I am shocked I am giving a place I read great reviews about, saw on a nationally syndicated tv show, and talked about as such a great place a 1 star.

First:
Walking in, I had NO IDEA where the entrance to this place was, nor where to park, SUPER CONFUSING.

Second:
Once my wife & I entered the building, some lady just yelled at us "2, sit here" and pointed at the bar with super small stools, while there was still booths open.

We sat down, were given greasy, torn menus. Had to ask for another menu.
A college kid with his underwear sticking out every time he turned around asked us what we wanted to drink, he took our order and we also got the Cheese Fries w/Bacon.

Cheese Fries with Bacon? Sounds excellent! What we got.... a serving of frozen old fries with fatty bacon slices and cold cheese. Worst Cheese fries I've ever eaten.

Dinner:
I got the famous "Diners Drive n Dives" philly cheese steak.
Reminds me of frozen beef, with the same old fries, unseasoned beef, it had no onions, no red peppers, it had cheese and Philly steak. (nothing special) I pointed on the menu to the guy and he said I guess the chef forgot the rest, I said don't worry I'll eat this.

My wife got an omelet, omelet was cooked properly, but her potatoes? Tasted like biting into a baking soda filled potato which has been frozen for months and not properly seasoned.

We chose not to stay for dessert as to sad disappointment this place turned out to be for us.

We checked out the bar which was way cool except the fact it smelt like dirty rotten bar dishes, and years of neglect of cleaning.

I guess they live off the reputation of the Diners Drive n Dives show, but since then... if it was amazing, it , at least MY EXPERIENCE/OPINION of this place is horrible. Would never recommend, nor go back.

Funny thing was at the end, our waiter came by and said: was everything good, how was everything??? And before we could reply, the older lady said "What, like there gonna say it was bad??" I bit my lip and we walked out.

Service may have been slow but considering the amount of traffic and orders moving in and out of this place I was impressed. Each girl I had seen on the wait staff were bustling around and were very busy and very attentive. The portions were more than enough and not one person in our group of four could finish their meals because they were so big.

Wait for breakfast was standard and average. And if anyone complains about the wait time here then you jut haven't waited for 45 minutes at an IHOP who serves less people and gives you less of a portion. Wait staff from hostesses to waiters were all very friendly and they even had an entertainer singing for breakfast, I enjoyed the experience and loved the music (inside) and the diner feel with the 50's feel. I would definitely return to this location. If you have whiny girls drop them off out front since the back smells like septic or chicken poo so they do not have to smell it and complain. When this place is packed parking out back can be a chore but the cost, portions and experience was something I appreciated.

Service was very slow. Ended up here for breakfast. I wouldn't hardly call this a restaurant, we got our own drinks, silverware and had to walk up to place the order. Just an over rated counter service restaurant. The food was descent, nothing special.

Eat breakfast, Philly cheese steak or burgers in a Quirky diner from the 50's. Slow service, but friendly. Disposable dishes and styrofoam cups seem wasteful and out of place in the vintage setting.

Wow I had heard so much about this but you need to know that it's a diner and there are a lot of wood buildings around it but it's just a diner. We were quoted a 45 minute wait but it was over an hour. The food came out on plastic plates. Drinks are in styrofoam cup. Service was just OK. I saw many guests had to flag the 2 waitresses there to try to get drink refills or get their bill or get it paid. The food was ok. I had a chicken fried steak and the large is 2 round patties (pre-formed) and my partner had a hamburger. It was nothing fancy and the taste was just OK. The bar which is in a separate building made it seem fancy because they serve fancy looking drinks in glasses. It's nice to say I've been, but probably would not wait more than 20 minutes. I guess it's a fan of the locals. No table can accommodate more than 4 guests. We saw a lot of people get food to go and then just eat it outside where they play live music.

Saw this on Diners Drive-Ins & Dives and decided to give it a try. My friend got French Toast which was alright while I got a chicken cordon bleu sandwich which was great!! Juicy, hot, and delicious! id eat it everyday if i had to! The coconut cream pie was the best I've had!

Stay far away from the cheesecake, The rest is aight

UPDATE: the food prices have gone way up on some entrees several dollars. The atmosphere is gross and always sticky... there are at minimum 2-3 flys.. flying around every time I am in there.

I enjoyed hullabaloos for one reason its location ..5 minutes away... but for the price I believe you should get a better quality meal, certainly better service, and a less gas station like atmosphere...

I wont be going back to hullabaloos

So I grew up in Connecticut and went to school in New Jersey and therefore my standards for what a diner is may be higher than a Native Texan. Well, my family recently moved to the BCS area and I was really craving real diner fare and diner atmosphere. Well, I got really excited when one of my husband's co workers mentioned Hullabaloo Diner. So I proceeded to look it up and saw that it was on Diners, Drive In and Dives. I then got super excited because I love that show and I always say that I want to go the places that he features. My family decided to go today which is a Saturday. I had heard that the wait can be pretty long on weekend mornings so we got there about 10 minutes before it opened. There was already a line of people waiting. There was a host writing down names. He was nice enough though not super friendly. So we waited about 20 minutes which included the 10 minutes waiting for it to open. Not too bad for a breakfast place on a Saturday morning. The host walked us to our booth which had black duct tape all over them. The menus and silverware were already placed on the table which was nice. And the waitress came over pretty quickly considering there were already 3 or 4 other tables in her section. The inside of the diner was tiny. I think there were probably only 10 booths and the counter seats. It definitely had the feel of a diner. However, the menu was lacking in choices. I was expecting a huge breakfast menu with different types of pancakes and different breakfast plates. They only had 16 items to choose from. And the peanut butter and french toast sandwich which was featured on the show wasn't even on the menu. So I ended up ordering the breakfast platter which came with home fries, two eggs and your choice of wheat, white, rye toast or tortilla or biscuit. My husband ordered the french toast sort stack with 2 eggs and I order the same for my girls to share. My breakfast tasted fine but I could have made it at home for half the price. My husband said that the french toast was really good. However, the home fries were not home fries. They were pretty much thick cut french fries cut into bite size pieces. I was super disappointed with the meal overall. The scrambled eggs that I ordered for my girls were overcooked. And everything came on disposable plates and cups. The prices for the actual food was reasonable but for 2 cups of coffee and 2 cups of chocolate milk it costed 10 dollars. I realized you need to mark drink prices up but seriously 6 dollars for chocolate milk!!!! The service was good. Our waitress was a young lady who looked like she attends A&M and works at the diner part time. However, I could have made the meal that we ordered at home and saved the $40 dollars and 20 minute drive. This place definitely was a let down for breakfast. I told my husband we should give it another try for lunch or dinner as the more recent reviews are not for breakfast. So I would definitely not recommend going here for breakfast when you have Cracker Barrel in town.

Went there Sunday with family from out of town. This is the fourth time we have been to the diner.

The atmoshere: was fun - good live music outdoors and we enjoyed a few drinks while we waited for our table. Wait was about an hour and 15 minutes but we knew that going in. We had eight people in our party so we expected it. People who complain about a long wait even though they knew it would be a long wait should eat at home!

The food: Hamburgers were good but the fries are not the great fries they used to have but rather the same old bland fries you can get at 100 fast food places in town. Pancakes were uh okay but not "slap yo' Mama" good. I would rate them mediocre to good. Western omelette was fair - slightly overcooked and dry but lots of veggies - way short on the meat (as in not any at all). Potatoes were blah - bland, no flaver. When one eats at a diner they expect GOOD REAL hashbrowns fried in BUTTER. You don't go to a diner because you want to stay on your diet for the day. Their potatoes are obviously made ahead of time and warmed up. Not tasty at all. Another family member had eggs that were supposed to be "over medium" but the whites were all runny. Chicken fried steak was good. Biscuits were "meh". Certanly not memorable and they were served with no butter, jelly, honey nada. Had to BEG for butter. That stuff must be $50 a pound down in Wellborn? Coffee is very low quality. Again, not like you would expent at a diner.

The service: Poor. Pretty much had to beg her to come over to the table and had to ask for everything. Her demeanor was not rude but was not what I call a great service experience.

Overall, I feel they have gone downhill and are cutting corners to increase profits. They are trying to live on their reputation from triple D and it probably won't work long term. I doubt I will go back.

My first experience with biscuits and gravy - the sausage chopped in the gravy was amazing! Definitely as small-town, Texas feel as you can get! The wait staff was friendly and the coffee was good. I wasn't a fan of the paper plates, otherwise, loved it!

Five stars for being among the few places in BCS to seriously showcase Texas craft beers. Hit up the Karbach tasting Saturday (having missed the one at O'Bannon's, and it was excellent. Good crowd with a serious appreciation for good beer.
Oh yeah the food here is great.

Love this place because 1) you get to eat delicious diner food, and 2) it's in a trailer-diner.

Their Roman Sausage was wonderful, as expected. What makes this dish, aside from the sausage, are the provolone cheese and spaghetti sauce. Philly Steak is great too, with an abundance of condiments. I hear it's safe to order any of the omelets. And yes, the Aggie Special 12-egg omelet is as big as it sounds.

Hullabaloo's surprise are its fries. They're lightly breaded, crisped right, and there's more than enough on your plate.

There's usually a wait, usually between 10-20 minutes, and maybe 30 minutes if its a busy day. But you'll Hullabaloo (I don't know what this means) after your meal, so the wait is always worth it.

My girlfriend went to A&M and we were in town to watch the Aggies take it to Sam Houston State. As with all great sporting events, I needed a little pregame fuel. I find that a breakfast of biscuits and gravy is always the great way to start your day, so she recommended Hullabaloo's Diner as the place to go. The wait wasn't more than 20 minutes and once we were seated at the counter, we got service promptly.

I was tempted to go ahead and try the 12 egg challenge, but decided that would be a terrible idea if I actually wanted to make it through the entire A&M game. Instead I settled on my biscuits and gravy while Ami got an omelet. She stuck with water and I ordered OJ, which tasted pretty fresh. The food came out and while some parts of the biscuits and gravy were a bit cool, it still tasted fantastic. Solid pieces of sausage in the gravy really added to the entire mix, and there's nothing like eggs and home fries with a little gravy on them (seriously!). Ami's omelet was delicious and the veggies in it tasted fresh. For the cost of it all, it was really a lot of food!

I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great breakfast. Next time I'm in town, this is one of the first places I want to go.

The Original Diner Burger was great! The fries were some of the best I've ever had! They are phenomenal. The reason I'm only giving three stars is because the food here is usually hit or miss. I went with 6 of my friends, and only 4 of us liked our food. It didn't help that the other 3 people that liked their food got the exact same thing, the Roman Sausage.

We had problems with seating, since the place is so small. Also, we had a few problems with the checks. Nevertheless, my 3 friends and I went home happy while my other 3 friends were sorely disappointed.

Well, I came on a saturday morning, knowing i will have to wait for a party of four, wait time of an hour-hour and fifteen. I asked hostess about two times about my party's progress in the wait list, she gave me attitude. Hostess then asked us if we wanted to sit on the counter, i declined and wanted to wait for a table, then offered another party of four the counter as well, they declined too. However, when a table opened up she asked the other party of four for the table first then my party, that really got me upset and I found that unfair.
So we had to wait longer than the hour fifteen and finally we were sat. First of all, the table was dirty and sticky, I had to ask a waitress to clean up the table. My parents ordered coffee and asked for cream with it. The cream was old and probably spoiled which curdled the coffee. So forbid they can have good coffee with non-spoiled cream. My mom's french toast was still undercooked in the inside, it was not cooked all the way, nobody wants raw dough. I ordered an omelette, the eggs taste bad and too fake, i couldnt even finish my omelette. Sausage came in a little plate with a puddle of grease and/or oil, seriously? And the syrup bottle was VERY sticky and dirty with syrup, they can't clean up the bottles? Sticky hands can turn off your appetite. And sure i love big pancakes, but can they not give us bigger plates to make up for the size of the pancakes? We can;t even pour syrup on the pancakes without the syrup going all over the table.
Overall, i had a very bad experience and I do not plan on coming back here again, I do not understand the constant business. I do not recommend the Hullabaloo Diner.

Caught the Hullabaloo's Diner table this afternoon at the "First Ever" Aggieland Culinary Expo at the Plaza of the Memorial Student Center on Texas A&M University Campus.

http://www.yelp.com/biz/…

Here we found some excellent locally made pies, they said that they are taking pre-orders for the holidays. These pies rocked! Had no idea Hullabaloo's had World class deserts.

Should not come as a surprise as Hullabaloo's Diner was the very first location that Guy Fieti of Scripps Food Networks Diners, Drive In's and Dives ever reviewed in Season 1, Episode 1. Easy drive from Kyle Field after the game. Better to leave College Station in this direction post game.

Woop woop! Hullabaloo's Diner is a great find in BCS. We're TV groupies and found it after it was featured on Diners Drive-Ins & Dives. It lives up to the hype!!

My wife had pancakes that filled up the plate, the kind that you eat like 1/5 of the plate & you're full. My daughter & I both enjoyed our omelet and french toast.

Fun spot, go later for less lines on the weekends. Maybe stay home on a busy college weekend, we've been out on football or parent's weekends & it's just too damn busy (in the parking lot & a wait list.)

First, I will say that it was nice to go to a retro-styled diner and not have to stare at Elvis memorabilia the entire time. Way to break the trend, Hullabaloo. I applaud you.

I came with the hubs and brother-in-law. We were not greeted when we came in the door, so there was that awkward not-sure-if-there-is-a-host-or-if-we-can-seat-ourselves business where people stare at you while you try and decide if it's cool to just find a seat yourself. We eventually grabbed seats at the counter and our waiter introduced herself. She was an odd one - the kind of person that's overly high-strung and kind of stresses you out a bit.

I ordered a water with lemon. It came with a lime. Not really a big deal, but I wish the swap would have been acknowledged, or warned to me beforehand. I ordered the liver and onions (yes, I have adventurous, weird tastebuds) and it was actually very delicious. The best I've had in a while.

Unfortunately, the same degree of deliciousness did not hold true for what my husband and brother-in-law ordered. One got the Reuben sandwich, which was mediocre at best, and the other ordered a club sandwich which was literally plain white bread with plain American cheese with plain sandwich meat. No thanks. I don't even keep that crap at home in my own fridge.

For dessert we split a slice of cheesecake that had "boxed cheesecake" written all over it. What a waste of a couple hundred calories.

Our tab totaled to about $45, or about $15 a person, which seemed a little steep for what it was. I guess the good news is that I will probably never find myself in whatever town Hullabaloo is in again. It was B-F-Egypt, Texas, if you ask me.

Was in the area for work and this place was recommended to me by the hotel shuttle driver. First off, if you're looking for the old school nostalgic classical diner, this is it. Always enjoy going to a place I will never forget and this fit that bill. Went with the Redneck Philly Cheese Steak and was not disappointed at all. It's basically a Philly with two fat slices of bacon on it. Outstanding! Just needed to do some cardio the next morning due to the calorie intake, but sometimes you need to indulge a little.

Hullabaloo caneck caneck! Where do i start about this place? The food scene in college station isn't that great, so having an old timey diner was really cool when i was in school. Hullabaloo is probably the best place for comforting food in College Station.

I've been here mutliple times throughout my college days. The menu is fairly generic for a diner, you got the meat loaf, the country fried steak, and etc. The menu items that stand out at Hullabaloo are the different philly cheese steaks, the different variation of fries, and the spaghetti with meatballs. The philly cheese steaks have thinly sliced ribeye, so tenderness is given. Add caramelized onions and mushrooms? you got yourself a winner. Provolone cheese is added which melts down into cheesy ribbons of goodness. Hullabaloo loads their fries with anything. Sausage gravy, cheese, and bacon? why not. The portions are huge so you might want to share one with 2 other people. The spaghetti there has a nice red sauce but the kicker are the meat balls. They are the size of baseballs. Great tenderness and containing lots of moisture, these meatballs would make any Italian or Guido proud.

Hullabaloo is one of the two places i miss and crave for these days. I always make it a high priority to dine there whenever i'm back in town.

I'm a total DDD groupie so on an overnight trip to College Station we decided to go out on a Sunday for breakfast/lunch. The food was OK, nothing to rave about but not bad. We had a 30 minute wait and ended up with 2 stools at the bar. The place is tired and looks nothing like the pictures they post and they show cute cups, creamers in the shape of cows etc...well it's not so. We had hamburger steaks on black disposable plates, coffee & water in styro foam cups - it was a let down we won't be back. BTW we had no phone service out there on our cells.

This place is a nice break from all the chain restaurants in College Station. Food wise - I've enjoyed everything I've tried here (burger, Philly cheesesteak, chicken and sausage gumbo, Ruben sandwich) but everything is super greasy and in HUGE portions. Your basic diner food. The one thing that keeps me going back are their fries. Super crunchy and golden on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. :D

I still wanna try the pancakes!

Took off a star because the waitstaff is very average and not personable... I dunno, when I think of diners, I think of friendlier and homier people. I've probably seen too many episodes of diners, drive ins, and dives..

Phenomenal! Warning...the portions are huge so consider sharing. If you look for a really unique place with a really creative and fun menu, then head to Wellborn, TX.

I had the 2 eggs with Biscuits and Gravy. The gravy was awesome! And the eggs were perfect.

Go early as it's not really big place so it fills up.

Aggies think Hullabaloo is sacred, but this place is only fine. I had the two egg platter with a biscuit and sausage. The home fries were the star off the meal and the biscuit was pretty good. The sausage was too lean and dry and the eggs were scrambled and undercooked. The service was slow and we had to make changes to the bill. Overall, Hullabaloo is not worth the 20 minute drive for breakfast.

Caveat: I haven't eaten lunch here. Perhaps that's worth the drive.

We got here and ordered a sprite and a coke... they were both flat. I'm not one to get picky in front of the waitstaff but they were really bad. They gave us refills but there were still flat! Oh well, they didn't charge us so that's good.

It took them a long time to ask us what we'd like because they were pretty busy BUT the food was great!!!!

My friend said they had very very good coffee, and she enjoyed her french toast.

I got the grilled chicken sandwich, the waiter mentioned they had good grilled chicken and they DO! It was juicy and wonderful!

My other friend got the breakfast sandwich. She said the bacon was pretty nasty... and it did look a little fatty, but oh well. I loved the grilled chicken.

Goes without saying that I'm one of those DDD groupies that was mentioned in an earlier review. My wife, knowing this, took me here as a surprise on a birthday day out drive from Houston. I'm glad I didn't read any of the reviews before we went because I might have been a little jaded... but now I know a lot of the yelpers on this page must have been having a bad day or are simply crazy because this place is great!

Walked in the door... place is packed for lunch... right away we were given guidance on where we could hang out and they'd come get us when a table was ready. That didn't even take 10 minutes and we were promptly seated. Waitress was extremely friendly and of course I had to ask for recommendations since I had not seen the actual episode that Hullabaloo's was on. She said the Philly or the Pot Roast.... I went Pot Roast and it was not a mistake! The meat was soooo tender, just melted off the fork into your mouth. Flavors were awesome, the portion was huge. Came with veggies and mashed potatoes smothered in a gravy. Was so full after eating that I wasn't able to try dessert but boy did some good looking pieces of pie walk by us on the way to other tables.

I don't get to College Station that often but when I do, Hullabaloo's will be on my must stop list.

The first two times my friends and I went here, we loved it. The food seemed a bit pricey, but I guess the company I was in made up for it and I overlooked it since I had so much fun.

The last time we came it was freezing cold outside so we decided to order some hot chocolate and my goodness did we regret that. The hot chocolate was definitely not all that good, especially not $5 worth. After each one of us walked away with a $22 bill for a mediocre brunch, none of us went back.

After a disappointing dinner, we were hoping brunch would save the weekend! As in keeping with our cursed nature, we arrived at Hullabaloo an hour before it opened. Not to be deterred, we wandered down to a lovely gas station and waited in the air conditioning. When we arrived back, there was a line outside the door but we were able to be seated with the first waive of guests.

The interior is everything you want from a diner- long and narrow, comfy booths, and a great menu of simple classic dishes. I love the pig snout coffee mugs, though they confused the hell out of us at first. What is this? It looks like... Thank god for our waitress, Kanada. She was great.

Portion sizes border on the obscene and the prices are super low. 5 of us ate for around $40. We had: biscuits & gravy, cheese omelet (super fluffy and light), Hullabaloo cheese fries (blue cheese crumbles with green onion and buffalo ranch sauce- really good!), large stack of French toast (looked like about half a loaf of french bread- a lot but so good), and I had the huevos rancheros. The green chili sauce added just enough kick but I wish the tortilla had been fried a bit longer as it got soggy super fast. Still didn't deter me from clearing my plate! We also ordered two slices of cheese cake to go. It's brought in from Carnegie Deli in NYC, and is probably the only reason to go there.

I'm sad to have discovered this diner on what is probably my last trip to BCS, but if I'm ever back I'm heading straight there!!

Hands down the best place to eat in Brazos Valley. Last time we visited College Station we went here on one of the last days we were in town for the first time and wished we had tried it sooner! A year later we are back in town have eaten here 3 times in 4 days!

My wife loves the Huevos Rancheros - they cook the eggs perfectly and she claims she could just eat a whole bowl of the green chile sauce they smother it in. The cinnamon rolls are the size of a large head and are perfectly sticky and sweet, the only problem is their portions are SO LARGE that it's difficult to save room for a cinnamon roll at the end of the meal. So either plan ahead or get a roll WHILE you eat.

I really liked the GIANT breakfast burrito smothered in the green chile sauce - though they should consider re-naming it to Today and Tomorrow's Breakfast Burrito (and Maybe One More Day After That Too) because I doubt it could physically fit into a persons stomach in one sitting.

Their grill items are excellent too - loved the blue cheese bacon burger, the patty melt was nearly perfect, and the redneck philly cheese steak was a gooey mess of tasty (the addition of bacon makes it "redneck"). Also, the fries are some of the best fries I've ever had - thick, crispy, and full of flavor - but dip them in their special Spicy Buffalo Ranch sauce... I just got full THINKING about it.

Wow, how are these reviews so high? Nasty food served in a run down leaky car . The whole place is run down. Sure, this was featured on diners drive INS and dives, it is surely the latter. The one good thing about this place is the Carnegie Deli cheesecake imported from NYC. (those familiar with NYC cheesecake know junior's is much better). Regardless, hullabaloo is seldom open, and the one redeeming thing they have, the cheesecake, they screw up by running out of it all the time, or at best may offer you a frozen piece. On my last two visits they were literally out of half of the menu. For a real diner experience make the short drive to Hearne.

FOOD:
My main reason for wanting to come here is because of Guy Fieri on Triple D. I got one of the things he ordered, which is the Roman Sausage Sandwich. It was delicious, especially with the spaghetti tomato sauce on the side.

The best thing there: THEIR FRIES. Seems like they crusted it with something before frying. I don't know what they did, but it was the perfect crunchy on the outside and oozy, hot goodness on the inside.

I was a little disappointed with their french toast though. They use what looks like french bread, and personally, I like the orginial white bread french toasts. The sides were kind of hard and not as soft as I usually like my french toasts.

ATMOSPHERE:
Cozy. Apparently they shipped in the diner from New York (why to College Station, I have not a clue still). Usually there's a wait (at the most 30 minutes).

SERVICE:
Waitress wasn't too friendly. But not horrible either.

Ok so the place was on food network, being so close AND a food chickie... you know I am going to check it out. (a little late to the party but still here!)

I agree with others, no sign to seat yourself so we didn't know what to do.

Fiancé and I split the Philly Cheese Steak (decently good) and cheddar cheese fries.... I think I blacked out and went to diner heaven. I have no idea why THESE were not featured on the show. As a non-cheese fry fan I was not expecting much other than stringy cheese and disgusting grease. What I tasted was stringy cheese, wonderful grease, and a little bit of awesomeness mixed in! ok ok... I am getting carried away but you get the point. CHEDDAR CHEESE FRIES = FOOD NETWORK GOOD! (cause I am an authority!) ;)

We also ordered the cheesecake (imported from NYC) to go for late, yeah AWESOME too!

We will go back. but I was a bit disappointed to see the lower reviews, that is sad because the place has so much hype (with food network publicity)

I have not been to the bar area outside so really can't say anything on that. As I visit more I will be sure to edit my review!

EDIT: 14 months after the fact, it has been brought to my attention that I said "Longhorns" rather than "Aggies." I leave the original review intact so I may willingly receive all of the deserved ridule I am sure to get.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think the Diner's main appeal is to locals, as I could feel myself getting a few odd stares as I was not wearing Longhorn apparel. Regardless, I sat down and ordered a slice of pie and a cup of coffee. Standard diner fare, both were tasty, and I left fulfilled and satisfied. I found service a little slow.

I've been to about three dozen locations profiles on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, and it seems to me that the show is a double-edged sword. No one can argue that the show increases awareness of businesses that are personable and can usually put out some decent homemade food, but at the same time, it creates groupies - people like myself - that make it a hobby to travel to these places featured on the show for bragging rights. It's a momentary positive for the business, but for some of these out-of-the-way locations, it's not in their best interest to provide the best service to me, because they know that I will never come back. And I will probably never come back, not because of the food or the service, but because I was in Houston, traveling to San Antonio, and College Station is only vaguely between to two.

Maybe the Hullabaloo Diner wasn't giving me as good of service as I would have received if I were a local, and maybe it's all in my head, but what I do know is that after a day of visiting 7 other DDD locations in Houston and ready to head home, that pie was pretty good.

My wife and I ate at Hullabaloo's three times this past week. Once as a treat for out of town guest; once for a social event; and finally just dinner with one of our sons. We were very satisfied with each of our visits.

I've had the Chicken Fried Steak sandwich, the bleu cheese burger, a basil-chicken pizza, and the cheesecake. You won't leave there hungry because the portions are big.

Their french fries and their pizzas are very good.

Disappointing - just average - not worth the drive

Nice restaurant, great service and just mediocre food. That's a bad combination. The quality of food can always trump service and atmosphere.

The concept is cool. A large menu with lots of diner standards and some quirky appetizers.

I had a Philly cheese steak and my wife had the meatloaf. Both were served with a smile. The only problem - I've had much better TV dinners. Both dishes looked like the real thing - they just did not taste all that good.

Would I go back ? Probably not for the food. Maybe if they had a decent band.

Not good. I actually saw this diner on Food Network's show "Diners, Dives, and Drive-Ins." I was excited that anything from the College Station area would be featured on Food Network so we drove the short miles down the road to try Hullabaloos.

When we entered the diner, which is an authentic dining car that was shipped intact from New York, we were a little confused about what we were supposed to do. Nobody looked up to wait on us or tell us where to go. Finally, the guy behind the counter escorted us to a booth and took our drink orders.

The menu consisted of classic diner fare, which excited me because I love greasy spoons. I ordered the chicken fried steak. It took much longer than I thought appropriate to get my food. When I got it, I was pretty nonplussed. It looked, and tasted like a frozen chicken fried steak patty. Maybe it wasn't, but you obviously could have fooled me. Since I had heard good things about the place, I decided to give it a second shot and order desert. Not good either. I ordered the cheesecake, and it was not good. It tasted like it had been sitting out for quite a while, and tasted like every other piece of frozen cheesecake I've ever had.

I was really disappointed because I love old diners, and diner food, as unhealthy as it is. Needless to say, I haven't been back.

The best thing about the place? If you love the campiness of old dining cars, the atmosphere is the one high point.
