Listen to this!
I'm in the area for the weekend, and it's a beautiful day so after lunch a buddy and I decide to meet some friends and maybe have a beer on the water. We walk outside onto the patio greet our friends and order two bud lights at the bar. Bartendress takes our IDs and asks for a credit card from each of us to verify. Then she's gone with our IDs and credit cards for around ten or so minutes. "Alright, what's going on?" my friend and I both said to each other. My friend, let's call him Hector, because that's his name, decides to find out what's up. He finds the lady bartender and she says the manager wants to see us.
"Your IDs aren't matching up from what it's got in my book," says the manager.
Hector is 28 and I'm 25 but both of our IDs are from out of state so I thought, eh whatever, things like this happen all the time. We assure him that our IDs are real and show him other documents with my name. He does not believe us and begins pointing out "problems" on each of our IDs that make little to no sense. Then claims that Hector's picture doesn't even look like him. The picture could not look anything more like him.
Before I continue, I'm sure you're thinking we were loud tourists or elitist jerks or boisterous drunks or something. I assure you, we are not. Neither of us had even had a drink.
Hector was getting a bit heated as the manager was continued saying our IDs were fake. I'm playing the super nice guy. I calm down Hector but the situation is getting a little bit ridiculous.
"Well maybe we'll have the cops come down here and take a look at them," the manager says.
"Call the cops! I'd love to talk to the cops," Hector said.
"Do we really need to get the police involved," I chimed in, "I mean don't you have one of those ID swiper things?"
"We don't swipe."
So the police were called. In the meantime, I walked over to my table of friends. They were all seemingly indifferent to the situation. I sat there sulking. Then I remembered that one of them (who was currently drinking a beer) had an ID from the same state as mine and I asked to borrow it. I showed it to the manager. EXACT SAME TYPE OF ID. The manager held them side by side and claimed to see differences. There were none. I simply did not understand.
3 officers arrived. Yes, 3. Hector, the manager and myself met them outside. They began questioning us and honestly treated us like criminals. Â "What were we doing in this town" "Where were we staying?"
I asked if those questions mattered and was told I needed to check my attitude. Hector was getting upset (now rightfully so) but I knew if we just acted polite that this would end. I apologized and said in a nervous exasperated laugh" I'm really not trying to give any of you any attitude." I was literally shaking at this point.
The manager told the officers that I had been nice but that Hector showed him attitude. The officers took our IDs and said it would take a few minutes. An older gentleman was standing on the stoop with us and started joking around. He eased the tension. Thanks old timer! I tried to get a smile out of the officers but they were totally not having it. A small crowd of onlookers had gathered to see what the commotion was about.
IDs came through. Confirmed our ages and that they were indeed real. The manager mumbled out a half apology. Something like "Sorry but I gotta do what I gotta do in these situations." I shook hands with the manager, "Water under the bridge," I lied.
Hector and I tried to get a picture with all the officers and the manager so we could one day laugh about this situation. They all refused.
Hector left but I wanted to go inside and order something out of principle. I waited 20 minutes and no server took my order. I left just bummed out and exhausted.
There were about 100 different ways to handle that situation and I think the manager chose perhaps the worst. Hey man, a bud light on the house would have probably smoothed things over completely!
Nice view of the water, though.
My sister and I decided on a beautiful Saturday afternoon to go to TK's for a nice cold beer and some food. I am a local and have been there many times before and always enjoy the bar and the view.
I stepped up to the outside bar right next to the register. Two female bartenders were working; the bar was busy but I have seen it worse. On three different accounts the bartenders approached the register to ring in orders and NEVER once looked up to acknowledge me. I stood there with my cash in hand ready to order. On the fourth account that one of them approached I asked "may I please order some drinks" the bartender replied "I am busy right now, you have to wait" she then proceeded to serve other people at the other end, that had just bellied up to the bar. The other bartender approached the register shortly after and I calmly asked again " May I please order some drinks" she replied I am cashing out and need to get things in order; I gave her my best pissed off irish look and she said "fine, let me see your ID" and then "okay what can I get you honey!!!' First off I hate being called honey!!! and second I have been waiting 25 minutes for a beer in the blistering sun and both of you have ignored me and served everyone on the face of the earth except me! At this point I was steaming mad. I ordered the drinks and she proceeded to hand me back a pile of one dollar bills from a 20..... as if she thought I was going to tip her! I DON"T THINK SO!!! They both were extremely rude and disrespectful. If you cannot handle a full bar then you should not be working there! Overall it was a terrible experience. Never again!!!!!!!
Worst experience ever. Granted this place is just a "townie bar" but i'm not really sure how it's still in business after the way they treat people.
A group of 10 of us sat down for dinner-- we expected there would be a wait, however they sat us right away. We put in our drink and appetizer orders and after 20 minutes of being there the restaurant manager came over and told us we had to be moved because there was another party that had that table reserved. He then told us we would have to wait at for another table to open up because he had nothing else available for us. The manager was rude and not at all apologetic. He clearly has no idea how to manage the restaurant or his staff. He is completely incompetent.
In any normal restaurant, where the hostess had screwed up, the customer wouldn't have to deal with the hostility and embarrassment that we dealt with.
