This place is extremely cute and I love how warm and welcoming this place is...I love the concept and wish they had one in Vegas.
I only went for breakfast and had the Mexican Mocha, which was YUMMY! Â I wish I had more time to stay and linger. Â This is definitely a place I will come back and try in the evening time! Â Next time my rating will be five stars for sure if evening is similar to morning.
Visited on a mildly busy afternoon, still room at the bar and enough empty tables. Ordered 4 common mixed drinks-these took four times as long to make as they did to drink & came in small bar glasses-to the tune of $26.00. Did I mention 3 of the drinks were the same?....ah well, at least they tasted good. :)
Review Source:As a regular bar this is fine, but it's not exactly a wine bar. Â The staff have very little knowledge about the wines and I'm pretty sure they haven't tasted half of them. Â Compare that to Midtown and West St Wine Bars where you often have the owner there who knows everything about all the wines or even an employee that is very knowledgeable. Â I hear they just take Vino Jungle employees when they turn 21 and send them over to Jungle Vino. Â And you guessed it, they act like baristas. Â Here's your drink thanks, bye. Â They have NO personality and don't interact with customers unless you're they're hipster buddies who sit at the bar all night drinking cheap beer and getting free shots and generally acting like drunks. Â It's nice to have friends and sit in the cramped front area and share a bottle or just hang out. Â If you just want a beer, this bar is fine, but if you want wine, I'd suggest Midtown or W St Wine or even Whispering Vine or Napa Sonoma. Â The crowd is mostly young, hipster and they just drink cheap beer all night. Â If I wanted that, I'd go next door to THe Bar where I can at least play pool or talk to the bartender who doesn't act like a hipster barista. Â I appreciate the local art on the wall though.
Review Source:After finding the grasshopper in my salad at Pie Face Pizza Company, I admit going out to eat in downtown Reno has been a rare occurrence. Lately, I cringe at the thought of eating food prepared by anyone, except me.
However, eventually I had to be brave and venture out again. So, here is another review. A wine bar! It is like impossible to find bugs in here! And, it was! Whew!
I have been here several times, usually with the same person. The wine is always good. The services is also good. The bartender has a good personality. And, the atmosphere is good. Not great. But, I keep coming back. So, they are doing something right! I will say it can be slightly on the chilly side at times. Also, I don't think they validate parking, which is a bummer. We usually go here because West Street Wine bar ends up being closed whenever we feel like going out for wine. We must have odd hours!
Be sure to make it to their happy hour (whenever it is) because food and drinks are half off! I have ordered their veggie pizza from Java Jungle next door, and it was very good. Also, the cheesecake was to die for. *drool* Well, that about sums it up!
This is a great, cozy coffee shop in the downtown area, with a decent selection of coffees, blends, and pastries.
They have live music from local artists, along with nights that feature things like poetry or other performances, which is a refreshing thing to catch, especially if you know the artists, which many a time I have.
There's an outdoor seating area, which overlooks the river, along with the old Baptist church across the street. It's a nice atmosphere, especially in the summertime.
Inside, it can be a bit crowded during rush times, but during off-times, it's a nice place to study or just sit quietly and enjoy a nice latte and sandwich.
Downtown parking, as always, is obnoxious, but Java Jungle is one of those places that you tend to stop by while walking somewhere else, like from the movie theatre, so it's not a big detractor.
I came here again jan 16th &17th 2011 it's still wonderful! although they ran out of apple chai =( Â We order a flat liner which is coffee and chai mixed together. it's wonderful this time we ordered it with Vanilla chai.. it was still good. I also ordered a white mocha blended coffee. and it was delish as well.. whenever in the area I will make sure to come to Java jungle
Review Source:Great selection of wines that are rotated out on a consistent basis. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
This is the PERFECT place for a date, very small and intimate, has lots of specialty cocktails and weekly wine fights. Lots of great food is available from the coffee side next door, and they have cheese plates, ta pa's, and different snacks as well.
Fun place for people watching too as they have a very large front window that opens up to 1st street.
As stated in other reviews this is one of the smaller bars in Reno, while this is great for an intimate setting, it might not be the best place if you are looking for a large crowded bar/club.... but there are plenty of those downtown anyway...
I stopped in the other night while my nachos were cooking over on the coffee side of the establishment. Â The girl behind the bar was very pleasant and although I was just waiting for a To Go order she was more than gracious. Â One patron offered to let me sit down while I waited which I politely refused but was grateful for nonetheless. Â I imagine you can tell a great deal about a business by the people who go there.
Review Source:This is my husband's and my favorite date night destination! Â
The wine is always good. Since they have a variety of wines we usually ask the bartender for their recommendations and they always have great ones!...and the pizza is the best in town. Â
We love the quaint atmosphere and the location is great for taking walks along the river. Â
It is also my favorite stopping point on my way to the office for a great cup of coffee. Â One of my favorites is the Mexican Mocha which is hard to find at other coffee shops.
The staff is always friendly.
Ahhhh I feel so bad for doing this...
Java Jungle, please stop doing Oregon wine flights. Out of the three times my friends and I went (which we were going to make a habit of every week), two of them featured Oregon wines, and both times they were just bad. Bad. Like, the last red we had was like vinegar, bad.
Look, I'm not trying to act like a snob. My whole family enjoys wine, and one of my friends is getting his PhD in bio-chemistry involving grapes, and in his studies he has become a wine sommelier (he might take the test, even, but this was literally for his thesis, and required). Whatever you're picking, please stop.
We ended up not coming here anymore - we pick our own wines now and stay at home instead of braving another possible Oregon wine flight. The South Africa v. Argentina flights? Perfect. Don't deviate from that. Go international, or stop trying to pawn off all your old, remaining wine on your customers as a special just so you have a reason to get rid of it.
I don't come here often or regularly, but when I do I love it. Both the coffee house and bar are always adorned with amazing art from local artists. They usually participate in most town events (wine walks, pub crawls, etc.) Their prices are very fair, service is quick and everything is always clean, orderly, easy to find. The barristas and bartenders are also super helpful in recommendations if you're not quite sure what you're feeling up to and I'd say 9 times out of 10 their suggestions are always perfect. It's in a nice location and whenever I find myself near by, I always like to stop in for a drink. Kudos to Java Jungle/Vino!!!
Review Source:We finally tried the Jungle Vino wine bar and we loved it. Â Small but comfy with a good selection of wines and premium beers. Nice young ladies tending the bar (Wed. 6/24/09). We ordered a cheese platter, which was excellent and went well with our good wine. Â Will go back to Jungle Vino on future Reno trips.
Jungle Java is the coffee shop next door. Have occasionally stopped there for a good cup of coffee. Both Jungle Vino and Jungle Vino are usually participants in the Reno Wine Walk the third Saturday of every month. That's how we discovered them.
There is really nothing wrong with Jungle Vino expect that it is such a small area! Â I never have seen huge crowds in there, so that may not even be that big of a deal, actually. Â Every time I have gone there I was able to get a seat.
All of the times that I have been there, I've had the same bartender, and he is always super friendly! Â
I have never tried the food, but I've seen it prepared and it looks delicious! Â The wine list is huge, but also beer and mixed drinks are served.
Right next door Java Jungle, which is a stop on the wine walks.
Jungle Vino is a wine bar from the same people who brought Reno the Java Jungle coffee shop right next door. Jungle Vino is like the 32 year-old elder sibling of Java Jungle where the hipster kids grew up into indie-alt-quasi-yuppie proletariat Reno-types. Or something.
This may be the coolest bar and general hang-out in all of Northern Nevada. Being a wine bar, they have an extensive wine list, both by bottle and by the glass. Prices are reasonable ($6-15) for a glass of premium grape juice. But what was really cool is that they were also able to impress me, as a beer lover. They had four beers on tap, Firestone, Kona Lager, and a couple others. They had even more selection in bottles ranging from Wiehenstephaner to some limited edition Rogue stouts, which the bartender boasted as "the rarest beer offering in Reno". I don't really doubt him there. This place also serves some small tapas-type plates and sandwiches, which I didn't get to try. But they sure looked good on the menu.
In addition, what sold this place for me was the whole experience. It's a very small, narrow spot, with just a handful of tables and maybe 6-7 bar stools. The bartender and the customers were extremely friendly and nice and outgoing. The location is great in "new" downtown, right on the Truckee River. In the summer you can walk over to the Artown events at the river park next door. The White Stripes were playing in the background. What kind of wine bar has the White Stripes in the background? This wine bar does!
Overall, a job well-done. I will definitely be returning here on any future visits to the Biggest Little City in the World.
