    Disgusting.

I honestly can't remember the last time I sent a meal back and I eat out a lot. Ordered their French Dip sandwich. The beef was horrible, half of it was like a dog's rawhide and the other half was like nasty soft bubble gum. The off flavor led me to believe that the meat was turning as well.

Told the server I couldn't eat it, but I'd finish the fries, and she graciously offered to broach the subject with the manager. She came back and the manager knocked $5 off and said "I could just pay for the fries". The sandwich was $10 including the fries. I didn't push the issue, I just paid my bill and walked out but I feel they totally nickel and dime'd me.

Kaptain Jimmy's is under the same ownership as Opa Opa which seems to struggle with their food as well according to the reviews.

I would encourage you to read the filtered reviews for this place as they seem to tell the story a little better than the non-filtered reviews.

Wide variety of beer choices, huge bar, great atmosphere, and the menu has a little something for everyone.  Burgers are good, clam strips too

I did NOT expect to like anything at a pirate themed gigantic bar/restaurant in Agawam... but I did.

The beer (opa-opa predominantly) comes in two sizes... both priced VERY well.

The appetizers were seriously some of the best bad-for-you food you can get and the atmosphere wasn't nearly as kitschy as I thought it would be.

We went as a family of 14 and the servers were  gracious and fun, despite our annoying one-beer-at-a-time ordering tactic.

My only two complaints would be how frigid the bathrooms were (do they double as walk in storage?) and that the entrees weren't up to par with the apps and beer.

If I lived in the agawam area, I would be a regular at this place... for serious.

We went because we had a Groupon that was about to expire, and I really think I will have to go back one more time to give it a fair review. They were out of a bunch of stuff, the distillery wasn't open yet (I guess it is now), and all the staff seemed kind of shell shocked by the huge rush they had just come off of.  They do have a pretty impressive beer list, and the desserts are homemade!

Good and bad.  The bad was the 5 mushroom dinner special: The mushroom stuffing was too dry, and the entire meal was just too many carbs.  But at under $12, I guess I got what i paid for.  The other bad was that we were not offered dessert or coffee/tea at the end of our meal.  It didn't occur to me at the time, really, but now on yelp reading about some yummy dessert options, I feel like I missed out!  The good: the waiter Jared was attentive and personable.  The tomato bisque soup was yummy.  The bread was also good, but the maple glaze made my fingers sticky. The selection of beers was good, and the sampler was a good way to try new ones.  My companions got the cobb salad, prime rib and chicken/pasta/broccoli: and they were all happy with their choices.

Outstanding beer selection, huge portions and great quality grub!

Came here last night with my buddy and his fiance, we arrived around 3 pm, it was dead so we got very attentive servers. We had their pou pou sampler platter, everything was delicious, they make their own bbq sauce which is outstanding.

They have probably the biggest bar i've ever seen, lots of flat screens, and close to 60 beers on tap, so this is a great spot to catch a game as well

My fiance and I went for dinner on 8/28/12 and really enjoyed it, although I was a little apprehensive after reading poor reviews on several websites. I had the St. Louis style ribs, smashed potatoes, and the veggie of the day; yellow & green squash. The ribs were tender, the potatoes tasted like homemade, and the squash was sauteed w/ just enough butter/olive oil. Not to greasy, as some reviewers stated. My fiance had the California Plunder which was a fancy chicken sandwich, which he said was very good. For starters we had the Parrot Wings with the rum barbecue sauce, they were good. The salad was mixed greens, not the iceberg bag variety, with the house rice winse vinaigrette, also very good. Last but not least the bread...honey glazed, maple bread with maple garlic butter....VERY good. OH, dessert was chocolate rum cake a-la-mode...Delish! I'm glad I didn't let the negative reviews keep me away. The service was good as well, I will defintely be going back.

    Awesome spot! Great food.

Had the chicken mac n cheese as an appetizer. It was good, but my partner was more into it than I was. Ordered the pulled pork sandwich, very delicious, but make sure you order the coleslaw on the side or else they put it right on the sandwich (and it's not that good anyway - gosh, i love me some good coleslaw!). Our awesome waitress warned me about the slaw since she's not that into it either. My partner got the Hot Mama burger. It was very good, but was confused by the two 4oz patties... Would prefer a fat juicy patty! That way it's easier to cook it if you want medium/medium rare.

I got an IPA, very tasty, and I had to try their watermelon beer. It was actually pretty good!

    Will definitely go back.

Had my birthday dinner at Kkaptain Jimmy's Sunday, 4 p.m.  The menu offered all sorts of meals and sandwiches and burgers.  The pricing was excellent and the servers were great.  8 of us ordered 1/2 lobster, grilled salmon, prime rib and appetizers calamary and gargonzola dip. All were happy and enjoyed the food.  Do not know if menu changes later in day, but the 4 p.m. menu was well rounded.  Ambiance is lovely, they said same decorators that did the casino in CT did this place. Bar is huge and very lovely, apparently they enlarged the building..

My boyfriend and I went last night to visit Kaptain Jimmy's in Agawam. Since we bought a groupon, we thought it would be nice to try something new. We sat on the bar side (by the way- the bar is HUGE) and were promptly served in big metal  beer steins. The atmosphere seemed very fun, and clearly everything was new. We ordered the fondue appetizer- which my boyfriend and I loved. He ordered the raw tuna meal and I ordered the baked scrod. He raved about the tuna and also the rice that came with it. I enjoyed my fish, though it wasn't the best I've had. Also, their "smashed potatoes" were dry. We both enjoyed the fried brusel sprouts, which were definitely something different we hadn't tried before. Before we left, the owner- Jimmy, came by our table. He was a very sweet man and we spoke for quite some time. Again, when we were leaving, he chatted with us and asked us to come back soon. He took the time to ask our names, how our food was, and much more. Overall, great atmosphere, good food and nice people. We would go back again.

Went here when we heard about it. The restaurant had a pirate atmosphere insofar that the hosts and wait staff dressed as pirates. The restaurant was large and we sat in the bar table area. The wait staff was very friendly, definitely not mean pirates! They suggested an entree for me, the Angry Pasta, after I was told they were out of the specific pork used for one of their dishes. The suggestion was nice, though I was surprised they were out of pork for the dish so early in the night. Filled up on the gorgonzola garlic bread which was incredibly filling. The Angry Pasta dish was decent, though not as spicy as I wanted. Ironically, it was better warmed up as a leftover. My wife's food, which was the baked haddock, was well cooked with a great brussel sprout side. The drinks menu seemed nice, but I did not drink that evening. However, I liked how the drinks were served in silver pirate-like pitcher cups. Overall, I would definitely attend this place again.

Just tried this place, I was psyched to see a pirate bar had come to the area (honestly, who in their right mind wouldn't be?) the servers are dressed as bar wenches and the appetizers are out of this world. You can get Opa Beers here (my favorite) and everything we ate was fresh. Decor = awesomely piratey! My one complaint, and it's not even a really big deal, the main course didn't live up to how good the appetizers were. Things I would recommend: any salad there, I had a house salad and my hubby had the Kobb, very good! Also, the oysters and the seared tuna...mmmmm.....I had the risotto with pork for dinner, that was meh. They brought us some maple bread with garlic butter, it was sticky and it takes a few bites for your palate to adjust but it is really good and its something new which is hard to come by if you eat out frequently it feels like every place is sort of similar. I would recommend this place for couples, big groups, people who are serious about their beer, people who like pirates, people who like kitchy concepts and awesome 80s rock. I would NOT advise for families with younger children

Great decor, great bar.  Only negative is that for beer they only serve Opa Opa, no other beer selection!

Place is great to grab a few drinks.  Bar section is huge with plenty of at the bar seating and tables.  High quality TV's everywhere and all on an independent cable box.  So you're not stuck watching the same sporting event as everyone else.  Still building the beer selection but if the amount of taps is any indication it will be quite plentiful.  The appetizers I've had hit the mark.  Great addition to Agawam!

Kaptain Jimmy's Restaurant and Distillery (well, not a distillery yet. I don't think they have their federal license to distill) has done a wonderful job converting a rather garish, Italian restaurant into an enclave that any pirate of the Caribbean would be proud of. The appearance, the atmosphere and even the waitstaff dressed up like pirates was impressive.  Dinner?  Well that is another story.  My husband and I ordered a glass of "house pinot noir" from the server. There is no wine list so I have no idea what it cost. When it was served it was a stunningly scant pour, not even rising to the half way point of a typical restaurant wine glass.  I estimated the volume to be no greater than 3 ounces.  We proceeded to order dinner from a rather limited menu.  That is understandable, it is a new restaurant after all.  For an appetizer we ordered 6 "parrot wings". These buffalo style wings are served whole and jointed.  They looked appetizing and I enjoyed the first bite until I saw that the interior of the wing was raw. I checked the remaining five wings and all were raw.  At that point we sent them back and asked to see the manager.  While we were waiting for the manager to arrive we were served our house salad which comes with the entree.  The house salad was a mix of greens, thinly sliced radishes and cucumbers served with blue cheese dressing.  The dressing was thick and bland and seemed to contain more cream cheese than blue cheese.  The baguette of bread served with the salad was thick, doughy and burned on the bottom and the sides. The manager was very nice and accommodating.  She assured us that the wine pours were supposed to be 5 ounces and apologized for the wings.  We ordered a bottle of house cabernet from our server, but I did ask her to price it before serving it.  That was a good decision on our part. She returned to the table to tell us that the bottle of house wine was $45.  I don't believe I paid $45 for a bottle of wine at Shula's Steak House so we cancelled that and my husband ordered a glass of Opa Opa beer on tap which he did enjoy. After a moderate wait our entrees were served.  I ordered prime rib which was served medium rare, tender and tasty.  Unfortunately the medley of julienne vegetables had the consistency of shredded vegetables.  They appear to have been sauteed on a grill and were greasy.  My husband ordered barbecue ribs seasoned with a rub and a "Caribbean, rum barbecue sauce".  For $20 ish he expected pork ribs, baby back ribs, spare ribs. He was served beef short ribs that appeared to have been roasted, not barbecued covered in a sweet, certainly not tangy sauce with no distinguishable taste of rum. We ended up taking half of our meal home.  I am not sure for "who". This is a restaurant that clearly wasn't prepared to open. The server, as nice as she was, didn't know what was included in the entree. There was no wine list, no drink list, no beer list, no prices anywhere for beverages. I hope things improve, starting with the chef. This was a huge disappointment with a great concept.  The parking lot was full. If things do not change, I can't imagine that it will stay full and that would be a shame.
