Hobson's Choice

Let me just say that I personally know Prescilla B who commented below, and I know that girl is a real drinker! She has been to a lot of places and drank a lot of drinks, but her review is nothing like mine...

The punch is ALL I come here for. I only come during Happy Hour, and I get there right at 5PM. Matter of fact, I look forward to it all day. I break my normal plans just to do it. Okay, so I sound like an alcoholic, I'm not..anymore.. but I do appreciate rum, and I appreciate punch. I love sweet tropical drinks sure, but I love that these are just sweet enough, just powerful enough, and just "weak" (can I even use that word in the same sentence as powerful) enough to make you buy 2 or 3 or 5 even, and think, "Well, these are just dandy, like candy, pitter patter bandy..wait, I'm loaded..." and then go home a happy man. THAT is me!

Go upstairs, open the windows, let in some cool air, watch the sports on TV (I hate sports but its fun nonetheless) and relax. Enjoy your cool drink in a hurricane glass. If anyone else is around, say hello, make a friend... if you see me, talk to me, say hello, lets drink punch together and compare which ones have more booze.

The service staff are nice, and pretty quick. Very relaxed too, they are in no rush to get things done, they are just good at what they do to get it done quickly. Make sense? Never experienced that mean doorman people talk about, good thing too, cause Id instantly ask for the owner and let him know that his bar is a legend, and having one bad apple really can bring it all down and LET ME IN! I WANNA SPEND MY MONEY!.

While the place isnt updated, kinda raggedy and old, THIS is what OLD SF is about, this is what Haight is about, its a theme, and while everyone wishes for more, you go here for the drink and service, not the decor, even though I secretly like 70s furniture and shag carpet.

I enjoyed my punch bowl and the crowd was fun.  But the place is filthy and I think they get away with it cause it goes with the Haight-ness of it.  But the bathroom was not acceptable.  Bartender was really nice.

Great bar.  My boyfriend ordered their house punch and I had a Dark and Stormy. Both were fantastic.  Service was warm and friendly.  

We ordered burgers from across the street since the bar does not have their own food. They were crazy over sized but yummy.  The bar staff was extremely helpful and attentive without being obnoxious.
