Don't let the decor scare you away. So what if it hasn't been updated since the 80s. The FOOD IS RIDICULOUS! BUT, if you just order regular food then it's pretty much Chinese. We order the HOMEMADE potstickers with chili and vinegar. DELISH and my favorite is the crispy pan fried noodles with a sauce. Its a lot of food with a sauce of veg, shrimp, beef and chicken. I love the crispy noodles with sauce on the side to dip it in to keep them crispy. We had the Peking Duck for Christmas and it was off the hook! Delicious buns, sauce, scallions and crispy duck. Really good!
Review Source:This was the first restaurant I came to when visiting the Seattle area and I was so pleased. The food was great and we had excellent service! We also used a Yelp deal that offered $30 for $50 worth of food, so we ended up only having to spend $8 after that. The portions were huge and we had a bunch left over as well. We ordered the szechuan platter and it was a full on three course meal. Soup, apps, and entrees. It was a great experience and I'd recommend it for Chinese to anyone!
Review Source:The food was surprisingly delicious. I went on a Saturday night, which was hopping with karaoke fans who actually didn't sound bad at all. We ordered the chicken lettuce wraps (awesome), chow fun (good), wor won ton soup (looked amazing, but I couldn't have it because it had shrimp in it), Mongolian beef (yes, please!), and Hunan hot pot (I'd like seconds). The tea was hot and flavorful. In summary, Hunan Palace is good food, good deals, and good fun. Definitely wouldn't mind going back when I'm in the area again.
Review Source:Oh no. Just sad, sad, sad. The food was bland, greasy and boring. HUGE place, totally empty - except for us. That always makes me wonder. We ordered a platter that was supposed to have a little fire on top but ours was out... the platter was even broken on one side. We didn't mention it though because - oh my gosh - the servers seemed depressed... literally. I found myself being extra nice because I wanted to cheer them up - but it was obviously a lost cause, me just being a 'blip' in the radar screens of their very sad, empty lives. I even feel guilty for being honest with this bad review. I'm sorry guys - I'm sure you are special people and you deserve a happier existence! I hope you will consider scrapping this business and pursuing something more meaningful to each of you.
Review Source:Who cares about the food or service...the karaoke was awesome! After an odd year class reunion, some classmates I couldn't remember took me to karaoke here. The place was large and bustling and the music had great sound....mixed well.  I don't  usually drink the stiff ones, but my companions ordered me a couple shots and my head was buzzing before I got my second song in. Two girls had worked out a couple unusual duets that sounded great. Everyone was friendly and I had a really good time.
Review Source:We just got done playing golf and my friend suggested this place for lunch. Â I have seen this place along I-5 but never thought about trying it. Â So today was a good day to check it out. Â I love Chinese food and only like a few around Seattle and the Snohomish area. Â Hunan Palace had great lunch specials. Â Very reasonably priced too. Â I had the Mongolian Beef. Â It came with an egg roll and soup. Â I had the hot and sour soup and I must say that usually dictates how the rest of the meal will be like. Â The soup was great and so the rest of the meal. Â I will sure come back here and try their other dishes. Â So Beijing Garden and Hunan Palace are now my 2 favorite Chinese restaurants in the Everett area.
Review Source:first review right herr and i've chosen to pop my yelp cherry to Hunan Palace.
ok, so certain waiters could be nicer. i'm a regular and even I still roll my eyes and hold my breath when they ignore my thank yous or meekly greet me in. but i am here for the food so watevs.
this is my go to place for chinese. i've tried others in the area but this is just solid chinese food. i only come for lunch because i never surpass a $20 bill. somedays ill be courageous and try something new on the lunch menu but usually stick to some mongolian beef or chicken chow mien. their sizzling rice soup is good as well.
their food is great, ask for hot sauce on the side if you like it spicy but i will defend this place to the death. i'll drive from lynnwood to north everett for this place when the craving is bad enough so that's saying something.
We came to this restaurant only because the Best Western hotel receptionist recommended. I was already disappointed after entering the restaurant. The deco was like from 80's. When I asked waitress for some recommendation, she could not name one. She simpled said all chef's specialities were good. We got to the restaurant around 8pm. The restaurant was almost empty. But we still waited for 15 minutes before first dish came. The food was OK, but definitely not good. It was American Chinese style. We requested extra spicy, but it came as extra saucey, not spicy. I will not recommend it at all.
Review Source:Not a place I'd return to. Â I was in the mood for spicy food and having just eaten Mexican food yesterday, I decided it was a Chinese food night. Â I'd read about this place on Yelp so wanted to give it a try. Â Sometimes I wonder about my adventurous nature... Â Anyway, on to the review.
As you walk in, you are greeted with some huge fish in a too small tank. Â This just made me sad. Â So they get 0 stars for animal cruelty.
As for service, we were seated promptly and everything was done as expected, but only the lady refilling water ever smiled or was polite. Â Everyone else was very sour. Â Not just business-like, but looked and acted very unhappy. Â So I'll give them a star for the lady but no more because everyone else was so grumpy-faced.
I ordered a Blue Hawaii. Â It was green. Â And it literally tasted like swimming pool water. Â Neither of us could stomach it so they get 0 stars for the bar. Â
The food was okay. Â HOWEVER, there was NO spice. Â We had Mongolian Beef and General Tsao's Chicken. Â Neither had even 1/2 star of spiciness. Â We both contemplated eating the dried peppers they were cooked with just to wake up our taste buds. Â Bland doesn't even begin to describe the food. Â It all tasted the same. Â Just... meh. Â Even the Hot and Sour Soup was just sour. Â No spice what-so-ever. Â I'm a bit of a lightweight when it comes to spice, so when I say there was no spice, THERE WAS NO SPICE. Â Ketchup is spicier than this food. Â Okay, I think I've made my point. Â The quality was okay, so I will give them 1 star for quality, but since we went specifically for spicy food, that's all they get, 1 star.
I guess that averages out to 1/2 a star. Â Yep.
If I was craving Chinese food in Everett I'd definitely come here.
Pros?
-Friendly service
-Bar guy is great at making caramel apple shots and socializing with obnoxious drunks (my party of people is usually large)
-The sweet and sour chicken and the kung pao beef were QUITE tasty
-Karaoke!!!!!
Cons?
-I've only been there late at night and on weekends
Tips?
-They sometimes skimp you on the fortune cookies unless you just take one ;-)
I have been coming here since I was a little girl... since... well... 1994.
I'm pretty sure some of the staff is the same also... (and some of the fish [seriously though... stop hating on the fish! Those big guys have been in those tanks for so many years & they haven't died yet!])
Anyway.
THIS IS MY GO TO CHINESE FOOD SPOT!
It's not super nice inside & it occasionally can feel very cold/empty... but their food makes up for it.
I come here on Christmas Eve with my family every year & we've yet to be upset about it.
I love their BBQ Pork Lo Mien the most. It's absolutely the best Lo Mien I've ever had & I have to have it every time I go.
I'm trying to think about the negative things about their food, but I can't seem to think of any!
Their soups are always tasty... not too salty & everything comes out steaming hot.
...I somehow always end up being hungry 3 or 4 hours later though... Hmmm.
Iv'e been going here ever since we moved here to wa. Its not the best but it is the closest ok chinese food to me. If I have time I would totally travel farther for better but most of the time I have to settle for this.
Mongolian beef is maybe 3/5 rating and there fried rice isn't that good but edible. The one thing I look forward to here is the appetizer that has a little of everything but the best is the marinated beef sticks you grill yourself.
This is the kind of place that probably saw it's peak in the 80's, the decor and fish tank water probably hasen't seen a change since then either.
The seating was uncomfortable as the springs had worn out in the benches sometime back when Seattle had a winning NBA Basketball team. The lighting above our table kept flickering on and off, which I got to spend plenty of time noticing as the 45 minutes passed before getting our entrees.
Not to mention the 20 minutes waiting for anyone to even take our order or acknowledge we existed in the realm that they were on. The waiter was abrupt, no name no how do you do or specials. Didn't even ask about drinks and had on a killer bluetooth headset that made him look like he was sent back in time to kill John Conner. The tables near us that were seated afterwards and ordered much later than us were eating and paying their checks already.
Not a single bit of communication or topped off water glass or even replenishing the empty tea pot, no name tags or any personal service here.
Finally after being given ample time to meditate on my place in the potential afterlife I was gifted with awakening aroma of burnt egg and smoke point oil that they gently caress the Hunan Fried rice, then again I was left to wait for the careful delivery of my small portion of overcooked, cheapest cut of the chicken, General Tso's Chicken. I had ordered it as a medium spice level to gauge this place as it was my first time there. It had zero spice to it, in fact the sauce was so flavorless the garnish that they must have spend a half hour carving out of carrot and cucumber had more depth and flavor.
I will never again go here, and I don't know why anyone would subject themselves to this place. Safeway China Express is two notches above this place.
My family loves Hunan. Â They have inexpensive and really tasty lunch specials, plus they let you get those same specials for dinner for just a $1 more!!! Â Our favorites have to be their General Tao's, and Mongolian Beef. Â Their Pan Fried Pot Stickers are to die for, they are huge and delicious!!! Â We always order them with vinegar and chili sauce. Â Yum!!!
Review Source:Consistent Chinese (Americanized) food. I have been going here for several years for the lunch special. Others have commented on the place being dirty, they should go to china towns in big cities and see how the old restaurants and lunch counters look. I rate 3 stars for general consistency (sometimes I feel like it rates 5 stars depending on my mood, but 3 stars in general, a decent place for americanized chinese lunch).
I usually order the Mongolian beef (which I would rate at 3 stars at best) and the general tsao's chicken (large portion of what always seems to be freshly fried big chicken hunks in a spicy sweet ginger and garlic sauce...if it wasn't such a gut buster I would love to live on this dish, I would rate 4 stars).
On the last visit the fried rice changed, it used to have more barbecue pork and is usually a fairly light color, this time it had more soy sauce and less pork. I've yet to find a decent fried rice in this part of the country unless my mom makes it, it should be greasy and fried in a wok.
I really like the hot and sour soup, a few times it was a bit too vinegary but hands down better than the other places I have tried in Everett. I think it is the ground pork that sets it apart.
So your mileage may vary here. If you happen to be in the area and want to spend less than $10 for lunch for a sit down meal with soup, fried rice, fried egg roll, entree, water, hot tea and fortune cookie it might be worth checking out (average price for the lunch specials are in the $6-$7 range which is part of the appeal for me). The dining area is a decent size with some larger booths (I like to come after the lunch rush to get a booth and when it is generally quieter). Again, I know people have commented on the fish tank and the place being run down looking, but I do like the concrete wall that surrounds the perimeter. There is landscaping between the wall and the seating windows that I think give the place a nice private cozy feel.
No idea why this place gets such great reviews! We went here for our last meal before we head home to TX tomorrow and were sorely disappointed. Â The place is (as someone below has mentioned) run down and dirty, those poor huge fish are living in a tank WAY too small for them and the quality of meat in their dishes SUCK.
We ordered the Lazy Susan (misspelled in the menu) to start, it comes with a small flame-pit in the centre, the food around the flame pit came out cold. Â Ok, if the menu had said 'cook your own food' I'd have understood, but it came out cooked and cold/luke warm...were we supposed to reheat it ourselves in the flames? No one explained how it 'worked'.
Our entrees (Hubby had General Tsos and I had curry chicken) were just 'ok', the curry sauce and veggies were delicious but the meal was destroyed by really awful quality chicken and hubby's general tsos was bad cuts of chicken covered in 2inches of thick batter.
I really don't get why everyone's raving about this place, if this was our local chinese we'd find a new one - it's terrible!
This place has been around for a long time , serving up both good food and great value . The is old fashioned chinese-american food, not sophisticated asian-fusion or anything like that. It's the kind of chinese food that your parents took you out to, when you were a kid . All the familiar favorites are there , and the well-used dining room plays right into that comfortable stereotype of the slightly run down, but cheap and delicious chinese restaurant.
Ten years ago, the food here was simply sublime , and could stand right up to comparison with much more expensive restaurants in neighboring Seattle and even Vancouver B.C. . It was truly a hidden gem .  I'm sad to say that in recent years, the food has lost a step or two. Dishes that used to be prepared in chef-like fashion , perfectly seasoned and prepared , are now missing that extra , expert touch that  really set them apart . I guess they lost a good cook or two , who knows ? Â
That being said , Hunan Place still compares very well with the dozens of other chinese restaurants in the area, and in most cases is much better , both in terms of quality, quantity, and price. Â
Favorites include Kung Pao Chicken or Beef, Sesame Beef , and Walnut Shrimp (goes by a different name on the menu, which escapes me at the moment) . I recently tried the Pork Egg Foo Young, and it was quite good .Excellent Hot and Sour soup , and good fried rice , although the rice they served ten years ago was fantastic (!)
This place is flat out CHEAP. Lunch specials are all under $6.00 , complete with main entree (about two dozen choices available), fried rice, spring roll, choice of soup, tea, and fortune cookie. It's a heaping plateful of food , and I usually have enough leftovers to make a light dinner later. One thing I really like is that the lunch menu is available for dinner as well, add $1 ..... that's a big, delicious dinner with beverage, for about $7....that's drive-thru fast food type money. I enjoy fine dining, and will spend over ten times that amount on a good meal , but having Hunan Palace down the street is perfect for those times when I don't feel like cooking, but also don't want to spend $50 or $100 on a restaurant meal .
The lounge packs in a good crowd on Friday and Saturday night, with karaoke being the big draw. Good place to bring an adult group for an informal gathering like a birthday party . keep this in mind if you are looking for a quiet, intimate setting after 9 on those nights.....it can get a little raucous, and the lounge is separated from the main dining area by only a curtain.
Haute cuisine it isn't , but Hunan Palace serves up traditional chinese-american that is a cut above the other local options, and does it inexpensively. Definitely worth a try if you are in the area .
I was in Everett for a Seminar and this was the closest restaurant next to the mighty ghetto Best Western on Pacific Ave. The restaurant is HUGE and their menu is ridiculously lengthy. I decided to settle for a lunch special (very last page) and went w/ their version of Yui-Sheng Chicken (called something else like chicken w/ tangy sauce).
The meal was okay. The flavor of the chicken dish was definitely tangy but I didn't get the satisfied level of spiciness nor the combo of sweet & tangy flavor. The chicken itself was a bit dry and I think the sauce could have been more thicker. The fried rice (w/ veggies) was pretty good and the meal came w/ a spring roll (not really an "egg roll" since it was wrapped and deep fried in rice paper). All for $5.99 (they give you complimentary hot tea) which wasn't bad at all.
Service was okay, the folks who work here are all Chinese (if not most) and it's standard service as you would get in any Chinese restaurants.
Hunan is a favorite for my family. The food is classic-americanized Chinese food.
The quality and freshness of food seems to vary depending on the night but more often than not we get delicious and satisfying food.
Try the eggplant lovers and the sesame beef.
Their lunch specials are great.
I've been here a couple of times, and the food has been great in every instance. The lunch hour is usually half way busy, and the time i went on a Thursday night, the place was dead. I sat in the lounge and the guy working the bar got me drinks right when i needed them. Mac and Jacks and Widmer Hefeweizen were the only beers i remember specifically being on tap, but they do have a few more.
This place is great.
Definitely one of the best place to get Chinese food in Everett. I mean the Americanize kind. I don't think the food here is authentic Chinese, but a few items I ordered from here are pretty tasty. My personal favorite are Mandarin chicken wing, double ocean delight, honey glaze prawn, fish fillet in chili sauce, and seafood sizzling rice soup. The prices are pretty competitive to other Chinese restaurant around here, but the portion are bigger.
The service was fast and friendly, the restaurant is huge and can definitely accommodate large party. The place could use some update and clean up a bit. Great parking.
Its ok but nothing to write home about. Â I had General Tao's and my wife had Sweet Sour Chicken.
The restaurant was run down and dirty on the inside.
The wait staff was friendly but it took over 20 minutes to get take out after  I ordered in person.  I will not be going back here anytime soon and will still be looking around everett for a decent Chinese place.
I think I have heart burn!
Stopped here in hunger desparation after dropping off supplies for the Everett Animal Shelter.
The first impression was a dirty fish tank with 2 fish who were too large to even turn around in the tank. Â I felt really badly for them! Â Then there was a grouping of disgusting worn out ripped chairs almost thrown about as if waiting for some one to take them away. Â Is this where they expect people to sit while waiting for a seat? Â Well luckily they were empty enough that no wait was necessary!
We were worried but the few others who were there seemed to be enjoying their food so we thought what the heck? Â I was famished so quickly placed an order for some BBQ Pork of which arrived with a nice little fat line in the middle of it but ate around that and was satisfied.
We ordered the Combo Dinner C. Â
Egg Flower Soup-This was the best part of the dinner. Â Lots of lacy egg and a good salty chicken broth.
Pork Fried Rice-Nothing special, basic rice with cubed carrots and peas with a small trace of a few tendrils of pork.
Mongolian Beef-Not spicy at all but the meat was tender this was okay.
Chicken Chow Mein-Very close to what you would get out of that wierd canned stuff at the grocery store. Â There was no chicken however I was happy to find some Bok Choy in there. Â The goey mixture was placed on top of those crunchy noodles of which tasted stale. Â
BBQ Pork Chow Fun- I was very leary of this one as I had never heard of it before. Â It was a strange omelet like dish that enveloped veggies and BBQ pork then was covered with what looked to be the same gravy you see on top of Almond Chicken. Â I took two bites and passed on it. Â
They did provide us with large portions so I didn't feel the need to eat what I didn't like. Â My hunger was satiated however now I have a huge whole burning in my chest. Â I've never experienced heart burn before, guess I better go search the cabinet for some wayward Tums!
We eat here at least once a month, it's a very good Chinese place and the food is very good, the service is awsome and usually there's never a wait. Â Last night we ordered Seafood Fried Rice, asparagas with beef, General Tsaos Chicken and of course we had to order Noodles, we were so full it was great time, they give you plenty of food and there's no designer portions. Â We have dinner for tonight they gave us so much! Â We will be visiting again I'm sure!!
