Let me be frank! They need to take the word hamburger out of the name unless they think bland over cooked burgers are in trend! The place was a little untidy but not the issue here, the food is just not up to par although my daughter liked her chicken tenders and the bar looked to have regulars enjoying themselves.. I guess I needed to have a few drinks at the bar before eating that burger to make it even at best OK. The place needs a new manager who understands food and service. I have a feeling the owner who was involved on the floor which is good thing unfortunately just does not really know about decent to good food which is most non experienced owners problems!

    Service: Ok
    Food: very poor
    Atmosphere: confusing

Bottom line: save your money and hit up a fast food place before going here, BTW I do not like fast food..

We have been regulars at Hamburger Joes since it first opened. Ravi, the owner, is one of the hardest working and most driven people I know. He always greets us by name and he and his staff always remember our favorite drinks and food choices.   The atmosphere is casual sports bar with many TV's.  it is a great place to bring a crowd if you are having a party like a team end of the season party. Ravi will decorate and make it special for you.   Our favorite foods are the turkey burger ( Mother Clucker), the Buffalo Shrimp wrap,  and the Cheeseburger Wrap. His homemade hot chips are some of the best in town but if you are trying to diet, he also has steamed broccoli.   What we like best about Ravi and his restaurant is that he wants to please and he cares about his customers. When some of my friends told him that he needed to improve his wine list, he asked them for wines that they would like to have and got them in.  That is why Ravi has a group of regulars that are around the bar every night. Once you take the time to get to know Ravi, you will see why he has such a following.  If you are looking for a late night hang out, that is when they have bands and other theme nights.  Give it a try and make sure you ask for Ravi.

Picked up lunch here today and the result was much more miss than hit. Tried the Smoked BBQ Plate with FF, Texas Toast,  and Cole Slaw, runs something over $8. The BBQ is definitely not cooked in house - has some hint of smoke, but is very wet and with an underlying sweetness, and no heat, at all. The consistency is more a mince than a chop or pull. There was no Cole Slaw with my order, but there was steamed Broccoli - yeap, Broccoli - an item I would not serve, even with good BBQ. Definitely would not order again.

The Chicken Strips app (something over $6) which consisted of 4 nice size strips of well-bred, well-cooked breast meat - just a little under seasoned, but nice. Came with FF which were nicely cooked, as well. This I would re-order.

The last item we tried was a Hot Dog (pricey at $2.49) with mustard, chili, and onions. The mustard was added last, and in huge amounts - guaranteeing that even after removing as much as possible, you were going to get mustard everywhere. Couldn't really tell about the overall taste of the dog, the mustard was all there was - at least if you order it in house, you add your own mustard - which I now understand is a good thing.

The Burgers here are good, as are the FF - and I'd pretty much stick to them as to taste and value.

Went here for lunch.  This is probably more of an evening kind of place.

Had a hamburger/fries for lunch.  It hit the spot - probably close to 1/2 pound.  Not bad.  Hamburger, fries and sweet tea - $10.

It's a sports bar, probably a dozen televisions hanging from the ceiling.  They have booth's and tables in an open like setting.  I noticed a smaller sized bar.

Best burgers in town! Service is hit and miss but I could eat the Carolina Burger every day of my life.

Hamburger Joe's just blew my mind with one of the worst service experiences I've ever had.

Let's start at the beginning, I didn't go to Hamburger Joe's with high expectations, just to watch the game, grab dinner, and have a few beers.  I got to seat myself, which is cool, and there were so many TVs, no problems choosing a table (one of the few left, and the bar was full).  I didn't really see any 2 tops, so instead of choosing a 6, I saw a 4 top booth and went for that.

Beer prices look reasonable, but they're for 16oz pours, instead of 20.  Which is still reasonable, but not a bargain necessarily.  Minor gripe, and the food is very cheap on paper, which is certainly alluring.  All of these thing are good, and certainly promising for the game.

The waitress eventually got me a menu, and I ordered a Sam, which for a busy football night showed up in a reasonable amount of time.  The burger, was not nearly as timely, showing up almost 40 minutes later, and completely overcooked.  Which is bad, but I can live with that when they have the Thursday Night Football game.

Of course... This is when things completely drove straight off the cliff into a ditch... while I was still eat.

What I presume was the manager, came over, and asked, "Would it be ok if I put three other people at your table?"

Flabbergasted, with part of a burger still in hand, I couldn't believe it.  "What?"  As he calmly repeated the question in a slightly different way, I couldn't believe I was even having this discussion while I was eating!

    "Uh, no"

At this point, the manager, looks confused, as thought I've asked him where the chairlift is.

    "No?"

    "No."

"But I can't have them stand"

    "What?"

    "Well you see we're full"

At this point I've had enough of this, "Well let me finish my food, and I'll leave"

"Oh no, you don't have to leave"

"No, I'll leave"  At this point he tries to make something of an apology and telling me I don't have to go, before scurrying off, leaving me fuming.  I understand the restaurant needing to make money, but that may be the most flagrantly inappropriate exchange I've ever had.  While a guest is still eating, asking them to add people to their table.  Unbelievable.

The fact is, I could have dealt with the beer selection and price, the poor food quality, and the slow service for the game.  What I can't condone is the clear urge to have their business interest before their customers perception.  Tonight, they lost someone that would have been in their every Thursday.

This location is working on its third iteration of the burger and sports bar theme.  While it certainly has potential and some strengths I've never been overly impressed and only stop in once in a while.  My most recent visit was for lunch 5/31/12.

    Pros:
-Neat and clean (not the stereotypical dark and seedy sports bar)
-18 or so HDTV's (see below)
    -Daily beer and liquor specials
-$4.99 half sandwich and salad lunch special

    Cons:
    -Hit and miss service
-Out of the way location for most of Greensboro
-HDTV's are smallish by today's standards and mounted a little high up

    LOCATION:
Located on N Elm Street just north of Pisgah Church in a newer strip center.  Parking is fine but, since it is on the very north side of town, its only convenient for nearby residents.

    FOOD:
At first glance, the menu seems typical for a sports bar but  there are enough nuances to give it a slight nod over many competitors.  The key segments are appetizers, sandwiches, wraps and salads but the focal is burgers...of course.  These are pretty much all 1/2 pound jobs and there are 6-8 "Signature" choices or you can go with a make-your-own.  You can get a range of add ons that include homemade chili, eggs and onion rings.  Overall, I think they are pretty clever and certainly better than most bar burgers.  They range in price from about $7 - $10.

There is a little ingenuity among the appetizers too with the inclusion of fish tacos, quesadillas and fish and chips.  Of course, standards like nachos, basket-of-chips and mozzarella sticks are available too.  The apps are in the $4 to $9 range.

The salads and wraps follow a similar theme -- several standbys and a couple of slightly unique offerings.  Also, for lunch, you can get a half sandwich and a salad for $4.99 from a list of 4 or 5 sandwiches.

While I give them props for spicing up the menu with some creativity, I've never really thought the flavor itself was noticeably better.  Today's half roasted turkey melt and salad was very, very average.  However, for 5 bucks I'm not going raise a ruckus.  If I hadn't have eaten other options (i.e. burgers) there I'd chalk it up to just the fact its a cheap meal so the expectation should be low.  Unfortunately, I've experienced similar let downs in previous visits.  As much as I like the attempt, I can only justify 2 stars for food.

    SERVICE:
This is the real puzzler.  I've had both very good and very disjointed service here.  I will say no one has ever been rude, however.  Today's visit started out great.  The manager sat me right away, took my drink order and was super friendly.  My food was order was taken promptly and delivered from the kitchen quickly.  But that is were it faltered.  Once I was done with my meal and he took my plates, he essentially left me hanging.  While several other tables got their checks and while he took time to speak to what must be regulars he completely forgot me even though I was at the table right by the access to the kitchen.  I hung out for about 15 minutes before I finally flagged him down and asked for the bill.  "Oh, you want your check?" was he response...weird.  It should be obvious that people there for lunch are on a time schedule.  2 stars for the service, as well.

    VALUE:
In general, the menu prices are at a bit of a premium but I could support that due to some of the originality if the flavor was there.  The lunch special is a nice price but I'm not thinking I'll race back just for it.  There are daily drink specials which primarily are $1 off one of the beer choices or discount on a liquor drink.  If the taste was there I could easily go with a 3 star review but for now its a 2.

    ATMOSPHERE:
Obviously, thought was put into this place to make it somewhere families as well as sports fans could come and feel comfortable.  It has always been neat and clean on my visits.  It also doesn't seem to have that dreaded crowd of pure locals who come to think they own the joint.  For me, the placement (and size) of the tv's make it a hard to watch a lengthy game without craning your neck but others may not even notice.  4 stars for atmosphere.

Overall: Food: 6/10; Service: 7/10 (as an average); Value: 6/10; Atmosphere: 8/10

I ate here for lunch one day while on a business trip, and had a great time and excellent meal.  The waitress, bartender, and waitress all introduced themselves by name, and checked to make sure my experience was excellent.  I had a cheeseburger with fries and it was outstanding, would recommend to anyone.

Nachos were great but too small of a portion. Burger was perfect. Service was good, too. Atmosphere was ehhh. Kinda rednecky but rednecks are free entertainment.

Service was not good.  Atmosphere was OK.  I would think this would be a better place to drink a few beers, eat a few appetizers and watch the game than a destination for a meal.  My Hamburger was good although not as big as I had hoped based on the previous review.  My wife ordered the cheeseburger and didn't like it.  Hopefully we just caught them at a bad time.
