Listen to this!
I'm in the area for the weekend, and it's a beautiful day so after lunch a buddy and I decide to meet some friends and maybe have a beer on the water. We walk outside onto the patio greet our friends and order two bud lights at the bar. Bartendress takes our IDs and asks for a credit card from each of us to verify. Then she's gone with our IDs and credit cards for around ten or so minutes. "Alright, what's going on?" my friend and I both said to each other. My friend, let's call him Hector, because that's his name, decides to find out what's up. He finds the lady bartender and she says the manager wants to see us.
"Your IDs aren't matching up from what it's got in my book," says the manager.
Hector is 28 and I'm 25 but both of our IDs are from out of state so I thought, eh whatever, things like this happen all the time. We assure him that our IDs are real and show him other documents with my name. He does not believe us and begins pointing out "problems" on each of our IDs that make little to no sense. Then claims that Hector's picture doesn't even look like him. The picture could not look anything more like him.
Before I continue, I'm sure you're thinking we were loud tourists or elitist jerks or boisterous drunks or something. I assure you, we are not. Neither of us had even had a drink.
Hector was getting a bit heated as the manager was continued saying our IDs were fake. I'm playing the super nice guy. I calm down Hector but the situation is getting a little bit ridiculous.
"Well maybe we'll have the cops come down here and take a look at them," the manager says.
"Call the cops! I'd love to talk to the cops," Hector said.
"Do we really need to get the police involved," I chimed in, "I mean don't you have one of those ID swiper things?"
"We don't swipe."
So the police were called. In the meantime, I walked over to my table of friends. They were all seemingly indifferent to the situation. I sat there sulking. Then I remembered that one of them (who was currently drinking a beer) had an ID from the same state as mine and I asked to borrow it. I showed it to the manager. EXACT SAME TYPE OF ID. The manager held them side by side and claimed to see differences. There were none. I simply did not understand.
3 officers arrived. Yes, 3. Hector, the manager and myself met them outside. They began questioning us and honestly treated us like criminals. Â "What were we doing in this town" "Where were we staying?"
I asked if those questions mattered and was told I needed to check my attitude. Hector was getting upset (now rightfully so) but I knew if we just acted polite that this would end. I apologized and said in a nervous exasperated laugh" I'm really not trying to give any of you any attitude." I was literally shaking at this point.
The manager told the officers that I had been nice but that Hector showed him attitude. The officers took our IDs and said it would take a few minutes. An older gentleman was standing on the stoop with us and started joking around. He eased the tension. Thanks old timer! I tried to get a smile out of the officers but they were totally not having it. A small crowd of onlookers had gathered to see what the commotion was about.
IDs came through. Confirmed our ages and that they were indeed real. The manager mumbled out a half apology. Something like "Sorry but I gotta do what I gotta do in these situations." I shook hands with the manager, "Water under the bridge," I lied.
Hector and I tried to get a picture with all the officers and the manager so we could one day laugh about this situation. They all refused.
Hector left but I wanted to go inside and order something out of principle. I waited 20 minutes and no server took my order. I left just bummed out and exhausted.
There were about 100 different ways to handle that situation and I think the manager chose perhaps the worst. Hey man, a bud light on the house would have probably smoothed things over completely!
Nice view of the water, though.
My sister and I decided on a beautiful Saturday afternoon to go to TK's for a nice cold beer and some food. I am a local and have been there many times before and always enjoy the bar and the view.
I stepped up to the outside bar right next to the register. Two female bartenders were working; the bar was busy but I have seen it worse. On three different accounts the bartenders approached the register to ring in orders and NEVER once looked up to acknowledge me. I stood there with my cash in hand ready to order. On the fourth account that one of them approached I asked "may I please order some drinks" the bartender replied "I am busy right now, you have to wait" she then proceeded to serve other people at the other end, that had just bellied up to the bar. The other bartender approached the register shortly after and I calmly asked again " May I please order some drinks" she replied I am cashing out and need to get things in order; I gave her my best pissed off irish look and she said "fine, let me see your ID" and then "okay what can I get you honey!!!' First off I hate being called honey!!! and second I have been waiting 25 minutes for a beer in the blistering sun and both of you have ignored me and served everyone on the face of the earth except me! At this point I was steaming mad. I ordered the drinks and she proceeded to hand me back a pile of one dollar bills from a 20..... as if she thought I was going to tip her! I DON"T THINK SO!!! They both were extremely rude and disrespectful. If you cannot handle a full bar then you should not be working there! Overall it was a terrible experience. Never again!!!!!!!
Worst experience ever. Granted this place is just a "townie bar" but i'm not really sure how it's still in business after the way they treat people.
A group of 10 of us sat down for dinner-- we expected there would be a wait, however they sat us right away. We put in our drink and appetizer orders and after 20 minutes of being there the restaurant manager came over and told us we had to be moved because there was another party that had that table reserved. He then told us we would have to wait at for another table to open up because he had nothing else available for us. The manager was rude and not at all apologetic. He clearly has no idea how to manage the restaurant or his staff. He is completely incompetent.
In any normal restaurant, where the hostess had screwed up, the customer wouldn't have to deal with the hostility and embarrassment that we dealt with.
I can't write much in response to the "It's a townie bar". Â However, based on the myriad of remarks I would have to think it is accurate. Â That being said, who cares? Every town in Massachusetts has "townie" bars, and most towns have bars where the "regulars get restless" when strangers invade their territory. Â Thing is, I have been that stranger MANY times, in many venues, most of the time, People warm up to you right quick if you give them a chance.
I was here Wednesday afternoon with my GF. Â We had said stops we had to make in Scituate and my GF recommended T.K.'S based on her previous experiences. Â I LOVE bars that offer great Ocean views so it was right up my alley. Â
We arrived about 1 PM and it was pretty quiet. Â It was a gorgeous day and we walked in and asked if the outside deck was open, it sure was. Â Now, from the brief look around inside, the decor and bar area did seem kind of hideous. Â But again, I would be coming here only for the outside seating and incredible view T.K.'S offers. Â The bar itself out side was closed, seating was open, and our waitress was very friendly and efficient. Â My GF ordered the Turkey Burger and i ordered the fish n chips (Cod fillet). Â We took in the phenomenal view while we waited. Â The food came out shortly and it was nothing great, probably around a 2.5 out of 5 star kind of lunch. Â However, my fish was cooked nicely and it did lack some taste, almost made me think it could be frozen but not at a place right on the ocean right? Â So, I am not sure. Â It was okay. Â I also had it with fries, fried were cooked evenly, not greasy, they were OK. Â My GF said her Turkey Burger was just OK, again, not doing any kind of jumping jacks over it, but it was OK.
So, I would suggest TK'S most likely for those gorgeous summer nights, get there early, pull a seat up to the bar overlooking the Ocean and have some beverages. Â The food? Â Well, you may want to eat elsewhere before arriving, but if you want some decent food (again nothing spectacular) but something along the lines of "OK, and will fill you up" order away..

This place really is a townie haunt. Like any restaurant, they have their good points and bad. The servers are locals, and nice. My favorite calamari on the whole South Shore. Rest of the food is about average for what you pay.
Yes, there are regulars at the bar. Yes, they might take your inventory when you walk in. Three beers in, everyone at the bar is friends though.
Is it expensive fine dining? Nope. Is it fairly decent pub food? Yes. If you're in the area, it's worth a try. I wouldn't go out of my way for it.
I wouldn't call this place a sports cafe. The Four's is a sports cafe. This place is the local dive/watering hole for shitbag townies, yuppies in the summer and douche bags. The deck over looking the harbor is the only nice thing here but you have to deal with rich people driving up to the boat dock in their yachts because they're lazy and can order food there. Speaking of food, its not very good, but it is relatively cheap. All they have on tap is cheap, crappy, tasteless beer and they never clean their tap lines, but you wouldn't know that because the beers are watery and don't taste like anything anyways. Since I don't drink crap beer, I ordered a Sam Adams Octoberfest and they actually charged me $5.50 for it. Ridiculous. I used to get take out here once in a while since I would never be seen there but after they screwed up my order for the 100th time, I vow to never to give this place my money again.
Review Source:This is the "cheers" of Scituate/Marshfield area. If you are a local, you can always count on running into someone you know. It had a great location on Scituate Harbor but parking can be tough. There is a small parking lot across the street, some street parking but most people end up parking at the mill wharf. If you are not local, that bigger lot can be tough to find.
They have outdoor seating which is nice but the food is just alright. You go here for the overall experience and not for a culinary enjoyment. Don't get me wrong, the food isn't bad but I wouldn't drive home about it. The prices are fair. People go here for the location on the water and the atmosphere. In comparison to other options in the Scituate waterfront, this is certainly one of the more popular options.
This was exactly what I expected it to be, so don't be too put off by the three star rating. Â The waitrons were beautiful (high school?) people, but not especially professional or attentive. Or maybe they just wanted to serve their beautiful people friends rather than a grand-mom and her daughter. Â Ours didn't recognize the name of one of their own specialty drinks, either. Â However, there was no problem with the kitchen. Â The Fish and Chips were some of the best I've EVER had, and the Sam Adams was icy cold. Â Great ocean/marina view. Â I would definitely go back the next time I'm in Situate for the seaside atmosphere.
Review Source:I have to laugh at some of the complainers on here. Especially some of the folks with Boston listed as their origin, who I think were expecting gourmet food or top notch quality for relatively inexpensive prices. BUT lets call a spade a spade...they all thought they hit the jackpot cause they're probably cheapskates and saw the prices in the windows and the crowd outside during the summer, figured they were in Scituate and the place is on the water and they expected perfection for short money. Sorry Charlie...you get exactly what you pay for at TK's!
I'll put it to every outsider straight....I grew up a shade northwest of downtown Boston and went to college in Boston and on the No Shore. Been to many a bar/restaurant in and outside the 128 belt from Waltham to Rockport and up the Rte. 1, 2, 3, 93 and 95N corridors. I eventually got my passport some 15 years ago in order to travel, socialize & work south of the mason dixon line(Boston), met my wife (from Marshfield & Scituate), thus "married to the So Shore"!
Along my 15 year South Shore journey taking me from Neponset, to Quincy, to Plymouth, to Scituate, I set out to try most every "heard of" place and some great unknowns. I've frequented many a local establishment all along the towns that line the Rte.3/3A corridors (that would be the true South Shore for you North Shore/Boston people who many think Brockton and Randolph and Canton and Sharon and Bridgewater is the South Shore cause some people from there like to say it is......NOT). I feel like I have a pretty good handle on the bar/restaurant scene down here and no I'm not a regular. Eat/Drink there probably 6 - 10 times a year with 4 - 8 being in the summertime.
Anyhow, for the woman who felt she was being stared at the bar and brushed off to the dining area only to have good food and drink, I can tell you I felt the same way my first time in the bar area almost 10 years ago. But when you think about it, that's the way most everyone feels whenever they walk into a small anytown local bar. Whether your in Waltham or Watertown, Stoneham or Malden, Marblehead, Swampscott or Salem, Gloucester or Newburyport, Lowell or Tyngsboro, Tewksbury or Woburn, No. Andover or Lawrence, Plymouth or Duxbury, Weymouth or Hingham(actually u do get snobby stares in Hingham), Allston-Brighton or Southie, Norwell or Scituate. It's no different anywhere....and to be honest, it's more drummed up by the outsider's insecurities then it is that it's actually happening(except for Hingham).
TK O'Malley's is exactly what u think of a sports bar. Â TV's galore playing all sorts of sports serving mainly bar food with lots of decent to real tasty sandwiches and good apps. Tips are decent and the kids menu is fine. Terrific cold beers and great drinks! It's deck from late spring to early fall has a can't beat view of Scituate Harbor. It's the perfect place for lunch or an inexpensive dinner out in today's times. It's not Mortons, Davios or the Capital Grille, nor is it a back street South or North End Restaurant. It's a sports bar. A local sports bar at that.
I look at the food as being comparable to Applebees or the 99's. Perhaps slightly more to some, slightly less to others. The difference is you'll see steamers on special here certain nights or something else, etc. The pizza who I read someone complaining about, is "bar" pizza. This is not Santarpios, or Reginas or Mama Mia's or the Bridgeway down the road in Marshfield @ Hummarock,Scituate. It's a bar people. The pizza's perfect for kids but also not meant as a 5 star dinner!
If you're visiting Scituate and you're looking for pub grub (tips r pretty good too) you can't go wrong. It won't be your best, but it will satisfy. And if it's summer and your on the deck, food will be the last thing you'd think of when rating the place.
If your an inside person, the left side when you walk in is where you can sit away from the bar scene and get a view the harbor. Don't count on a great view during busy hours during the summer 'cause the deck is crowded. The right side is dark(no windows) and loaded with great sports memorabilia photos, etc. It's also the extension of the bar area and has lots of tv viewing options.
Staff for the most part is always friendly and service is routinely timely. Occasionally, u do get an airhead waitress/waiter in the summer out on the deck who can't decide to talk to their friends hanging out or servicing your table but very rarely. Did I say the beers are always cold?
Theres other options in Scituate to eat, some more ritzy then others  but if you're just looking to fill your stomach, have a few libations, feel satisfied, perhaps take in a bunch of sports or the view/breezes of the deck in season, you CANNOT go wrong! Anyone who says otherwise is either from a competitor, they're cheap but have high expectations or their high and mighty attitude towards what a sports bar should be like is way off base. They could also be from Hingham!
GREAT FOOD! Â I have been going here pretty much my whole life. Â I've been within the past month and the food was still AWESOME! Â I highly recommend the boneless buffalo wings, which are my favorite! Â Our server was very nice and attentive despite how busy he was on a summer Saturday night. Â The patio was great as well, which probably won't be open too much longer!
Review Source:I feel the need to defend T.K.'s against all the haters.
T.K.'s is a townie bar, pure and simple. You won't see any bells and whistles, but you will see the same people in the same seats every night. Situated right on the harbor, there's no better, more entertaining place to sit on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The bartenders are fantastic and know all the regulars, which adds to the town's family feel. Don't expect fancy cocktails, stellar food, or guys in suits, but if you're looking for a real Scituate experience, this is the place to be.
My boyfriend and I decided to try eating out on 2/13 to avoid the crowds on the holiday. Â We had gotten TK's Black Bear-gur before (to go) and loved it, so we decided to give it a shot. Â We obviously picked the wrong night. Â The entertainment were obviously locals who ended up having everyone in town show up to see them. Â We went into the pub side so that we could see the Olympics. Â Mistake.
I have to give it to the staff. Â They tried to warn us, but "the music might bother you" wasn't enough of a warning. Â We were invaded by people who were very excited about seeing their friends and were very loud about it. Â I was also a little annoyed that they all felt bringing their children into a bar was acceptable because they knew the players.
But to the review...the food was "acceptable". Â The service was friendly but obviously overwhelmed by the mass of "friends and family". Â The prices were acceptable as well, but when your food is barely edible, having to pay for it at all is pretty annoying.
We won't be going back again. Â Not worth trying to find a parking space or dealing with being stared down by someone who wants your seat.
You know when you walk in to a place and you instantly feel like you've made a mistake... like,  you hear the needle scratch as it's ripped off the record? We walked into the bar area one Saturday  evening and I just had this sinking feeling like the natives were not happy that we crossed into their territory.  Oh geez.  We hastily retreated to the main dining area, finding shelter amongst the rest of the outsiders.
And then we did what most people would not do in a sports bar. Â We ordered the calimari. Â
And by God it was good. Â It was really good. Â Tender, fried nicely with some banana peppers, served with some spicy dipping sauce, not the traditional marinara. Â Beers were nice and cold. Â Most of the stuff on the menu was sandwiches and burger-type fare. Â Though we didn't venture on into the menu, I wouldn't have hesitated.
Here's the deal- TK's is Scituate's local semi-dive bar. Â It's not quite a dive, but it's not fancy eating either. Â It's casual and the food is generally cheap and greasy. Â People go here for a cheap bite to eat with cheap beer in a great location.
The location is indeed fabulous! Â It's right in the harbor. Â Take in a bite to eat and walk around a bit- check out the Quarterdeck for fun knick-knacks! Â
I used to work at the Quarterdeck and TK's was one of our favorite places to order a quick take-out meal. Â Although, more than a few times, my tummy ached a little from the heavy greasy feel. Â Oh well! Â It's still a town staple!
I've got to stand up for one of my favorite South Shore spots. Â Sitting on TK's deck with a few friends, a margarita and a fried clam roll is summer to me. Â The view of Scituate harbor is unbelievable and the drinks are unbelievably cheap! Â The food is good too, especially the daily specials. Â In the winter, the bar is a good spot to catch a game with a plate of nachos. Â The nachos are enormous but somehow get demolished when I'm involved (which reminds me to go to the gym after work today...). Â Great casual spot good for all ages. Â They added a dock this summer where you can tie up your boat if you come via water.
Review Source:Do not go here. Â Went here for a nice brew on the patio and some food. Â Nachos and wings were fine, but when it came to dinner, it was the biggest dining disaster in recent memory. Â I ordered pizza for some reason and, I kid you not, it did NOT COME WITH CHEESE. Â I thought I was just ordering a veggie pizza, you know, with onions and peppers and mushrooms. Â Nowhere was it indicated that this was some kind of vegan option (not likely anyway, the place doesn't even have veggie burgers. Â Lame.). Â The whole missing-cheese-thing aside, I think I've had better pizza on a mini bagel. Â Ew. Â Also the waitress didn't ask if anything was wrong or offer to comp it. Â In fact, she didn't seem interested in her job at all. Â Needless to say, this place left a bad taste in my mouth. Â Go elsewhere. Â And if you do end up here, don't order adventurously. Â Stick to a beer.
Review Source:I grew up in Scituate and still roll to TK's once in a while. In general, I've had a good experience but the last time I was there kind of killed the place for me.
First off, don't expect amazing food here. It is good bar food, but if you want fish, seafood, etc, at least head to Mill Wharf, if not somewhere else. Fried food, burgers, and pizza are found at TKs.
The bar is fine. You end up with a lot of locals which is how it should be. Plenty of TVs. There are $2.00 PBR drafts which is nice. The bartenders inside are very attentive, as is Tim who seems to usually man the deck.
Speaking of the deck, really nice during the summer. Has a bar out there as well as an area for people to get food, and a seating area for people just there for some drinks.
The wait time in the summer here is awful but that's to be expected.
My last visit at TK's sucked, but that's only because we were cut off by a completely inattentive waitress, followed by the manager being an ass about it. As we were leaving, a kid fell out of his seat hammered having to be escorted out by his friends holding him up. That made sense.
Oh well, don't expect a party scene or gourmet seafood.
I have read the other reviews and I don't really understand them. TK's is great for what it is; a sports bar with an excellent view. Would I order calimari at a sports bar? Â No. But , I do order burgers and wings and they are pretty decent. And, with your $10 burger you get one of the best views on the south shore. I can't say much about the bar tenders, except that I have never had a problem, but I won't say that others haven't had problems.
In the purpose of full disclosure, the silverware is cheap (as if you were on a camping trip), the seating inside is old and uncomfortable, and they just spent an ungodly amount money on a dock which could have been spent on much needed upgrades to the inside and outside. And did I mention the music isn't the greatest either? Â All of that aside, it is still a great place to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon watching the boats go into and out of the harbor while drinking an ice cold brew with friends.
TK's isn't a bad bar. The food is ok, the bathrooms are kind of clean and the beer is cold. If I lived closer to it, I'd give it an extra star or two. If you come here make sure you keep a sober driver! Not that I would ever advocate not bringing a sober driver, but there is no place to hide along the windy roads of Scituate if you've had an adult beverage or two. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but if you're invited out and end up here it's not a bad place for typical American pub grub, and beers.
Review Source:Brought my folks here for lunch when they visited, we were seated in the area to the right when you come in the front door, no view and dark despite it being the middle of the day. Â
our server was incredibly nice, but the food was decidedly lackluster. Â
it did seem like a great place to come for a pint, so i will try it again, but will have to let you know later on how that goes.
Ahhhh TK's... Â The quintesenial townie bar... Â It's cool, I can say that- I'm from heah and hang out heah dood...
In otherwords, if you're headin in for a burger and a pint, check your Arr's at the door, and here are a few highlights to look forward to...
The Good: $1.75 pints of PBR.
The Bad: $1.75 pints of PBR.
The Pissa: A harbor view deck complete with Bar in the Summer!
The Sweeeet: Plenty of TV's for the sawks game
The Ugly: Everything on the menu!
Is TK's worth a trip? Absolutely not. Â But, if you find yourself in Scituate for the beach or boating and want a fun scene- Â check out TK's it's pretty much the only show in town.
