Jack Mc Carthy's Pub

A true local place.  A mix of people playing quick draw, middle aged people hooking up, and a smattering of younger people.  As stated, this is a rough place for outsiders to go, I have been in there when some asshole gave my friend the 'stiff shoulder' for no reason at all.  Normally that would have garnered a reaction from us, but we knew that it would be 2 vs the entire place and wisely ignored it!  Keep in mind too that the police hang out right outside there looking to bag people for DWI, and I am sure that is a prime place for it.
 
  Regardless, I had been back there about a month ago, and they have just installed a new draft beer system.  It was an attractive brass 10 tap system with refrigerated lines.  Refrigerated lines are expensive and rare especially at a dive bar.  The beers on tap were interesting but nothing totally out of the ordinary.  They had Magic hat, stella, landshark, blue moon etc.  Definitely unexpected though from a place that used to serve crappy american lagers and guinness only.

People in there are ok if you know how to conduct yourself in hostile bars, but if you come with a bunch of people or have some loudmouth you will probably garner unwelcome attention.  Even on saturday nights etc when you would expect a bar to have not just the regulars.  It is an interesting place if you like to go to local dives and take your chances like I do!

A dive bar that's been around for years, it has one of those local crowds that can appear menacing, and probably is.

Clean, and (too) well-lighted, the staff is very pleasant and friendly.  I had a "Birthday Cake" shot there, which my cohorts dubbed the "roofie-shot" for its potency and its drinkability.  

I would not go there with a loud mouth or anyone who likes to make a spectacle of himself, as I know both from experience and from fokelore that hands have been thrown at this joint.  (luckily, even though our crowd contained both types in the person of one man, we made it out unscathed).

Not a bad spot, but a spot within which you might want to be wary.
