I went here on a business lunch and the place is spacious. There were a good selection of beers on tap and the service was nice. The food was good but wasn't anything out of this world. It was just as I would expect based on the name. There are good sandwiches and some of the meals I've seen were typical. Nothing bad, but nothing that blew me out of my seat. They have outdoor seating, which is nice on summer evenings. But what's up with the dollar up-charge for french fries instead of chips?

Stopped in here last Friday night and was surprised to see plenty of open tables.  I figured out group of 4 might have to wait.

There was a beer on the beer menu that looked unusual and when I asked our server she couldn't describe it.  She even called over another coworker and he could only say that it was unlike any other beer.  Perplexed, I gave it a try.  It was a wheat beer/hefe with a little extra hop kick.  It really wasn't that hard to describe.

We started with some chips because we were starving.  Chips were good and we devoured them.

I got the Cowboy Burger.  This one seemed great in concept but was lacking in execution.  The onion straws were very crispy and were a tough thing to eat.  The chipotle ranch had a good kick too it.  The blue cheese just didn't work for me.  It was an odd flavor amongst everything else.  My buddies had the Hall of Fame burger and said it was great.  I wish I had gotten that.

Overall,  an "A-OK" experience.  I'm always looking for new places in Richmond so it might be a while before I get back to Home Team Grill.

Randomly decided to stop here with a friend while walking to Cary Town.

ATMOSPHERE:  Fun and sporty place.  I love that they open up the entire front of the restaurant (a common theme in Richmond).  A lot of seating and a lot of TVs.

SERVICE:  We sat at the bar and the bar tenders were really nice.

DRINKS:  Got vodka sodas - REALLY strong but that's exactly the way I need it.

FOOD:  I wasn't that hungry but my friend wanted to get a hummus plate.  It was a huge plate filled with lots of veggies and pita with a huge dollop of hummus.  The hummus was average and everything else was whatever.  It's like they just threw stuff on a plate without any thought or effort.

I'd recommend coming for cheap drinks...don't expect great food though.

Average bar food. Decent selection of beers. The real draw is the large indoor and outdoor spaces.  Gets pretty crowded on nice Sunday afternoons.

I come to Home Team Grill occasionally to watch college basketball. I recently went to Home Team Grill for a VCU basketball watch party. Home Team Grill is a great place to watch VCU basketball games (good atmosphere). I usually just get a drink and watch sports. I was hungry, so I decided to order a burger. I chose the Cowboy Burger (A-1 Sauce, bleu cheese crumbles, onion straws and chipotle ranch dressing). The burger came with a side of French fries. The burger was average at best. I was expecting more flavor from the burger. The onion straws on my burger were over cooked. The chipotle ranch dressing was good. During the VCU basketball game, mimosas were on special. I enjoyed my mimosas. My server was attentive. Arriving early is vital if you're coming to watch a VCU basketball game. The sports bar becomes filled very fast(booths fills up first). There's patio seating for customers. The parking can be a hassle because Home Team Grill is located on VCU campus (street parking). Home Team Grill is a good choice for drinks and watching sports. I give Home Team Grill a 3.5 rating.

I don't watch sports, so it never occurred to me to venture to Home Team Grill. My boyfriend, who recently started working here, encouraged me and some of my coworkers to attend the Tuesday burger night. We are frequenters of several other burger nights in Richmond, but we decided to give it a try - cautiously.

This is my favorite burger night in Richmond. Burgers on special all night, drink specials go till 7, and you don't just get an overcooked cookie-cutter burger. The burger is made to order, comes with fries, and is delicious! In fact, the Cowboy burger may be my favorite burger in Richmond.

My only complaint is that only domestics (i.e. macro brews) are on special during happy hour, but this prevents me from spending WAY too much money and defeating the purpose of cheap burgers.

Went up weekend before last to visit a friend.  Was interested in going somewhere on Saturday afternoon to watch the SEC Championship game.  This place was suggested to us by a couple of locals.   Being a 'sports bar' the food was on par with what I expected, nothing too crazy delicious but good (did the major league nachos and a nice little caesar salad).  They had buckets of beer which are nice with a crowd.  Our waitress suggested the upgrade to the eighteen ounce bottles.  For two bucks that is a legit value.   It was a mild sunny Saturday.  So it was nice to have the patio doors opened up.  My kind of December weather.    We had friendly and pretty quick service even with the congestion.  My company thoroughly enjoyed herself so that was a good thing.

All in all, a nice chill spot.  A place I hope to visit again.

Good sports bar with a nice theme and lots of tvs and draft. Only went for a drink and grabbed some of the homemade chips basket. Quite tasty.

Hometeam grill is awesome.  From the quality of their products to their service, every aspect of their establishment is amazing.

Even on a Friday night, where there is a band playing and the place is packed to the brim, the servers stand tall and work their tales off to provide a great dining experince for us customers.

Myself, my wife, and 4 friends went to HOmeteam Grill on Friday, Sept 7 after a HORRIFIC expericene at Peacoks Pantry.

Our server was Lara and she was amazing..2 of us got wings.  we asked for extra napkinds and a a few extra glasses of water.  Lara went out of her way to make sure we have more than enoguh napkin.

I highly recommend this place for dinner or even just a casual even.

Best place to watch a big game in Richmond.  It's gets very packed when its any game related to Richmond or VA.  Awesome when it's nice out.  Food is decent.  I go to drink and watch sports.

I can't decide if I should give Home Team 3 or 4 stars...

Lets be honest, I don't go there for the food.  And it's also not your typical Richmond bar.  People it's centered around sports, so get off your high horses.

I go because I'm recognized as the bowling alley chick by the bartenders, they know my beer of choice, and I can get any Colorado team game on without a hassle or strange look.

I also go because it's airy and I love the patio (hello my dog is actually allowed to go somewhere with me.)

Reminds me of my favorite sports bar back home.

Do you come here for the food? No. You come here for the social scene and the atmosphere... or after kickball. Thanks to River City Sports & Social Club, Home Team has turned into a social Mecca for young professionals after weekly athletic games. This is the reason I was there this evening. Sports bars aren't typically my go-to venues, but if the sports bar's where the party's at then you can count me in.

Home Team certainly fits the bill for an ideal sports bar that's spacious, clean, and has outdoor seating. Yes, I said outdoor seating. Hollerrrr. That's if you can get a table, of course. Tonight it was packed, but we just patiently waited for a small table to open and sipped on some brews while we chatted. Once the table cleared, the staff was super helpful and brought us extra chairs since we had 6 in our group.

It does feel a bit sterile, but it's a sports bar so what do you expect? If you're looking for standard bar food and a cold beer, then they've got you covered. They actually have a pretty good chipotle ranch salad dressing, too, if you're in the mood for some greens.

For all you animal lovers out there, they allow pups on their patio, as long as they aren't disturbing other patrons. I don't have a dog myself, but I watched a super cute one chillin' a few feet away from me this evening. One of the waitresses even brought him some water. Two thumbs up in my book.

Horrible food even though my expectations were low for a sports bar. Ordered a burger that was tasteless and dry. Asked for medium rare...got beef jerky instead. The only good thing was the side of fries that came with it. Service was fine though.

Great place to watch a game. Lots of TVs and there's not a bad seat in the house to view the big game. Good beer selection and bartenders are very attentive. Every time I sit at the bar, my glass is seldom empty. Food is pretty good too, basic pub grub.

Food was really good (Salmon omelette, breakfast burrito, pancakes) . Fairly long wait after we ordered - 45 minutes. But overall the server was very attentive.

This review is only for the burgers.  I can't speak for anything else on the menu but I can say that boy oh boy I love their burgers and on Tuesdays they offer half priced burgers.  They're so friggin' delicious!  I think restaurants are finally moving away from serving frozen burgers and the ones that aren't , need to jump on this ship.

My favorite burger is the Hall of Fame burger which is a 1/2 pound burger with a fried egg, cheese and bacon....it's so good my mouth is watering and I wouldn't be opposed to eating one of those delicious burgers for breakfast. right. now.

The bf always orders the cowboy burger which is topped with blue cheese, onion straws, A-1 sauce and this tasty chipotle ranch dressing...if you order it, order extra dressing because the fries are a perfect vessel for that ranch to your mouth!

Similar happy hours to other fan area bars...I think the food overall is better here but I think it's pretty typical of what you find in this area with a little bit of flair.

Take care & savor it up!

HTG has a tv lineup and a decent beer selection.  The food is mediocre if you are lucky, worse if you aren't.  The produce and sides (salads, sandwich fixings) might be appreciated after several beers. I've always had good service but can't get past the food.  On the upside, the taps are well chilled and the Hummus is fine.

this is a sports bar, expectations should be set accordingly.  There is nothing special or unique about the food.  Service is spotty, as it depends on which part-time waiter is covering your table.  Looking for a place to have a beer and watch the game?  Come on in.  Looking for a quiet dinner, a unique culinary experience, a nice evening out?  Go across the street to six burner.

I don't even want to give Hometeam 1 star....especially after being called a "raging bitch" by the manager.  The service is horrible, the management is even worse.  Good for them for having 1/2 off burger night, it's the only way they can get people in the establishment - Mind you this is the one downtown, the one in the West End has more class!

This has the feel of a chain, but it's locally owned (a small chain). Good sports bar. Good food, not great. AVOID pizzas. The steak sliders are excellent but have gone up and down as far as the size of the meat slices; last time we had them, the slices were a good size, but at times they have been so tiny the cooks should have been embarrassed. Many, many, many TVs, including two giant ones over the bar. I'm told that if your team's banner is not on the wall, bring it in and the owner will have it hung. Service can be spotty.

Very plain atmosphere, small TVs, and a less than stellar management team. If you want real Richmond go elsewhere, if you want a chain restaurant go to BW3s down the block. I highly recommend going elsewhere.

Tuesday night = 1/2 off burgers! The garden burger is awesome, & that's coming from someone who isn't vegetarian. I never thought sour cream on a burger would be sooo good. Great place to watch any game.

Was here to watch some March Madness. The bar had great support for their VA teams.  George Mason's game was on at the time and everyone was cheering and having a good time.  It was pretty packed and they had good beer specials for happy hour it was a little difficult to get the servers attention since the games were on but that was to be expected.  But it was the first time I have every witnessed a drunk person vomit on another customer at a table and then run out.  It was pretty shocking!  I was sooooo glad it wasn't on me but I felt terrible for the customer she just got up and left.  Didn't try the food because my stomach was turning after what I saw.

This is one of the best sports bars in Richmond. I love this place on an NFL Sunday!

It definitely has the coolest atmosphere of any sports bar in Richmond, as it's set in an old trolley workshop.

The food is better than average bar food, especially the burgers- The Hall of Fame burger (egg on top) is VERY good.

The servers and bartenders are always friendly, and I always have a great time.

It was voted Best Sports Bar in Richmond by Richmond Magazine and Top 100 Sports Bars in the USA by CNN.

I take back anything good I said about good service at the Home Team Grill in my previous review.

The bf went there last night to watch Monday night football, and service was atrocious. The place was shockingly not busy. In the past when I've gone there to watch Steelers games, there's always been several groups of Steelers fans and a lively atmosphere. On this night, the bar was about half full, and there were about 4 tables besides us in the entire restaurant.

We chose to sit at a table even though we only wanted drinks for a better view of the TV. Our server came by and got our first drink order. Fine. We watched the game, drank our beers and wanted to order more. We waited. And waited. Our waitress didn't return. The bus boy came by and took our empty beer bottles but didn't ask if we wanted more or if he could get our server. We watched our server have a 10-minute conversation with a friend. Finally, she wandered over and asked if we wanted more drinks. No apology. She didn't even seem to find it odd that we were sitting there with bev naps and no drinks.

Okay, we thought, she was talking to a friend, we'll give her some slack. We drank these beers and wanted to order more. Again we waited. And waited. This time we could see our waitress in the kitchen reading something (studying for a test??) and she didn't look our way once. After about 15 minutes with empty bottles we asked another server to send her over.

Again, she came by, no apology, no nothing and asked if we wanted more drinks. By this time, we were so annoyed we just decided to leave. We were planning to stay for the entire game, but left plenty before the end of the first half after this extreme crappy service.

The worst part was the lack of acknowledgement that she had been totally ignoring us, and the restaurant wasn't even busy!! To be a good server at a sports bar, pretty much all you need to do is get people beers when they start to get empty. She couldn't even get this down.

I've never had such bad service here before, and I guess my words of advice are, if you go into Home Team and it's not busy enough to keep the servers on their toes go elsewhere or you'll get ignored all night.

Like the others have said, this is your typical sports bar place.  The food has always been on par with what I expected, nothing to crazy but always good.  They have the buckets of beer which are nice with a crowd and they have all the games on all over the place.  I've always had friendly and pretty quick service even when they've been packed.  The patio is really nice for sitting out on one of the warmer evenings.

All in all, a nice chill spot.

Holy crap they had it together today for the USA/Ghana match.  Yes, the food is still the same old bar food but I could not believe the level of customer service we had.  I came here with a group of people because Gus's was slammed 2 hours before the game and everyone was losing their cool.  The staff at Home Team was dealing with the same level of crowd but much more efficiently.  Although a prime table wasn't originally available, the manager swooped in and rearranged the seating area to accomodate us as well as a few other parties in the same situation.  There were absolutely no problems getting beer considering the amount of 8-tops that our server was dealing with, our food even came out quickly.  The only time there were lines for the bathroom were intermissions.  I really can't say anything more.  If I decide to go out for next year's Super Bowl I'll be here, this crew handled a crowd exceptionally.

I usually have lunch here since it's across the street from where I work whenever I'm in Richmond. The food and atmosphere is good enough, but the service time is questionable. I would imagine that people who go to lunch here are on a schedule and each time my co-worker and I went they took painfully long with the food and the bill. Maybe it's just known with the locals but we usually spend 75% waiting and 25% eating. I've tried their shrimp with baguette and their cobb salad. Both were pretty good and satisfactory for a lunch but didn't blow me away. It is quite convenient so I will probably go back here again unless I find somewhere else that's close by.

The hubbie and I decided to try this place after going to Rostov's next door.  I had the spicy chicken wrap and he had a steak.  The server was quiet, but efficient.  The atmosphere was nice, this is the only real sports bar I have encountered in Richmond so far.  The food was good and the prices very reasonable.  We'll be visiting again.

I went to this restaurant about 3 months after they opened with the critic from the Times Dispatch as well as 2 others.  The only happy person at the end of the night was the girl that ordered chicken fingers.  I ordered a Reuben that was edible at best.  The shrimp for the appetizer was decent but not great.  The ribs were decent but overcooked and not as tender as they could have been.

As for beverages we were extremely disappointed.  I asked our server what the drafts were and her response was "I don't know".  Right in front of her I stood up and walked to the bar, then came back and recited the list to the other avid beer drinker at the table.

Worst of all though the view from our table was directly into one of the women's' room stalls.  I literally could see the handle to flush... not appropriate for eating.

Points deducted for only playing baseball games on the many TVs, it would have been nice to have looked over and seen at least 1 other sport.

The Home Team Grill is a sports bar, and it does pretty well for what it is. Oddly enough theres no category for sports bars on Yelp, which is strange but maybe they don't have sports in San Francisco, where Yelp originated. Things are so crazy out in California, you know?

As I was saying, if you go to the Home Team Grill to watch sports, you won't be disappointed. Whats really nice is that if you reserve a table ahead of time, they'll seat you and tell you which TVs will be showing which games you're interested in, and I imagine if you have a decent sided group of people you could even get them to swap to whatever game you're after. Reportedly they have one of those crazy cable packages with like every game ever, and so its not a bad idea if you're looking for something a bit more obscure, though you obviously won't have much luck if you're going at a time when something else immensely popular is on.

As for the food, it seemed pretty average to me, not bad by any stretch but hardly a revolution in sports bar food. I got a turkey reuben, which was a little weird coming with turkey meat and cole slaw, instead of some type of beef and sauerkraut. But I guess thats just my personal preferences in Reubens talking. They have some good beers on tap, and some not so good beers on tap, but the variety is enough to where you should find something acceptable, though nothing you haven't had before.

They also do a bunch of specials which can be pretty good, on the night I was there (Wednesday, for future reference) there was a deal where you got a basket of wings and a bucket of 5 beers for $15, which isn't bad. Though, the normal basket of wings is like $6, and the normal bucket of beers is like $10, and so the dealness was called into question. During happy hour, you can get a bucket of 5 beers for just $8, as long as you can drink PBR or High Life. Which honestly, compared to drinking Bud Light or Miller Lite, isn't so much different honestly.

Anyways I'm not giving Home Team Grill any dining Oscars, but if you want a chill, clean place with food to watch sports, this is a good choice. The staff was friendly and came around at a good pace to offer you more drinks, and as mentioned were willing to work with you on finding your team on a TV, and so I think overall thats a good deal.
