Went on a Sunday around 2pm, walked in, and was stunned at the tiny seating area, about 4 tables.  No sign saying seat yourself, so we got in line behind 3 people who were ordering to go.  No hi, no greeting, no nothing. After about 5 minutes of standing there, my husbands back began to hurt so he sat down at a table.  I remained in line, THEN the girl behind the counter asks us if we are eating in, I tell her yes, she says to sit down an she will send over a server.  A lady comes over, drops off 2 sets of silverware, and says, you can get in line whenever you get ready!  WHAT!  Now there are two other people who walked in who we now are behind because we were told to sit down.  TOOK FOR EVER for them to fix people's plates.  Spent too much time talking to each other and no sense of urgency about them.  My husband didn't want the all you can eat buffet, but we were NOT given the option to order off of the menu that was on the table.  Service was just horrible to non-existent.  You would think they would be able to handle one dine in couple and a few to go folks with 3 people behind the counter, but they couldn't.  I see why the place was empty.  Having said that, the food was really good.  I had baked and fried chicken, greens, Mac n cheese, red potatoes, red beans n rice, cabbage.  The rest of the items available looked like they had been sitting there for hours.  The food was not kept at the appropriate temperature, but was warm enough to eat.  Although I liked what I had to eat, the service was so aweful that I won't ever go back.  Too many other southern food options in Chicago to go here.  If you live in the neighborhood, this place might be worth a try, but if you live more than walking distance, keep on driving by the place.

I've passed this place a zillion times and said one day I'd stop in. It's a small soul food spot located on the corner. It has small seating area for those who want to dine in and everything is cooked to order. I finally did and wasn't too thrilled with my food.  I called ahead for pick up.  The service was okay. The young lady who rang me up seemed nice enough. The price to portion radio is a bit high especially for the dessert. I ordered smothered pork chops, greens, candied yams and banana pudding. They were out of macaroni. Oh well.  Anyway, to make a long story short, the pork chops and greens were too salty. The pork chops were less smothered and more like pork chops with a little gravy on top. The yams tasted like they were out of the can and overcooked. The banana pudding was not bad but it didn't do it for me. I might  give them another chance because they also have fried green tomatoes but that will be it.

Enjoying a Mango Salad... Oh thats right they dont have that here... Horrible Service... Stood there for 5+ mins no1 even acknowledged our presence... 5 people behind the counter INCLUDING the owners and none said hi. I thought we caught a break when some one asked if were being taken care of, we kindly said no, and she sauntered off as if she didnt care.  3 mins later i'd had enough.... We left...  They did have the nerve to great the people who came in through the door we held the door open for!! In shock we left and went to Qdoba!

I have heard good things about the dinners, but I have only been for breakfast. Very good! Smothered potatos, creamy grits and a REAL mug of coffee.

Iona's is a real jewel I had the fried chicken, cajun rice, greens and mac & cheese. The chicken was battered perfectly and tasted great, the mac & cheese was tasty also not to much cheese. I definitely recommend Iona's, and I'll be back to sample other menu items.
