I finally went in for some take out. Â The place definitely needs a facelift, it was Saturday and it was super casual, kinda hole in the wallish type place. Â I like that you can dip in there real casual, just looking for some good deli. Â I ordered pastrami, it was hot, lean and my husband was impressed. Â I took home some rye bread, it was soft, fresh. Â The chicken noodle hit the spot and they had an assortment of knishes and other delicacies....I'm not a sable or whitefish person, but for someone who is, I can't see this place not being able to offer up the goods. Â I'm not sure about the bagels, I just moved from ny and am very critical....but they have my vote on their take out food. Â Expensive, yes....maybe with a lil remodeling, you can justify price more in your head.....but they were busy...so why fix it if its not broken???.
Review Source:I popped into Jerry & Harvey's two Saturdays ago for the first time in twenty-plus years, and I've been back twice since.  It's a beautiful place in the figurative sense because it opens at 8 a.m., and anywhere I can get my Sloppy Joe on at that hour is first rate in my book.  It's a beautiful place in the literal sense because the deli case is loaded with amazing offerings, from smoked fish  to meatloaf.  Sable on a hot, fresh bagel with a schmear?  Check.  No, checkmate. Â
Personally, I'm inclined to prefer the sandwiches down the road at Fred and Murry's, if for no other reason than that they're bigger and slightly cheaper (though I think the ingredients are a slight cut above here). Â I guess it's a matter of taste. Â I am a fan of the way they slice the turkey breast very thick, and how it feels and tastes more like Thanksgiving leftovers than something processed. Â On the other hand, I like my corned beef and pastrami very fatty, and they seem to tend more toward lean at this establishment. Â But, they're more generous with the pickles. Â It's really a toss-up, unless you're looking for Kosher, which this place is not.
At any rate, it's a fine establishment and very worthy of your patronage. Â Don't listen to people who try to sound worldly and subtly insult you by ranting about "suburban delis", how it used to be back in the old countr..., er, Brooklyn, or how Harold's buries you under a dumpster load of sub-par meat. Â Jerry & Harvey's has been here for a very long time, and there is a good reason.
I have no idea what the hype is all about. As a Brooklyn native, this is a decent suburban deli. The corned beef is not even the right size - half the size it should be and like 1/4 the size of a Harolds sandwich. The bread is not soft. The pastrami doesnt soak thru the bread. Its cold. If you are from Jersey, fine, go here. If you are from Brooklyn or Manhattan and are looking for something that resembles Stage or Katzs, take the ride to Harolds, or Stage or Katzs.
It was decent so Im giving it two stars but if you compare it to a real deli Id give it 1.
Yummy! I had the Corned Beef Sandwich. It comes with complimentary pickles but I don't care for pickles that much. The sandwich was really good...not too little and not too much corned beef. The sandwich also comes with a coleslaw. The coleslaw wasn't drenched so it was the perfect amount.
The service is fine. The waitress came by to check on us and see if were ok. It was pretty quick too.
There's a lot of selections here and I'll definitely come back.
HOW does this place only have one review??? This  place is AMAZING. They have some of the best bagels I've ever had (here's looking at you, New York bagels) and the tuna salad and pickles are so amazeballs (my girlfriend's word, not mine) that we take some  of them back to the West coast with us (6+ hours in transit) and it is STILL soooooo tasty!
Anyway, you HAVE to try this place if you haven't been here; it's very old-school Jewish deli food. The wait-staff are no-nonsense and not super friendly, but they will definitely take care of you. The owner was around chatting with customers and he seemed like a really nice guy. The decor of the restaurant is a little dated and it could use more light, so it is definitely a no-frills kind of place, but has its own charm.
So how about the food? I haven't tried the sandwiches, but I sure will next  time. You already know my opinion on the tuna salad, bagels, and pickles, but we were also here for breakfast recently. They have pretty awesome deals, and the portions are VERY generous. My girlfriend's mom also picks up some other stuff for all of us to enjoy when we visit, like nova salmon, white fish spread and egg salad, and now that I've finally been here, I definitely plan to go back for more. Anyway, this place gets my super-enthusiastic review! Great job guys!
Wow, A real Jewish Deli.....Brooklyn style. Stumbled on to this one. They have been here for 25 years. I just never saw them. Had a pastrami on rye sandwich and it was so gooooooood!!! They brought out complimentary dill pickles to nibble on. They have everything here even a salad bar. Oy Vey I will be back!!!!!!!
