The Bar: Located in a strip mall on a main street, which, a few blocks down, a DUI Checkpoint hosted by Orangevale's finest, but that didn't stop this dive from rockin. I arrived shortly after 8pm and this place was packed. A live band on stage and a crowd of people on the dance floor. It immediately felt like home.
The Crowd: All types, from the retired crowd to the college crowd and everyone in between.
Service: Fairly prompt for how busy it was. Â Took a minute to get noticed being a new face, but once I introduced myself the service was quick the rest of the evening. No pitchers and no PBR was a bummer but I made it through.
Prices: This is where I failed. I opened a tab and forgot to get pricing. I had 3 Fireball Whisky shots, 4 glasses of Coors Light draft (which tasted a bit sour), and 7 bottles of Coors Light. Yeah, I had a bit... totaling $46.00. You do the math.
Entertainment: Tonight was a live band by the name of Running With Scissorz. Pretty decent cover band minus singing Green Day, honestly, lets leave that one to the artist. There is also an internet jukebox, and I heard someone mention they have karaoke, but no clue on the night. Shuffle board, electronic darts, 3 TV's.
Restroom: Not too terrible. Kept up pretty good through out the night.
Closing statement: I would recommend this spot to anyone who is in the area. I absolutely plan a return visit next time I am in Nor Cal.
I had driven by Jan's for almost 10 years before I ventured in. Â I stopped in on a Thursday night in March and have been there every Thursday night since. Â It was the first time I've ever participated in Karaoke and I was instantly hooked. Â The staff is friendly and the patrons are fun. Â The music selections sung range from country to rock. Â It's definitely a nice bar to check out if your contemplating trying to sing in public for the first time...everyone is very supportive and the rotations play through pretty quickly. Â Definitely a nice play to just let your hair down and hang out.
Review Source:Very friendly, clean bar with considerate and friendly staff. Â One of the best karaoke joints in the area. Â Older subset of clientele. Â "If it ain't Country Western music, it ain't music" philosophy reins here, for the most part.
Fried & frozen food menu, and its offerings are sufficient, especially when you're starving and only have booze in your stomach. Â :-)
Best of all (in my opinion), it doesn't have the "meat market" feel of many other drinking establishments. Â Live music on Fridays and Saturdays.
If you're over 30, I highly recommend it!
Another stop on our usual bike day travels..very nice inside, the crowd tends to be a bit older, which is fine, except my wife does not appreciate all of the cold stares she gets from the portly ladies perched at the bar (dont know if it is because we are a mixed couple, or because she is smoking hot...maybe both)  Drinks are priced well, shots tend to be poured a bit short, as do any mixed drinks.  It is a great place to meet someone for  a quiet drink.
Review Source:Fun little dive bar...and it's right next to La Placita (my favorite mexican restaurant).
It doesn't look like much from the outside, and I guess it really isn't much. But if you like dive bars, I would recommend Jan's.
The night I went they had a fun little cover band playing in the corner and there were a few people dancing.
The drinks were delicious and strong...just how I like them. It was fairly priced and a great place to get some drinks before heading to a show at The Boardwalk!
Great little neighborhood bar. Friendly, fun atmosphere, a menu that consists of bar snacks (pretty much stuff that can be thrown into a deep fryer, like mozzarella sticks), shuffle board, video games, and an outdoor covered patio for "all season smoking". They have live music here on Friday and Saturday nights, metal cover bands mostly from what the bartender told me, and Karaoke every other night.
Overall, this is a laid back neighborhood watering hole, one that makes you feel like you've been going there for years, even if you've only been there once. Yes, we will be back.
