I used tolive very close and could stop in here right from the train. I had a taste one night for just fried rice and egg foo young - things I seldom ever order, but it was one of those times I craved it. The counter person was VERY rude saying "the chefs do not like cooking this because it is such a cheap meal, they will nto be happy with this order." Well, #1, i was a prety regular customer there, and my regular bill was never "cheap". #2 I did not know I was supposed to make the chefs happy - I thought I was supposed to order what I wanted to eat. #3 if they don't like cooking it - be one of the only places that don't have it on the menu. I stopped going there after that. The food was not bad, not great - standars, average chinese take-out.

Took over an hour to come. The food was not the worst but definitely not the best

I've tried about every Chinese restaurant in the Albany Park/Mayfair/Old Irving/Jefferson Park area, and I have to say that for take-out, this place is the best.  While I haven't tried everything on the menu (yet), I'm slowly working my way through it with great results.  Food is consistently good, and they have a delivery driver that must use a teleporter.  I swear that I had just hung up the phone when my door bell was ringing with hot and delicious food.  Don't go there for sit-down as it's very small, with just a table or two, but stop in, take out, or have it delivered.  You'll not be disappointed!

I've finally found THE best in Chinese food!

Their steamed pot stickers are heaven! They are made with a ground pork that has been seasoned well and mildly spicy..not just just some bland lump of ground pork.

The Mongolian chicken has a perfect amount of heat and VERY flavorful. Their meat entrees actually have meat and NOT just loaded up with veggies! Even though the veggies are a perfect crisp tender texture.

The egg foo young is separate from the gravy..so it stays tasty as oppose to soggy.  Everything is super FRESH and oh so delicious!

I do not like their egg and spring rolls..but a LOT of their dishes are very delicious! I will definitely be a regular customer. I'm addicted!

I have been ordering Chinese from Hunan Spring for over 5 years.  Very fast delivery, really good egg foo young, polite people.  I just wish the egg rolls were better but overall good and inexpensive Chinese food.

My wife and I ordered delivery last night. The crab rangoons looked like they were under a heat lamp all day, they weren't crunchy at all. There wasn't much crab in them either, it was mostly all an odd, liquidy cream cheese. My moo shu pork was 95% cabbage and they forgot the plum sauce. My wife liked her mapo tofu well enough, though.

We probably won't order from there again. Is there a good Chinese or Thai place in Jefferson Park?

I agree the Vegetable Dumplings here are delicious. Spring Rolls are deep fried. Not what I had mind. Good neighborhood place for delivery or pick up.

This is a pretty good little spot we work with in walking distance and I will be frequenting this establishment often. This is more of a take out spot, but if It is not busy there are 2-3 tables where you can sit and enjoy some food. I had Mongolian chicken which was very good I suggest you try this instead of the beef.

this place used to be great.  but last night we ordered the usual items and they were awful.  this place has 'jumped the shark'. egg rolls were 85% celery.  shrimp w black bean sauce was mostly onions.  this means they are substituting good quality for just cheap ingredients.  so buyer beware.

So after a night at the circus and my 7 year old niece bouncing off the walls due to a high amount of cotton candy intake I decided we needed to eat something that was 99% sugar.
My niece wanted Chinese food which, not my first choice but who is to argue with a girl coming down from a serious sugar high.
Being late and confused from the time change we landed at Hunan Spring. I wanted some thing a little lighter and healthier then the typical Chinese fair so I opted for a spring roll and broccoli in garlic sauce. My niece being a 7 year old likes meat on a stick, egg rolls and white rice. I know very healthy but at this point what does it matter.
Spring Roll was fried and not very good. My niece only took two bites of her egg roll but devoured the teriyaki chicken. I also had one and although it is fried it was good just a little greasy. The broccoli was perfect just enough sauce and it wasn't to heavy.
My niece now sits a little calmer since she has a belly full of white rice and chicken making me one very happy aunt.

Pretty good for the price. I've always had delivery only.
We order there pretty often and it's cheap with lots of fresh ingredients.
My new fav. is the General Tso Tofu (greasy good but in tofu form, :p)
They do not have any fish or Chinese vegetable, but overall, the food is decent.

Hunan Spring is an all right place for Chinese food.  Wife and I just moved in the neighborhood recently, and have been ordering from different Chinese Restaurants to find a good, decent, close one.  And this one fits the bill.  It's close, food is okay, delivery to the house was pretty fast, and prices were pretty reasonable.  One dish that we liked from our recent orders was the Chow Mei Fun (sp?), which I believe you can order with beef, chicken, etc.  The noodles had a nice smoky, wok fired taste.

Overall, good food (for what's around), okay service, okay prices.

We love this place.  We probably order from there about once a month - either pickup or delivery.  There's really not a dine-in option as they only have a few chairs.

The food is tasty, and theirs a wide variety on the menu - thou we usually stick to the following items:

The sweet and sour chicken, schezwan chicken, & orange beef.

The portions are big enough that we almost always have enough for a second meal from the leftovers.

It's our favorite local Chinese take-out food.

For 5 dollar lunch, you get soup, egg roll or HOMEMADE crab rangoon, a can of pop and chicken, pork or SHRIMP fried rice along with your entree. I highly recommend the Mongolian Beef or Garlic Chicken. This is one of the best Chinese stops around.

Okay so my favorite neighborhood (Linn's Garden) Chinese Take-Out closed, so a friend recommended this place...
    "HUNAN SPRING"

Now there will NEVER be a place that has better eggrolls than Linn's, but this place gets the job done when I'm too tired to cook, don't want pizza (my husband could eat it every night, ugh) and craving some good ole' Chinese.

Prices are very reasonable. We only get delivery-and it is FAST!!
Our usuals are: Beef Fried Rice, Cashew Chicken, Beef Egg Foo Young, and they have an excellent (and healthy) Steamed Chicken & Veggies (no gravy please!). Pretty good Hot & Spicy Soup, also.

I do miss Linn's Garden but Hunan Spring has done well as a close second.

I had lunch today.  I ordered the Orange Chicken.  It was ok.  I also received a egg roll with the lunch.  I didn't care for the egg roll, it didn't contain much meat(shrimp or otherwise).

I may go back to try a different dish.

Super cheap, and always high quality.  Hunan Spring has great weekday lunch specials crammed with food.  Favorites include Buddhist Delight, Cashew Chicken, Curry Chicken, and egg roles.
