I suffered through the wait once with a friend and it was almost worth the wait. Wasn't that busy and still took over 30 minutes to get our meal. The next trip I had to leave because it took so long. 30 minutes and nothing. The final attempt I had arrived alone at 11:20am and asked if I could be seated at a 4 seater since I had my laptop for business. There were only two other people seated. The greeter said no. I said goodbye. Last time I'll try. The only sandwich I had was great. Just trying to get one is tough.
Review Source:Food was great, and server was very personable but SLOW, but I think the kitchen was mostly to blame (not enough cooks?) Huge menu, almost too many choices, save yourself some time and review the menu online, and order when you fist see the server. I'd go again, but not if on a timeline. Highly recommend the pork roll sandwich. Arrival to departure was 60 min. BTW - we're from south jersey, and we approve!
Review Source:I was disappointed in the overall experience, sadly. Â Friends had talked the place up so my husband and I decided to give the place a try. Â We tried going for a nice, easy Sunday night dinner but when we arrived, they were closed. Â Okay, we thought. Â We would try again later in the week. Â We went back during the week and arrived about 8p to give it another shot. Â We were quickly rushed out the door by a server because they were closing. Â We found that to be odd. Â Admittedly, 8p is late for us to eat dinner but we had both worked a little late that evening. Â We certainly didn't think 8p was too late for a restaurant that serves dinner to be open. Â So, we left with what became our mission to try this restaurant; the suspense of whether the place is as good as our friend said building. Â It wasn't until last weekend, a Saturday at 3p, in fact, we finally made it back. Â And they were open. Â We walked into the door immediately greeted by a line of people and a restaurant full of other patrons who also wanted to eat at 3p on a Saturday. Â So now we're becoming increasingly more convinced this place has got to be good. Â We learned the place was featured on "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" from reading the scores of memorabilia on the walls (and that they really love Bon Jovi) so now we couldn't wait to try the food. Â But as we stood in line for about 10 min and the hostess hadn't bothered to greet us yet or the two couples who joined our line since our arrival, I was starting to get annoyed. Â Finally two of the five people in front of us got seated and our line finally moved up about 20 min into our arrival. Â It was from this vantage point I could see three empty tables on one side of the restaurant sitting there. Two of the tables had not been cleared and one two-seater table, oddly arranged in the middle of heavy foot traffic, was actually clean! Â I couldn't believe that we all stood there in line as servers and bus boys continued to walk by these tables repeatedly for another 10 minutes before one of the tables was finally cleaned and the group in front of us was seated. Â Those of us who remained in line watched a heavy bustle of servers walking in all directions with food and drink but no one cleared the one dirty table or even bothered to greet us yet! Finally, one server asked how many in our party, looked around, then told us she needed to check on something. Â She disappeared into the back for a solid 3 minutes, came out, made her way to the server station and started rolling silverware! Â No, "Someone will be right with you," or, "We'll get you set up soon," or nothing. Â Just ignored us. Â We waited longer for a different server to greet us and ask if anyone has taken our name. Â We told her no and she seated us at the oddly-situated two-seater that had been clean and empty since we arrived. Â As servers ran into our chairs, my purse, and my husband's shoulders, they finally decided to clean off that third table that had been dirty since we arrived and let us sit out of the primary walking path (moments later, they moved the two-seater off to what appeared to be a former entrance to the restaurant near the bathrooms and the unlucky couple behind us had to sit there). Â From this point, the server who waited on us seemed to make up for some of the bad experience in her prompt and courteous service. Â But the food later delivered we both thought was only mediocre and certainly wasn't enough to cause us to consider ever returning. Â The portions are ridiculously huge and the prices reasonable for the amount of food you get but in my opinion, these factors aren't worth the trouble of trying the place (just enough to give it two stars).
Review Source:Be prepared to wait. Â After the wait you can then dive into one of their tasty and generously sized sandwiches. Â I have never ordered anything but a cheesesteak, but the other food coming out of the kitchen looks amazing. Â Be sure to check their hours of operation because they change.
Review Source:Like many folks, we discovered Jersey's Cafe thanks to Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. Â We visit family in Indy regularly so made it a point to stop for lunch last weekend and pay tribute to our Jersey roots.
The food is definitely four star quality, the service is not. Â We stopped for a late lunch and were seated almost immediately at a little table crammed in the corner. Â We caught the end of the lunch crowd so the place was clearing out and not too busy. Â However, service was slow and the food took FOREVER! Â What should have been a quick and easy lunch, turned into two hours of mostly waiting.
The menu is huge (according to our server, John, it used to be twice the size!). Â My husband ordered a regular cheese steak with cheese and grilled onions. Â I opted for the Trenton Roll since finding Taylor Ham aka pork roll on a menu in the Midwest is rare. Â The portions were huge and reasonably priced ($8-9 for our sandwiches). Â
The cheese steak was great and one of the most authentic East Coast versions I have found. Â The pork roll was a pretty good rendition too. Â It was thick cut and sliced the Jersey way. Â I was disappointed it wasn't browned a little more. Â It was topped with a ton of white American cheese, sauteed onions and red peppers. Â It was actually brought out without the onions and peppers, which our server noticed when he set it down.
The sandwiches come with your choice of sides - red skin potato salad, cole slaw, mustard potato salad, etc. Â My husband loved the mustard potato salad, but I thought it was run of the mill. Â The cole slaw was good, but too much mayonnaise for my liking.
Our server was friendly, but service was sooo slow! Â Once we placed our order, it took over 45 minutes for the food to come out. Â They were also slow on drink refills, bringing the check and cashing us out. Â Definitely room for improvement!
I was in the area and had seen this place like everyone else on DD&D, so decided to give it a try.
The first impression was not good, the place was not very busy maybe a 1/3rd full. Â The hostess/waitress started to take us to a table that was stuffed in a corner against the wall and right next to a very full table.
We asked if we could sit at a different table and saw a 4 top in the other corner, which had 3 chairs, there was two of us. Â The hostess/waitress hesitated and told us "no" that she was worried they might get busy and would need the table! Â I almost left at that moment, how rude! Â The place is not even half full, we are there now! Â
The sandwich was great! The potato salad was disgusting GFS type from a package, would have preferred a nice pickle or something of better quality. Â Our waitress could use some training in being more polite and professional. Â If I lived in the area I might go here again, but since I don't I will probably give someplace else a try, mainly because of how the hostess/waitress treated us.
Interesting, while we were eating the place did not get busier. Also then a party of three came in a they set them at a 6 top.........but it was another staff member not the same person we had
I was in the area so I decided to have lunch here. Wow talk about slow service, it took more than 30 minutes for them to serve my meatloaf sandwich and they were not even busy. It also wasn't just me, I noticed a few other customers who came in after me and they also had to wait a long time for their food. It's a good meatloaf sandwhich, with red sauce topped with mac n cheese, but it is not that good and certainly not worth that long of a wait. They have a pretty extensive sandwhiches and sides menu, but nothing really super special or extraordinary. They even have one specific that has the list of items featured in the Food Network DDD show. Maybe thats why theres a deck of playing cards on each table, so you can entertain yourself while you wait for your order. I hope they were just having a bad afternoon and the slow service is not their norm.
Review Source:I saw this on DD&D and I have a thing where I must go everywhere I can that Fieri has been, so we made the 35 minute trip from Indy to visit here.
The menu was huge and service was quick. Not a *huge* meat eater, but went with the Wildwood (hold the Bleu Cheese) and Cole Slaw because when in Rome...
The sandwich was huge, but I still managed to fold that sucker up and eat it with my hands, however messy and unattractive it was.
The Wildwood is the sandwich from DD&D, Meatball Marinara meets Cheesesteak! It was delicious, and the homeade cole slaw was great too although I prefer my cole slaw more thick and less liquidy. For a casual sandwich cafe, they have some really nice coffees available and delicious Salt Water Taffy treats for a quarter!
While I was there, they had a relief aid for Sandy and it was packed with items, seeing as how they're a New Jersey based cafe. It's the little things like that that also inspire me to come back and try something new!
Went here with a group of 6 coworkers and recalled seeing it on DD&D as the show portrayed it well. Â Â It was worth the trip for sure! Â I had the Wildwood Sandwich-an interesting combo of meatball meets cheese steak (combine meatballs with a smooth marinara sauce and cheesesteak)-that was just the right amount of toasted bread and melted cheese.
The sandwich was worth the price-it's a cut in half and still eat in a "haunch" position deal, but that's part of the fun! Â Terrific sandwich and practically everything on the menu sounded good and everyone else enjoyed their food.
As per the more recent reviews, this is not fast food. Â Comments on service I can see, but our waitress was very accommodating for our party-7 coworkers and as it was my turn to pay, I had to ask for an itemized bill. Â She hand-wrote the bill on their green-lined restaurant order tab-much appreciated! Â The place is also very clean and the decor is great-they definitely put thought into it and the owner is proud of his roots!
The next stop on my Triple D tour of the Indy Metro area landed me at Jersey's Cafe in Carmel. I must agree with the other Yelpers...the service is VERY SLOW, but considering the quality of the food here it's well worth the wait! I decided to forego the bleu cheese and have the Cherry Hill Cheese steak, a delicious monster of a sandwich it is a perfectly cooked steak (with all the juices from the pan drizzled on top), followed by a generous portion of the chef's grandmother's meatballs and a rich red sauce, topped with provolone and oregano! All I could say was Oh my my my after the first bite! Everyone MUST GO!!!
Review Source:Wish I would have read the other Yelp reviews before going. Â
I really wanted to love this place. Â I heard about it from DD&D, saw it in the paper, and had many friends that rave about it. Â The truth for me is this:
- The service was slow (even on a non-busy day, it took us 40 minutes after ordering to get our food).
- The food was a mixed bag. Â My cheesesteak was good, my wife's chicken salad was bland, and the kids meals (chicken nuggets) were awful.
- The kids meals were expensive - $6 for a few chicken nuggets that look like they came out of the freezer, potato chips (and not even the homemade ones) and a small drink.
Bottom line: some good menu items, but more expensive for a family than other similar places, and not worth the time.
I had the Dallas Cowgirl Cheesesteak (steak, banana peppers, pepper jack cheese, barbeque sauce) and it was delicious. My family of four waited an hour and ten minutes for food. I'll go back, but during an off-peak time. Avoid at dinner time on a Saturday night--the food isn't worth waiting that long.
Review Source:The service here is VERY SLOW! Don't eat here if you are in ANY kind of a hurry. The food is really good though, so I guess if you look at it as though it takes time for perfection; then it is kind of ok.
I had the "ELI" and it was delicious. There are hundreds of sandwiches on the menu. You're sure to find one you will like.
We went here because we had seen it on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives on the Food Network. Â The food was not bad, the service was slow. Â But I guess they are known to be slow, apparently they make every thing from scratch and to order. Â I like my sandwich, the FDNY a spicy cheese steak sandwich. Â The men in our group that got Italian sandwiches thought they were too bland. Â My daughter got a pork sandwich and thought it was bland too. Â My grandsons chicken nuggets were fantastic!! Â I would try it again as it was good, but not great. Â Maybe they were having an off day.
Review Source:Wanted to love it, but...Ate their today with 4 others. None of us were impressed except for the loaded chips, which were excellent. The italian sausage in the Fughetaboutit was had a weird taste to it and the speghetti on the sandwich didn't flow well.
Service was slow. It took us 1 hour and 40 minutes for lunch with it not that busy.
Read a menu on line before going. Â Over a hundred sandwiches to choose. Â We went on a rainy afternoon when family was in town and it was packed. Â no problem just waited a little more longer for our food, but we played Euchre at the table to kill time. Apparently, when the reruns of Dine ins and Dives come on it will get hit soon after and there is usually a wait. Â We like it and would recommend splitting some sandwiches unless you are really hungry.
Review Source:I went in with very high expectations. Â The food was ok, and service was slow. Â There was nothing that said to me "this place should be on TV". Â We were seated at 12:03 and left at 1:10. Â Unfortunately they were not busy at all, and the sandwiches were no more detailed than something from Penn Station. Â Probably wont be back.
Review Source:Not sure what happened to this place. Â The food was barely average. Â We made a special trip in October to eat lunch at this place and we were very disappointed. Â Way to many things on the menu to even begin to understand what you should order. Â Wait staff could not suggest anything, and didn't even have a couple of personal favorites to offer as guidance.
Review Source:OM NOM NOM NOM NOM. ASIAN SEAL OF APPROVAL.
Please ask yourself: Do you want FRESH, AMAZING tasting food, with an east-coast style, with 50++ choices and massive amounts of customization, that's been validated by the Food Network?
GO HERE. Â It's fantastic!
***Don't look at the critical reviews saying it takes sooo long to get your food.***
THAT BEING SAID... even though it's a casual environment, give yourself enough time as you would for a sit-down restaurant. They make it fresh, none of this reheating business that you get at other places.
Besides, when did you ever get excellent tasting food when it only took you 2 minutes to make?
One more warning, this is a place you take your bros... not your new girlfriend. I'd mayyybe take a girl here for a very very casual date, or if she was a foodie. Â
-I arrived at 7pm on a Friday night with 2 of my buds. Â We wanted "man-food", if you catch my drift, and we heard about this on the Food Network. (Yes, here in Carmel.)
-It was ~85-90% capacity, and we were seated within 1 minute by a waitress.
-Took us 10 minutes to figure out what we wanted cause there were 50++ choices! (Seriously. Â Nearly everything sounded fantastic.) Â Our waitress was fantastic at getting us refills, and super nice- we all tipped her nicely at the end of the dinner.
-We ordered a FUGHETABOUTIT!, THE ELI #10, and a special they had that night. Here's a picture of our food: http://www.yelp.com/biz_… (yes, we asked for a fried egg on our sandwiches. No joke.)
-Took ~33 minutes to get our food, BUT, there was a deck of cards on the side by the salt-shaker, so my buddies decided to play a few games of blackjack while we waited. Â Besides, we had time to kill. Â
-We received our food, and it looked & smelled SO GOOD. Â
-We almost sat in silence after our 3 initial "mmmmmmmmmm! this is amazing" phrases because we couldn't stop eating the food. Â
We devoured huge subs within 15 minutes. Â
My opinion? Â BEST. TASTING. SUB. I've EVER had- and I've lived in New Jersey!
If you think Penn Station, Subway or Quizno's is the definition of a "good sub" Â you've been wrong your entire life. Â
When you got time to spare, go to this Food Network credited place. With a drink, and a custom added fried egg (haha), my bill was $15 + tip.
I honestly would consider moving up to Carmel just for this place.
You think I'm joking?? Â Go try it yourself you noob.
I am really torn about this place. The sandwiches are some of the best I have ever eaten. They are tasty, large, and fresh. Franchise worthy!!!!
BUT, I cringe every time I think about going there because it takes 2 hours to order, get your sandwich, and pay your bill. This would be ok for a special dining experience - but for a sandwich - ?????? Â I've tried to call for takeout and showed up when they said they would be ready and still had to wait 30 minutes plus. I think they must have one 90 year old sandwich chef in the kitchen and he only makes sandwiches between naps.
With that said, I keep going back and I guess if I didn't have to wait so long I would go back more often and would weigh 300 pounds. Boy am I craving a Dallas Cowgirl Cheesesteak!!! Â See you there complaining about the wait along with everyone else wanting a great sandwich.
After reading the other reviews of this place, I get it. I'm now in on the deal. Jersey's Cafe is a Jersey themed restaurant and the owners have decided that to get a true feel for what they see as Jersey culture, they're rude, slow and try to make customers angry. This being said, Jersey Cafe is all that and more.
Review Source:How did I miss this place? Â After spending lots of time in Carmel last year, I seriously can't believe we've never been. Â
They serve mostly lunch fare with NJ and Philly related themes. Â Being from Jersey makes it difficult to order any of the Philly menu items, but there are plenty of Jersey choices so I won't have to. Â I ordered the Basking Ridge, the closest to my hometown. Â Part of the sandwich ended up on the table, so prepare to break all your table manners.
The only gripe I have about this place is the lunch fare with dinner wait times. Â Don't expect to grab a quick bite. Â Expect to wait and block out at least 1 - 1.5 hours.
4 stars for the ridiculous amounts of food, but 1 off for the wait. Â If you're from Jersey don't forget to sign the board.
My long awaited revisit to this media engorged cafè has finally come! Curiosity, more than anything, has driven me back thinking, hey wait a minute did I miss something the first time? By "the first time" I mean that I was there once, before our national tour guide Guy Fieri made his appearance and created a monster. A monster with signs outside reading, not exactly, but in so many words, "Because we are now famous you WILL wait!"
I have to admit, my first visit to Jersey's was pretty uneventful. I had a blah sandwich and never thought to go back. Now with the buzz I had to see what all the noise was all about. So I packed my kids in the Golf Cart, yes I said Golf Cart ( impulse purchase & story for another time LOL), and headed on the trek from 116th & Ditch Road to 136th & Meridian. Thank god for Carmel's huge sidewalks!! I have to say I was kind of excited to try the traditional Philly whiz wit that seems to be all the craze. We settled in and began getting overwhelmed by the huge selection of Subs on the menu. I shook my head, cleared my mind and like a sniper exhaling before his squeeze of the trigger, I zoomed in on my target, the 9th & Â Passyunk Cheese steak. Don don daaa! I ordered that and the Wildwood cheese steak, which looked good on another table and consisted of steak, meatballs ( which they tout as home made) tomato sauce provolone and blue cheeses. And no, I did not eat them both, I split with my son so we could try them both. My daughters ordered the kids grilled cheese, loaded chips & chicken and pasta soup. Unlike most reviews, our food was out in about 25 minutes.
On to the review. The 9th & Passyunk was good and at some point I will probably have it again but it wasn't blow me away, oh my god I need it again, jaw dropping good, as Guy Fieri portrayed it. It was just good! The wildwood on the other hand was NOT good. The meatballs, even though proclaimed to be wonderfully home made, destroyed an otherwise good sandwich. They tasted, as MOST meatballs do here in Indy, flat, tasteless & pre-packaged to me. Definitely wouldn't have again. To me, and I know this sounds funny, the absolute star of the show was...... The Kids Grilled Cheese!!! To quote Usher OMG! It's kind of hard to describe, it was thick cut bread with white American cheese (which being from the north east I love) inside and shredded cheddar on the outside and it seemed like it was pressed in a flat panini grill. It's was a good size so I was happy there was still some for me. Very, Very good. I WILL go back even for just that, but they charge an extra $1.50 if you're over 12 so next time I'm dying my grays and shaving my white chin and I'll fight with my sister to try and get the deal. The chips and the soup were both good. Kinda neat twist on loaded chips. They had BBQ sauce bacon and cheese. All in all not excellent but good and absolutely not worth waiting an hour as so many reviewers have.
Strike 2 on the Indianapolis pit stop before hitting up Kentucky. This visit was on 8/4/11 slightly after noon.
Decided to take another gamble at a Diner's Drive-Ins and Dives feature. Â This time, it led us to a small dinner located in the corner of a strip mall in Carmel, Indiana. Â I enjoyed the enterior and the hostess was very friendly. Â We approached the table to see two seperate and extensive menus (with two huge sections dedicated to hogies and steak sandwiches) and a whole page disclaimer indicating that we would be waiting for our food for at least 45 minutes...oh, well at least they let us know and I'm not in a rush. Â Minutes later our waiter came by, made a plug about how the restaurant was on Food Network. He also boasted on how everything was made in house with only a few exceptions.
This is what was ordered:
-A crock of the soup of the day:-Pepper Lemon Chicken: It was OK (didn't taste like lemon, didn't taste like pepper)
-Wildwood (Sliced homemade meatballs, w steak, red sauce, provolone and blue cheese) Â this was also ordered with a side of banana and granola (which was very tasty)--Anyway, the sandwich was huge, but not so big on flavor. Â The steak was bland and was overpowered by the flavor of oregano; the blue cheese was sparse and did not stand out. Â I also was not impressed by the baked bread.
-Fleminton (steak, provolone and grilled onions)--no real complaints, just too much onions for her liking.
- 2 cups of coffee ---one of the worse coffees I've ever drank... as much as I needed caffeine, I didn't even finish it. Looked like sewer water.
The service was slow and it took thema while to even bring us our water. The place was busy but not packed.
Maybe I ordered wrong...both of us did not finish our sandwich. I say if you do visit; keep it simple and plan to stay for a while.
I just ate at Jersey's Cafe for lunch today. Â I was ready for the long wait but was pleasantly surprised that I was seated immediately and then once I placed my order my food came out 20 min later. Â From reading the other views I think the owner has realized that it will be a long wait for the food so is now trying to make people aware of it before they order (they have a page on front of the menu stating that it can take up to an hour for your food.
I had the Cheese steak with the Cheese Whiz and it was excellent! I was a little disappointment that they didn't have fries to go with it but the sandwich was amazing so it made up for it.
Arrived at about 5:45 on a Thursday evening. Only a couple of people in the place. Crowd started to arrive about 6:30.
Signs clearly state food is all cooked to order and can take up to an hour.
Staff was very friendly and quick.
We ordered 4 steak sandwiches with different stuff on each.
We then settled down on a game of cards using the deck provided on the table.
20 minutes later we had our food.
FANTASTIC!
Just as good and probably better than cheesesteaks you get in Philly.
Wife said hers was one of the best things she's ever eaten. I'd agree.
Plan for the wait (we may have gotten lucky in our timing) and you will not regret going here.
One more tip, look at the menu online before you go so you aren't overwhelmed with the choices.
Holy Moses! Â This place makes every possible sandwich you can imagine. Â
The wait was 10 min to sit...less than the 20 quoted. Â Yay! Â Then sit down and pick something.....the challenge begins. Â
We spent 15 min to figure out what we wanted. Â Never saw a menu this amazing for sandwiches before. Â Placed order and got food 45min later. Â We were warned it would take this long....so no surprise! Â Willing to take that time. Â Food and drink were plentiful. Â Nothing disappointing at all. Â
I had the SHANE VICTORINO #8, others had the Rueben, Philly Cheesesteak and another kind of Cheesesteak with black olives. Â No one was disappointed with their order. Â
The place is small. Â The sandwiches and drinks are large. Â Our bill for 4 with crabby fries as an appetizer was 54.00. Â I would re visit without hesitation, just need to have two plus hrs for the experience. Â If you can wait and decide...it's a WIN. Â We left stuffed and took food away.
As for other complaints of no carry out, sit down and order and then ask for a to go box if you NEED to take it out. Â However, eating there is part of the experience and you can not avoid the wait. Â
Now that I've made our review I'll read why others didn't rate Jersey Cafe so high. Â One thing...no substitutions on the sandwich so maybe that's a negative for others, but in my opinion.....pick another choice if u need a sub. Â Plenty to choose from!
There are many dining places I want to experience in Indy andI will never TRY to spend my money at this one again!
Being in over your heads because of your over advertising is crappy but I would wait two hours to try some really good food. Â BUT THESE PEOPLE ARE JUST PLAIN RUDE AND HAVE NO IDEA WHAT COSTUMER SERVICE CONSISTS OF!
I tried to visit twice. Â First time I was calling in a carry out order, 6 sandwiches. Â I knew it would take a long time and the website said 'if your in a hurry please call ahead.' Â (I'm no grammar Nazi but I'm pretty sure it should be YOU'RE! Â Hello, this is your business! Â There should not be typo's on the menu!) Â Called and the kid on the phone said they were too busy to take call in orders. Â I asked how long it would take carry out if I ordered when I got there. Â This little piece of you know what told me all snotty, "No, there's noooooooo carry out at all, we're only serving people who actually bothered to come and dine in with us tonight." Â Boy I was hot and almost complained to the owner. (Though, now I know that wouldn't of done any good.) Â I decided it was just some young kid without any social/customer skills and I won't hold it against Jersey's Cafe.
Next time, a while later, I stopped in to order sandwiches to take home to the family. Â There was only two tables seated in the dining room and they still wouldn't take my carry out order! Â WTH!! Â Nobody is even in here!!
I'm done with this place. Â They hurt my feelings and I will not waste anymore time trying to spend my money there........even if the food is good which I don't know if it is or not cause THEY WOULDN'T GIVE ME ANY!!!
My husband is Mark S. below who gave it one star. I am giving it 3 stars because the sandwich I ordered was really yummy. I ordered the big blue and the melted blue cheese and toppings just melted in my mouth. I really enjoyed it.
I agree with him that the chicken salad sandwich was nothing special. However, I have never found restaurant chicken salad to be appealing. The bacon was yummy though.
If our overall experience would of been better I would of given them 4 stars. However, as my husband stated their policy of "if we serve it to you then you pay for it" is not very customer friendly. He even asked, what if the sandwich was wrong or bad would I still have to pay for it? And the response was if we serve it to you then you have to pay for it. This I disagree with.
As someone who has waited tables for years in every kind of restaurant (from mom and pop diner to a $50 a plate fine dining establishment), I understand the frustration with picky customers however, I have never worked in a place where they refused to do anything. I told him if I had been the server I would of asked how we can work to make him happy without going against the policy....maybe just bring out the roll he desired instead of the oiled bread and transfer the sandwich over...there are lots of things they could of done to problem solve. But no problem solving was attempted at all.
Don't get me wrong, I completely disagree with his telling the waitress if she made him pay for it then it was coming out of her tip. However, I don't think she should be punished for following policy. I do think she could of handled the situation better...she reacted instead of responded, she let herself get flustered by my husband's complaint and under no circumstances should she of ignored us after, because any chance she had of changing my husband's mind went out the window when she did not come back by to check on things we needed (napkins, drinks and etc.). In her defense even she admitted to me after that she felt she handled that wrong and got flustered, due to so many negative customers coming in since their show aired.
I feel in the restaurant business your goal should be to make the customer happy, so that they want to return and tell their friends about their positive experience. By their inability to deal with customer complaints they are in fact having the opposite effect. I was taught in the business...for every negative experience they tell 10 of their friends...in the age of blogs and online reviews I think you can multiply that by 100 or more.
The customer is not always right but it does not mean you should not do your best to give them a positive experience.
I stopped in the day after Guy Fieri was there to check the place out. Â I ordered the Wildwood Steak Hoagie with handmade meatballs, provo and blue cheese, and a spicy red sauce. It was so huge I could hardly eat it all. Â BUt I couldn't stop it was that tasty. Â I can't wait to see the show about how it was all put together. Â One of the more unique sandwiches I've had anywhere.
And the soup of the day was scallop, califlower cream. Â There were big pieces of scallop in every bite. Â A bowl was ONLY $3.29! Â I'm definately going back for more.
As Rachel Ray would say "YUMM-O!" This place is absolutely delicious and another hidden gem of Carmel, Indiana.
It is located in an older shopping center off of Meridian, across from
St.Vincent Carmel. We went to Jersey's Cafe via a close friends referral and were definitely pleased. The friendly atmosphere makes you want to love it as soon as you walk in. The husband and wife owner do all the cooking, hostessing and waiting themselves-a definite plus! They have been in business for over 14 years and I Â know why! All of the ingredients here is made from scratch,
including their delicious sauces and homemade bread. They have a VERY diverse menu selection with everything you could possibly want! My favorite is the home-made tuna salad served in a tomato with wheat pita wedges! I also adore their homemade soups! My husband loves the California sandwich offered with huge slices of avocado! The portions are enormous and the prices are definitely
affordable.
