Hey McNellies!! $3 hamburgers every Wednesday! So awesome! Wednesday nights at McNellies are one of my favorite nights of each week (yes, I try to go every Wednesday that I'm in Tulsa). Of course, if you want cheese it's an extra $.50 but hey, $3.50 for a meal isn't too bad of a deal these days. Also, the atmosphere is awesome! It's such a great place to get together with friends and have a good time! I have been on nights that aren't burger night and the food is still good and a good time is to be had, but it has been years since I first ate at McNellies and I still cannot get over burger night! I mean a burger and fries/sweet potato fries for only $3!! Come on!!!.
Review Source:Where else can you get a $3 burger, some original sweet potato fries and socialize with over 100 people on a Wednesday night? That's why this place gets the 5 star. Atmosphere is great, food is great and the alcohol is better. I did have my first woodchuck at McNellie's so it's an obvious review. Also I have yet to find a place with better tabouili and chicken Caesar wrap. Definitely worth a check out if you have yet to go. Don't expect to be in and out on a Wednesday or weekend, not happening.
Review Source:If you are a fan of beer, this is the place to go.. they have so many bottled and on tap beers including many local Oklahoma breweries (Mustang, Marshalls, Choc etc).
They also serve food which makes it a fun place to get dinner and then stay for drinks later. Upstairs they have a smoking area with a pool table, shuffleboard, darts and Buckhunter for those who like to play games. Downstairs they have their main dining room and bar and then a side bar with another full bar and seating including a cozy area by a fire place.
There is a large room upstairs (aside from the regular dining area and bar) that we rented out for multiple friends birthday's and it was such a good idea, so if you are looking for a fun place to throw a party, keep this one in mind.
Wednesday they have $3 burgers. There are also multiple deals during the week on food and drinks. Also there are tv's to watch games!
Their bartenders are also super cool and friendly people!! Wahoo!!
Loved this old building perfectly reworked into a Irish Pub. Â I tried the Landlords Pie which was pretty tasty but what was better was the potato leek soup!
We started with a non-traditional appetizer of chips and amazing salsa for a Irish pub.
My other half had the open face chili cheese burger which passed the test.
Good service and a fun location!
I want to give this place 5 stars. Â I really do! Â
The beer selection was excellent! My bartender left a little to be desired as far as service was concerned but the bar was pretty crowded for a Monday night and I wasn't in any hurry.
I have reserved 1 star because I ordered the Penna marinara pasta, which I believe is their signature dish, and I found it slightly bland. I will preface this by saying I am a marinara nazi and pride my own marinara as the world's greatest!! . . . So it's hard to take my own opinion seriously.
I will absolutely come back the next time I'm in Tulsa!
Stopped here to have a few drinks before heading back to the airport. They have a great beer selection but I enjoyed several pints of the McNellie's Pub Ale, which I really enjoyed. I also had some sweet potato fries, which were some of the best I've had. The service was good since we sat at the bar. A TV or two to look at would be nice, but overall it was great. Would definitely go back if I am in Tulsa again.
Review Source:Yes they have a huge beer selection and yes you should go to drink there. Â Yes some of the beer is expensive, but you should still enjoy it.
Just don't eat there. Â The food is an after thought. Â Poeple rave about the $3 burgers, which I must admit are tasty, but its not worth waiting for over an hour. Â People also are overly whelmed about the sweet potato fries. Â When I get them they are always soggy.
Upstairs they have pool, darts and shuffle board. Â But it's also extremely smoky up there. Â McNellie's is the place that converted me to believing that Oklahoma should outlaw smoking in bars.
The added on section downstairs is nice and cozy if you can find room or it isn't closed because of a private party or the bartenders just don't want to work on that side.
200+ beers, great food, shuffle board, pool, and darts. This is what a pub should be. Great atmosphere, and great service. This is by far one of the best pubs I have been to in Tulsa. Down stairs reminds me of an old Irish pub, and gets crowded, upstairs is more spaced out, and has the games room with plenty of space. upstairs is also the smoking area, but is well ventilated.
We had the fish and chips, and the cottage pie, and enjoyed every last bite. the food is well seasoned, and freshly cooked. the serving sizes are not overwhelming, and you don't leave there feeling bloated. I had the black velvet, which is Guinness and Apple cider, and goes good with a meal.
I highly recommend McNellie's for any Beer lover, and for the great pub Foody. cant wait to get back here and try something new.
If only I owned stock in McNellie's. Easily the best beer selection in Tulsa, and probably in Oklahoma. The servers are always nice, if not a little overwhelmed by the crowds from time to time, and the food is pretty solid, too. It's not *just* pub fare here, they also have a good selection of healthier items and some great entree variety. Trust me on that - I think I've tried almost everything. Thanks to McNellie's I am 20 lbs heavier and a whole lot happier after work!
Review Source:Best ceasar salad in town. Â Great place for groups to grab a table upstairs. Â But fair warning, if you want to order food, do it downstairs. Â The bartender down there is very sweet and thorough. Â If you go upstairs, they will take your order and let the food sit at the bar till you come get it yourself. Â Other than that, love the place. Â Go see Baeu and Wink on Tuesdays or Thursdays!
Review Source:McNellie's was a-ok, but I'm definitely willing to try it again when I'm not trying to fit into a dress for a certain event.
It definitely has a pub feel, inside and out, and I bet it draws a lively crowd on the weekends. Unfortunately I don't have the opportunity to test that theory out, but it was fine for dinner on a Tuesday. There were many, MANY options that were calling my name (garden burger! fish and chips! grilled salmon! caesar wrap!) but I settled on the cajun style meatloaf. My coworker ordered the fried pickles for an appetizer and wow. I mean, I've had them before, and they are just so simple and delicious, but McNellie's gave me a reminder of why I should have them again. The meatloaf was fine, but unfortunately nothing special. I liked the sauce with the mashed potatoes but when it was combined with the thick, slightly dry meatloaf, it lost its oomph.
In any case, there were enough good-looking meals on the menu and around me that I would try McNellie's again. Plus, I have to go back so I can find out how to get a mug on the wall.
McNellie's is the pub that all other pubs try to be. Â Incredible beer selection, with a variety of serving styles - flights, mixes, and seasonal specials. Â The food is good too, burgers and sweet potato fries are where it's at. Â
This place attracts a diverse crowd (that is, as diverse as Tulsa can get). Â I love catching up with friends here, there's plenty of seating downstairs and upstairs, where smoking is allowed. Â There's shuffle board, darts, and they recently fixed their pool table. Â Great place to hang out. Â Stop by for $3 burgers on Wednesdays.
This is one of my favorite bars in the nation. Â I love coming home to McNellie's.
I finally got the chance to find a true pub here in Tulsa. The beer selection is unrivaled and probably the best in the greater green country area. Prices on food could stand to be reevaluated but its on par for being in downtown Tulsa, especially since it is in the part that is being revitalized.
The bartender was nice and all though it was the middle of the lunch rush on a Friday, she managed to take care of everyone in a very timely manner and was still polite. Â The drawback is that the place could stand to have some sound dampening done to help with the overall noise level. Â It was hard to hear at times in there.
Overall I am looking forward to going back and trying many new beers. Â I am a stout beer fan and finally finding a place that has more then just Guiness is a nice refreshing change.
What can I say, you must have a burger! The pub fries and sweet potato fries are amazing. Delicious Chips and Salsa! Atmosphere is great! If you are a smoker you can eat/drink/smoke upstairs. The staff that I have encountered are helpful, nice and easy going. Â Weds nights, get there early for 3.00 Burgers!
My absolute favorite pub!
McNellie's was a nice find for an out of town guest. Â What attracted the team to have dinner here was the 4 page beer menu which satisfied the beer snob of the group (me) and the moderate beer drinkers of the team. Â Â We started with the artichoke dip and chips &salsa. Â Both were good appetizers with the artichoke dip being exceptional.
For dinner, the group had a wide arrays of dinners. Â The burger was reported as excellent. Â The Tulsa Club was a good sandwich that needed more bacon and less lunchmeat. Â The lemon pepper that accompanied the cobb salad was very good.
The atmosphere was cool, the beers cold and looked to be a great place to hang out at night.
McNellie's is our go-to if we're ever in need of a place to hang out. The vibe is great and there's so many things you can do, so you're never bored. The downstairs has a dining area with an additional side room that can be reserved for private parties. Upstairs contains pool tables, shuffleboard, and darts along with seats to lounge in or large tables for bigger parties.
They have a wide variety of beers on tap and also a great selection of ciders (my fav!) In regards to food, they serve $3 burgers on Wednesday nights, but ends up being more for me since I love to add tons of toppings. I would suggest ordering the sweet potato fries with your burger, they're delicious! You can't go wrong with their fried pickles either, which come out piping hot so be careful.
My only complaint would have to be that they still allow smoking indoors, but it is reserved for the upstairs section only so don't wear nice clothes because you'll end up reeking of cigarette smoke by the end of the night.
McNellie's once had a tap list that was unbelievable, but strangely as craft beer has gotten bigger and better McNellie's draft selection has gotten really small and pretty boring.
They have a good selection of breweries, but the beer list, for lack of a better word, is just not well curated. By that I mean, fine put a ton of OK breweries on the list, awesome. Put their big headliner beers on there. Awesome. BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PUT THE COOP/TALLGRASS BEERS ON THERE THAT WON SOME FREAKING AWARDS. Â Maybe it's a distribution issue or something, or maybe they are just selling what sells, but it's gotten pretty disappointing nonetheless.
Good craft beer selection, especially for Tulsa... So why 1 Star?
Craft beer, if not served in a specialty glass is to be served in a pint glass, which is 16 oz. Â While James McNellie never actually claims to serve pints, they dispense into what appears to be a pint glass. Â However the bottom is thicker than usual, making it about a 14 oz. pour.
While not illegal since they never claim to serve "pints" this practice is usually reserved for soulless places like Applebee's, and not purveyors of craft beer.
Inexcusable, even in the beer wasteland that is Oklahoma.
Fantastic atmosphere, awesome beer selection (I personally loved the Summer Wheat (OK)), MASSIVE -juicy-most-delicious-burgers ever! A side of sweet potato fries will make your tummy happy too! The only thing I can complain about is that my stomach isn't big enough to try every beer and everything on the menu, but that's a pretty stupid complaint. I guess I should just come here every day!
They have fun mugs you can custom design too!
I had a wonderful time here, the waitress was awesome and I'll definitely be back. I loved this place!
McNellie's is a great place to have a pint and get some better-than-average bar fare. Â We were meeting a large group for a pre-wedding gathering but had arrived early to catch the beginning of the Hawks game and have a bite to eat. Â Once the group arrived, we went upstairs to a sectioned off area for the party. Â
The staff was very accomodating of us by letting us turn on the Hawks game as I'm sure we were the only people in the bar interested in watching it. Â The waitresses were all very good, particularly Heather who was responsible for our entire party. Â She was on point all night , never too busy to take your order, and always brought the drinks out as soon as they were done. Â
The appetizers we ordered were chips and salsa (A - nice amount of heat and cilantro in the mix), fried pickles (A - can't beat this oddity), and artichoke dip (no idea, I don't like artee-chokes). Â
Their beer list is damn impressive and for those like me who are undecided, they have flights available (basically beer sampler platters). Â I chose the British Isles flights (Smithwicks, a chocolate stout, Fuller's ESB (!!!), Guinness, and one more I can't remember). Â All were very good, even though I'd had all of them before. Â I didn't hear a single complaint from the beer drinking team. Â
One thing to note: being from Chicago, I'm used to all bars being smoke free. Â The upstairs is not smoke free at McNellie's.
Although I can't speak for the food itself, the beer selection at McNellie's is unbelievable.
And just when I started to encounter feelings of painstaking homesickness for the 816--Kansas City my dearest--they quickly were diminished when I stepped foot inside this full-house of drunken college students and plethora of seldomly found beers.
The location is great--within a block from our hotel. And while civilization in downtown Tulsa is pretty scarce after sunset, McNellie's is sure to hold a plenitude of slurred words, Left Hand Milk Stout, and bartenders that really know their shizzz. Considering they have about 200+ beers in stock, that's a lot of barley pop to know.
McNellies is rich in dark wood, dim lighting, and thick cigarette smoke. While downstairs is dedicated to us non-smokers, upstairs is a free for all, for all you nicotine addicts and "I only smoke when I drink" boozers. McNellies atmosphere is strong in college students--this is definitely not a typical dive college bar. This place is decently clean, upkept, and untarnished for a bar full of drunken youngsters like myself. The decor is a sharp-based Irish theme, and I felt an uncannied impulse to dress up in my brightest green and start celebrating St. Patty's Day 3 weeks early.
McNellie's is alot of fun and they have a very impressive selection of beers. This is a great place to bring out of towners like myself, and when in Tulsa next, I will request a stop at McNellie's.
McNellie's Public House has quickly become a Downtown hotspot. The atmosphere is laid back,  the crowd is varied. and  McNellie's beer selection is absolutely the best in town, with a long list of hard-to-find bottled and draught beers from all over the world. They even carried my favorite cider for a while.
The food is above average for pub fare. The sweet potato fries (try them with they honey mustard) and artichoke dip are held in high esteem, as is $3 burger (or $4 for veggie)  night on Wednesdays. Along with your standard burgers and fries they offer a tasty array of salads and entrees such as a spinach salad with raspberry basil champagne vinaigrette  and cajun style meatloaf. Service varies depending on how busy they are, but I've found that they servers are generally attentive and friendly.
McNellie's is another good find in downtown Tulsa. Â Just a few blocks away from Tiny Lounge, McNellie's is probably a cross between Rogue, Monk's Kettle, and Toronado. Â It's pretty classy inside and they have tons of different beer specials, events, and $3 burger nights! Sadly, I didn't get to try this as I just bopped in for a bit to have dessert (a delicious Lindeman's Framboise) after my one night out with my friends over Thanksgiving weekend. Â
They have a pretty large menu with nice looking appetizers, sandwiches, entrees, and soups and salads. Â This would be a great dinner option before heading off to see a show at either Cain's or the new BOK Center. Â The beer selection is humungous! They have tons of draughts and 3 pages of bottles from all over the world (Australia, the Philippines, Japan, Poland, etc etc) as well as beer flights (yes, please!!) and beer mixes, like Harp & Cider or Hoegaarden & a splash of Framboise. Â Mmmmm!
Great beer selection, but the price was a little steep for OK to all of us from Phoenix. Â We expected beers to be in the $4 price range for most things, because beers usually get cheaper when you go to less populated areas. Â The chicken fingers and sweet potato fries were really good for bar food.
My main problem was with the bartender who was giving us attitude. Â We ordered the Oktoberfest beer, and it was warm so we sent it back. Â She wasn't having any of that and refused to take our beers back for a while and replace them. Â They're warm, why would I want to drink them?! Â Then she was copping an attitude when I asked her to make a German Chocolate Cake. Â I told her how to make the shot, and she went ahead and did it some whack way. Â Then she suggested we go home at 11:30 because we were too drunk. Â Um...no, we can handle our liquor and can drink past 10. Â Geez...
I've had some pretty bad restaurant experiences in my day but I'm pretty sure this takes the cake. Â Disclaimer: they did comp the meal so they realize at least a little bit how much they fucked up but that doesn't make up for very much in my mind. Â I went in with a big group, which does make stuff slightly more difficult on the individual server but absolutely should not throw the entire chain of command and order into shambles.
15 meals are ordered. Â 11 get their full meal right away. Â One of those meals had to be sent back to the kitchen to be re-heated because the bratwurst was barely cooked. Â One person gets her salad but not her soup. Â Three people are left sitting there waiting whilst everyone digs in. Â The waitress refills people's water glasses with Sprite instead of water. Â We laugh it up at first but that's just a sign of things to come. Â
30 minutes pass, nothing happens for the three of us waiting. Â At the 45 minute mark, as everyone in our party is more than finished with their meal, our waitress comes back to inform us that our food is JUST THEN being put into the kitchen. Â
We ask to see a manager, who isn't on site; he's actually sitting at home because it's a Monday night, their usual slow night. Â I don't care what your business trends are, you always have a manager on staff ready to deal with things. Â He comes over and apologizes to us and apparently to at least two other tables of people as well, because the kitchen staff is so incompetent that they're messing up everything.
After being in McNellie's for almost two hours myself, my father and my sister finally get our meal and my mother gets her soup. Â I ordered a chili cheeseburger without onions to be served open face on a piece of Texas Toast with a side of fries. Â Fries are cold and there are onions liberally sprinkled on my burger. Â Fuck. Â Then the best part of all, after I start to actually eat this thing, I realize "wait a minute, this is just a goddamn meat patty without bread."
Repeat. Â They served me a goddamn meat patty.
At this point I'm barely able to contain my rage and just by the slightest bit am able to keep my composure because I'm with family. Â I toss my plate in front of me, mutter a few not so nice words and reach for a menu to point out the fact that my sandwich is supposed to be served on a fucking piece of Texas Toast. Â The called in manager gets me one eventually and I eat my mediocre, onion coated and cold chili cheeseburger.
We walked in at 5:15 and left at 7:55. Â
Every single person on staff should be replaced.
$3 dollar burger night is one of the best things to happen to Tulsa since Ole Garth Brooks. Â Just kidding, but pretty much everyone and there dog goes on Wednesday night for a $3 dollar burger.
Largest beer selection in Tulsa, so there are so many choices you brain will melt in your head and leak out your ears.
The burgers are great. Â
But 5 stars for the beer, it doesn't get better than this.
Sweet potatoes fries save my soul. Â They are that good.
As far as Tulsa even Oklahoma bars, you won't find a better beer selection. Â They have good specials, good enough food for a group of friends to meet for dinner then split into the group that goes home for the night and the others who shut the place down. Â Great thing is the downstairs is smoke free but still has all the beers available. Â Games upstairs make it a great social hang out as well. Â It is in a older part of town so the building has many great older features. Â Looks like it has been there for years.
Wednesday night they have $3 burger night. Â Great burger and fries for the money
Though I've heard this place is rowdy on weekend evenings, this is a perfect spot for a slow weekend day. Â The choice of beers is awesome- maybe not quit at the level of Hop Leaf (Chicago) and Brickskeller (DC), but not too far off. Â On my visit they had a couple of exciting specialties, including a Fuller's Vintage Ale, in addition to a range of staples organized by country, including the excellent North Coast and Samuel Smith series. Â "When in Oklahoma," I thought, and tried the Oklahoma sampler, with six small glasses for $9 ranging from Marshall's Pub Ale (excellent) to Choc Basement Batch and a couple of other wheat beers.
Just like in the classic board game Risk (TM), this joint is gathering up armies so that it can conquer new territory. Â The neighboring Continental presumably got forced out of business by this staggering competition, and McNellie's will in fact expand into the Continental's old space, which should help ease the reputed crowds.
Well, Â I like beer, that is, good beer. Â Living in Oklahoma leaves me quite thirsty and I was pleasantly surprised to find a wall o' taps this side of the Red river. Â Not only does this pub have a lot of quality beer on tap, they have a very good bottle selection, including 4 or 5 Belgian trappist breweries (seeing as there are only 6 or 7, this is very good for OK). Â There are now pool tables, darts and free shuffle board upstairs. Â The food is standard pub fare, not perfect but not bad (try the fish n' chips). Â Some example beers they carry include: Oak-aged Yeti Big Foots, Westmalle tripels, all kinds of Rogue and for the ladies -which includes my brother ;), Â the tasty Belgian Lindemans Framboise.
Cheers!
I love McNellie's. Â Julia's review is pretty spot on... and the food is great. Â
I love me some sweet potato fries!
I'd avoid the place on Wednesdays though. Â They have some super deal on hamburgers and it's a complete madhouse. Â I'd rather spend $3 more on the burger and not contend with such chaos...
It's a great place for lunch too...
And they have pool tables and shuffleboard upstairs...
I could see the fear in all the patrons' eyes as a party of at least 30 college kids stormed McNellie's to celebrate my sister-in-law's 21st birthday. Â Luckily, the young ones trudged upstairs to enjoy the smoking section while the rest of us old folks (good lord, I'm only 26!) stayed below and enjoyed the smoke-free 1st floor. Â That alone--that there are two separate floors catering to smokers and non-smokers--is enough for me to give 5 stars--but it turns out McNellie's is just awesome anyway and they certainly earn all 5.
The pub is a comfortable space and very laid-back, the service is top-notch, fun and friendly. Â The wall behind the bar is lined with close to (if not more than) 100 working taps, so my husband-the-beer-drinker was a very happy guy. Â If he was a regular there, he'd most likely be one of the folks with his very own personalized stein hanging somewhere above the bar.
Apparently McNellie's has food, but the group was clearly there to drink. Â Even the OLD old folks (the parents and auntie) partook in Purple Hooter shots, poured by a very cool bar-tending chick. Â The staff handled the crazy mess of partyin' fools with grace and the locals didn't roll their eyes too hard. Â If I lived in Tulsa I would definitely make McNellie's one of my regular spots. Â And I don't even drink beer!
