Best dive bar in Des Moines, hands down. Shots of ANYTHING not well are $4. The staff is rad, the music is awesome, the decor is totally rockabilly gearhead. Always a strong drink, good company and free pool like half of the week. The pool table isn't level and the bar cues suck, but if you want a pool bar go to Big Dogs. You can find me here most days, as it is my favorite. Excellent bottle selection and they'll sell you to-go beers as well. No external signage aside from an Old Style neon in the window keeps douches out, and they are also dog-friendly enough to have a water bowl behind the bar for your thirsty puppy. GT wins.
Review Source:I always have problems figuring out where to booze it up on Monday nights. Â Lots of places near my apartment are closed. Â Lame.
Enter GT. Â
......why have I not come here sooner?!
Instead of squinting and trying to read the beers in the cooler behind the bar, use their flashlight to select your beer. Â I got my share of Matilda, which was stellar.
This was truly the perfect low key night.
This is a tiny bar... like, the size of your standard midwestern living room. Â But it's pretty cool while maintaining minimal attitude - there's bike memorabilia everywhere, friendly bartenders, and a GREAT selection of bottled beers - what other hole in the wall dive bar has Chimay and Duvel?? Â Really! Â
Occasionally it gets overrun with Drake students, but usually you can pull up a barstool or grab one of the booths near a window without too much trouble. Â There's a pool table if you're so inclined, and a couple of TVs near the bar.
I was affraid I wasnt gonna find a cool drinking hole to hang at until I came across GT.. this place isnt a biker bar, its a place where people who really build and enjoy motorcycles go.. not your leather bound dousche weekend warriors..
Natasha the bar tender is amazing and she made sure I was right at home..
thank you GT for staying cool.. see you next year!
and sorry my triumph dumped oil all over your new cement sidewalk.. thats what she does..
This is a local neighborhood bar and they know how to serve a drink. If you like your drinks stiff this is where you need to go.
It is a small bar not much room the place fills up fast. I would recommend going here on off nights if you do not like crowds. Even when they are busy they still turn the drinks out quickly. There is biker memorabilia all over the walls. It is common to have motorcycles and bicycles parked out front of the place all night long. Do not let that scare you though, everyone gets along, and everyone is welcome as long as you can hold your liquor.
They have a pool table, and a couple of arcade games. They have a good juke box with a good range of music. They also have a couple of TVs if the cubs are playing that is what will be on them.
Big thumbs for me up becuze know they do how to pour a dirnked....opps it looks like i have already had one to many at GTs!
Best things to get their original shots Tity-balls or a Fu$k-ya
Also tell the bartender you want to play shut-the-box it is a game only found at GTs!
