I don't know -- I was expecting a little more. Â To be fair, we didn't eat a ton of their food, but what I did have I was fairly disappointed with -- and that's the wings. Â I would go so far as to say they were among the worst wings I've ever eaten. Â The problem is not the sauce -- we had the bee sting and it was really pretty good. Â They were also amply sauced up, so I wasn't disappointed on that front, but the meat was weird, grisly, and chewy. Â It was difficult to get all of the meat off the chicken bone in some cases. Â Undercooked? Overcooked? Poor quality wings? Â I don't know, but they were disappointing in a big way from a texture perspective.
The place itself is nice looking and clean -- I had never been to Gavin's, but it seems like the entire place was renovated. Â With that said, it was a weird mix of families and bar patrons, so it just wasn't that fun in there. Â Maybe it livens up later in the evening (we left by 9), but I just wasn't feeling it. Â The place has a feel similar to that of P.J. Whelihan's, but I think P.J.'s is overall more successful atmospherically speaking.
Our waitress was very attentive and was back to bring us more beers regularly. Â She was also quick and not grumpy about bringing us waters and refills on waters. Â We couldn't seem to find her when we wanted to get our check and head out, but otherwise, she did a good job. The bartenders were also very pleasant and weren't grumpy about us asking to move to a table and transfer tabs and what not. Â If you want a pleasant staff, this is the place to go -- I would probably bump this place up to three stars on that front, but the wings truly ruined my day.
I would go back if others were meeting up there for beers (they did have a decent craft selection), but I wouldn't go back on my own.
I would have liked if this place improved since we last went here, but I can't in good conscience give it another star. Â Service was better than the last time we were there. Â I had the cheese steak spring rolls, and they were good, but somewhat greasy. Â I realize they're fried, but that doesn't mean they should have excessive grease on them. Â They were served on a bed of greens which meant that the greens were covered in grease and therefore inedible. Â The special sauce served on the side was out of this world good though. Â We also got Irish nachos. Â They were okay, but not outstanding. Â Just waffle fries that were frozen, not hand cut fries which was a disappointment. Â Also they had jalapenos from a jar on them and not fresh jalapenos which are so much better. Â At least they didn't have canned cheese on them. Â Overall the execution could have been so much better. Â This place still doesn't measure up to the Jamison Pour House, but I'm sure we'll give it another try.
Review Source:This place has really great food, especially for the area. Â I have eaten here 4 times so far and everything has been great. Â Even the lunch special omelet of the day was amazing! Â It is your typical bar food but dressed up a bit towards the gastropub / cafe style. Â Everything was cooked right, hot and seemed to use pretty premium ingredients.
I have yet to have drinks at the bar here but it looks like it would be a nice vibe. Â At least 60 TVs in here. Â Beer selection looks good and they even have a good take out section with some really nice craft stuff.
They also do nice food takeout - very friendly and eager to serve. Â Hostess was a cutie, too.
Anything is better than Gavin's - that place was a cesspool.
