This is my favorite beer shack. Of course it's not fancy, it's not meant to be! It's a locals hang out with cold beer, friendly people and a pub like aura. Everyone is friendly and introductions routinely go around the bar. Food is good, quick and inexpensive.
Sure you were at Grumpy's?? The burgers are either raw or hockey pucks, Â I have not meet to many people that care for it much. The two older people, I think are the owners, are not very friendly and were very rude when the food was sent back two times. Glad for the umbrellas but they need them inside when it rains. I'll never go back or recommend them what happen to the other place ? That place was fun.
Review Source:Stopped by for lunch on a hot afternoon. Â Grumpy's has replaced Billy Jack's Burger Shack at this location, and having eating at both (as well as Boyle's Backyard across the intersection) I far prefer Grumpy's for their burgers. Â Grumpy's is one of the many open-air beach shack bars & grills that are all over FL. Â This one has lots of covered seating on both sides of the bar and a good number of tables with umbrellas on the side of the building in the open-air section. Â I try to check these kinds of places out whenever I see one,
I arrived not too long after opening, and was immediately greeted by my waitress and the cook. Â Both couldn't have been friendlier and we chatted most of the time I was there. Â The owner, "Grumpy", certainly isn't, and once he arrived he joined in the conversation, too. Â Super friendly folks....something you don't always get at places like this.
Service was extremely quick to take my order, and it didn't take long for my food to arrived, along with my beer. Â I had an excellent char-grilled burger with thick slices of tomato & onion, cold/fresh lettuce on a toasted onion bun, along with thick-cut fries that were perfectly cooked, light seasoned salt, and not one bit greasy, all for $6.95. Â My only small criticism is the burger was just bit dry, but that didn't affect the flavor at all. Â And I wish all burger places had fries this good. Â Beer was ice cold, and there were about a dozen selections on tap. Â
It all made for a great meal and refreshment on a hot summer day. Â I don't get over to this side of Palm Harbor often, but I'll definitely be back. Â Hours are 11am-11pm Sun-Thurs, and 11am-till closed on Fri-Sat. Â
I'd give Grumpy's a 4.5 on my beach shack scale, but for now it's a 4, and I'll raise the food & overall rating to 5 if future burgers are just a bit more moist.
