A furtive dive bar located amongst some Asian eateries and a well-established Korean market. It's long and narrow and fairly small, considering it has two pool tables but hey-more chances of interactions with strangers. Inside, there was a small, bright aquarium which seemed out of place, as well as signs alerting customers about the cash-only, the bar's drug policy, and the fact that the bartender is always right.
The bartender of the night was fantastic and made a mean sidecar, which tasted authentic. She was also on top of getting our orders and replenishing our beers. The popcorn at the bar was a nice touch but I resisted my munchies because I wasn't drunk enough to not care about the many hands that plowed through that bowl. I played a couple games of $1 pool instead and bought a few rounds when I lost as part of the deal. Good thing the drinks were cheap, not to mention it was happy hour.
Great little dive for when you need a cheap drink. $3.75 for my usual order, a gin and tonic. Lawrence the bartender knows what he's doing - this is one of the few places that I've had a dirty gin martini that tasted good - not overboard with the olive juice, but just enough to take the edge off the gin. Delicious.
Good prices, friendly staff, fun crowd. Sports on the TV's, but it's usually muted. I'm sure they'd turn on the sound if you asked them to!
With about 30 minutes to kill before meeting up with an old friend of his in Cupertino, our hero ventured solo into foreign territory to explore this small dive bar nestled in the corner of a (largely) Korean shopping center. Â $3.75 well drinks, $1 and $2 mixed shooter specials, and a bar that's seen better days greeted our hero... and then the regulars offered him a slice of pizza too. Â The old timers and the bar staff are definitely friendly, but not overly friendly to the point where they'll drown you out with stories about how cool Homestead was back in the days before Silicon Valley exploded (although it was allegedly one of the hottest dance clubs in the Valley back when Jobs and Wozniak built computers out of a garage). Â It's pretty randomly located in a predominantly Asian area and definitely not somewhere people wander into on a whim, but it certainly does the trick for a quick drink if you need one. Â It's not a place to hit up for a lively crowd or the widest variety of drinks, but it'll do the trick (or serve as a good stop on a dive bar crawl).
PROS:
- Spacious parking lot.
- Happy hour from 4-6 PM daily.
CONS:
- Cash only.
- Generally older crowd.
- Only two beers on tap.
- Specials can be erratic based on the bartender that's working at the moment.
Cash only!
What a great little find my friend and I stumbled upon! The bartender was so friendly, the people inside were enjoying each others company a the bar and at the pool tables and it's a great place to people watch. The lady suggested we try her "rootbeer" which was a fabulous concoction of a few things I do not remember but I do remember that it was like drinking a delicious dessert. Another please!
Will return!
Started here before seeing a show at The Avalon across the street. Â For that purpose this place is ideal as it will ease the blow of club prices on drinks.
Cool music on the juke and very cool as everyone still cheered the Niner highlights on beating the Saints 2012. Â Yay for dive bar camaraderie!
After an unsuccessful trip looking for an open soju place, my friends and I randomly ended up here on a Friday night.
The place is pretty small but gets the job done with their full array of liquor and booze lining up from wall to wall. I've never really been to a dive bar before so i wasn't really sure of the place but all I can say this place is great.
The bartender was a character with his jokes and was very catering to us with the strong drinks and peanuts. Since my friend lives around the corner, he gave us tokens that were good for a round of beers . Naturally we just used them that night.
Some locals came in and bought us drinks too.
Overall a fun experience and definitely could see myself going back there to hangout.
This is the kind of place that locals know really well and non-locals don't even know is there! THE quintessential dive bar.. complete with a friendly yet seemingly ownerless dog wandering in and out lol
I was heading to Avalon across the street for a show with some friends and we decided we should meet up early for some cheap pre-drinking.
The bar stools were mostly full when I arrived (7:30pm on a Friday) and both pool tables were in-play. Mostly middle aged men.. I won't complain, this is obviously their territory! The patrons seemed friendly if not for the occasional bewildered "Why are you here?" look. They don't look like they see many younger and/or female customers.. but you also don't feel those creepy "Mmm, young meat!" stares like you do at some places. Blegh.
My only complaint is that the jukebox was incredibly loud so you have to shout over the music to have a conversation.. however, the bartender was very friendly when I asked if she might turn the volume down.
But who could complain about anything with $3.75 rum&cokes?! Especially when compared to the $8 ones at Avalon -eyeroll-
I'll definitely come back if I'm headed to any more Avalon shows or for a break from the the high-heels and Ed Hardy world for a good dose of some friendly salt-of-the-earth folks.
As dive bars come, this one is pretty good. Â They have pool tables, it's not too stinky, friendly and ... colorful patrons, and a crackin' loud modern day "jukebox" which likely shakes the goldfish in their aquarium at the entrance. When the music isn't playing, it's very quiet, quite pleasant and perfect for gentle musings with friends over a few bottles of beer.
Pretty cool that they have a foot massage place open until 10pm a few stores down. Too bad we stopped by at 10:15 and were denied massages :(.
FYI, Â it's cash only at the bar.
Saturday night, 4 of us were going to a karaoke place nearby and wanted to grab a few drinks first. So we looked on our GPS and picked this bar, totally random. Upon walking in and looking around, we all thought it wasn't going to be fun, judging by how empty the place was at that point. There were many vacant seats at the bar so we sat down and ordered drinks. It did pick up after a while and once we started drinking, we didn't really care how busy or not it was anymore.
I once had a shot of drink that was green in color and extremely yummy. So I asked the bartender if he could make me something green and yummy. He went away and came back with this unnamed amazing green drink that was so good that I didn't want to down it in one shot. We keep asking for yummy drinks and he kept giving them to us. I asked for a purple drink at one point and that was delivered too. He also gave us popcorn, cookies, and mandarins. I'd never been offered cookies at a bar before. That was super sweet. Â
There are 2 pool tables, a jukebox, and a electric dart board that we had a blast playing with. The crowd was eclectic and friendly. The only thing I would complain about is, like some other reviewers have said, the smoking right in front of the door. I got a headache smelling it while playing dart.
Overall, this is a really cool, laid back place. It gives you a strange yet familiar feeling. We all had a really good time. The fat gold fish are adorable too.
I'm increasingly impressed by each new dive bar I try and this joint raises the bar. I came here with a date after dinner at Orenchi and immediately I felt like I would be garnering a lot of unwelcoming stares being the only Asian guy. Â However, I was pleasantly surprised by how friendly the place was. Â In fact, the regulars here in this "Cheers-y bar were very eager to get to know us. Â The bartender even comped us our first round of drinks! Â That's what I call hospitality! Â Even when we paid for our second round, it was only 4.50 each for a Maker's and Coke and a Cosmo. Â Definitely impressed.
Despite the older, everyone-knows-everyone crowd, I would recommend this bar to anyone in the area that has not been because I really had a great time just chillin' here. Â They even have a bookcase for those with nothing better to do but sit at the bar and run through a few chapters. Â Very friendly,
Things that make me happy in a dive bar:
Stiff drinks poured by fun bartenders
Touch screen games - especially naked photo hunt
Great music
Amusing patrons
All of the above are present at Homestead and they offer something I have never seen before - drinks chips to cash in on your next visit. Crazy old drunk guy buys you a drink that you don't want? The bartender gives you a chip to bring back so you can take advantage of that free drink next time. They also have a pool table and I'm pretty sure a dart board but the regulars dominate that area of the bar.
The only thing that turned me off, besides the creepy old man hitting on me, was the cigarette smoke. People smoke outside but right by the open front door so even in you stay inside you'll leave smelling like an ashtray.
peace, love, and good booze ~ chase

Great little dive bar! I just moved into the neighborhood and was looking for a good bar walking distance from my house. This is the perfect place. It's has darts and pool tables, cheap drinks, fun jukebox, and friendly bartenders. The regular patrons seem to be a little kooky, but in a good and entertaining way. Glad this is my new neighborhood bar :)
Review Source:Honestly, this is a fairly run-of-the-mill dive bar and I would have only given it three stars but the last couple times we've gone we had a really great bartender named Conor, which made it a lot more fun. He's there a few nights a week, had great drink and music suggestions, and mixed us some excellent shots.
Otherwise, it's a slightly older, pool-playing, beer-drinking, generally affable crowd, drinks are pretty cheap and it's convenient when I'm visiting friends who live nearby.
If you like a nice, laid-back dive bar, this is a great place. Â For me, it's a five star, but only because I can walk there. Â The bartender was very nice. Â The patrons were all local and very friendly. Â I'll definitely be going back there. Â If you're nearby and like a good bar rather than a place where you can dance, check it out! Â Also a good place for a game of pool or darts. Â The jukebox is 10 plays for a dollar and has some great 70s/80s/90s rock.
Review Source:I like this place, great "homie" dive bar! Â I love the atmosphere, owners are super friendly, good country music selection, free corned beef and cabage on St. Patty's day - can't beat that!!!! The bartenders are sweet and the local regular alcoholics are fun and amusing...great place to grab a quick beer and play a game of pool.
Review Source:So, some times I'm a little slow...I went to play pool with a friend of mine and one of the charming patrons commented that I had a nice rack. Â Well, I thought they were talking about the pool table/accoutrement and I replied that they could get their own across the bar. Â The patron looked confused and walked away. Â My friend busted up laughing (and didn't/couldn't inform me of why for some time).
Thinking back, the reason why I had misinterpreted the comment was because of his tone. Â It was rather observational and matter of fact and therefore a little hard to take offense - which is totally fitting for this place. Â Were the Homestead Lounge a person, he would shrug his shoulders, jut out a lower lip and plainly state, "yeah, I'm a bar." Â
This place is divey but not in a skeezy way... although there are some unusual smells in the corners. Â Nothing has been updated in 20 years and that is how the regulars like it. Â You can entertain yourself with darts, pool ($.50 a game), or pinball. The drinks are inexpensive and the bar tenders keep them flowing (so bring your cash!). Â It's best if you bring your own crew of folks but even if you don't, you'll have a good time.
First let me tell you, Dive Bar. Â If you are not the dive bar sort then this place is not for you. Â If you can walk home and enjoy a "where everybody knows your name" sort of feel this place is fantastic. Â The bartenders are always nice and very generous. Â It is cash only but they have an ATM if you need it and if you make friends with a patron, they will likely buy you a drink or two. Â They have 2 pool tables, pinball, darts and one of those touch screen trivia tv things. Â Don't be afraid of the blank wall and red door that makes up the entrance, stop in, have a drink and make some friends.
