Sometimes I'm just doing too good for my own good. Walked into the H&B with some fellow bourbon/being drunk enthusiasts and immediately knew I should settle in. Started with the Pritchard's and enjoyed it very much. A friend knew the bartender, which in these parts instantly makes everyone best friends so the game was definitely afoot. We stopped in somewhere near the middle of a long night of bar hopping, so I'm not sure what I drank after the Pritch, but I'm pretty sure I wasn't mad at it. I do remember a beautiful space that was, in my mind, a perfect place for throwing back a few of the local favorites. Also LSU was losing to Alabama on the TV, and while I could generall give a shit about either team the locals were quite excited and it made for a very lively atmosphere. Great bar, Â great staff, can't wait to go back.
Review Source:I'm not a bourbon lover but The Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale is the BEST beer I've ever had!! We were staying at the Hilton and this was walking distance. We visited McCarthy's first and along our personal pub crawl, stopped here and didn't leave. The service was great and the battered stuffed yellow peppers were amazing!! We will go back.
Review Source:We stayed at the Hyatt and this was walking distance to the hotel which is why we came but we left happy as clams.
First, my boyfriend is a Bourbon lover - he may be no expert, but he loves his Bourbon all the same and this place had PLENTY of it. We had a couple beers, a Bourbon tasting and then decided we needed to eat something because we had just driven from PA and needed to eat if we were going to keep drinking.
The staff - certainly has their opinions, I'm sure they're knowledgeable. For our tasting, they asked us about our preferences, which is what you'd expect so as long as you give them some guidance, they'll point you in the right direction.
The space - large, open (bi-level), with outdoor seating and a stage in back with a live band that we really enjoyed (it happened to be a Friday and for a party, I don't know what their usual policy is).
The ambience - it's nice. It's dim, there's tops (?) from bourbon barrels along the wall and various sayings along the moulding and I could see it working out for a date, a party, a casual meeting, the works.
And you can order from deSha's next door and well, I guess I'll post about that under deSha's but I for one have never had better fried chicken but that's not saying much. That being said, I HAVE tried fried chicken at any number of places in NY and this was by far the best I've had. As my boyfriend put it, the crunch-factor was "5x any potato chips" which is a good thing - trust us.
This place has kind service, great food, and ohh the bourbon. THE definitive plus: knowledgable staff ob bourbon.
New to town and bourbon with an interest? Start here. Get some bearings and move on to try the true flavor of Kentucky with the Bourbon Trail afterwords.
A great thanks to our bartender for the insights and tastes. I'll be back!
This place has a good atmosphere. We went here during a Saturday in the early evening (8-ish) and it wasn't busy but it was still relaxed. We only went for drinks and they are known for their bourbon. I tried the Kentucky Pale Ale which was aged a month in a bourbon stount... EXCELLENT. It was really smooth eventhough the alcohol content was significantly larger than normal. Around 9pm the live music started (Jon Curtris and Lauren Wilson), they mostly sang country and some pop-like tunes. Overall I enjoyed the place and would have preferred I had been at this location the entire night.
