A very relaxed place to dine, try the Philadelphia type soft pretzels and beer sampler, very good, staff is very friendly and attentive, prices for german food, as with all german restuarants, is on the high side but quality of food is good

We had dinner here tonight, food was good, BUT; we waited at the door, to be greeted, close to 5 minutes. Not very impressive. When I mentioned the time to the server she said, 5 minutes? the last one waited close to 20! Are you kidding me? This was right out of a TV show on a failing restaurant, service is # 1 ! Seated at a table in the bar, nice bartender waited on us. Food was good, not great. They all seemed very rushed & understaffed, AND not TIPPED ! We did however.
For dessert we had the classic Black Forest Cake,  it seems like it came from Safeway, weak chocolate cake, fake icing & canned pie cherries. Come on, if you want to feature a great classic, make it real ! I`ve been in the food service industry for over 30 years & find no reason for this kind of poor running, no wonder they need Groupon to help. Do it right & you`ll succeed. Chef F. Walker

I rarely ever write reviews, but this place it TERRIBLE!
It left a really bad taste in my mouth so I'd like to share:

Wasted a Groupon and an additional $10 at this place!
This is NOT authentic German Food.
I was born and raised in Germany and would be ashamed
to claim Helga's Food tastes like German Food!

The Schnitzel I had looked like it was made 2 days prior and
it was gray in color! Yuck!

Don't waste your time and money at this place!

Give it a try and cook a German dish yourself -
or just find a friend that will make one for you  :)
[The Internet has plenty of easy recipes!]

    SO DISAPPOINTING!!!

I'm glad most people never had "real authentic German Food"
so they don't know what they are missing out!!!

Hubby and I had the most amazing time at Helga's, chillin in the bar the past Saturday night.  Everyone we encountered there was friendly and knowledgeable.  We only stopped by for a pretzel and some beers on our way to watch a fight, but we felt so at home we ended up staying much longer than planned.  The German beers are fantastic!  Can't wait to go back and have some schnitzel!

Can you believe all the Groupon/Living Social deals that I have to use over the next month before they expire?

I'm shocked that I waiting this long to use our "German Dining Experience for 2" at Helga's.

I could sum this review up pretty quickly:  "Outstanding service.  Excellent food"

DId I mention the outstanding service?  This is a big one for me and I appreciate it when we receive it.  The young lady who seated and waited on us last night was friendly, smiling, funny and overall made our meal enjoyable.

Our meal started with the bier and pretzel platter....wow....that pretzel was crisp on the outside, chewy on the inside and I should have probably only eaten half as it was huge and expanded to triple size once it soaked up the 6 different biers in the sampler.

My husband and I split the Rheinland Platter, described on their website as "A sampler extraordinaire. Helga's schnitzel, a Jager schnitzel and a veal bratwurst served with brown sauce and a lemon"   Almost everything was perfect.  The only thing I would change, it to get the regular spatzle, not the garlic butter pan fried as it was way too salty.

We were tempted by the lure of egg nog torte, but were smart enough to get it to-go and have it at home with coffee after we each were able to change into stretchier trousers.

My first visit to Helga's was with friends who had dined there a handful of times in the past. The atmosphere is quite nice, and the service is excellent. The food is above par, but I wouldn't drive an hour to seek out this place for German food. They had several different "schnitzel" options (veal, pork, chicken, breaded, grilled, covered with gravy, or gravy on the side, etc.) so everyone's palate was satisfied.

I also ordered the "pan fried" spatzle, and if it saw a pan, it must have been from across the room. However, it had a pleasant flavor even if it was not exactly as I had expected. The broiled tomato with cheese was marvelous. My husband ordered their soup of the day (goulash), which he enjoyed. Our friends ordered the red cabbage, and they raved about it during the meal.

I will return to Helga's, since it is near my home and they had some other items on the menu which looked interesting to me.

Great food, well made! We had a Groupon for Helga's -- otherwise, I had never heard of this restaurant. And it's hard to find -- tucked back in a far corner beside a shopping center. The restaurant is big -- so once you know where to go, there's no problem finding it. But you may have to look. (Look for the sign out front - that helps.)
Once in, the service was friendly (though it took a long time, in typical European style) and the food was excellent. We ordered the beer sampler (a lovely chewy pretzel along with 6 different beers) and the schnitzel platter. The Weiner schnitzel was good (could have been a tad crunchier, but I am used to true Vienna-types, too), the Jager (or 'Hunter's) schnitzel got raves from our party, and the Veal Bratwurst terrific. What really impressed me were the sides -- the kraut had bits of onion and ham, and the spatzel were downright outstanding. (The potato croquettes and veggies were terrific, too.)
People around us were all having a good time, too. This is a wonderful spot for a leisurely dinner with friends, and time to talk. We enjoyed ourselves very much.

We had dinner here twice in the last couple of months using a Groupon.  I made a reservation using Open Table.  When we arrived, we were seated at a table with a white table cloth.  Walk-ins get the bare tables.  Service has always been good and friendly.  They automatically add a 15% tip that is divided among all the servers.  The beer sampler with the pretzel was tasty.  The sampler platter had a good variety of German foods.  It could actually feed 3 people which it did the first time we visited.
We would return for some authentic German food and beer.

We came here for an early lunch on a weekday and had no problems getting seated quickly. But the place filled up very quickly while we were eating, which I suppose is a good sign.

Their menu didn't impress me much, and if you're not familiar with German food, you'll probably be lost. Nothing really caught my eye on the menu, except for the large pretzel. I didn't expect much for $3.00 but the pretzel was gigantic and the mustard sauce was pretty good, too.

My kids ordered the chicken schnitzel and weren't impressed. Seemed like a chicken patty dipped in Panko, I could have made that at home for far less.

They do have some interesting beers to try as well; my husband got an apple/soda one served in a glass boot, so that experience was kind of neat.

I will, however, give this place another try. I saw many plates being delivered to other tables that looked really damn good, so I'd like to go back and give it another shot - and higher ratings if their food impresses me more. The bill was a bit of a shock too, since they add 15% to your bill and state that tipping is optional. It was a little overpriced, I thought, but a definite must try if you're looking for something not-so fast food.

They also have a dog friendly patio, which is awesome! So next time we'll be returning with our German Shepherd!

It being October wanted some hearty, comfort German food and heard about Helga's.  Went with Hubby and Daughter and 4 year old grandson.

Arriving outside it is obvious this was once a "chain" restaurant, Chili's? Applebee's? Tried to recall but couldn't pin it down.  There was a nice "dog friendly" patio outside but it was rainy and yucky, had to go inside.

Walked in, cute decor, very German or Bavarian.  Lot's of beer steins, etc.  However, no one at the wait stand. Sign said to wait, and that is precisely what we did....wait. Another very weird thing that I have never, ever seen before in my life, was a sign posted saying there was a 15% "service charge" added to the bill and that tips essentially went to the owner, not the employee.   YIKES!!!!!!  Having once, many moons ago, been a server myself I was gobsmacked to see this posted for the whole world to see.  How creepy.

Finally we were seated and shortly a very nice young lady came over and took our orders.  Hubby had the Rouladen, daughter and I and baby had Weiner Schnitzel.  It took quite some for food to arrive but once receiving it was pretty great overall.  The only disappointment on my plate was the potato dumplings, they seemed a little greasy, but the Schnitzel was point on as was the Spatzle.  Hubby loved the Rouladen.

Food is not cheap, but very good overall.  Also liked the little deli which sells authentic German foodstuffs and steins, etc.

This place is really great overall, just which they would step up the service as far as wait time for food, drinks, also lose the tipping nonsense.  If your people were paid tips then service issues would be reduced.  If you know you aren't going to make more than minimum wage and the owner annouces that the tips belong to them, how hard are you going to try?  Really?   How hard is it to figure out.

    Food rocks however.

Decent food, lots of  variety and a full bar. At the end of the night the waitress said that even though the tip is included, no one there sees that money. The wait staff gets stiffed. If true it is not only extremely tacky but fraudulent also.

Be interested to get the owners take.

The food is good (I grew up in Germany), service is alright, but their decision to force everyone to pay a percentage of their bill as a mandatory tip (regardless of party size) is simply stupid.  We have not been back since they implemented this idiotic practice.

Once upon a time, a couple decades ago, the Aurora Mall area was my stomping ground.  One of my first jobs was literally across the parking lot from this place at a tux shop that hasn't existed an eon.  Anymore, it seems way out of the way although it really isn't.  So after seeing a few Helga's Groupons in the last year I finally decided to buy one to go get some good ole German food.

The restaurant is a nice size (old Chili's) and is decorated in a way that makes you feel like your have been transported to a Bavarian cottage.  It was busy on a Saturday, but we sat in the bar and gazed upon the giant beer boots an steins.

We did the sampler route.  Beer, pretzels, brats and sauerkraut.  It was all delicious.  The pretzel was warm and chewy.  The brats were yummy and the kraut and curry that was served with it gave  it a kick.

Service was right on and the price was right (although we did have a groupon). Still it was fun. I feel like I need to go back and drink a boot of beer and eat schnitzel and I just might very soon!

We got a groupon for Helga's for BOGO beer sampler and pretzel so decided to make this one of the stops for my birthday extravaganza. They're located fairly close to us and I love pretzels (and beer) so it seemed like a match made in heaven.

Service was quick and painless, although one big red flag was that it says all over the menu that they automatically calculate and add a 15% tip to your check. If everything is good I usually tip more than that but auto-adding it rubs me the wrong way so I won't do it in that case. When we checked out the tip was put on the check as  "service fee" and was based off the food, alcohol and tax. I normally don't tip on tax, either, so it was super annoying. There was also a line on the credit slip for another tip, so if you didn't know what you're doing and not paying attention you could conceivably double-tip.

All that being said, the service was good, the beer was good (although not terribly cheap), and the food was spectacular. We had the pretzels and a brat sampler and everything was good.

    We'll definitely be back!

It took an hour and a half to get food after everyone was seated. They delivered the food ten minutes before I needed to leave to go to work, and when I asked for a box, the waitress vanished, so I went to the kitchen and got one myself. In defense of the waitress, she was dealing with a ridiculously inefficient kitchen, and at least in the beginning appeared to be trying to accommodate people, unlike her fellow waitstaff.

The food was so-so. The schnitzel was tough and chewy instead of tender. Not bad but definitely not worth $17.

I will not be going back. I can go to Golden Europe and get just as good German food from a kitchen that knows what it is doing.

I came in and there was no one to seat me for a long , long, long, long, long, long, long, long , long time.

When another couple came in, they stood behind me, but the hostess came and got them. WTF????

I was wiating for my wife and was finally seated. I was really thirsty,. But no one ever came to see or acknolwedge me. A loligaging bus boy was oblivious never helped. Even afetr my wife arrived, we waited a long , long, long, long, long, long, long, long , long time.

We never  got water, never saw a server. Thrity five minutes after I arrived, we left. As I went out, I told a server what happened and she looked at me thunderstruck and gape jawed. But not a single word. No sorry, no attempt to get us service, just that vague look of disinterest.

Awful place. Oh by the way, we were drawn here by a Groupon. Talk about having the opposite effect of a promotion.

This place is extremely expensive for what you get.   Also, I don't know if it was because we were using a Groupon couon that the waiter thought it was the plan to ignore us, but he did.  Adding insult to injury they have a policy of a built-in %15 gratuity.  I think you should earn your tip and when you do I always tip 20% or better, but if all they want is a little 15% tip so be it I will not be back.

Waited at the front for 7 minutes until someone finally sat us. Some tables had table cloths, but we didn't rate that high I guess.
Waitress service was sporadic, but 15% gratuity is automatically added for all bills, so there's no reflecting your displeasure in that manor.
The food and beer was awesome, although the sauerkraut was just average.

I want to like Helgas. I do. But it took us a very long time to get there, and once getting our table, we waited and waited, and waited. We heard remarks from other tables "oh, the kitchen is short staffed", and "that dish takes longer to prepare". It was a little daunting. But what really killed it, was when we had been there for 20min-20min, and no water. I need my water. They give us the menu, but no water. WTH???I made eye contact with at least one waitstaff, but they just gave the head turn of shame. And still, no one came over. Finally, I just said-"lets leave" and leave is what we did.
I was really looking forward to this place-it just sucks that th waitstaff are so...non German. They really didn't give a *f* that we'd left. The husband even said to the hostess as we were leaving "we were here for 20min. and nobody took our order so were leaving". Do you think there was any kind of apology, like "I'm so sorry". Nope. They just didn't care. At all. And they weren't that busy...

I am from a German family so I know a lot about German food.  Most German restaurants in the United States have been a big disappointment but not Helga's.  I knew about Helga's for a long time, but didn't want to subject myself to another lackluster German meal in the United States.  I was wrong about Helga's.  This place is amazing!  Most of the menu items are made in house, which surprised me.  I had the Jägerschnitzel which was ok.  The Helga's Schnitzel seemed a bit better that someone else at my table had.  The sauerkraut is home made, so is the mustard that has a nice horseradish bite.  I even tried the home made Bavarian Cream cake-which was not the overly sugared American cake you often get here in the States.  By all means try the Jacobs Coffee.  Once you try this coffee you'll never look at Starbucks the same way.  The Jacobs Coffee (German Brand/Roasted) is just heavenly.

They also have a little deli where you can get meats & cheeses along with German products.

Overall a wonderful place if you are a strict German food lover!

I don't think I've ever been to a German restaurant and now I know why.

The food was pretty boring and I felt I could make most of the food myself for much much less. I have NO IDEA why the food was so expensive for so little food and so little preparation...but I guess that's just how German food is.  So if you like German food and beer, this is a good place for you.  But if you're ambivalent about it, there are much better places to pay $15-20 for a plate.

Their other attraction is drinking out of a boot but besides that, their beer selection is pretty limited to Spaten beer.  I think since it's by a mall and they will get customers regardless, they can charge and serve what they want.  I, however, will not be back to this place but can see it's appeal to others.

I am all about the family-owned, home-made, serve up good food place that Helga's epitomizes.  This was my first visit to Helga's.  This is not a fancy place.  This is a homey place that not only serves delicious German food, but also has a little market place on the other side of the dining room where you can buy all sorts of German delicacies like candies, deli items and packaged pastas.  They are also the first and only place I've found in the metro area that carries German rye bread from a little bakery down in Colorado Springs.  The stuff is to die for.

On the night my big brother and I ate at Helga's, they had a little special where you got a complimentary sausage platter if you ordered two meals.  It wasn't anything fancy, and they can certainly take a few Food Network classes on plating, but the assortment of different sausages went really nicely with our ice-cold, dark ales that we sloshed around with.

I ordered a chicken schnitzel and my brother ordered the bratwurst platter.  Lots of food that was pretty basic and tasty.  I ordered the speatzle and Ken had the saurkraut - and we had enough left-over to bring home a full, extra dinner for the next night.  Prices are reasonable, too.

Try it out.  There are so few restaurants like this one.

I liked this place. Anywhere that has real German Biers has an advantage with me.  They had a special today, Hasenpfeffer. I chose Kraut and red cabbage as my two sides. The sides were ok, but Bugs Bunny was the real star of my meal. I was with a large group so I tried some of the other dishes, the Schnitzel was very good & I'm a Schnitzel snob.

Katya was our server & she did an exceptional job.

Das beste Deutsch Essen in Colorado! The food here is great if you're searching for authentic German cuisine. However, if you don't actually know what real German cuisine consists of I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. It's not an acquired taste, but it may not be what you're looking for. But liter steins of beer and excellent schnitzel keep us coming back. The deli is great too. Ich kann Der Spiegel nochmal lesen! It's a bit of a drive from Denver, but worth it every time. The staff is always friendly and the beer always cold. I can't wait for my next visit on polka Friday!

Everything the other reviewers say about the bad service is true.  In fact, we probably won't be back because of it.  For example, we were given a child's menu but had to ask for crayons from the server that met us 15 minutes later.  Turns out they are paid minimum wage and it states all over the menu that tipping is not necessary, so that is likely why the service is sub-par.

I liked the food, and so did my friend who went with us.  My girlfriend Katie dubbed it bland though.  I thought it was tasty and finished her dish.  I had the beer sampler and really enjoyed the Oktoberfest and Dark Lager best.

I will probably find an excuse to go back with different people despite the bad service.  My girlfriend however will not join me.

Aside from Italian, there is a dire shortage of good European restaurants in the US, so finding an authentic German restaurant near my hotel was a huge relief to me. Being greeted by a cute blond in traditional Bavarian attire, with a subtle Germanic accent supported my decision to stop in here. Plus, they have a little gift shop, where you can pick up some chocolates to take home to the lady-friend after spending that much time with the guys, and that much money on brews.

You can expect personable, professional service, in a clean, energetic, Nordic-style dining area. You should also know that quality food, wonderful flavor, and pleasant smiles come standard with each order. They provide a descent selection of good German brews as well. Might I suggest the back lager?

You may be able to see, I'm definitely a fan; I'll be back at my earliest convenience.

I have had some pretty good German before, like Schmidt's Sausage Haus und Restaurant outside of Columbus, OH.  This place is not that but it's alright.

Their brats are decent and the sauerkraut is really quite good.  Of course the Spaten bier is good too.  ;-)

I did notice that I was stuffed after I ate lunch and wasn't hungry again until late that night.  If you eat here, it's going to be with you a while.

I love some German food so this was a must stop while I was in town.  I never knew there was any German places around Denver; so I was happy to learn about this place.  While it's not great German, it's good enough to go get your German fix on should you be looking to do so.

The best part of Helga's for me ? A Pet friendly patio !

Yes, you can bring your drooling shedding mutt to lunch with you and eat on their patio. We've even seen someone lunching with their PARROT ( no kidding!). The owner was kind enough to take a moment and come pet my pooch. She brought  him a drink of water and later in our meal refilled the bowl of water.  Now, if that isn't service for your favorite furry friend, than I don't know what is !

Real Authentic German food. Reasonable Prices.  A fun German atmosphere and the owners are actually German!

Make sure to buy their Apfel (apple for all you non German speakers) Strudel up front in the German deli.

Last Friday of every month they host a live German band for an even more authentic experience.

    Three words:  Best Steak Ever!

I am definitely a fan of Helga's.  The food was delicious, the servings generous, and the service is friendly.  I also really dig the cuckoo clocks and the gift shop had a lot of cool snacks, candies, and magazines from Germany.

I recommend the schnitzel fingers for an appetizer.  It's a nice reprieve from your everyday chicken fingers.  It comes with a tasty sweet and sour sauce and a buffalo wing sauce.

For my entree, I went with the rib-eye rump steak Ebertsheim, pan-fried potatoes, and spatzle.  It was the most perfectly seasoned steak I've ever had and it went really well with the fried onions and potatoes.  As for the spatzle, I'm not a fan.  It was just bland noodles.

My dinner companion got the Bauern steak with kroketten and red cabbage.    The kroketten had an almost pastry like flavor, so it kind of threw me off.  The red cabbage, on the other hand, was delicious and goes perfectly with steak.

I would've loved to have dessert, but there just wasn't any room left after wolfing my dinner down.  This is definitely on my list of places to eat while in the area.  Next time, I'm trying the all-you-can-eat schnitzel dinners they have on Mondays!

Definitely not the best or most authentic German food I've ever had, but it's still pretty good. It's close to home and a much better option than some horrible chain restaurant.

Prices are reasonable. 1/2 portions are definitely the way to go if you don't want leftovers. If you like beer, the Octoberfest drafts are great. 1/3 liter (11oz or so) is only $3.

They also have a nice little patio area that is dog-friendly, which is very cool.

Overall, a very nice local joint. I'll definitely be back.

It was my second time back to Helga's but for some reason, it wasn't as good as I remembered.  I had the pork Schnitzel and it wasn't that impressive.  Maybe because it's a little flat, which makes the bread vs. pork ration to be a bit dis-proportioned.

Had their beer cake (I think that's what she said) for dessert and THAT was amazing.

Too bad the food wasn't better because the waitress was super friendly and the dessert was good.  But if I wanted pork Schnitzel, I would probably head down to Sobo151 next time for theirs.

I remember this place from when it was in that little strip center a little farther north.  So I was super happy to re-find it via Yelp.  Yay Yelp!

As mentioned in many other reviews, everything here is wonderful.  The food is great, our server was fantastic.  Friendly, knowledgeable, paced the meal well, everything.

So we started with a Black Lager and a Soft Pretzel.  The lager was strong and not overly filling, matching well with the boiled pretzel and mustard.

We were at Helga's... so naturally, we had to Schnitzel.  (We also had to Streudel.  But we Streudeled later.)  We got the Jager Schnitzel, Pork Cutlets topped with Onions, Mushrooms, and Hunter's Sauce.  Light yet filling, with Spaetzle and Sauteed Squashes on the side.  Very Nom Nom.  However, the Spaetzle were not hand-made, which was a big disappointment to me.  I'm used to the authentic, misshapen, hand-shaped, pan-fried mini dumplings with butter.  This Spaetzle was simply linguine noodles.  Good-tasting and paired well with the Schnitzel, but still part of the reason for the missing star.

The Saurbraten was perfectly sweet-tart, with the recommended sides of Red Cabbage and Fried Potato Croquettes.  The beef was tender enough, but could have been a TAD less dry.  That's just me being picky, but still.

Naturally, the Black Lager paired well with all.

And don't even get me started on the homemade Apple Streudel.

So why isn't it 5 stars?  Well, ambience.  Helga's is not in any language expensive (Beer, appetizer, 2 meals, dessert, and leftovers for less than $50.)  but neither is it cheap.  So, looking out the windows at parked cars, Military Recruits playing football, and steamy asphalt just takes away from the cutsey-German feel that Helga's could have.  They just need to invest in some frosted-glass windows, maybe some more crocheted curtains, something, to block that million-dollar, parking lot view.   Also, they need to update their website.  We waited to go until Thursday night, specifically when the "Special" day was NOT "Kids Eat Free" day... Guess What?  Thursday **IS** Kids Eat Free Day.  Consider Yourself Forewarned.

Regardless, though, we'll be returning.  Repeatedly.  That black lager alone is enough to drag me out to Aurora on a semi-regular basis.

    Photos coming soon.

Went with a couple people for lunch the other day and it was fantastic. It was a cold day so I warmed up with some Gluhwein. We got a couple orders of schnitzel and an order of the brats. Everything was delicious.

The building it okay, it's locate in an older Chili's, but keeps a German feel with the decorations and German music playing. There's also a great little deli/store at the front. I highly recommend the house mustard, sooooo good.

Where to start on Helga's, where to start?

Let's start here:  Everything is delicious.

Helga's was a cute little place on 6th in the icky Hoffman Heights shopping center until about two years ago.  My family used to love going there, with its Bavarian decor and yummy food.  Then it moved, to a slightly less cute but nicer location near the Aurora Mall in an ill fated Chili's (turned into many bad incarnations of sports bar in the meantime).  It still has a German feel, but has lost some of the adorable lace curtains and things like that.

No matter, the food is to die for.  The Rahm Schnitzel, a fried pork cutlet topped with mushroom gravy is my favorite thing to eat there.  My mom and I can easily share one, or I get a whole order and take leftovers home for lunch the next day.  Chicken schnitzel is also wonderful.  I adore their cucumber salad, no I CRAVE their cucumber salad.  We've had ham hocks and potato pancakes and sausage platters and we're always satisfied!

They have a little patio in the Summer which is dog friendly, a big plus for me and my mutt.  My husband and I will go have a drink and a snack on the patio and the mutt enjoys going with us.

There is a little store attached to the restaurant which sells German foods, deli meats, chocolates and other trinkets.  Very cute.

Helga's staff is friendly and the service is always good, although it can be slow at times.  Some Fridays, they have a band come play polka on accordions, always a good time.

Helga's gets two thumbs up from me!

Edited to make Jager Schnitzel say Rahm Schnitzel.  I got them mixed up.

I've been going to Helga's ever since it was in that teeny, weeny little spot over on 6th and Peoria. And I am pleased as punch that their spacious new digs are even better!

One of my favorite dishes at the restaurant is Wiener Schnitzel. This Austrian-in-origin veal cutlet is of course also very popular next door, and Helga's does it impressively well. They also offer schnitzels in other varieties, like Rahm (creamy pork) or Jäger (hunter's style - with a dark mushroom sauce).

Or could Sauerbraten be the dish for you? Long simmered beef in a vinegar-gingersnap marinade, this one will infiltrate your tastebuds in a most pleasant manner.

My favorite sides are the Blaukraut (soft and tangy red cabbage) and the through-a-colander dumplings called Spätzle, but you honestly can't go wrong with any of them. Then, finish with a homemade strudel, or maybe some cake. But with portions this large you'll really have to shovel it in.

On your way out, stop for a moment in their shop and peruse the offerings available. I like the woodruff-flavored syrup (it reminds me of one of my favorite Russian sodas, Tarkhun), and the very German candy with the oddly Spanish name - Bueno!

Wow!!! Great Food! I will be back soon!

I had rouladen, knoedel and red cabbage. Really tasty and large portions. My wife had the sauerbraten and that was good as well.

Strudel and cheesecake was good as well. Take some home if you can't eat it there!

Having lived in Germany for 4 years I love German food!!!!  I also know its tough to find decent German food in the U.S.

In the Denver/Aurora area Helga's is one of the best around. The Schnitzel is quite delicious and the beer is good (of course).  The pricing is very reasonable and it is easy to walk out of the place not feeling like you spent a fortune.

Not all the food is authentic German stuff and i've never found a place in the U.S. that compares to Germany but this is one I would recommend.

The service is good, good prices, and they try to give it the German atmosphere. There is also a nice little shop where you can pick up some chocolates or various trinkets. Try it out.

    PROST!!

My brother and I were both raised in Germany: he LOVES Helga's, while I'm kinda 'eh' about it.  To be fair, I'm now a vegetarian while he loves anything with a face ... and I mean, what's German food without meat?  Nearly every restaurant we ever went to in Germany had dead animals covering the walls.  That's just how they roll.

    He swears by the schnitzel.

I had a pretzel that boasted "served with authentic German mustard."  I asked our waitress for the mustard and she pointed to the bottle of that Americanized grain mustard (the name escapes me) sitting on the table.

Um, German mustard that comes in those cute little cups please?

I had some unnoteworthy sides of fried potato dumplings, which were rubbery and greasy.  And ... yeah, that was about it.

The beer, however, was pretty tasty.

So, if you like meat snacks, I - going off my brother's love for this place - recommend it.  For me, however, I found it all kind of disappointing.

Our waitress, however, was very doting to my 6-month-old nephew.  Extremely accomodating in helping us with a larger table when more friends showed up, too.  Pleasant, kind staff.

We were on our way to my husband's chain restaurant of choice when I saw the Helga's sign.  When I worked on Lowry years ago, the retired Army guys I worked with had spent a lot of time based in Germany and turned me on to Helga's when it was at Peoria and 6th.  Now it's in a re-purposed Chili's near Aurora Mall.

Go hungry.  Don't count calories.  Order a spritzer (Sprite and red wine.)  Our waiter was a little too blase and used "guys" one too many times, but gave good service.  I think my husband was expecting a girl in one of those serving wench costumes.

I ordered a big platter with brat, veal, and something else.  The sides are the best -- my fav is the red cabbage, but they know their way around a potato.  Yum.  I wish I'd saved room for dessert because they have some great ones.  Danke schoen.

A great place to get honest-to-goodness homemade German food. Recently relocated from the scary Hoffman Heights strip mall to this good location off of I25 and Alameda, Helga's THE place to go for schnitzel!

Basically, everything on the menu is delicious. Classic wiener schnitzel, jaeger schnitzel, chicken schnitzel, brats, 'bretzels', etc - it's all good. New to this restaurant is the offering of liter and two liter beers (and half liter for a quick tightener)!  EXCELLENT!

A special on the menu the night we went was mahi-mahi. At first I was like "um, yeah OKAY - at a German restaurant?" until my husband reminded me the head chef was an avid fisherman and it was probably excellent. Didn't try it - but would next time (i needed my schnitzel fix).

Service was friendly and we were comped dessert due to a bartending snafu - much appreciated and it indicates that the management is actually paying attention to stuff like that.

Bonuses to this restaurant include a full bar inside the restaurant, a German gift shop with fresh gummy candy and deli meats, and a ping-pong toss to win your beer glass at the end of your meal.

Second and last Fridays of the month promise even more fun German hi-jinx with live music and dancing. Audience participation makes this a BLAST if you're drinking the one liter beers!
