We came here at the recommendation of a friend and were so glad we did.  I've read some of the other reviews and wonder if the writers were even in the same place & I can't understand how you can criticize serving coffee in a glass - that writer obviously hasn't been to Europe.  Anyway, we had a great breakfast here two days in a row.  The service was great, very friendly and helpful.  The food was delicious and well presented.  One day, I had the roasted veggie scramble with bacon and a fruit salad.  Lovely presentation and flavor, plus the fruit was so fresh and seasonal, with a light ginger & mint syrup.  My husband had the breakfast burrito and received extra jalapenos for his meal, which he loved.  The next day, my husband tried the Sunday brunch, which was a Mexican theme and really loved it, especially the homemade re-fried beans.  I had the poached eggs and pot roast (yes, I know, pot roast is a dinner thing, but it was so good).  And I loved the foccacia toast - nice change from wheat or sour dough.  I don't drink coffee, but my husband liked their selection and I loved all the teas they offered.  Often, when we go to a coffee shop, I only get to chose from one or two - they had a great selection of regular and herbal. We don't live in Reno, but brought some local friends both days and they were excited to find a good place on this side of town.   We will certainly be back and I have already started recommending it to everyone I know.  Thanks, Hi Point, for a great start to the day!

Hi Point was surprisingly great. I thought because of the signage out on McCarran that this place was going to be nothing too amazing. I was certainly proven wrong! I would recommend this cafe over any others in town. The theme of the cafe seems to be "community," they do a good job sticking to this theme with the decorations, local art, and message boards. (I am also a huge fan of the bicycle wheel wall). The food was outstanding, coffee great, and customer service would be near impossible to beat. The employees and owner of Hi Point were all very friendly and welcoming. We will be making this our new weekend place to eat from now on.

Great little coffee shop. Breakfast was delicious here on Saturday. The staff is very friendly and accommodating of specific requests and substitutions. Prices aren't bad either. We'll definitely be back!

I really like the coffee and breakfast here - mostly I've stuck with mochas and pastries and they are quite good. Hi Point has a relaxing feel inside, definitely a good place to chill out and do a bit of reading or homework

    be careful!!

had lunch here today and asked the server if there was any bacon in the potatoe soup (i am vegitarian) to which she said no.

after several spoonfulls i discovered that the soup was full of ham!!!!!

you would think they would have had a clue about why i didn't want bacon inthe soup given the image this place tries to have.

    very dissapointed

A welcoming coffee house for all ages.   Delicious baked goods, and wonderful Sunday brunches that are not your usual fare!  It's nice to finally have a decent coffee house in NW Reno.

I love Hi Point. The owner is very nice and involved in the community quite a bit doing clothing drives, book discussions, and just community based things.  She`s a great cook and I love that I see her shopping at the Farmer`s Markets when the season allows and that she cooks as many things from scratch as possible.

The coffee is consistently good, the staff is very friendly, and the vibe is good. I much rather prefer spending my money in a local small business instead of corporate America.

I don`t eat bread so I can`t vouch for any of the pastries except her homemade cinnamon rolls which my kids and husband love.

We like to frequent local businesses, especially for a coffee drink and breakfast/breakfast pastry.  Why would you NOT go to the the local business over the large corporate conglomeration just across the street?  No brainer, right?

So, we thought we found our new favorite when we first visited Hi Point AND it gave us a warm and fuzzy feeling knowing we're supporting our local economy at the same time.

First few times we went, we were charmed by the place and by the folks, and the coffee drinks were good and the food, while nothing to really rave about, was definitely good enough.

What happened? did the ownership or management change?  We haven't a clue, but suddenly we found that the coffee drinks were crap and the food started leaving the kitchen without any quality control.

The very last time I went (which was about a year ago), I stopped in on my way to work and ordered stuff to go.  Old-fashioned Donut Muffins were the morning's offerings and my mouth was watering at the thought.  Upon order, the owner said they didn't turn out as expected but she was going to sell me one anyway.  Being a big Gordan Ramsay fan, and having the expectation that only the best and freshest food should be served to every customer at every restaurant, I was a bit disappointed to hear this.  I should have trusted my gut because just to look at this muffin you could see something was wrong--it was flat and funny looking.  And, even still warm from the oven, was the worst thing I ever tasted.  She obviously turned a complacent blind eye to how it looked, and worse, didn't even taste one.

Now I understand why the conglomeration across the street is always packed.  It may not be the best Reno has to offer, but it's consistent, and when you're in a hurry and need something to wake you up in the morning on your way to work, it's, unfortunately, the only choice in NW Reno.

I love Hi Point and I wish it was still my local coffee shop.  I actually wish Hi Point would open a location in Incline VIllage, a cute town which desperately needs a coffee shop with a soul.

Occasionally there are after-hours yoga classes and live music.  Unfortunately the hours of the coffee shop are not conducive to great attendance but the artists are consistently good, as are the yoga instructors.

Hi Point is not a place to go if you are in a rush, but if you are in the mood for delicious, home-cooked, nourishing food and a creative coffee drink, this is the place.  The baked goods are exquisite, and all home-made.  Not fancy, but soooooo good.

The food, coffee, wifi & ambiance is consistant and the service is minimal, but good.  There is no pretension at Hi Point and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good meal, and a place to sit for a while and catch up  on some work.

I really like Hi Point.  The coffee is good, and the wifi is good too.  However, the real selling point on this place is how friendly and helpful the staff is.  I must have driven past Hi Point a hundred times before noticing it was there, and I'm sure glad I noticed it!  It looks like they have a new regular customer!

Fun place. Love the coffee. I especially enjoyed the pumpkin pie latte. Yummmmm! The baked goodies are delicious.

My husband and I enjoy the music too. Very intimate venue. Need some lights for the stage area though.

My husband and I had a Groupon to use up here and I am so glad we did.  I ordered a pumpkin pie latte (made with REAL pumpkin) which was absolutely amazing.  I had the cheesy grits with poached eggs, bacon, and greens - a bit garlicky for my taste for breakfast, but still tasty.  My husband had the crepes with blackberries and cottage cheese which was a treat and not too sweet.  We will be back!

I found this addorable coffee shop witha groupon and have to say it has become a favorite.  The lunch menu is filled with imaginative and delicious choices.  The fresh ingredients make everything wonderful.  I especially love the tomato bisque (only offered in cool weather).  The Mexican Coke is tasty and unusual.  I think the location is a little off the beaten path, but that helps to create a friendly, hometown, family atmospherre.  I highly recommend Hi Point!

I'm shocked and appalled that this place has 4 stars... and is even being compared to incredible places like Bibo's and The Hub.  YUCK!  Overall, I can honestly say this was probably the worst experience I've ever had at a coffee shop.... and I drink A LOT of coffee.  Both in taste and customer service.  This place would be a great place to put on Restaurant Impossible- where that guy comes in and changes everything!
My husband and I enjoy going to local coffee shops in the mornings and reading and hanging out, and we'd never been to Hi Point, so we went this morning we decided to try it out, mostly because we had a Groupon and its right near our house, and man was I disappointed.
We came in, and the guy (who I found out is one of the owners!) just stared at us, didn't say good morning, just stared.  So we took a couple minutes and looked at the chalkboard of typical drinks behind the bar, and the whole time, he's not greeting us, or asking questions or anything?  So I say, "We've never been in before, and we wanted to check it out this morning."  He rudely replies, "Oh, great, what do you want to drink."   And it wasn't like there was a big line, there were like 4 people in the whole place and no one in line. You'd think if someone had NEVER been in your place before and you clearly weren't busy with other customers, you'd take some time and welcome new customers and acclimate them to your establishment.  Maybe give them some suggestions, or recommendations?  No he just stood there staring.
So I decided on a standard vanilla latte.  And when I asked if they had to-go cups or if they had mugs to drink here, he was like, "Yes we have both," (like he was shocked that I even asked) so I said I'd like it for here and then I saw him pull out a pint glass.... Ok, if you're going to own a place with COFFEE In the title... BUY SOME COFFEE MUGS!!!!!  I understand using pint glasses for iced drinks or toward the end of a busy day, when all your mugs need to be washed, but it was 6:30am.... at a coffee shop and they didn't have any coffee mugs?
Anyways, I decided to request it be put in a to-go cup, because I'm not a huge fan of drinking hot coffee out of a pint glass.  At this point he hasn't even acknowledged my husband or what he would like to drink. So he finished my latte and proceeds to ring me up separately, not even asking if my husband who I clearly came in with wants anything, or if we'd like anything to eat? So my husband also chimes that he'd also like a vanilla latte to go, and the guys was like, Oh, and proceeded to make my husbands drink too.   ?
And as he's doing that, I ask what something was in the glass pastry case.  I said, what is that ball looking thing with all the sesame seeds on it.  So he sets the milk down that's steaming and walks to the case, looks in, walks back to the milk and say, "Those are bagels!"  Like I was an idiot for even asking!  But it wasn't like they had holes in the middle, or even looked like bagels, they looked like a mound of dough with seasame seeds on it?  So he finished my husbands drink, and started to ring us up again. He didn't say, would you like that bagel or something else to eat?  So I went ahead and requested the bagel anyways, we had a $10 Groupon, so I figured we utilize all of it.
Then we go and sit down and that's when I realize how ridiculous the decor is.  I appreciate eclectic, but this was just messy.  I really enjoy those places that have mis-matched antique tables and chairs when they're done correctly.  All vintage, or all modern... this was just a hodge-podge of things they probably found at garage sales, some new some old, some matching some didn't.  There was just no rhyme or reason to why they decorated the way they did.  There were chairs turned upside down under the bar, which I presume is extra storage?  It just looked bad and the floor (although probably just old) look disgustingly dirty.
All of that aside, if the coffee would have been great, everything could have probably been overlooked- but the coffee and food were just as bad as the service!
The coffee was stale tasting, there was zero vanilla flavor, and the OWNER clearly has no idea how to steam milk properly.  When you make a latte, you add the espresso to the cup first and then lay the milk in nicely... he did it backward.   Then the bagel that was toasted on a paninni grill, was hard, resembled and tasted like a firm hamburger bun and it was burned on one whole half of it.
When we left, no one was even at the counter to say good bye or check and see how things were.
Like I said at the beginning, this was the worst coffee experience I've had in a LONG time.  If you're going to spend good money on a latte DON'T go to this place.  Go to The Hub or Bibo's, (they're worth the drive to the center of town) or even Starbucks across the street is better than this! I usually enjoy supporting locals, but unfortunately, this is not a place I will support.

This place sucks! The service was no where to be found! Despite the cute lil drink names the coffee was bitter and cold (not ordered that way) cinnamon roll was like eating a sugar cube and $2.15 for a can of soda water! My suggestion is not to waste your time and money by going here I even had a groupon and she told me it wasn't good until the next day and then had enough nerve to tell me I just take them I don't know how they work! Get a clue girls this place sucks

Enjoyed the coffee and friendly service. Kind of funky, in a Burning Man kind of way. They have music nights, but haven't been able to attend yet.

Had coffee there this morning for the first time in a long time. I like what they have done remodeling the place. A good alternative to Starbucks - good coffee without fighting the crowds. You can actually have a conversation in here.

I used to love this place, but I got rotten service there today. It's never been a fast place to get a latte, but today two regular customers behind me were serviced both food and drink before my latte which I had ordered and paid for was started. I will never return.

We stopped in after finding this place on Urban Spoon. Not too many reviews but the website intrigued me. The food and the hospitality were amazing!! Great selection, homemade baked goods, above average coffee. Also, reasonable prices. I wish I lived in Reno so I could support this wonderful gem of a place.

I got the ricotta stuffed cinnamon french toast for breakfast.   If you're looking for something to settle your sweet tooth and hearty appetite, order this.  The service is friendly, efficient, and honest. The food was going to take longer than usual, and they let us know instead of letting us assume. At least the chalk table was plenty entertaining while we waited.

This place is a nice place to get a cup of coffee in North West Reno. I am an avide coffee consumer and I found this place to be a nice change from Starbucks. The atmosphere is comfortable and there isn't a ridicules amount of people swarming you to get coffee when its

The prices are fair and cheaper then starbucks.

I only drank decaf, but four stars for the coffee, maybe 4.5 stars. Possibly the best decaf in Reno.
The service at Hi Point is also good.
The food showed some excellence but was mostly just okay. I ordered the brunch and also ordered a chocolate chip muffin because I was hungry.
The muffin was a little dry. The crepe that came with brunch also didn't taste freshly made. The fruit with the crepe was fresh and delicious.
So it's looking baked goods aren't a strength here. But when the main course on the brunch came, the crust on the quiche was fantastic. Tasted absolutely fresh. Flakey and moist. So whoever baked the quiche knew what they were doing. The potatoes were okay. I didn't like the turkey sausage. Probably too healthy. I'm guessing the fat is one of the key ingredients that makes pork sausage taste good. The turkey sausage tasted too much like fried sawdust.
The place has a nice vibe too it. I liked the atmosphere and I think some would love it.
This is on Robb Drive just south of Mae Anne Avenue across Robb Drive from the Raley's.

I love this place!! It's such a relaxing, yet fun and comfy place. The workers are all really nice, and if you go in more than twice, they'll remember you and what you like :) There's a comfy couch to sit on, some vintage tables and chairs, and my personal favorite, chalkboard tables with cups of chalk so you can scribble or draw if you feel like it. There are so many choices of things to drink, and although I haven't even gone through a quarter of them, the ones I have tried are always delicious and perfectly prepared. They have free wifi, and although I haven't tried their food yet, it always smells so yummy. When I go into Hi Point, I feel like I'm walking into home. They don't get mad if you stay for hours and hours (as I've done before). It's just a cool place to kick back, relax, and have some coffee.

My husband went by here today for lunch. It did not seem like they cleaned the tables or the floors even though there were not any customers in line ordering stuff. The floor looked very dusty and our table was not clean.

For lunch my husband got a pizza, which was OK. I got a lunch combo and had an apple walnut salad, turkey sandwich, and tomato soup. I really enjoyed the salad, the soup was pretty good, and the sandwich was decent.

Would probably not go again though since there is no "guy food" on the menu for my husband to eat, plus the issue of not seeming very cleanly. Did not try the coffee drinks, so I do not know how those are.

this place was absolutely fabulous.  the wife and i stopped in here after our weekend away in reno and were quite pleasantly surprised.  upon walking in the door i thought we would be ordering pastries and grabbing drinks to go.  oh no, this is a proper cafe with an awesome sunday brunch.  we had quiche, a corn salad and they even substituted out the meat for a cup of fruit.  so much food that we had to take our rice pudding to go.  we ate one of these amazing gems in the car on our drive back but still have another to enjoy tonight.

thank goodness there was a wait for ihop because hi point cafe was the best food we had all weekend.  keep up the good work and we will make it a point to stop again if we return to reno.
