i've been coming here for a few years now, and i don't have a strong feeling, positive or negative. Â basically, you have to go a few times to find out which items you like. Â Individual preferences really vary on comfort food: there are freshly-made items (some good, some from recipes that aren't what i was looking for), pre-made (frozen, canned) items that you might like, and pre-made items that you might not like.
Cole slaw, for example, is the usual soggy sugary vinegar puddle. Â the deep-fried items like seafood, onion rings, and hash browns are from frozen but well-executed and exactly what i'd hope for. Â the regular coffee tastes bad, but the flavored is pretty good. Â the hot tea is horrible. Â iced coffee & tea are good. Â i appreciate that they always have a full assortment of sweeteners stocked at each table. Â
before new management and namechange, there was an option to have real maple syrup on your pancakes; that was really good and i miss it. Â sad to let go of that. Â the tzatziki is way too runny and acidic, like a vinaigrette. Â it should be thick, creamy, all about the yogurt, cucumber, and garlic.
service has improved over the last few years. Â sometimes you get a waitress who really overdoes it on the "hon" and "sweetie" crap, which kind of makes my skin crawl; but service is usually attentive and efficient. Â
the desserts are very good. Â italian lemon cake in particular. Â a one-time visit will likely be hit-or-miss, depending on your preferences. Â when they're good, they're very good!
UPDATE!!!
I went here for breakfast the other day and was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. Knowing that they are usually fast and I needed a quick breakfast I dropped in. Â When the rest of my party got their breakfasts the waitress told me that she thinks they burned my waffle and it will be out. Â Another 10 minutes passes and she says they burned it again and do I want something else. Â My friends were eating slow trying to wait for me, but were already done with their breakfast. Â I told her I would have a muffin and that because of the inconvenience it should be on the house and all she had to say was "Do you know where you are?" Â A couple minutes later she came over with the waffle which looked quite uncooked (opposite of burned for sure?!?). Â She said if I ate it she would have to charge me for it (even after it took 15 minutes after the rest of my friend's food was delivered, 35 minutes after I ordered it) so I told her I did not want it. Â She took it off the bill but refused to take the drink off my bill (once again asked if we 'know where you are') even though the reason I ordered the drink was to go with my food!!
Was told there was no manager available so I will be going back to talk to the manager, but not to eat there again.
I have been here countless times and never had much of a complaint, but after this experience all I can say is DON'T GO HERE! The service has gone downhill and become a restaurant where even the waitresses don't have faith in the place.
