Good location and there was plenty of room inside. Â It was air conditioned and priced so so. Â Honestly the food was nothing special. Â The waitresses were definitely inexperienced and not too o top of things. Â She was confused by drink orders too. Â I am certain there are better choices in town.
Review Source:Walked down market street looking to hang out with friends and eventually passed this place. The bar looked somewhat empty even though a lot of the other places on the street were comparatively fool, but we thought we'd give it a shot anyways. I soon found out why this was...in the back of the bar there are stairs that head up two levels which connects it to another bar and gives you access to a rooftop. It was the perfect place to hangout and chill while enjoying the great weather outside.
If you're looking for a good place to chill, I would definitely recommend it. However I take away stars based on the slow service we received (no bar outside so need to wait on the waitress) and lack of music outside. Some background noise would have been nice.
I might go back again tonight, but if I can find another rooftop bar with quicker service and some music, I'll quickly jump ship on this place.
The epicenter of Charleston's entitled-drunk-rich-kid douchebaggery. Â Truly one of the saddest place I have ever been. Â This is not necessarily the fault of the ownership and I'm sure they're making money hand over fist. Â The bartenders were very nice, very patient with the Lord of the Flies crowd they had to deal with. Â My hell.
Review Source:Overpriced drinks, guidos everywhere, they sell steak and French fries as an entree which I found to be pretty similar to something you would find on tables at golden corral. Our server was very confused which was weird because none of us changed seats to throw off any order she had. Also the bartenders handed me a 14 dollar tab when all I ordered was a yuengling. I called them out on it and one of the bartenders fixed it automatically and apologized but the other bartender just kept yelling at him for some reason. It was obvious they weren't kidding and it was super unprofessional watching them fight.
Review Source:There was a cover charge for some and not others. You can't get into certain parts of the bar that is blocked by bouncers even if you've been in there just a few minutes before and you're friends are on the other side. It was 1:45, they close at 2:30 and the bartenders and bouncers start yelling for everyone to close out their tabs and get out. I just thought the whole place was rude and snobby.
Review Source:Location: Right on N. Market St. so it's a great location for a tourist or someone looking for a busy place.
Food: "Meh." I had the pulled pork tacos and they were solid. For apps we had Fried Calamari, Spinach & Artichoke Dip, and the Crab Cakes. It was borderline pub fare. Not really good at all.
Service: Also a "meh." I'll cut our server a little slack because she was the only one working the roof at the time but, we asked for our apps to come first and of course they came w/ with rest of our meal. Also, it took 15 minutes to get our drinks after we ordered them. At one point, I filled my own water glass.
My bridesmaids and I stopped in here late on the first night of my bachelorette weekend and the place was definitely busy. A few different levels and settings ranging from bar/dance club/live music/deck but nothing outstanding.
The real reason for the 5 star rating is the AMAZING security/bouncer staff that saved us from overly intoxicated cocky guys that targeted us (admittedly it was probably the bachelorette gear that I was sporting).
All it took was making eye contact with the (gorgeous!) security in the downstairs bar to have him sweep in and escort some creepy guys (in a tiger costume?!) away from our table and eventually out the door.
Thank you for saving our night!
I organized a bachelorette party here and it was amazing. The guy behind the bar was super nice and let me come a few hours early to set up a table for my group. We went on a Thursday, and while it sucks that their kitchen closes at 10pm, the atmosphere was fun, the crowd was cool, and our waitress was super sweet.
Review Source:Not to shabby. Pretty decent Southern fried chicken Tacos as well as She Crab soup. The patty melt is a decent burger as well. The price is a touch high but the food quality was pretty good. It's a bar at night that's for sure... Good for lunch during the day and drinks in the evening.
Review Source:Waste of our precious time! Â The one star is for the rooftop balcony and the music that kept us relaxed as we waited for our food. Â One server for 3 flights up and a full house not good management. Â The waitress took our order and then forgot to turn it in so when I reminded her we only had 2 hours before a commitment she came back after an hour letting us know the order hadn't been placed and couldn't guarantee we would be out in the next hour! Â We high tailed it out. Â Wished I'd had checked Yelp before we went to Henry's- wouldn't had gone if I'd read the reviews.
Review Source:Fun bar at night!
I was in Charleston for a bachelorette party, and we went to Henry's two nights in a row. There are a bunch of sections (separate bars/clubs) and it is easy to lose someone, but the music was great in every room, drinks were reasonably priced, and the wait for a drink at the bar wasn't too long. We visited a few other spots in Charleston, but this was our favorite!
This is the hand to the FACE I got when leaving tonight at the all to early time of 1:41...if you like getting kicked in the face as a way to leave ...this is your jam! Manners if the south are lost on these people....I will never go again. Way to REALLY earn my first POOR rating...never thought I'd see the day....
Review Source:Came for late lunch after shopping. Unique, funky modern,
cool atmosphere.
Similar decor to Red Bar in Grayton Beach, Fl but
better. Â Attentive waitress. Actually had our 9 year old
with us and it was fine as was still afternoon time.
No smoke smell.  Food  was surprisingly great!? Husband's
crab cake sandwich was mild, light and moist. My fried
green tomato BLT on rye so good and our kid
gave a thumbs up to his grilled cheese and really
good fries. Really would return to this place. Great
stop not far from the marketplace and such.
This place has an awesome roof-top with nice comfy chairs. Â However, don't go up there thirsty, because you aren't going to get a drink anytime soon. Â
One of the waitresses passed us on the stairs on our way up... so we mistakenly thought she'd be back up to get our order. Â Almost 30 mintues later, we gave up and went downstairs. Â We got a seat by the window and paitently waited again for service. Â It was really slow downstairs too. I made the mistake of ordering a margarita, and it was nothing but icky tasting sour mix.
:-( Â
My advice if you decide to check this place out is to go up to the bar to place your order, and skip the cocktails - get a beer instead.
Besides the cool rooftop bar, this place also has live music. Â The night we were here, there was a really good singer belting out some tunes. Â It's really too bad that the service and drinks suck here.
We took the carriage ride in downtown Charleston and decided to get something to eat afterward. This was our first visit to Charleston and we didn't know very much about the places but thought we'd give Henry's a try (we had a 10% off coupon). This was our third day of vacation and up to this point the food was "just ok"...nothing to brag about. I was expecting the same from Henry's but was pleasantly surprised to find the food was delicious. We ordered the fried green tomatoes, turkey reuben and pulled pork sandwich. We could have actually split a plate because there was so much food...we could only eat half. The fried green tomatoes were delicious! My turkey reuben was awesome! The prices were the best we had found in comparison to the other restaurants around too! I will definitely go back if we are back in that area.
Review Source:Awesome little place in the middle of busy Market. 2 levels of patios on the roof (only downside, no view and no umbrellas... Hot). After roasting for a few moments I wised up and stepped inside. Food was average. Nothing that'll blow your mind but good pub food. Service was excellent. I don't care for an overbearing server that can't find anything better to do than to ask me 100 times during my meal how I'm doing... Typically at the exact moment that I take a bite. Everything here was perfect. Food good. Service great. Location awesome. Can't go wrong.
Review Source:Great customer service! We went here on our first night in town for some drinks. The live music was great and the bar staff was nice. We did have a problem with our bill. We realized two days later that our credit card was charged twice...and I couldn't find my receipt. However, when we went in to talk to the manager they were great about the whole thing, found their copy of the receipt and refunded us the $
Review Source:This large Irish bar seems to be a fixture in Historic Charleston. It was pretty busy the night we popped in, so I am mostly excusing the slow cocktail service (we should have sat at the bar). I was amazed by the multitude of outdoor decks - they have several different levels, rooms and bars. There is a nightclub attached (NV) and live music was just getting starting when we left - - when we passed by here later in the evening the joint was freaking packed!
Review Source:We stopped into Henry's for a drink and some appetizers. Â We walked around the place and enjoyed the old feel it emanates. Â We found a spot on the very top outdoor deck. Â This is January and the weather was unusually warm but low 60's in the late afternoon and still a bit chilly up there. Â
We ordered a couple of bottled beers, the fried green tomatoes and the she crab soup. Â THE SHE CRAB SOUP WAS THE BEST WE HAD WHILE HERE. Â I can't stop thinking about it and wish I had asked for their recipe. The waitress was friendly and helpful.
I wouldn't pick this place for a nice evening and as I understand it is jumpin on the weekend nights. Â it was perfect for a afternoon snack.
Placed seemed ok when I first walked in, pretty large crowd for a Thursday night and music was surprisingly pretty good (thank you DJ for not playing techno all night!)
The downside:
Mixed drinks aren't worth your bucks. I could possibly have grown immune to the way the bartenders in southern cali make their drinks (more alcohol than juice), but in all seriousness as I was sipping my cranberry and vodka...I seriously thought i was drinking a cup of juice with a small splash of vodka. For $7 I would expect to at least taste a hint of vodka, but my taste buds honestly could not find that little drop of vodka in my glass engulfed with cranberry juice. Attempting to satisfy my taste buds with that hint of alcohol I tried my sister's mixed drink (rum, pineapple juice and cranberry) and yet again I was highly disappointed. Another mouthful of juice! Just perfect! The bar I was at earlier that night made stronger drinks at the same cost. = My bf's Jameson and coke was also "weak" to his tasting. In an effort to try and enjoy our night we resorted to taking shots at the bar, which wasn't too bad. Although the bartender did mess up on our order which resulted in us getting a double shot of patron instead of one so maybe it wasn't that bad....?!?
Here's the hitch: I would definitely recommend starting your tab at the bar to avoid seeing random drinks charge on your bill at the end of the night. I must admit the cocktail waitress definitely pulled a fast one on us. You can't imagine how many times we asked her for our bill only to receive "oh you don't have a tab open so you're good" response. Any sane person would think "ok maybe she forgot we ordered drinks or is hooking it up" Errrrrk....wroooong! It wasn't until the end of the night when we realize what she did. Oh she kept tabs on the few drinks our party ordered alright along with some other party who was "hanging/dancing" beside us. There was a good few shots and extra drinks on our bill which we had no memory of ordering. Since most of our party ordered beer after realizing how weak their mixed drinks are, it wasn't that hard to conclude that no one ordered lemon drops or shots of barcadi. Arguing with her got no where and waiting to talk to the manager was out of the picture. Being the gentleman that he was one of our friends dished out the extra cash for drinks that none of us ever got to enjoy just to avoid seeing the cocktail waitress tear up.
It seems this is the go to spot (according to Charlestons yelpers); though it definitely wouldn't make my top bar list for Charleston nor would I recommend the place to any friends unless there is nothing else open around the area when one is craving for a quick "weak" drink. Just avoid having the cocktail waitress serve you and if you can't avoid that, make sure you keep track of what you're ordering unless you're feeling generous that night and don't mind paying for others' drinks.
At first the waitress seemed like she was hooking us up with drinks, telling us that we have no charges after we asked her to close out our tabs. Then at the end of the night she tries to stick my husband with a $140 bill AFTER we had already paid our tab!!!!!! Apparently she tried to stick us with other people's drinks!!! I had ONE drink!!!! If you do decide to go there, DON'T start a tab!!! Just order straight from the bar and pay your stuff right away. I'm just saying.
Review Source:I came here at night so my review might be biased. But if you want to go to a place and get your drink on, this isn't it. Their drinks are super weak. They have good music, but one of their blonde waitresses are retarded. She couldn't keep track of our tabs and so we had to pay extra at the end of the night.
My recommendation would be to go to this place as a last resort. And if you come here, make sure to order straight from the bar. And also, be careful of keeping a tab open cuz I don't know how competent the bartenders are. I wish I could give this place 0 stars.
I love Henry's. I visit Charleston in the summer for 2 weeks every year and this is the one place I can have fun as a young adult and also enjoy a cocktail or two with my parents and rest of my family. It's friendly towards everyone and I think that's the key to a really great, relaxed bar like this. It has potential for you and the group you're with to have an absolute blast or for you and a few friends to relax and throw back a few.
I love the large bar downstairs. The inside upstairs I can pass on but it certainly is fun on a Saturday night with a big crowd. The outside patio upstairs is so pleasant and I've always had great service while up there too.
Henry's is A+ in my book. I'll gladly come here a few nights in a row because it's that cozy.
This place was amazing to say the least. Â My wife and I were in Charleston for our vacation a couple of weeks ago and came across this place the second night we were there. Â Talk about a friendly staff. Â Most other places we went to, the staff was quite cold and just wanted to serve us and go. Â This place was quite different. Â The entire barstaff was amazing and so were the servers. Â We liked this place so much that we went back the two more evenings. Â The upstairs patio was awesome, but we kept to the bar mainly because of the heat. Â I would recommend to anyone to make sure to stop by this place when in Charleston. Â I know the next time I am there this place will be first on my list. Â Great job!
Review Source:The atmosphere makes this place...not to mention the killer patio upstairs. Â If only it wasn't so cold when I was there, I am dreaming of hanging out on the comfy lounge seating right about now.
The inside feels like an old saloon, the bartenders are friendly and fun, the crowd is lively and I love that there is live music nightly. Â I don't have a 9 to 5 so it's great to have a cool place to hang out on weekdays.
Save a seat for me on that patio, I'm there as soon as I get back.
Cool around the corner type bar. Â The TVs can also be mirrors which is awesome! Â The bartenders are friendly. Â Wine selection is minimal so don't go here for wine. Â Drink a beer or two while you enjoy the fried oysters or the deviled eggs. Â They are really quite good. Â Atmosphere is cool. Â It's a man's bar for sure, so if you want to find a cute boy, this is the place for you. Â I recommend you try this place later on in the night, maybe with a group of people.
Check it out! Â Enjoy and Cheers!
I wound up wandering around downtown Charleston on a Saturday night, trying to stir up some trouble. Eventually, I came across this bar called Henry's. There were a few guys out front and I stopped and asked them if the bar was any good. We had a short conversation about how I defined a "good," they told me to come in and have a drink with them.
This place is a pretty run of the mill bar from the looks of things. I think there was a juke box on one wall, some booths on another. Not a whole lot to set this place apart from other bars. But the bartenders were really nice and it is PACKED on a Saturday night. Had it not been for my new-found friends, I would never have been able to actually get at the bar for a drink.
And the diversity of the people in the bar was also just a strange mix of everyone. There were a lot of college girls and guys hanging out, but there were also a lot of older professional looking types around the place. The fact that this diversity was present definitely adds to this places charm. As I had been told before entering, "Henry's is the place where everyone in Charleston eventually winds up." I guess this is true. It does seem like a catch-all type bar. Eventually my new friends ordered shots for every girl in the bar (and all the bartenders) and that really started a party going. 'Cause really, who doesn't like free shots?
I went back the next night, and admittedly, on a Sunday, there wasn't a very big crowd. But the bartenders were still really friendly and I found out that drinks were not too bad on the price front. They are on par with every other bar. Without the huge crowd hindering my view I realized the place is a lot  bigger than I had thought the night before. And for having such a large crowd in there the night before, the place was really clean, even the bathrooms, and that kind of gave me a good feeling. The bar is well run and well maintained. So really, how can you go wrong with that?
My point of view for Henry's may be a little biased due to having a couple of guys make my night rock, but that is not going to stop me from letting it happen. This bar really isn't special except for how popular it seems. And boy is it ever popular. Bars with a large following can be a lot of fun if you are the mood, and if you are in the mood for a big crowd, I could safely recommend Henry's to you. Although if you stay until last call and are in need of a cab ride home, you are unfortunately S.O.L. but that isn't the bar's fault.
