I love Jake's. Â It's an unpretentious and unapologizing Dive Bar! Â What a breath of fresh air on Main St. Â
Sometimes they have karaoke in the corner, which is a good time. Â But this is the kind of place where you want to sit at the bar, have a whiskey and talk to your neighbors...and that kind of thing is a rare treat on Main St.
People who are complaining about the staff here probably came in expecting to be catered to, that is not Jake's if you need to waited on hand and foot, there are lots of places will to fill that void for you, but this is not one of them. Â
Come to Jakes, have a great time, talk to strangers, talk to the bartenders...and you know what, if you are a dick you're going to be called on it......so don't be a dick!
Great dive bar! Â We ended up here after checking out a couple other pizzerias and finding there would be at least a hour wait for a seat. Â We found our way to Jakes and found two seats at the bar right away. Â Now Jake's is very proud of the fact that it is a dive bar and takes this image seriously. Â So if you are in want of a lounge or restaurant feel, well don't expect it from here. Â However despite our initial concerns, we had amazing service from our bartender even though he was the only one tending the bar and it was crazy busy for him. Â We got our drinks quickly and they were so reasonably priced. Â We ordered the pizza and we weren't expecting much from our pizza but it turned out to be really good! Â So good that I even ate our leftovers the next day cold and the crust was still nice and soft and the pizza was still delicious! Â
Jake's is quite a gem in Breck. Â If other people knew how good the pizza at Jake's is, there would be an equally long line here at Jake's. Â So if you are in the mood for pizza skip the long lines and come here!
We had a great time at this bar while visiting Breck. Â The drink prices were very reasonable and the bartenders were all very nice. Â We stopped in on Friday afternoon and decided that this would be the place for Sunday football and an all you can eat breakfast for $7.99. Â The breakfast was average but plenty of everything you could want including eggs, ham, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy, salsa and other breakfast items. Â The bloody marys were very good, too.
They have the NFL package with plenty of TV's, Â The locals were all friendly and no one treated us like tourists, they were happy we were there. Â Overall a fun laid back place to have a few!!
" Beavers? " I said." You have beavers on tap? Do they have BIG tails?"
"no, Peebrrrs", the barkeep repeated.
"Huh?"
"PBR, we have PBR on tap" they finally explained, like I was a slow drinker.
WHO WHO in the world calls P.B.R. - Â Peebrrs?
It's three letters- it's not like it's the whoe alphabet. Â I am so glad I am from Chicago where we understand drinking.
This is a decent place to drop by if you're in Breck.  They have decent fried pickles and onion rings for a reasonable, bar food price.  I don't recommend their salsa.  It was pretty bad.  The decor is interesting and I loved all the dollar bills plastering the walls with  stupid sayings and drunk ramblings.  Another plus:  Our bartender/server was really cute.  FYI - ask for separate checks if you come in with friends.
Review Source:I popped in here with some friends as were we walking around main st during the day. Â I saw the erotic photo hunt machine and immediately sat down and ordered a beer. Â I only stayed for a couple games, but it seems like a cool place to hang out longer. Â It's a dive, but a clean dive (at least for my standards).
Review Source:Stopped in early on our first night in Breck and they had just what we needed. It was Thursday and they had $2 PBR, cheap Jager shots (we didn't even know we needed those before walking in), Foosball and a Big Buck Hunt game. Place felt very chill. We never did make it back, but i thought it was an excellent spot.
Only complaint was Big Buck was in the path to get to the bathroom so it was a little disruptive with people on their way to the can. Luckily it wasn't too busy when we were there. Bartender seemed  like a good dude.
3.5, actually. They deserve higher marks for great service and cheap beer. I got the local microbrew from $3.50. I'm not sure if that was happy hour (6.30 on a Friday), but it was a surprisingly cheap price.
The food is a solid 3, though. The waiter recommended the philly cheesesteak and the turkey melt, both 8 bucks. My friend got the turkey melt and I got the cheesesteak.
I should note that the best meal I've ever had, in my life, was a philly cheesesteak in Philly, at a hole in the wall. I dream about that cheesesteak sometimes.
I asked the waiter if the cheesesteak tasted like a real Philly one, as I have high standards for this specific sub. He assured me it was, and noted that the hoagies were flown in daily from Philly.
The first and biggest problem is that it wasn't. The cheese wasn't runny like real Cheese Whiz. It stuck to the bread in clumps. There wasn't nearly enough onions and green peppers.
The other problem is that the portions were pretty small. I may be small but I eat a lot. And, I was hungry when I left.
Jake's is a great place where the locals hang out. Its a pretty small place, so you might have to stand and thats okay. The bartenders are nice and so are the patrons. I watched the hockey game there and they had some nice drink specials going on. If hockey isn't your thing, then take a look above your head and take in all the little souvenirs that people have left across the years.
Review Source:I was in Breckenridge for the weekend and spent the majority of the day and night at Jake's. Â During the day, it was pretty empty for the most part, but I stayed entertained by chatting with the bartender. Â Very friendly guy, that one. Â The crew that rolled in that evening was pretty chill; I felt comfy. Â And although I couldn't tell you how much a drink costs, I know my final bill wasn't obnoxious, especially for a full day of booze and food. Â I had a good time...and I'll be back next time I'm in town.
Review Source:Pretty standard bar fare that doesn't exceptionally stand out:
Jalapeno Poppers
Fried Pickles
Jamaican Jerk Fish Sandwich
Sloppy Joes
Homemade Brownies
This place sets itself apart by having very cheap drinks. No matter what time you go there will be evidence of the heavy foot traffic this place sees on evenings, especially during the season. There will be a lingering dingy smoke smell, and the floors may seem sticky and dirty, even if they've been washed. This well used establishment is filled to the brim for DJs on the weekend. The dirtiness and aquatic adornments gives a kind of rockabilly, sailor lovin, punk rock feel. It's nice, but smelly.
While it is difficult to judge a place solely on your New Year's experience, I will do my best. Â I have been to this bar as Clancey's and Flair's and now, it is Jake's Dive Bar. Â Who knows how long this one will last? Â Since all the bars required $20 covers on NYE and this was the least crowded, we decided to give it a whirl. Â We walked into the main bar downstairs and it smelled like throw-up and was hot. Â Went upstairs and there was a DJ and dance floor full of college kids. Â So, back downstairs to the throw-up room. Â I am thinking that the nasty odor is really from the wet floors due to snow being brought in on shoes, but regardless of the cause it was a noticeable stinch.
Anyway, the bartenders were cool and quick and they provided a free (or $20) champagne toast. Â We never longed for drinks throughout the night. Â And, to make our evening really good, people vacated one of the three tables and we were able to swipe it up. Â So, we got to sit, imbibe and celebrate NYE with friends. Â Our friends makes this experience great...so if Jake's is still around next time we are up in the mountains, we may hit that Happy Hour Shiho mentions.
