Super small place, so you wont have a seat on a weekend, unless you get there pretty early. The drinks are poured pretty stiff, but nothing real fancy about this place, and it isnt "dive bar" cheap. The food is pretty good, nothing great. Definitely better mid-week for happy hour prices.

Not horrible though, and my wife really likes it. I've been about 10 times, and im sure we will go another 10 through out the years.

Alyssa is the bomb. She runs this place all on her own and never skips a beat. Thanks Alyssa we appreciate you!

Good food, horrible service. No greeting from a server until i went over and asked for menus, No waters to start with, no offer for refills, fries were unavailable at the time even though they're the standard side with the entrees, yet conveniently Mac and cheese was available for an extra couple bucks which of course wasn't mentioned. it's horrible when you leave a place hating life just as much as the waitress does telling by her service hah

This would have been a solid 2 star situation if it weren't for, of all things, a mistake by the management of the bar.

When closing by tab I got someone else's (nearly identical) card. Even the name was similar. Evidently someone else got my card and had already paid with it. The staff went into Incident Mobilization Mode and called the credit card company, somehow got the cardholder's number, called him, pulled back all the charges, charged me nothing, and got me my card back.

Had that not happened I would have had a pretty foul experience that night. I'm just too cheap for this kind of place. I'll be back, though, when I get a massive raise, or when someone else is paying.

Came here last night just for drinks. Nice and strong. Not as cheap as dive bar drinks, but the quality is good. They had a band playing Bob Marley songs. The crowd was 90% middle aged drunk white guys.

Can't disagree with the service complaints.  Went there @ 1:30 pm and the bartender was the waitress.  Service was still slower than normally should be, with food waiting while bartender Bull******* with regulars.  Tough to go back to, except the food was exceptional!!  Great sized portions with very good flavor.  The Stars are for the food.

TJ McCutchins has a sports bar atmosphere with better than average bar food.

JD Salingers has a little bit of outdoor seating and one flatscreen outside.

JG Wentworth's has lots of daily specials.

One of my favorite daily Happy Hour specials at AJ Spumoni's is the sliders.

On slider night at PD Eastman's they have a fixin's bar.

Come to think of it, at HR Puff n' Stuffs they may have the fixin's bar all the time.

We have been here to MJ Tolkein's probably 5 or 6 times and my wife still calls it something different every time, hence the many references to KD Burelli's.

Anyway, look for upscale bar food and sports bar atmosphere at JK Rowling's!

j.d.'s is a little bar in downtown upland. kinda small but the bar seats about 10 and there are 5-10 little tables plus outside patio seating. when the lemon festival comes to town in late april the patio is prime real estate. it boasts a full bar with reasonable prices and a decent happy hour and the food is surprisingly good.

Food, bar, fights. It's not that simple I guess. Not when you're being stared down by the owner at the bar while he is drinking a beer and watching the televisions. Me and my boyfriend came here to watch the last Anderson Silva fight, and it was definitely a dissapointment. They don't even know what time it starts, even though it's their main attraction. The waitress was gushing for some airhead who could not stop harassing her, seriously. She was ignoring me (a female client) as I spoke to her, she simply looked away at my boyfriend and says, "sorry what were you saying?" B, please. Come on, I understand you have to make tips, but not like that. There was an elderly man at the bar who also kept trying to get her attention, and of course she was completely unaware. I could've walked out of their without paying, and I should've because she wasn't even paying attention to us. I had tap water, which she squeezed lemon in with her own nasty little hands. I told her please, get me another glass, and I will do that. She looked oddly surprised. No, not everyone likes nastiness.  We had wings which were just wings. I had ordered garlic cheese bread and it never came in. I said cancel it because I'm sure you weren't even listening for my order or just forgot. Service is excruciatingly painful. Unless you come in here with your c o ck hanging out, you'll enjoy yourself. Too bad I don't have one, I am a woman with respect for herself. Nice little area, you would think it would be a lot classier.

This place is horrible. The bar itself is nice looking, but the service is soooo bad!
The food is good, but good luck getting it. It takes forever. I came in and sat down, in full view of the bar and the 3 women working there and it took 20mins before they said a word to me! The place needs more table waitresses, the girls behind the bar try to service the bar patrons and the tables and it's too much. Some of the characters in there are a little shady as well. Mostly skin head types and older men trying to score on young women. Definitely not the classy place they think they are. You're better off going to downtown Claremont or Victoria Gardens to get a drink.

Really good food and drink specials but only 3 stars because the service is unbelievably slow and not friendly. Good location though. I've still gone back multiple times despite the service because of the location and food/drinks.

I found this sweet little bar about a year ago and continue to find myself going there a lot. I read other reviews on here about poor service, but I wonder if those reviewers are just anal about everything. You have to remember this isn't olive garden where you have a waiter standing by your table ready cover your sneeze. This is a bar, but not just any bar, its a bar that happens to serve really good food. Come in, order a drink, relax and the servers will serve you just fine. The managers and bar tenders are always very friendly and the vibe is always chill. In fact, part of the reason I love going here is because of how nice the bartenders are.
If I am going to recommend some tasty beverages and food items well these are our favorite picks.  I love JD's cause they always have Pomona Queen on tap and that is my favorite beer to drink. If your a chick and your looking for a really good cocktail that is not your typical martini, you should order the Champeach Martini, this little drink is really really good. As far as food choices, Thursday nights they do $5 steak dinner with mash potatoes and a side salad, you just need to do the easy thing of having a two drink minimum. They also have a killer salad called the Cajun Buffalo Chicken salad that uses grilled chicken and is super good, pretty spicy though, but I love spice. They have good burgers, sashimi sandwich etc.......

All in all go check it out. Sweet bar, in a cool building with a nice downtown Upland vibe.

You should really give this place a try for a girls afternoon or just lunch with friends or dinner during the week. Yes on the weekends it can get very crowded and the patrons can be annoying, but during the week in the afternoon for lunch is really nice!

Amazing buffalo wings, really good salads(loveee the downtown cobb, with champagne vinagrette, and the blue cheese wedge).

Pomona Queen has been on tap lately and I'm a big fan of darker beers.

Oh and even the ahi here doesn't disappoint.

Live music during the week :)

The food is good but it's definitely not worth the wait and aggravation.  I've been in this place about six times and in five out of those six times, the service was absolutely horrible.  The owners don't seem to care about complaints from patrons or the bad reviews they get for the abysmal service that never gets better.  The cook(s) have one speed, slow and slower, and the servers are few and far between.  If you trip a server as she flies by your table, you might get her attention.  Otherwise, forget it and try to find a tic tac in your purse to keep your stomach from feeding on itself until your food gets to your table.  If you are one to get your panties in a bunch when you are ignored by your server for 45 minutes to an hour, then save yourself the grief and find a place that has good food and good service.

Talk about a U-high reunion. This place is full of locals. No dress code. People show up in swim trunks and tank tops. Its fun, but VERY small and loud when there is music. It can be a fun vibe when you go with the right people but if you want to be able to talk, go elsewhere.

Sooooo my friend and I are servers so we are the easiest customers ever!! But the last couple times I went here food was awesome but service was terrible... We r young so I'm sure people assume we aren't good tippers but like I said we r servers so u know what they say about when u ASSume :) anyways, we sat ourselves cus no one greeted us or said they would be with us and we didn't see menus so we figured someone would bring us some... There were 2 girls working one was sitting down talking to customers at the bar ( she might hAve been off ) and the other was just behind the bar chit chatting we thought she was busy so we waited 10 mins later I got up and asked if there was someone to take care of us... She brought us menus got us 2 diet cokes took our order ( we ordered chips n salsa and a quesadilla) food didn't take long but it sat at the window for another 10 mins while we hungrily stared hoping she would notice it was ready...she finally brought us our food said enjoy tried to walk away and then I said " excuse me can we please get refills?" since our diet cokes were empty :( anyways we were ignored she brought the bill it was around 20$ I think we left a 5 cus I would never stiff someone but I think my friend might have left her a little note because she was extremely disappointed :/ sooo that was my last experience I will say it was a little while ago maybe that server isn't there anymore or maybe she was having an off day but we really didn't appreciate getting ignored especially since as a server I love hooking hard working waitresses up :)) hopefully things have gotten better! And the food is yummy!

They usually have 2-3 good choices on tap. The food is just ok, but the have good daily special deals (ie cheap hot dog bar on Thurs nights). I also like their Bloody Mary bar on Sundays. Mainly though, I come here here because they have enough TVs to play all the football games on Sunday. And they usually aren't too crowded. So I'm a pretty happy gal.

Yes, this will be somewhat biased, but yes you should still try this place out.

I don't know if there is any other place I would consistently rather go to that JD Allison's, be it for food or drink or enjoying an evening with friends. It is not a fine-dining restaurant, though the food is always good. It is not a watering hole for a collection of drunkards, though it is a bar with a lot of regular customers. It somehow straddles the line between both though.

To be honest, I've been coming to JDs since it opened due to the fact that I had friends who bartended there. Even still, the first thing I ever ate there was the tuna sandwich and I STILL remember it being awesome. I've eaten here many times since though lately all I get is the two chicken tacos from the appetizer menu, those things are fat and fill me up. There are always specials going on, from the Slider Bar Mondays to Spaghetti Feed Wednesdays, plus the live music from Kim Martin Band or CT Trio make JD Allison's a truly unique bar/restaurant in Upland.

Yes, I'm biased a little bit, but at the same time I truly do think it's one of the better places to enjoy lunch or have a beer or a cocktail in the entire Inland Empire, and the rumblings that they might open a second location have only made me more excited. Do yourself a favor and try it out; it is worth it.

The food is really good, the drinks are amazingly strong, the servers are so friendly and they are your bar tender too which explains why the drinks are so good. It great to hang out with friends or stop in and have a family dinner with the kids before or after you visit the upland street fair. A really cute place that goes above and beyond prove lil business can make it.

I went here one night by myself as I had to wait for Robin (she does my braids) to show up at her shop for me to get the hair done.

I ordered the "Allison's Signature Rutherford Valley Salad" a delicious combination of  herbed potatoes, goat cheese, mesculin greens, chicken and dried cranberries it is served with a Champagne Vinaigrette. This salad smells good and LOOKS visually perfect. I met 2 people while I was sitting there and had great conversation listening to 80's tunes. I had a glass of Pinot Grigio but it was like pulling teeth to get her to respond to what kind of white wines they offered. JEESH LOUISE

My peeve and the reason why it's getting only 3 stars is the SERVICE sucked. The bartender wasn't even that busy but she managed to NOT make eye contact with me and make me wait to place my order while she washed glasses and chatted with the guys at the bar. Smooth move sister you just chatted your way out of at least a 20% tip and got your establishment a less than glowing review =/

If you can order take out here then I recommend it as the food I hear is consistently delicious just don't go and expect great service unless you are a guy... I am guessing on this last observation (sigh)

    ======================================================
    Update: 2/2011

Fast forward three years and the place has lost its luster.  IMHO, here's why:

    1.  The bar's primary owners (husband & wife): at least one of them always seems to be there smashed and obnoxious.  Tip: It's a business, not a high school keggar at your house, and not everyone is there to see you.

    2.  The bar next door (2nd St. Saloon) opened and took away the diverse crowd, now it's mostly just old locals, friends of owners and riffraff.

    3.  Cheryl - they recently fired their most beautiful and kind bartender.  She had been there from the beginning and everybody loved her.

    4.  This place also gets overwhelmed pretty easily, so if you are not sitting at the bar and need a drink on a Fri/Sat night....faagettabbout it!

    5.  This place (and next door) has attracted some pretty low class characters to Upland's downtown nightlife.  They're mostly skinheads, wannabe UFC fighters or other kinds of human wastes of space losers mad at the world for their shortcomings, so they're looking to start a fight.  It can be pretty annoying.

ON a positive note, the food is still pretty decent, considering it is a bar; and the waitresses are pretty attentive to your needs, when the place isn't too packed.

Really cute place! The food is AMAZING! Like the other reviewer said - the calamari is really, really great and unique. I would recommend trying either of the pasta dishes, chicken or Italian sausage. I can't decide which one is my favorite!
It has more of a bar atmosphere than a restaurant, but it's homey and I feel comfortable taking my kids there to eat at any hour.
Oh and Ladies the women's restroom is the best I've seen! I know that sounds weird but nasty bar bathrooms are just a huge pet peeve of mine.

I've been to JD's a handful of times.  I really want to love this place because it has so much potential and I like the whole downtown local scene but, the service is pretty lousy.
The food is good.  I especially like their version of calamari.  It has an orange marmalade/ginger taste to it.  It's served with a creamy type of  wasabi/horseradish and soy sauce for dipping.  It's very good and actually the only reason I keep going back.  To be honest, I tried (& did not succeed) to make it on my own so I could enjoy the food but, skip the lousy service that I've experience ALL times while going to JD's.
Their martini's are good.  My favorite...Brookie's Cookie but they no longer have it on their menu and for some reason no one there seems to remember how to make it!  Ugghhhh!!!

Good food at decent prices. My husband and I went here and got lunch for $25 total. We went on a Saturday afternoon. It was quiet and there were only about 15 people in the place. It's small, so it's probably not the place for a huge gathering. It would be fine for kids, and we saw an XBox 360 hook up - so maybe it's kid friendly too :-)

Real cool bar, that has a Cheers feel to it. The crowd was not very diverse but everyone was nice. They had a live band, and even the bartender even jumped on the mic and showered us with an impromptu performance. The owner of the bar was there and seemed really nice and interacted with his patrons as if he was one of them.

The staff was real cool and the bartenders were real nice. If I lived in the area this would definitely be my local bar. The drink prices were reasonable and it was overall a real cool spot. They serve food, but the kitchen closes at midnight.

I came here around November on a Saturday night, aboout 10:30.

We were looking for a bar with some possible lady action going on and we all live in Upland so we wanted to check out the downtown scene. We get here and walk inside. The bar is semi small and they DON'T DO PITCHERS! Yuck. They had a DJ playing (a female) and she was awful. She was playing a lot of bad disco and early 90's music and it was nasty to listen to. The place had a few families in there eating too so it was a bit awkward being there with drinking buddies surrounded by kids 11 at night.

This place tries to be an all around go-to joint for the downtown goers, but it falls short in several areas. Not quite a great bar, not quite a lounge, not quite a restaurant (oh yeah, they do food too), and the service was pretty poor. I mean maybe 10 tables, 3 waitress', and it took 15 minutes for someone to get to us. Seriously?

I wouldn't go back there again.

I've been coming here for about a year now on and off. The place is a neighborhood bar that allows you to just chill out and get away from everyone. The waitress are nice and friendly from time to time. I was talking to one of the waitress and she told me that she still has friends that she met in elementary, junior high, and high school that still comes in. This tells you a lot about the bar and the patrons.

I'm a fan of small bars with lot of personality.

This place wants to be your neighborhood go-to bar.

Walking in, I first noticed the open kitchen, then the L-shaped bar that seats maybe 15 people, and plenty of TVs for the sports fanatic.  It seems like a cross between an upscale sports bar, lounge, and a California Pizza Kitchen with all the contemporary amenities.

We sat ourselves at an open table.  Our server seemed really dedicated to her job.  Service was curt and she didn't seem like she wanted to chit-chat as we asked her why the Old Baldy Brewery next door closed down, but didn't get an answer.

We ordered Pomona Queen, which is similar to a Killian's Red, on draft.  Happy hours run from 3-7pm and each of our pints cost about $3.79.

We were in luck as they had $1 tacos yesterday.  You tell your server how many tacos everyone can eat, she gives you tickets, then you take it to the guy serving tacos at the kitchen counter.  There are also plenty of hot sauces, cilantro, onions, tomatoes, salsa, and other condiments for your  tacos.  You have to hurry as last call for tacos end around 8pm, but varies because the sign says, "$1 Taco Tuesdays!  3pm - ?"  Ooh.  The question mark makes it so mysterious like party invitations.

Tuesdays - $1 Taco Night (tiny 3" diameter tortillas)
    Wednesdays - Karaoke Night
    Friday - DJ
    Saturday - Live Music

Read below, and I am that friend that Rebecca T. just mentioned. Nothing's more fun that dropping in a bar after a lovely dinner with my saucy friend who just fell in love with the cheap Stella beers. Now, I had my fill of lemonades, so I can't speak of the booze or the food. However, the nightlife is here. I can tell you this for certainty, because I can hear it night after night as I try to sleep and the drunk women are screaming due to one too many shots. Also noteworthy are the copious amount of plasma screens which will keep your eyes busy until the next hottie drops by. Yeah, that right, we'll be back, so keep your eyes on that door for us.
