.

Well damn. On to the backup plan, chips and queso. And it's in stock! Yay! Score one for me! Now, what to wash it down with?

Me: "What have you got on draft"?
Waitress: "Bud Light, Miller Light, Dos Equis, and Shiner".

Oh my, that's a grim beer selection. "Yeah, ok... I guess I'll go with the Shiner".

    "Sorry, we're out."

Shit. "What have you got in bottles"

"Coors Light and Miller, we are sold out of everything else".

Damn, gotta go with the lesser of two evils. "Coors Light then".

""Ok, but there are only a few left".

What the hell? How can you possibly be out of Coors Light? It's like saying "we're all out of water" or "sorry, all of tonight's oxygen has been used up, we're out".

Sure enough, I have two sweet sweet Coors Lights and upon ordering the third one I get "we don't have any more". I move on to the godforsaken Miller Light or whatever on draft, as I am enjoying the band and want to hang out a bit longer.

Oh yeah - remember the chips and queso? Somewhere along the line, it showed up and the first thing we noticed was that the chips had lingered way too long in some sort of warming device because they were clearly burnt and tasted so. Bonus - the queso was cafeteria bland. Awesome. HOW THE HELL CAN YOU RUIN CHIPS AND FREAKING CHEESE?

Meanwhile, my wife had ordered a Jack and diet that turned out to be about 97% Diet and 3% Jack, and she was questioning if it actually was Jack and not just whatever well crap they had handy. I tasted it and was not so sure myself - and I have more than my fair share of Jack experience. Suffice to say, if you like a good pour (and who doesn't?), then spend your liquor dollars elsewhere. Grover's bartenders can't pour a decent simple mixed drink to save their lives. The wife's Jack and diet was one of the weakest mixed drinks that I have ever had the misfortune of sipping.

The atmosphere of the place is not bad at all - they have a nice "Texas" thing happening inside and a great patio area in the back. The location has plenty of potential, but unfortunately there are just too many problem areas that detract from the overall experience. If these guys could get their act together: better food, a well stocked bar, not-so-skimpy drinks, and a good craft beer selection, this could be the go-to place in Frisco. Unfortunately, after my recent visit I feel that they will be joining Coach Joe's and Buckwild's in the Hereafter sooner rather than later. Pity.

So, the TL;DR version for you ADD folks:

    Crappy food
Ridiculously limited beer selection (and that's assuming that they actually HAD what was listed, which they didn't).
Weakest mixed drinks I have ever had
Don't bother, go just about anywhere else

I'll give 'em two stars because I felt bad for the poor waitress that was helping us, it was apparent that she was really trying but she was fighting a losing battle on all fronts. Even then, service was below average at best.

I won't be back - two Grover's screwings are plenty for me, thanks.

I've been in the door twice, sat down once.

The first visit was "grand opening" weekend and there was already a band going when we attempted to walk in with some friends after being out for dinner and drinks. The band was right up front and was so loud that we couldn't make out what the hostess was saying. I think she said something about a cover, too. We all exchanged looks and quickly departed.

But we were determined to give it another try and after hearing that they've addressed the noise issue, we went back, this time intending to grab dinner before the band came on.  Took a look around, including outside patio (super awesome bar out there, but it was too smokey for dining - the bar was high quality, covered and had a flat screen as well. There was also 2 horseshoe courts set up outside below the deck). Sat in high pub table booth near the front bar inside.

Waitress - super friendly and helpful. She was highly enthusiastic about these "pulled pork corn dogs" they offer so we ordered those along with a bowl of loaded white queso. The pulled pork corn dogs were....interesting. I would not rave about them but they were not awful...they just...were. The queso, however, was a God-sent! It was almost a white version of Bob Armstrong Dip and for $10 they brought a GIANT bowl of the stuff with delicious homemade chips (I think they were homemade; if not, I want to go grocery shopping with these guys).  The dip was the winner and I'd bet that we all thought about licking the bowl.

That was probably enough food but we ordered dinner anyways. I thought I'd go smaller and just order another app that I wanted to try, but their food comes out in such mass quantities that it was more than I could handle. I was not impressed with the largely breaded stuffed jalapenos. The jalapeno part was very small compared to what was breaded around it. It was said to be shredded chicken but it seemed more minced to me. Kind of messy to eat as well. The others got: burger, spicy chicken sandwich, and veggie burger (no bun). All portions were equally oversized (Texas style I suppose).

Drinks were standard, although they still do not have everything for the bar and could not make most of their "signature" drinks. I got over my disappointment with a few glasses of white wine....and then really made sure I felt OK about it by downing a couple of beers out on the back patio.

They have games (darts, pool, shuffle board, and those bar video games - golden tee and the hunting one).

Atmosphere: rustic Texas. Definitely bar but with some classier food (and some overly fried options as well).  Good for sharing. The band volume was much better and we were able to continue on the night and enjoy ourselves. I'd say we'll be back. It's nice to have options in Frisco - keep 'em coming!

Time for an update...  back to Grovers we went... We were actually able to walk in the door and talk to the hostess and hear what she was saying...we're off to a great start!   Before deciding where we would sit, we checked out the patio which was super nice but a tad too smokey for eating dinner so we chose a booth in front of the bar.  IMO a good seat choice; close to the bar and far enough away from the stage.  Our waitress was super helpful and friendly...things are looking up for this place!

It feels very Texas/rustic and it feels more like a bar than a restaurant but that's fine with me!   Several booths, floor tables, bar stools and seating outside.   The bar also had a couple of TV's showing sports.

We looked over the menu and decided to try the queso and pulled pork corn dogs to start..  the corn dogs were good but it was the queso that stole our hearts.  Thank goodness the bowl was large enough to feed an army because it was D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S.

My husband has been to the other location and it apparently offered pizza, this one does not.  Once he got over the fact that he could not order pizza (which he continued to share was one of the best he has had), he landed on a burger which he was wild about.   It looked undercooked to me, but he enjoyed every bite.   I order a veggie burger, which was eh, not that great. Very dry and pasty.  I really wanted a baked potato which they did not offer..yet they have twice baked potatoes on the menu.  Curious about that one...    The other couple chose the buffalo sandwich and the stuffed jalapenos.  The sandwich was the winner of those two.. spicy and crunchy.  The jalapenos were heavily breaded and not spicy..  The menu has a variety for everyone.

Once the band start playing it was definitely loud but not overwhelming like our first visit.  We played some shuffle board while we enjoyed some beers and listened to the band.  The only bad with the Shuffleboard is that you have to pay $2 to keep score electronically....um, no thanks, I can add in my head.  They also have Darts and a Pool table.

A much better second visit for this place..  Although, I think we'll stick with queso and beer on our next visit :)    Yay for non-chains coming to Frisco!

My husband and I went to try this place with some family of ours this past weekend. We are kind of mixed on it so far, so here is my list of Pro's& Con's!

    Pro's:

-$5 cover gets to three free drink- that's a good deal anyway you look at it

-Outside patio is awesome awesome awesome with stonework and an additional bar with t.v's and more seating

-Pool tables and a shuffle board

-Most of the girls working are very polite

    Con's:

-(And this is where my 3 star rating comes from) The music was SO LOUD IT HURT. Seriously, my husband and I were standing right in front of eachother screaming and still couldn't hear what the other was saying. In fact, the only reason we stayed was because they had a patio with doors that blocked some of the music. But, even with that, we could still hear the band through the doors, over the talking of the crowd outside, over the t.v's, and over the patios own music playing on the speakers.

    - The bar area seems to have no rhyme or rythym to it. With a packed bar on opening weekend you would think they would have more of a plan. But, we considered it luck when we caught a waitress walking to and from the bar to flag her down for a drink.

Hopefully, management will see these and take note because we really want this place to work out. The layout is really nice, and from what I hear the food is pretty good too! We will just have to wait and see!
