I have eaten at the Hills Bar and Grill since it opened.  I have always had pretty good service and pretty good food.  I took my kids last night for KIDS night - they have $2 kids meals- So I figure I might as well and save a few dollars.  Food was fine.  My children ordered drinks and then asked for refills before their food came.

I have a copy of the children's menu and nowhere on the menu does it list drinks or drink prices or state that the drink is not included in the kids meal like all other restaurants.  I get my bill and I found out that I have paid $12 for my children's drinks!  I ask my waiter about that and he states that his manager "is a stickler" for that!  I used to waitress for years, so I know the business.  The waiter could have let us know that it wasn't free refills like all other restaurants.  $3 a drink for a kid is very expensive $12 for their drinks is even worse!

I know the Hills is trying to make up the money they offer from the $2 kids meal night.  I could have had 2 alcoholic drinks for that price and I wanted to after I saw the bill.

I am a Hills Reward Member and after that experience I will NEVER come back!  For families that are trying to save money and go out expecting they will be able to do something special with the kids and not spend a lot of money.... This is not the place. Go to a different restaurant that will have a much better and more fun for the kids!

I enjoy the Hills. I live the atmosphere and you can't beat the half off bottles of wine on Tuesday nights. Their food is above average. My only complaint is that I do not enjoy the hills on weekend nights when they have live music. The very tall unfinished ceilings make it impossible to hear anything and the acoustics of the room do not do the band any favors when it comes to sound. I will continue to go back for my weekday girl nights for wine a yummy appetizers.

A new friend wanted to take me out for lunch & this is his regular spot.

Loved the  building layout & interior, it is  a cool place with a sweet vibe.

Although  I did not ever catch our servers name, she was always there & ready with a refill  &  a constant smile.

My pal highly recommended the  Highlander
Wild mushrooms, apple wood bacon, American and Swiss cheese.
And it came with a side of fries, that were cooked  perfectly      $12.00

The burger  arrived fairly soon after ordering it, and it was very VERY Moist, tender & loaded with flavor, and the bun  was unique, had  flavor & a light crunch .

I must  give a positive shout out to the fresh brewed iced tea. as some places it is just NOT good, but here it was perfect lemony blend, with plenty of refills & a go cup for my departure.

I can honestly say , I do not understand why it does not get barely any YELP LOVE ?

I just  now saw as I was posting this, that they have a rewards program, which i did not know about that day..but will join when I return

Service from the bartender, Sydney was horrible! We had to wave her over to get another drink, while she was on her phone. When we moved to a table, the service only got slightly better from, tara(sarah?) she was abrasive and rude. The food was awful, when we sent it back, it came out. . . alright!?! We asked to see a manager, john, he was apparently the owner. He was indifferent on our frustration. We will not be returning, and you shouldnt either

What a dissatisfying experience. The food was horrible. I asked for blackened salmon, but it was very bland.  I can't recall eating salmon that bad. I should of called authorities to report theft. I was robbed for $70. Never Again!!!!

Been here a number of times, and it seems like the quality is going down, while the prices are going up.   Very expensive for average food and average service.

The name says it all it's a BAR and then a grill in that order.  If you're going to go their for the food you may not be impressed.  A ok place to set on the patio for a couple of drinks and some light fare.  But it just bar food.

The best thing going for this place is the location, surrounded by potential customers, but, it lacks in all other areas.  I've been there several times and have always had a mediocre experience.  The good thing is you can almost always go in and sit down without a wait.
It's never terrible but it's never great either.  I really want to give them a 2.5 but the fact that they haven't improved at all led me to a 2.

Wish I would have read the reviews before I went but, I was with a friend who had been there before and said it was good. She changed her mind yesterday. The service is horrible! After about 15 minutes when I asked my friends if they wanted to leave (loud enough for the man in the yellow shirt to hear me----think he was the manager), he sent a young man over who had walked out, looked at our table and turned around and walked away 15 minutes earlier. I think they think women of a certain age don't tip. Fooled you! We were very good waitresses for many years. Food is overpriced and not very good. Sides that are all the same price are $1.99 extra if you would rather have one of them instead of fries. Even though fries cost the same. Usually give a place 2 tries but, won't go back.

The service is great, the food is sub-par to terrible (although I'll admit the nachos are decent and were very hot). I had the beef kabob special that appeared to have been marinated in cheap Italian salad dressing. They came with soggy vegetables and a small bread stick.  I'm not usually picky, but it was gross and the presentation was completely unappetizing.
Other members of my party had burgers- which they said were fine, reuben sandwiches- ok, and the whitefish- my mom was not a fan at all.

Tried this place for breakfast on the recommendation of a friend who described the breakfast menu as "different" Well, as it turns out, this friend doesn't get out for breakfast very often. The place itself is very nice; cozy atmosphere, slightly more upscale than your average coney island. During lunch and dinner it is more of a sports bar. The menu is fairly standard breakfast fare, omelette's pancakes, daily eggs and meat special. They do have creme brule and banana's foster french toast. I had the Athena omelette. The feta cheese was melted on the top, not blended within. The tomato's and spinich were mixed in, but the egg dish itself was flat, more like scrambled eggs without the scramble. They serve marble toast, a nice change of pace from wheat or white. Our waitress, Ashley, was nice, friendly and attentive, but not overly so. The coffee stinks. There is no polite was to put it. It's weak, and watered down. I craved the Starbucks right in the parking lot within our view. With gratituty our bill was $23. Definitely not worth it. Comparitively speaking, I would rate this place well below Downtown Cafe (our first choice, but closed due a water main break), The Pantry, and of course, The Original Pancake House.

first, there is no reason this place should be so bad. it sits on a nice piece of property in a nice area and has outfdoor seating. so far so good.
we were there a year ago and didn't hink much of it but thaought we would give it another chance. we wish we didnt.
the waiter lost our drink order, so it took about 20 minutes for any beverage to come. he then took our dinner order with an appetizer. the appetizer hdnt come after about 20 minutes, so we hailed him down and asked about it and he looked like he forgot aobut it too. he came back and said it was almost done and so was the dinner. we told him to forget about the appetizer--the moment was over.
then the dinner came, served by another waitress who had no clue who had what and set everything down wrong. no excuse for this--i used to work in a restauarnt and know how easy it is to train any waiter to know what goes where.
then the worst part--the food. i ordered a cedar planked broiled whitefish. the whitefish was not broiled and not cedar planked. it looked and tasted like it was steamed in a microwave. the fruit cocktail that was a side order had only two fruit--pineapple and grapes. my wife ordered ribs--they taseted old and were tough, and she barely could eat one. the baked beans tasted like artificial smoke was added, and way too much. we left 3/4 of our meals uneaten they were so unappetizing. our waiter never even bothered to come back and check, so we just sat there for about 20 more minutes staring at our unedible food on plates and just wanting to get out of there so we could go sometwhere else for dinner. some manager came over, to see what was wrong and apologized, but we told him there was no need to discuss it (we didnt need the aggravation becasue the mgt must know how bad the food and service is to allow this and just dont care). we will never be back. run. dont walk away from this place.

This place defines average. Average food, average beer selection, average service, average atmosphere. I was recently here for the third time, and will probably not be back. Why? There is nothing here that I couldn't get better at a dozen other places around town. Monday's are half off pizza day. I got a large barbeque chicken and took the rest home for dinner. It was just ok. The bar scene here at night isn't my crowd and it is way too loud to get a word in with my friends. I wish there was something I liked here.

Somehow The Hills has convinced the people that care about being seen that this is a place to be seen.  You can even upload your photo to a TV there so that you can have even more people see you!  Woo hoo!  Perhaps you can hold up a bottle of their overpriced wine in the picture so everyone can see you drop some coin.  (Or whatever the hip saying is.  Or cool.  Or whatever the hip term for cool is now.)

I go to a restaurant to eat good food at a good price served by a good staff.  If I wanted to ooh and aah over the "beautiful people", I could think of another spot with overpriced drinks that I don't bother going to either.

We tried dinner there a couple of years ago and weren't impressed so didn't bother going back for that.  But the wife and I decided we wanted a nice brunch and decided to see why some people raved about it.  "I got a picture with a mouthful of creme brulee french toast on their TV!!!11!"

The service was pretty decent even though the grammatically-challenged waitress doesn't know the word "you".  "How are we doing?" "Are we ready to order?"  Why do they never ask "Are we ready to pay?"  I would love to split the check with them!  However, she was nice, prompt, and attentive enough.  At least she suggested I would need a glass of water along with my orange juice!

The creme brulee french toast was OK.  After reading people rave about it, I figured joining these two favorites must be spectacular!  It wasn't.  Three pieces of french toast with a squirt of creme brulee in between each layer and some crystallized creme brulee on top for $8.50.  No sides. Not worth it.  My wife didn't find her candied walnut waffle anything to get again either.

But $3 for orange juice?  It better be some great OJ or a good-sized glass!  No wonder they don't list the price on their menu!  It wasn't orange-colored water that some restaurants serve, but don't expect the nectar of the gods.  Probably 6 oz, which is a shot glass of orange juice for me.  Average juice, small glass, and a high price.

So if you want to pay for the privilege of having your pretentious visage grace their establishment's HDTV, enjoy dining at The Hills.  And I'll go where I can eat good food at a good price served by a good staff.

P.S. Went back there for a fundraiser.  Split the steak fajitas with my wife.  As she left, she said "My steak fajitas are better."  I sooo agree!

Ordered the prime rib, it was good, but all the food on the plate was cold. I tired eating it, but finally asked them to warm it up. I got a smaller plate with less food and the second steak was dry. I just wanted it warmed up. Very disappointed, the Hills is usually good.

There beer selection is very good, always have a few Michigan beers on tap, that can make up for some of the other issues.

This review is based on several visits to watch sporting events with fiends.  Each time we've sat upstairs (small area with about 5 tables and a bar).

Drinks and food are moderately priced for the area.  They do however have a nice beer selection and usually a beer special or two.

Pizza and nachos are both quite good. Personally haven't had anything else on the menu but I've never been here with someone who's been disappointed.

Can be loud but is definitely a nicer place to watch a game than your "average" bar.

*Can definitely be a wait on the weekends, especially with a big game on, so be prepared.

    Cheers!

4 stars for the breakfast service
4 stars for the luch and dinner food
1 star for the night life service and drinks!

I ahve been there many of times and never seem to get good service while just getting drinks! some waitresses are VERY snobby and the past three times they have over charged me! I dont understand how they can always make this mistake!

I dont plan on going again for a bar scene... ill go some where else!

I'm writing this as I'm sitting in this restaurant, waiting for a water I asked for 20 minutes ago. So far they've blown off our reservation, made us walk all over the restaurant, and seated us directly in front of the blazing-hot fireplace. It's impossible to flag down a waitress. They've gotten two orders wrong. We've waited half an hour for napkins and silverware. The fries we finally got were soggy and lukewarm, after not being able to order forever. Specials advertised at the table are only available for carry-out. Place is stuffed to the gills with yuppies. Not hanging around long enough to see what else can go wrong.

Have been here a few times. We sat at the bar two times recently and the service is TERRIBLE, you literally have to flag someone down to get another beer, order food or get some water. The place wasn't busy either time which makes it even more frustrating. Nothing redeeming about this place (food only so so)  to make any of us want to come back.

I hadn't been in town for awhile and was excited to try a newer restaurant.  At first glance I thought it was a more upscale place due to the decor and everyone seemed to be dressed nicely, but then I saw the TV screens playing sports and the menu and realized, no it wasn't.  The menu was vast and I had trouble deciding what I wanted, I ended up with an Asian chicken roll up that was very good.  The service, however, wasn't that great.  I felt like the server could care less about us and the food came out a bit slow.

Father's Day 2011 around 12:20pm. 5 of us for brunch, 1st time at this establishment. After waiting some time, waitress finally arrives. We pleasantly ask her how she's doing. She proceeds to tell us she is very unhappy because they are understaffed. She informs us that whatever we order, we can expect a 30 minute or more wait. We figure we can survive that and we did not want to leave and look for another place. My husband looking forward to a nice big breakfast would like pork chops with his breakfast. He asks how many are served with the meal. Answer: 2. He asks what it would cost to order an extra one. Answer: You would have to pay the full price for an additional meal. He settles on ordering an omlette with ham. When it arrives, there is no ham. When he brings it to the waitress' attention instead of apologizing and attempting to make it right, she says he didn't ask for ham. Everyone heard him order it, she did not write it down. I ordered the Eggs Benedict Florentine. When it arrives there is really no spinach to speak of on the plate and the English Muffin is soaked in butter. When I bring it to her attention, she says she will send it back. I tell her I do not wish to wait for 30 minutes and will just eat it as is, if there is a long wait. She is very sarcastic and says: "No, you will not have to wait 30 minutes." When she returns with my order it is now cold with a few very, very tiny spinach leafs laid atop my poached eggs. Not enjoyable. My daughter ordered stuffed French Toast which was not really stuffed at all. It was big thick pieces of bread with a very small bit of blueberries laid on top of and in between the bread. She had to ask for syrup which entailed more waiting. During our stay, we did notice that the waitress was very frustrated and near tears and I did feel sorry for her. However, she started our Father's Day meal on a negative note. She could have stated that they were understaffed, but she was going to do her best to make sure we had a great meal. She could have asked the manager what could be done to secure an extra pork chop without a full meal charge. She could have offered a reduction on the price of the bill with some of the mishaps. She also could have been a bit more amiable. What the kitchen was doing probably needs to be addressed. How management staffs on a major holiday probably needs to be addressed. But the waitress is who we interacted with and she could have contributed to a much better time for us. Folks in our family are very big tippers, usually 20% or more. While in the restroom, my daughter paid the bill with the customary 15%. I would have probably given 10-12%. In any case, 5 folks who eat out often and could have chosen anywhere to go, chose this place. We all agreed it was terrible and we will all tell other folks it was terrible, too.

Been to the Hills a few times now. It's a lively place for sure. The bar area is fun with a lot of TVs for game watching. The menu is full of variety and the food is good. It's a big place but it draws a good crowd. Eating at a high top in the bar area is a fun alternative.

Not bad!  A fun place for St. Patrick's Day.

Getting to the bar at 8:00 a.m. is not what I usually do, but when my friends told me to meet them up at the Hills, I was looking forward to it.  A majority of my friends talk about it all the time, yet I had never been there so I didn't know what to expect.  For some reason, I always pictured a small, cramped, hole in the wall type of bar.  Instead, it was a HUGE (high ceilings!) place and kind of upscale.  It was indeed cramped, but I'm betting St. Paddy's Day had something to do with it, so I'm not going to hold it against them.

The servers are friendly enough to be in your group of friends, the bartenders made drinks amazingly fast, and the night was capped off by Curious George.  Yes, I was drunk, but I promise you that Curious George was walking around the bar at one point.

We went back and forth between the Hills and another bar called Penny Black, a trolley was conveniently shuttling drinkers, which was adventurous yet responsible.  I can't remember much from 9:00-5:00, which is understandable considering I had countless green beers, but my pictures indicate that I had a fantastic time.

Spending 15 hours at a bar sounds like a nightmare, but I'd do it all over again if I had to!

If you're looking for a great meal, great drinks, and good conversation, you might want to look elsewhere.

This isn't to say the place is a total dud, but certainly isn't the kind of spot I would advise anybody go if they want dinner...and to be able to hear themselves think, especially once it gets more into bar mode.  The food is passable, perhaps better than you would expect for a bar, but there are better restaurants within a 5 minute drive.

Drink selection and wait staff are quite possibly the biggest things the bar has going for it.  The waitresses are generally very friendly and attentive, so you rarely feel ignored, or have an empty glass for too long.  I love supporting and recommending businesses owned by personable and friendly locals, but in this instance I'll just say it is owned by locals and leave it at that.

Prices are reasonable for what you get, but the problems for me have to do with the nighttime atmosphere.  It is definitely geared towards a youthful crowd, and being under 30 I would not mind that, other than for the extremely loud music and overcrowding.  Going with a group of friends ends up turning into something of a shouting match to talk with anybody further away than the chair next to you.

If you're looking for the closest thing to a club-like atmosphere in Rochester without paying a cover, go to the Hills, but for my money, there are better bars in the area to spend your time in.

This place was pretty decent. Imagine that a sports bar mated with a chain martini bar, and THEN with a diner, and you can probably picture it. Massive TVs, a lofty bar, lots of tables filled with mid-late 20-somethings in semi-nice attire, and a huuuuge menu with pretty much every different cuisine under the sun.

However, something about it doesn't seem that imaginative. The servers were boring despite being fairly attentive. We had this deliciously evil pizza-bread thing as an appetizer (sort of like cheesy bread, but you can pretty much order any type of toppings you want. So it's LIKE pizza, but is just cut into strips and served with different dipping sauces). Definitely the highlight of the meal.

Four out of six members of our family ordered this southwestern chicken salad. It was gigantic and tasted good. Our only problem with this salad was possibly the biggest problem it COULD have, which is that the avocado slices were as hard as rubber. I cannot even believe that anybody in the kitchen even put them on. I mean, he or she had to cut them, and they would have known about the fact that they were severely underripe. So they either pretended that it didn't matter, or they pretended that they didn't know. When we all complained about it five minutes later, we were met with a rather surprised look from our server. He "checked back with the kitchen" and reported that they had simply run out of fresh avocados (awesome, and now they just wasted four that COULD have been ripe in a few days' time). He brought us guacamole as a substitute, but nothing really beats fresh, soft avocado on a salad. So, yeah.

Overall though, I wasn't too displeased. I kept half-expecting to see Lauren Conrad or Speidi come out of the back room and scare all of us, but I guess their Hills will remain in California.

This place is phenomenal!! They consistently have great food and  service. I go back with my family when I return to my hometown and we always get great service. It's speedy and they are very attentive. They constantly refill drinks and are checking in, but not to the point that it gets annoying. The food comes out hot and the fries are fresh if you get a burger or a sandwich. I have had a lot of their dishes and they are fabulous. I highly recommend this place for a beer at lunch or dinner. On a side note, they have a bunch of TV's all over in case you are looking for a place to check out the game. The only downside I'd say is that they have a band on some Saturday's that is incredibly loud.

I'm pretty sure this is a theme bar based off of the MTV show "The Hills" because everyone here look like they're trying to be self-involved fake celebrities.

Think of a nightclub. Like the most stereotypical gold-chain, Ed Hardy, fist pumping place you could. You've thought of The Hills. This place is located at Tienken and Rochester (which is apparently turning into Orange County North) and is pretty damn unbearable. The ambiance is somewhat nice, but when Lil Jon is pumping through the rafters, it takes away its charm.

Drinks are on the somewhat cheap for Rochester side, but nothing that blows you away. The food is fried. Just about all of it. Again, average, which adds nothing to the already below averageness of the bar. Service was good when I was there. My waitress had piercings and tattoos and genuinely seemed better than the place, and I agree with her.

There's a decent amount of seating, but this place is busy on the weekends, so finding a spot is sometimes difficult.

If you wanna wear some awful cologne and want to pretend to be Spencer Pratt, check this place out. Otherwise, go to a real bar.

I came here yesterday for the first time to meet up with some college friends.  I really liked the visual atmosphere of the place.  It was a really nice looking on the inside.  When I first got there I thought the place was great.  Then after you are there for a little bit you begin to change your mind.

I will admit I did not try the food.  I did order some drinks and they did make a really good amaretto sour.  I would have fully recommended this place as a place to go and catch up but the music was on the loud side.  I found this a little weird because, maybe at least when I was there, it was not as though there was an area where people were dancing.  I normally expect the obnoxiously loud music to be on when it's more of a club.  It was quite the downer to have blasting music in a place when you are trying to catch up with friends you haven't seen in over a year.

The other thing is because of the place having virtually no ventilation I thought I was going to suffocate to death on all the second-hand smoke.  I am glad to see Michigan following the route of cities like Chicago and NYC with their smoking laws.  I ended up only saying at The Hills for an hour because of my inability to breathe.  I would have liked to stay longer to get something to eat but the smell was nauseating.

I would say this place was only so-so.  I've definitely been to better bars.

We tried the Hills Bar and Grille for brunch, and we won't go back.  Even tho we had coupons to reduce the price, the food wasn't worth it.  It wasn't hot, and the selection was weak.   We sat outside, wanting to enjoy the beautiful day, but the smokers completely destroyed the air.  It was busy, with a rowdy crowd.

I don't understand how this place is consistently busy. Every time I have been here the service has left much to desire. The food isn't horrible but I wouldn't label is as good either. For the price I expected a lot more. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a decent meal.

I've been going here since the place opened in 2007, and the good atmosphere and drink specials keep me coming back.

The place is floor to ceiling windows, with table seating and bar-height tables.  There is a full length bar and plenty of TVs to catch the sports action.  There is also a second level for more bar seating.  They can really pack them in here.

Tuesdays is half-off bottles of wine, so that's usually my night.  The food is bar food, with pastas, pizzas, sandwiches and salads rounding out the menu.  They have a few signature dishes such as the Fry Brick, which is thin potatoes cooked into a loaf, smothered in cheddar cheese.  Sound sinful?  It is.
