Would never eat there again unless it was a quick bite for lunch. We had two lunches and a dinner there. The waitresses were friendly and attentive. Our kids had hang tenders but the fries are seasoned wedges which my kids don't eat. Our kids also had burgers but the buns are taro which at the time we had no idea what they were and of course the kids wouldn't eat purple buns. The nachos are big enough for two but the cheese etc is only on the top otherwise just plan corn chips underneath so not enough topping.
We had dinner there the night of the fire twirling show. Made sure we got there well before the show. What a fiasco our meal was!!!!!!! We ordered two hang tenders, shrimp platter and a beef taco. One hour later our food had still not arrived, yet people who arrived and ordered after us had their meals. When I asked the waitress she said that there had been a problem in the kitchen but it was coming. Another half hour later our food had not arrived, the waitress would not approach me and was talking to someone who looked like management.  When I finally got her attention she said our food was coming but they had apparently cooked it wrong three times and had sent it to the other kitchen to cook!  What finally arrived was a fish taco, one hang tender and a chicken taco. Completely wrong and  one child's meal didn't arrive at all. Once I spoke to management he said that they would comp us to the new restaurant upstairs Kula Grill upstairs. By this time the fire show was well over, everyone had left and it was 9.00 p.m. My children were tired and really hungry and I was really angry. We went to the Kula Grill where the meal was comped but still had to pay for our drinks. My understanding was that everything would be free. Did not enjoy the experience as we were all over tired, hungry and angry. We never found out what the problem was. The only positive was that the waitress and management kept their cool, were polite and apologetic. Negative, the above and the prices were expensive.
Coastline aside, the food was forgettable and the drinks were syrupy sweet. For the price, I was expecting a little more kick in my cocktails.
Of course the view is awesome, and they do these pretty sweet fire dancing shows and live performances at sunset, but every other restaurant at Turtle Bay is tastier.
The food and drinks here are actually good. I tried the coconut shrimp and the burger. The fat potato fries are great and the coconut shrimp are amazing with the sweet cocktail sauce they serve it with. Yum! The skinny chichi and lava flow drinks were great too!
My issue is the service. I was here for 4 days and the service was completely hit or miss depending on which waitress you got. The 1st day we tried to order food, we sat at a table as opposed to staying at our pool chairs: big mistake! The waitress came by, said food was taking longer than normal b/c they only had 1 chef instead of 2, took our drink order, and then never returned. And I mean NEVER returned. Â After 15 minutes of waiting for our drinks and not getting a food order in, I walked over to the bartender myself and asked him if our drinks had been made. He said they had and were sitting right there for about 10 mins. I told him our waitress never delivered them, and just basically took our drinks to our table myself. IIIII became our waitress!! We then got up from our table and had the bartender transfer our tab to him so we could guarantee we would get served. We really didn't want to give up our sunny table and sit under the shady bar, but there were no managers walking around to talk to about our lack of service.
The servers who had sections at the pool chairs were good and attentive, and so was the bartender (I forget his name) with long, blonde hair.
We experienced a long wait again on Sunday. We sat there for a good 10 minutes before anyone approached us to grab our order, and then a long 20 minute wait for 2 simple food orders. I really don't understand the difference in service of sitting at a pool chair versus sitting at a table, but there was a tremendous difference!
Perhaps the issue is understaffing, or maybe it's just incompetent people. I understand being on the laid back "Hawaii time," but when you are thirsty, hungry, and paying for waaaaaayyyyy overpriced bar food at a place who uses the word "resort" in the title, great service should be expected at all times. This place needs better management.
I know pool bars can be hit or miss and we definitely got to see that. Â The servers would congregate around the bar and hardly venture out into the pool area to see how people were doing. Â I know it was slow this past week at the hotel, which would make you think they would be on top of their game to earn as much as possible, but they did not. Â I think if my g.f and I had better service we would have ordered more, but we thought it comical how rarely the services came to see how we were doing. Â Not much you can do though if you want to drink by the pool, so we all must just learn to suffer through sitting in paradise with empty glasses.
Review Source:5 star location, 1 star value, 3 star service = 3 stars overall.
There is no better place on this island to watch a sunset. Â None. Â The tables are set so that the view is of the waves, and of the sun, and of almost nothing else. Â Well, nothing but the other people watching the sun set. Â There will be many of them, but the moment you realize that their silhouettes will enhance your sunset photos, the happier you will be, Â
The drinks at the Hang Ten Bar are well made, and not unreasonably priced. Â The waitstaff will check on you every few minutes hoping to push their sales (and your bac) higher, but the mai tais are tasty, and they are happy enough to overcharge you for a virgin lava flow or two if you prefer.
Unfortunately, the food menu is expensive enough, and bland enough, to sink what would otherwise be a five star experience. Â How bad? Â When our 9 year old guest balked at ordering a hot dog and fries, not wanting to spend $14 of my money on food he had at home, and when my 11 year old complains that Popeye's chicken strips are twice as good at half the price, the food value is "off" far enough for me to warn you to eat elsewhere. Â Six of us had a snack bar style dinner and a few cocktails and the bill was over $200.
Even worse, the $18 dollar burger is only $15 at Ola, just on the other side of the resort. Â My best suggestion for a less expensive evening at Turtle Bay? Eat in the lounge at Ola, then wander over to the Hang Ten for a sunset cocktail.
The greatest appeal of this place is the atmosphere, you can watch the sunset, listen to live music, while sipping a 14$ Mai tai. But hey, your in Hawaii right so what the heck? That's the mentality I took. Beer is around  7-9$ and tasty because they carry local brews. We ordered some wings and they were fine but as I said before, you pay for the location! If your nearby its worth it. You can roam around the hotel premises to swim in the cove or try and sneak in the hot tub. Classic tourist destination!
Review Source:A perk of staying at Turtle Bay Resort? Drinks by the pool, of course. Their Mai Tais are claimed to be legendary here, and they are. They also offer happy hour and live music on certain nights, so the ambiance is pretty great for a nice day of relaxing.
The food is only okay and overpriced, so that's kind of a bummer. I had their fish tacos once and it lacked really any seasoning, even with salsa. The service is consistently solid, however, even with the crowded pool and crazy kids running around.
My husband and I just honeymooned at turtle bay and it was great.  Our first day at the resort we had an amazing bartender and had loads of fun  hanging out at this bar with great views of the water and fabulous drinks. Â
The next day we go to the pool and find the complete opposite service at this place. Â The bartender, short and very tan younger guy, was COMPLETELY rude to my husband and refused to sell him more than 1 drink at a time, as well as telling him very rudely to use the waitress at the pool instead of going up to get his own drinks! Â I was so furious at this I complained to the manager. Â We payed so much money to travel all the way from New York for our Honeymoon and did not deserve to be treated so disrespectfully. Â We were lucky enough to not have to see this rude bartender for the rest of our trip as the other very nice amazing older man bartender was there to treat us with the respect we deserved.
Food was just ok nothing amazing about it but the drinks are delicious.
Stopped by after a long day of the beach on our way back to the house we rented. Decent happy hour specials during regular days of the week - we sat outside listening to two guys singing chill live music, sipped our mai tais (strong) and pina coladas for under $10, ate a big order of nachos (lots of meat, toppings, chips, cheese) and liked how the table has a drop down slot for your drinks so that they dont melt water all over the table. Crowd was a mix of families having casual dinners and people like us drinking as the sun went down. Great view of surfers waiting for the waves to come in, and afterwards, obviously a beautiful resort to take a walk around. If you aren't staying at the resort, definitely come out here for a quick drink...beautiful views.
Also note, Turtle Bay has a portion of beach which is public access, so its pretty sweet.
Went here with my husband for an evening drink after we got out of the pool. Service was good, drinks were good but not great. It is a nice little place with food and drink though, convenient to your location of lounging by the pool. Great view of the water and sunset! We are guests of the hotel so we will probably be going back again during our stay.
Review Source:Went there a few times while I stayed at the resort. The first time our service was great, the second time it was ok, the guy was new and you could tell but he was nice enough and meant well.
The food is good, not a huge selection but the few things I had were good. The nachos were amazing. They have a lot of drinks to choose from too (Malibu Pineapple Delight was AWESOME). You get a nice view of the pool area or the beach depending on where you sit and they have tvs for sports. In the evenings there is some kind of entertainment there and it gets a litter busier but not too bad.
Of course, way more expensive than it should be. The chicken fingers/nachos were $16 and the prices go up from there so be prepared to pay a lot. although its a casual bar, its not cheap.
Paid a visit to this bar during a recent visit to Turtle Bay Resort. This is one of the few bars on the island that feature Mehana Mauna Kea Pale Ale and Kauai Golden Ale on tap.
The infamous Turtle Bay Mai Tai (known for being strong) was refreshing, not too sweet like at a lot of other places. However, I think Turtle Bay's Mai Tai is not as strong as the one from the Mai Tai Bar in Ala Moana.
My friend and I sampled the bacon avocado cheeseburger and the guava glazed ribs. The burger was overcooked, more along the lines of med-well; I ordered it med-rare. As for the ribs, the sauce had good flavor and the meat fell off the bone. Also, the wedge fries and the pineapple cole slaw that accompanied the ribs were tasty.
The bar had a few HD TVs, which allowed us to watch the NBA and Stanley Cup Finals, simultaneously.
Service was good.
Overall 3.5 stars.
Free wi-fi.
Go here for the breathtaking view, but remember it is a POOL BAR, so it is casual...VERY casual and full of SHINY NEW WEDDING BANDS!
Usually there is a two piece live band there that reminds me of a wedding band-yeah, they are THAT enthused to be there!
I go there mainly for my craving of this MACADAMIA NUT COLADA, which though loaded which millions of calories, is reaaaaallly yummy!
You can only have ONE drink in front of you at a time, so if your second one comes, because like me, I order them AHEAD of time, you will be forced to brain freeze it down or relinquish it prematurely!
The MENU yields the equivalency of a COUNTY FAIR! Bland, basic, and unappealing! Since the drinks are strong I generally reluctantly force myself to eat (cough!) FRIES! Which is a very rare food for me to consume!
now...in a RARE instance, I saved the WORST FOR LAST! ...
The WAIT STAFF....wow! Every bitter, odd, aging woman they could find! They are hard to get a hold of, they race around like ZOMBIES, one always wears SUNGLASSES! I like to look into the eyes of the person I'm speaking to!
They push drinks on you, and are pushy altogether when they finally DO find your table!
One time I had a spaced out surfer slash bartender, and I stood for 3 minutes trying to explain that I wanted two of the SAME drink, but ONE without alcohol for my teenaged son...it was like I was speaking Greek! Or he was still thinking about that gnarly totally tubular ride dude! To the point where my son told me " Geesh, you spelled it out for him!"
But aside from that the SIDEWAYS WAVES ROLLING ACROSS THE BAY, and the BLOWHOLE make for a fun LAUGH AT THE FREAK SHOW afternoon!
The only reason this gets 3 stars is for the incredible view.....wow! The deep blue waves and lush setting was too good for the Hang 10 beach bar.
The service and food and atmosphere is 2 stars. One waitress, that can only be described as "bitchy" and put out, was the 1st turn off. The menu is very kid friendly...french fries, hotdogs, burgers, etc. & caters to the kiddy pool crowd. This location is gorgeous but no other Turtle Bay restaurant offered this Awesome NS view for lunch....Leonardos  and 21 Degrees were closed for lunch ,major bummer , although we werent told that by anyone who directed us there until we walked all that way saw both totally empty . Ola looked ok, but literally in the sand with sunbathers and diapered babies playing on the beach and not that Im snooty... would be  great if wearing a bikini.....we just wanted a sandless sit down lunch with a great view of the ocean. Lei Leis seemed ok too, but only golf course views and we can see those at home. FYI, the hotel itself did not look as luxurious as the website seems....walked thru thinking we'd bring the company for vaca next yr, but the resort is dated (still 70s inspired) and worn out in spots (common restroom and sitting areas need cleaned or replaced).  Honolulu is more touristy but closer to airport and better hotels on the beach.
Advice, drive to the NS for the day.... bring some lunch and towels and find a beachy spot all along the shore to enjoy your picnic, Â will be way cheaper and less hassle and still breath- takingly gorgeous.
Scott and Vinny (the bartenders there), if you guys ever happen to read this review, i just want to say "thank you for making our honeymoon in the North Shore much more memorable and fun!"
Wow, they make a killer Bloody Mary! Â Best Bloody Mary I've had since Las Vegas. Â Also, their Mai Tai will knock you ass to the floor - watch out now - it's not Hawaiian Punch! Â
The atmosphere is very laid back with an excellent view of the ocean and breaks. Â
You want to 'talk story' with the bartenders - Scottt and Vinny are hilarious. Â Full of stories and helpful advice if you want some tips in the North Shore.
Great place to watch the sunset. Me and the Canadian split a bacon mushroom burger with fries and it was very good and could easily feed two people. Well cooked and had a really good flavor. The fries were extra crispy too. The Lava Flow they made seemed like a light pour but my head check several minutes later made me realize they were pretty generous. One more Lava Flow later and I was singing along with the band (I swear she could use an extra backup singer!)! Lol Cover band plays great music on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays, so grab a table, enjoy the band, take advantage of their Happy Hour Specials (Beer and well drinks $5 between 5-7pm), and enjoy the amazing Hawaiian Sunset!
Review Source:If you want to know a place where you will see no locals, this is it! Â Seriously, the only locals are the employees and even some of them aren't local. Â This is the place where you want to go to feel like a tourist, a vacationer, a "I'm outta town" person. Â Service was very good, and the drinks were made well. Â We got the ahi sashimi for pupus and it was very good. Â But for 11 dollars, I wouldn't expect less. Â The other customers aren't bad either, we had a good conversation with a folk from Illinois.
Minus 1 star for only serving food until 7 PM.
Ok so this is actually a mixed review because there's a few different components to this place.
You have the actual bar (like sitting right at the bar so you're only dealing with a bartender), the bar seating / pool side seating (dealing with the servers), and then the food.
Our first day out there, we sat at the bar and had (sorry i'm bad with names so I'll describe them) an older, skinny guy and the bartender who, to my husband and I, looked like a Hawaiian Kato Kalin. :) These guys were SO nice and talked to us. We like that. The older guy recommended we try this grilled local fish in a thai peanut sauce that they were cooking up in this tent thing and it was DELISH! If we didn't have dinner reservations, we'd have kept ordering more fish.
Although some of the cocktail servers are nice, the overall service sucks. One day we were poolside and it seemed everyone else around us had their drink orders taken except us. They'd walk by and not even look at us, even though I'd be staring them down. We also waived our hands many times.
I got so upset that I tried to order drinks from another one of the bartenders, he wasn't any of the ones I mentioned earlier, and he was like "eh, no." and gave me crap because I'm apparently only allowed to order from the servers when I'm poolside.
We have tried their food - I ordered chicken strips and fries - and was NOT impressed. I get better stuff from the frozen chicken strips at Costco.
Their drinks are expensive, but the bartenders' pours are heavy handed. For example, I normally have to order a Lava Flow with a 151 floater to give it extra oomph when I'm in Maui, but here, ordering it as is will give you a super nice buzz. ;)
So after writing out all of this here's my quick assessment:
* Stay away from their menu - unless you're feeling munchy and don't mind wasting calories on that.
* Sit AT the bar if you can.
* Drinks are expensive, but good pours.
This is Turtle Bay Resort's pool-side bar.
My bf & I visited Turtle Bay during a round-the-island trip of Oahu. We decided to have a Mai Tai at Turtle Bay's pool bar.
The drink itself was SCRUMPTIOUS! For $10 a drink, its expected to be, right?
The service here was good. The cocktail waitresses were accommodating and friendly. I appreciated our waitress going out of her way to get a nice photograph by the water for my bf & I.
Unfortunately, the only downside was the weather. We came right before sunset, and at that time, it was pretty windy with a few showers so it actually became a bit chilly. Nonetheless, it was great to unwind with a Mai Tai and watch the beautiful waves as the sun was going down.
Great spot for a vacationer to come down and enjoy a drink after a long day of sightseeing. Also nice for locals who want a nice view and are willing to spend the extra cash for a yummy tropical drink!
Beautiful location, and the mai tais are some of the highest-octane drinks I've had the pleasure of drinking.
Service is pretty average, but oddly I don't ever hold it against the servers. Â Maybe it's the view. Â :)
Burgers and fries are good, and if you're lucky a couple of the resident cats will come over and make your acquaintance. Â When we were there a couple of weeks ago (we were the only ones at the bar), one cat was lazily sunning itself under the chair...totally docile and content. Â The servers have been there almost as long as the cats...upwards of 15 years.
Awesome sunsets, divine photo ops.
This place is cool. Nothing fancy or remarkable, other than the view of the ocean and green mountains.
The staff are all friendly and know how to make good drinks.
I think the bar could use an update. It just looks old. They have some little televisions that are in wooden boxes above the bar. Kind of tacky.
They have a small menu with all the usual bar food.
I only partake on their Mai Tai's. I believe they were around $10 but they were strong and for some reason, the pineapple tasted much better on the North Shore!
I only had the sashimi as far as food goes. I thought the portion was rather small. Oh well, it was very good.
Overall, it was fun to hang out at Hang Ten. Plenty of good drinks and the bartender Kara was very friendly.
I'll be back, as long as I am not driving! :)
This is the pool bar at the Turtle Bay Resort.
They do serve food, but it is a pretty small selection and we never ate here.
However, we did have their drinks!
You can sit at the bar, around the bar, or just hang out by the pool and a waitress will come out and take your order.
They have lots of fun, blended, unique drinks and they are all incredible. My husband's favorite was the Monkey's Lunch- Bailey's, Kahlua, pina colada mix, and a banana, blended. I tried almost everything. The Turtle is great- Coconut Rum, Midori, and Pineapple juice on the rocks, and you can't go wrong with any of their blended drinks. They all come with a big juicy slice of pineapple and a cherry, too.
They also have a bar mix, but MAN is it spicy! It is good, but be prepared for the fire!
Great place to just chill out and have some drinks. There are lots of beautiful views from almost any location- you can overlook the pool or the ocean and the mountains. Lovely.
Hang Ten Bar was a casual place to escape for a while at night with a drink in hand. We sat next to the water and listened to it splash. There was a spotlight near by that you could play with to look at waves or just ignore.
The drinks= strong and resort priced ($8+). The bar closes at 10pm.
Fyi's~
* They do not have Jameson
* You need a parking pass or to pay to get on Turtle Bay Resort
Hang Ten is one of Turtle Bay's restaurants. Â My husband and I had lunch there because I wanted something more low-key . . . some of their other restaurants seem pretty fancy. Â Anyway, Hang Ten is right next to the pool, and it was just what I expected, but with better food and higher prices. Â
The strawberry smoothie was deliciously tropical. Â The ahi sandwich, side salad, fish tacos, and fries were all good, and the portions were generous . . . but then again sandwiches/wraps at ~$15 a pop had better not be skimpy. Â Our waitress was totally cool, too. Â Overall, a nice, relaxing meal by the pool.
