There were two bartenders - a super sweet blonde girl and some rude ass sweaty guy who never acknowledged me and was bragging to the girl next to me about how he was giving the people at the end of the bar well tequila shots instead of the Patron shots they were ordering. SO HILARIOUS. not.

Also, everyone from my high school goes here. I graduated 8 years ago. This is not a good thing.

I love this place! Well...I love sitting in the bar area. Bar staff is so awesome! We have become regulars here for a good reason. The food is a bit pricey, but very good! We love just getting a bunch of apps. We like: nachos, chicken avocado egg rolls, the buffalo wings, and their pizza's. Their chicken tenders are the bomb! Get some with their chunky blue cheese...Yum! Excellent salads, and the french onion soup is yum!

Houlihans is a great chain that provides a ton of choices.  I love sitting in the bar area and getting a variety of small plates or appetizers.  The Long Island Teas have that premade mixer taste which I don't like but they hit me with a new drink that I fell in love with last time I was there... a Strawberry Basil Lemonade.
The seating is very comfortable both inside and out.
Come try houlihans... they have a little bit of everything so everyone in your party should be appeased, and have a great happy hour!

This place used to be my spot on Friday and Saturday nights when they first opened years ago. Before the crowds, before the hype and before the long island ice teas got watered down.

I will say in all that time, I never really ate much off their full plates menu and had much more off their appetizer/small plates menu. The chicken nachos are a great choice for a group of 3-4 that want to share. The Thai chicken wings have great flavor and can fill you up if you're not famished.

I'd avoid the stuffed mushrooms personally because they lack any substantial flavor and are not memorable by any means. The calamari is pretty popular here although I thought it was just pretty good yet nothing amazing. But now to the drinks.

This place is still largely known for their long island iced teas. They have about 5-8 different kinds with each one having a different combination of liquors and mixers. My personal favorite is the Texas because it has the most balanced flavor to it. Some of the other including the Georgia are just too sweet for my palate.

As for the beer selection on draft, there is Shiner, Bud Light, Blue Moon, Sam Adams, Dos Equis, Guinness, & Fat Tire (occasionally) among others. They have pint size glasses as well as the 20 oz ones.

Service here is mostly pretty good but as most bars go, it mostly depends on who's waiting on you. Get here early if you're coming out with a group on a weekend night or plan on standing or sitting outside. Note that on cold nights, they light the pits they have to keep customers warm outside.

Check this place out if you like non-smokey, loungey restaurant bars that don't charge an arm and a leg for food & drinks (especially if you live on the NE side) but don't expect it to compare to the place it once was.

Good place to eat, really great quality food. I recommend the fish tacos.

Service was great and so was the atmosphere.  I only gave them three stars but it was mainly because of the pricing.

Someone else described it as an upper scale Chili's.  I think that is a dead on description.

I love this place! You have to get the picther of the Long Island Iced Teas! There are so good and you can get them really cheap! They have really good specials on the draft beer as well! I love grabing drinks here with the nice atmosphere and polite customer service. This is a place I will go back to again and again!

I would just like to say that I have only been here for late evening munchies and drinks.

I love the Long Island Iced Teas! They're all delicious, and cheap! A pitcher (a HUGE glass) for $5!! Keep'em coming! (just kidding)

The happy hour munchies are delicious too! A bit pricey for munchies, but you do get a lot for your money!

When I come back for actual dinner, I'll update my review =P

My boyfriend and I really like going here. We are friends with a few of the servers so that always makes it more enjoyable too. :)

They have a pretty eclectic menu. Pretty much everything is good. Nothing TOO memorable but all very good. The only two things I didn't like were their Mac N Cheese & their desert menu.

Good for drinks & a couple of plates are good...the others not so much. You kinda come here to meet with friends after or before dinner for their "teas" that are a liter for $4.50 yummy.

Houlihan's is very hit or miss for me. Some things are excellent, and others, well, fall flat. The most recent time I went, they fell flat. My boyfriend and I went to use a $25 gift coupon we got from them because the previous time we ordered takeout, they forgot to include salad dressing with our entree salads. So we decided to give it another shot. I ordered spinach/artichoke dip as a starter, and while the portion of dip was a good size, there weren't enough chips to eat it with. After flagging down our waiter, we were able to obtain more for free (+1 for our server). I ordered grilled shrimp plate as my entree. The shrimp texture was weird. I am a seafood and shrimp lover, I know what shrimp is supposed to taste like. There was something off about it, my boyfriend tried it, and agreed with me. The sides that come with the shrimp plate are pretty disappointing as well. Luckily, the shrimp didn't make us sick. But I will never order that dish again. Service is good, which was the dinner's saving grace. My date liked his pot roast. I'll go again, but I will definitely try something different.

totally bummed -- had drinks with friends and ordered dinner to go only to get home and have sliders that are raw -(not exactly sure how you get raw undercooked sliders -- they are so small)-  so no dinner for me tonight -- boo!!!! I took two bites before I noticed --  sucks, I was so hungry! Very disappointing!!!

I called and spoke with someone who said that they would take care of me on the next visit -- I'll write an update  to let ya know what happens. In the meantime I'm starving and out 10 bucks....

Giving them 3 stars for the benefit of the doubt -- since I've been there regularly before and its always been great in the past -- really hoping that this was just a fluke.

Very cool place!  Never been before, but noticed many times going by and finally stopped.  Absolutely not what I expected.  Place has the vibe of BJ's and Gordon Biersch, not too upscale, but hip.  Easy to get away with casual or tie, restaurant with bar.  But the food here is why i give 5 stars.  I'd come for just the disco fries and a cold lager.  Fries covered with melted mozzarella and hot pot roast and gravy.  Friggin awesome!  Anyone can cook meat on a grill, and thiers are as good as anybodys in SA.  Also have to mention the white bean hummus with pita bread.  There is something orange about this place from the slice with my beer to the fresh rind grated into the hummus.  All i have to say is very good.

Location is easy to miss.  Access from Spec's parking lot on the north side of 1604, opposite the Forum.  Of all the places to eat near the Forum, this is tops.

if you rated this lower than a five my guess is you have not tried the pot roast!  We have had a bad experience with a server but we talked to the manager and he rectiied the problem.  The food here is fantastic once you try the pot roast you will be hooked.

My wife and I really enjoy this place, the food is great, the small plates menu is great to accompany a beer or wine. Nice outdoor area, especially during Texas winters due to the two gas-fired open fire pits. Great place to hang out, upscale clientele. Give he teas a try, but not in the larger pint glasses because it's more mix than alcohol-ask for the smaller glasses. You can thank me later-

I normally love other Houlihan's locations and would give them 5 stars for this location, also, but the service is just too terrible. The couple of times I have been it has been...painful.

A few months ago we went on a Friday night, relatively busy but we weren't in a terrible rush or anything. Still, it was like pulling teeth to even get our drinks (and most came back wrong when they did come half an hour later). The food took forever and the server didn't help that at all. I really wanted dessert more than anything but after a practically 3 hour dinner my friends were all scrambling to leave.

This last weekend it wasn't as bad but I imagine it was just because it was a really slow part of the afternoon. And even with approx. 10 other customers there it was still pretty slow. The guy admitted he was new and couldn't even answer my question as to what kind of cheese came with the Cheesy Royale.

But, as always, the food is great if you have the patience to wait for it. I think next time we are in town, though, we might try another location that is nearby even if it is a 15-20 minute drive instead of a 2 minute drive from where we stay...yeah. I still haven't gotten my dessert because I didn't want to have to stay for another hour...

Very reasonable tapas and bar drinks.  We enjoy kicking back on the patio for a few drinks and appetizer.  The only reason I didn't give a 5 star rating is the service.  It is hit or miss...some times you can't get anybody to wait on you or your sevice is extremely slow and sometimes you feel like you're the only ones there with how attentive your waiter/waitress is.  Just like most places, you're not always going to get "awesome" service but that just happens.

Would definitely recommend Houlihan's to friends and family!

Cheap, tasty drinks (liquor, wine and beer). Love the tapas menu, too! Service is always good, and if there are ever any problems, they do a fantastic job at fixing it, like it's better that they mess up! Atmosphere is fun and it's not usually loud before 10pm.

We just had a fantastic experience here for lunch! Grant was our waiter, he is so nice!  He went above and beyond to make sure we were happy, and even ran after us with my credit card.
The fried mushrooms were excellent!  Ha some goat cheese in the center. Yum!
The spinach and white bean salads were both so great, and fresh.
We also had the basil pasta, that was great too. I really don't think you can go wrong.  Enjoy! And ask for Grant!

My hairdresser, Yvonne, suggested we try this "upscale Chili's" type restaurant. She said they make their own Ceasar dressing and serve the Chicken Ceasar Salad with warm Polenta Croutons. As soon as I heard "polenta croutons", I was determined to go. Hubby and I went for lunch and it was not busy at all. The dimly lit atmosphere was relaxing and inviting. We both had the baked potato soup, which was delicious. I had to send mine back to be heated up as it was room temperature and I prefer it steaming hot. I had the much-anticipated Chicken Caesar Salad and Hubby had the Chicken Fettucine Alfredo. The baked potato soup was so filling that we were only able to eat half of our entree. The salad was great and those polenta croutons were fantastic!!!! I would have rather had it with no chicken, as it just got in the way of that yummy salad. Hubby thought his Chicken Fettucine Alfredo was okay but nothing special. We do want to return so we can try some other things on the menu.

This is a great place to find amazing food and service above par.  I've tried something new every time I'm here and it's 5 stars for sure!

The ingredients are fresh, mostly all homemade.  The happy hour is a nice bang for your buck.  Love this place, and I always come back!

I love Houlihans, mostly because they give you Nooners. This is what they call their lunch menu. Also what's great is they time themselves on their service to get YOUR lunch to YOU in 15 minutes or less, and they mean it!
I especially like their fish tacos, with a side of salsa and chips - Yum.
I have pretty much tried everything on the menu and have not been disappointed. They also have a superb HAPPY HOUR with apps and a great Martini flight.
My absolute favorite and I order every single time is the Seared Rare Tuna Wontons. LOVE is here and I get it at Noon as often as I can.
