Not a bad place to go. Â Not the greatest but we are in IL and there is not a lot of places to get seafood boils. Â Sometimes the crab comes out with lots of seasonings and others with hardly any at all. Â Last time we were in there the bathrooms smelt like sewer...and I had a cold and could smell something stinky...so not sure what was going on with that.
Review Source:I was on a trip for work and decided to try Joe's. So glad that I did! I order a pale/bucket that had a Lobster, crab legs, potatos, and an ear of corn. Very, very good. I would eat here more than once a week if they had one in my area of the country (Wisconsin). Oh yes....The key lime pie was out of this world!!
Review Source:Joe's air conditioner was broken when I went there and made the dining experience.... well, sweaty. I ordered the King Crab bucket and literally got 3 legs. I understand King Crab is heavier but 3 legs seemed a bit short. Not only was the portion smaller than expected the crab meat tasted watery, almost as if it had been boiled directly for a long period of time.
I sat at the bar thinking I'd get better service as I was dining alone, but the bartender kept disappearing and never refilled my water until the end (remember my comment about the AC?). To her credit though she made a killer alcoholic limeade.
I was actually leery of going here after reading the reviews. Â My experience was totally great. Â The server was excellent, and three of us got the dungeness crab bbqstyle and it was probably the best food I've had at Joes. Â You have to realize that when you go there and order crab you are going to get messy. Â But it's a fun atmosphere right on the river and very good food.
Review Source:I just don't like most of Joe's Crab Shack's seafood. Â I thought their grilled sunset salmon is okay but I've had better. Â Fish & chips is mediocre and blackened tilapia is horrible. Â Some of their shrimp dishes are okay but I don't like their crab cakes. Â I would like to try their Steam pots, that is if they don't load it with sausage like they do most of their dishes. Â I don't eat sausage so I hate how they put it in a ton of their dishes. Â I probably should try to order it without but every time you try to order something different, waiters or cooks seem to screw up your order. Â Not sure if I want to eat at this location again because I've heard the cleanliness of the place is questionable. Â I've ate here so many times though because my sister is somehow obsessed with Joe's. Â I think she just doesn't really know good seafood. Â It does have a nice location by the river but this place just doesn't know how to cook seafood well. Â I think next time I'm in Peoria I'm going to go try one of the sushi places or try to find Thai.

I've always liked this chain of restaurants, and this particular Joe's is in an awesome location, right on the riverfront. Â The food is good. Â I recommend the coconut shrimp and "sunset" salmon. Â The service was ok. Â It took a while to get our food even though it wasn't that busy. Â And then my friend got served a dish she didn't order, but the waitress corrected it quickly. Only problem with this Joe's is that I have so many other favorite restaurants in this area that when I am in the area, I usually wouldn't pick Joe's unless I'm craving seafood.
Review Source:Joe's has a great location on the riverfront. On my most recent visit I tried the Maui Mahi, a Joe's Favorite. It was described as glazed with Malibu coconut sauce topped with mango pico. This fish was VERY salty. I didn't taste any coconut, but the mango pico was there. If this had been described as Cajun or something I would have understood the saltiness, but I was taken aback by it. The potatoes and veggies served with were good.
We also ordered a crab dip appetizer. About half way through eating it our waitress came by with what she said were appetizer plates. They were the size of dinner plates, but we really didn't need them by that time anyway.
Our waitress was attentive with refills and checked in several times.
We went here on a Sunday evening. It was considerably busy but they were able to accomodate our own choice of seating (right by the window overlooking the lake). Nice view, pretty comfy booth.
First up we got the double dip. Dee-lish. It's probably one of the best appetizers in this joint. It's chips and two bowls of dip, one is spinach artichoke and the other is crab dip (yum, yum).
Dinner was good too. My bf got the fish fillet platter. I got the classic steam pot. Crab is something I can only do once a year (don't get a craving for it too much) and it hit the spot. Sonny got the captain's catch ( a combo of popcorn shrimp, mozz sticks, fries). Everyone was happily fed and well stuffed by the end of our meals but we got dessert anyway. Key lime pie. Ooohlala. Very yummy but sharing is recommended. It's a decent size.
The atmosphere is very shack-y. You expect to see a pirate at any second.
Good times.
Ordered the "Orleans" steamed pot.  First, it took over an hour to get the food.  Secondly, for a steamed pot, the crawfish and shrimp were real dry and fell apart.  Asking for a replacement dish took over a half hour, and the place was not that crowded!  We barely saw our waitress and  my wife had to hunt down her own malt vinegar.  Horrible experience.
