The food was good! My friends and I started with their 'triple dipper', where you pick 3 appetizers. I let my friends choose. They were okay, but tasted frozen. I ordered the medianoche, similar to a traditional Cuban sandwich with the addition of sliced roast pork. It was a little dry, but tasted yummy and the tostones were awesome. The yucca with mojo my friend had as a side was killer!! For dessert I had the tres leches cake (very good) and a café con leche (one of the best I've ever had!). The only qualms I had were the fly that was more attentive than our server (who was good), and the deafening Phil Collins album they began to play towards the end of our meal.... Don't get me wrong, I like Phil Collins but I would still like to hear my friends talk! I won't rush back, but I would definitely give the place another try

Portions were just right and the food was delicious. I strongly suggest the black bean soup and fried sweet plantains.

I would have given you 5 stars Kenn-Tico if your bartender spent less time hitting on ladies and more time making my dirty martini!

Our server (Marco?) was fantastic!  He was on point and gave us some awesome suggestions for what to order.  We started with the appetizer sampler (I'm sure that's not the official name, but you get the point) - it was a great way to find out what you want to order on your next trip in.

We were advised that the black bean soup was not the way to go on Friday (I guess there are more beans in the soup on Friday), but I rebelled anyway.  I just can't get into plantains and that occupied about 70% of the alternative sides.  The soup was good, but the salmon was delicious (I was also a couple martinis in at this point, so "delicious" was a bench mark much more attainable).  Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meal as we have discussed going back.  I'm not sure that this is where I would go for dinner if I had a choice, but it's perfect for happy hour!

That extra star is for our server.  Excellent customer service is hard to find!

I'm glad I finally got to try this place.  The service was friendly and the food was tasty.  The ambiance made me feel as if I were in a Cuban restaurant in Miami...oh, how I miss south Florida.  The Camarones al Ajillo I had was really good...along with the sweet fried plantains, which I love so much...when cooked just right, at which Kenn-Tico succeeded.  I also shared some yuca frita with my bf...they were so good, I now prefer them to French fries!  Something about the taste and consistency that makes the yuca fritas more filling.  We also had some tres leches cake to go...it was so moist, spongy and sweet!  I hope to go back and try some other dishes.

Had the classic Cuban sandwich for lunch.  While I didn't get a flashback to Calle Ocho, I would go back.  Both companions enjoyed their meals as well (steak and a pork sandwich.)

I stopped by Kenn-Tico Cuban Bar & Grill for a late lunch (2:30pm). The restaurant wasn't very crowded. I ordered the Cubano Especial (Cuban sandwich with chorizo). The Cubano Especial was served with French fries. The Cubano Especial was tasty. The meats, chesse, and chorizo blended well. The French fries was average. I got excited when I seen tres leches cake on the menu. My tres leches cake was delicious. I enjoyed every bite. Kenn-Tico has a variety of cocktails on their menu. The service was fast. My server was attentive.  The employees were nice. Kenn-Tico Cuban Bar & Grill has a nice ambience. The parking was a hassle. I rode around before street parking became available. Kenn-Tico Cuban Bar & Grill is a good choice for lunch with a nice ambience. I give Kenn-Tico Cuban Bar & Grill a 3.5 rating on my first visit.

I learned about this place when a friend gave me a Groupon she forgot she had that was expiring. This will be a mixed review...

I originally wanted to just get the food and go home, because I didn't want to sit in a restaurant to eat when my PJs and a good movie were calling my name at home, but the Groupon required us to dine-in.  So we got a table.  The inside has a simple, Cuban decor which is great. I loved the walls in the entryway with writing all over them. It was clean and comfortable inside.

The service was, well, I'll say there was a lot to be desired.  There were only 3 waitresses working. And while yes it was a Wednesday, it was busy enough to have been in the restaurant for over an hour when I didn't want to be. Our waitress was very pleasant, but it took her forever to get drinks, or extra sauce.  She kept bringing food to our table that we didn't order, and taking our food to other tables. After getting our food, it took almost 15 minutes to get boxes so we could leave.

We got the yuca frita for an appetizer with the jalapeno dressing. Simply amazing! I almost wanted to order another serving they were so good.  He got a salad with shrimp, which he liked. I ordered the Country Wrap - which was chicken salad. I chose the garlic tortilla wrap, and it comes with tomato, onion, banana peppers, lettuce, mozzarella, and jalapeno sauce with a side of fries.  Honestly - this was the best wrap I have had anywhere, hands down.

Had my review been strictly on food, I would give 5 stars easily.  Their food is phenomenal. I will be going back, because it is that good and there's other stuff on the menu I'd like to try.  But will most likely be calling ahead to order so I can pick up and leave, unless I'm in the mood to sit and wait. :-) This is definitely a must for anyone that loves food though. You won't regret eating here.

This was my 2nd time here, I noticed they expanded the place, there are now 2 dining room areas.  We had a reservation and were seated as soon as we walked in, we sat beside a waterfall that was in the room on the right. The best part of that area was there was a live guitarist playing some cuban music.. It gave us a nice romantic  atmosphere.. The live music made it feel authentic.
The service was great, our waitress was perfect, friendly, patient and she was very knowledgeable about the menu. Thats always a plus. I love a waitress who can sell me by the way she describes food!
We ordered an  appetizer, the triple cuban dipper.. It comes with choice of 3 appetizers, we chose mini papa rellenas,  yuka frita and camarones fritos (fried shrimp)... All three were good.  We got a salad with their traditional cuban dressing. (its some type of green dressing,, not sure whats in it but its good).
Entrees come with 2 sides and I chose lechon asado (shredded pork) with arroz moro (rice & Black beans) it comes in a perfectly shaped circle on the plate...and it was cooked just the way I like it.... .. My other side was platanos maduros (sweet plantains) they were yummy.. Only thing wrong with them was I wanted more!

Dessert came soon after... We chose flan and tres leche cake... Both were sweet and delicious... In honor of the valentines holiday the flan came shaped like a heart.. Nice cute touch KennTico. ;)
Last thing that needs to be mentioned is the refreshingly light and addictive mojitos.. You just cant have cuban food without one.. And KennTico makes them well..

KennTico is a great little cuban spot tucked away on Grace street downtown.. They will see me again.. Soon...

This restaurant was a great Yelp find!  We were on foot and needed a place to grub before hitting the local bars and this spot was legit!  I rarely get authentic Latin cooking outside of my mothers kitchen but this place delivered.

The food was great.  Savory, sweet, cooked to perfection.  I enjoyed the sweet plantains, black beans, rice, and the ropa vieja was  incredible.  The food was piping hot, served with a smile and familiar Latin tunes in the background.   The waitress recommended a couple of their specialty Mojitos and we were all too happy to test them out.  Truth be told, they were great but the mint was a bit over muddled and it made the drinks a little harder to drink than I would have liked.  Otherwise, great stuff, just dive into the menu, no need for suggestions.

The staff was friendly, informed and authentic.  They cook in small batches and it really lends to the great flavor.  We had the Flan as well and it too was great.

Finally, they have a wall that everyone signs.  you can look around and see signatures from all sorts of places.  We signed it and moved on with the evening.  Very highly recommend this spot.  We will be going back whenever we find ourselves back in that neck of the woods.

You're cheating yourself if you don't come here on a Monday, grab a Cubano Especial and a Mojito on special, and sit next to a window. It's the only way I know of to face the reality of four more work days.

They finally renovated and expanded to whatever burnt out crack den used to be next door  - turned it into a lovely open space with a sliding glass wall/door to create a bangin' patio space.

Food is excellent and authentic (from what I can tell of four days spent in Miami, caveat) and the service is great.

Went back for a full meal and it was fantastic!  We each started off with one of Kenn-Tico's signature drinks, which were good, but a little pricey.  Our meals were paired with a salad, which was disappointing in size and content, but was dressed nicely with their own recipe.  As an entree, I had the Pechuga de Pollo a la Parrilla, which was marinated and cooked very nicely.  I also had the choice of two sides, as did my date, so we each chose two different sides in order to experience as much Cuban food as we could!  We had fried sweet plantains, fried green plantains, yuca con mojo, and yuca con frita.   Never having tasted any of these before, I was delightfully surprised with all of them.  I ended up eating the sides and saving most of my chicken as leftovers!  The chicken was fine reheated as a second meal.  Next time, I'll have to go for dessert.  I definitely recommend this place for a good meal, and new experience for anyone who's never had Cuban food.

I popped in today to get out of the rain and was so glad I did. First off, the server opened the door for me to come in and continued to be extremely helpful. He offered suggestions for what to order but wasn't pushy. Well,  he did scoff at me picking papas fritas as a side dish. He was right though and the yuca mojo was so delicious! I agree with others on the tostones- cooked just right. The house dressing, the one with garlic, cilantro and olive oil was so good I could have drank it. My only complaint was that my pork dish, though tasty, was kinda tough. I will definitely come back!

I enjoyed my first trip to Kenn-Tico Cuban restaurant, they received 4 stars! My second adventure was even better. We went mid-afternoon so they weren't very busy. Where to begin? Lets see, hmmmm, ......terrific server, Caitlan, friendly, knowledgable, informative and very professional. I requested dishes she would recommend, that's never a bad idea! She gets 5 stars! My wife had the Key West wrap w/ an incredible dressing! They have already bottled it. You can buy a bottle and take it home!
I had the Ropa Viejo, / pulled beef, so moist w/onion, garlic and peppers and 2 sides rice w/ black beans and Plantains. Don't ya just love Plantains? WOW!, and when coffee is served, Cuban style, I'm there! It was Yucatan good! I stopped after my first cup and an additional double shot! The other meals were terrifico, also. I even signed the wall! If you haven't  been to Kenn-Tico you need to drop in and enjoy!

We were looking forward on eating at Kenn-Tico Cuban Bar & Grill. But it was a big dissapointment. We order the Papa rellena and it tasted like it was fry prior and then heat up. We also order the Cuba Sandwich with chorizo and it was dry and cold. The chorizo they used looked at a slice of salami. Never seen chorizo like that.. The meat in the sandwich was also dry. Our plantains were also dry and over cooked. It tasted like they were fried the day before. Service sucks as well. We will not be going back there again. Kuba Kuba rest. is 10x's better!

I went to Kenn Tico's last week. Parking was somewhat scarce, but I managed to find a spot and arrive at the restaurant around 6:00pm. This is a no nonsense review so here goes.

    The Good:

Service- The servers and owner were very friendly and personable. The food came out in a decent amount of time and was hot. The server refilled the drinks without being asked.

    The Bad:

Taste- I ordered the Salmon Tropical with Mashed Potatoes and Rice. The salmon was slightly overcooked and lacked seasoning. The toppings on top of the salmon have it a little kick, but it did not rescue the sinking ship. The mashed potatoes were slightly dry and lacked seasoning as well.

Overall- While the food was somewhat bland, I did not get a chance to sample the dishes that most people in the reviews are raving about. The prices are decent for the food you want to get. The customer service of the restaurant and ambiance are enough to get me to come back again sometime.

We got the appetizer platter with yuca frita, croqueta, and the tostadas. They were all great! For the entree I got camarones al aljillo (shrimp) with the yuca con mojo (boiled yuca) and arroz Moro (black bean rice). I looooved the boiled yuca!! Such a great texture and taste. The person I was with thought the boiled yuca was too garlicky. The person I was with got ropa vieja (shredded beef) with the black bean rice and fried sweet plantains. He said the beef was tender and flavorful. The original mojito was to die for!!

I will definitely be back again!

I was lucky enough to find street parking right outside the restaurant even though it was downtown! I came to Kenn-Tico for lunch with a Groupon in hand. I really liked the awning at the entrance. I sat at one of the tables right by the window for the view.

The restaurant itself is relatively snazzy and bright, with some pleasant background music. We had two servers on my visit (one person was training since it was her first day). Both were friendly throughout the entire meal.

I ordered the Lechon Asado entree, which came with two sides and a salad. I chose arroz moro and yuca frita as my sides. The dish overall was tasty. I added a cup of sopa de pollo, which was essentially a chicken noodle soup. The noodles were kind of boring and the soup slightly bland, but it was served piping hot, which I liked a lot!

I also tried a mamey milkshake, which was fun since it was such a fun-tasting fruit and I had never had it before. I indulged in some tostones too, which were similar to the patacones at Quiubo Pues (both are fried plantains). I love plantains!

Portions are ok given the price, and the food wasn't bad, but I wasn't blown away.

Went there for dinner and I must say from start to finish one of the worst dining experiences ever. Tables were open and they make me wait at the bar forever for a table. The bartender finally had to step in to ask the waiter to clean off one of the already empty tables so we could sit. The drinks were served in glass Dixie cups and were weak. The food was bland and dry. One of the worst Cubans I've ever had in my life. Having visited Tampa on a frequent basis I know the difference between a real good Cuban  sandwich and what they served. Overall, not worth the time and hassle to ever visit again.

I originally visited Kenn Tico for the friday night Latin music, but decided to try the food. It's OK. I ordered the Triple Cuban Dipper (appetizer sampler). The ham croquetas were reasonbly tasty. The Yucca Frita was fried to perfection. But the Tamales Cubano was a clear miss - WAY too much garlic to the point that you couldn't even taste the corn. The sandwich de pollo was just ok. As far as cuban food in Richmond, Kuba Kuba is still my favorite, but you should come to Kenn Tico for the latin dancing.

I love the food here!  My gf and I have been coming to this establishment for a little while now, it is nice to see an increase in guests when we visit.  Well nice in that business is good and we can hopefully enjoy this place for a while.  Not so nice that it is busy enough to have to wait to be seated now... boo hoo!  We'll get over it!

I dip everything in the yellow'ish jalapeno sauce!

Give it a try, I hope you'll enjoy!

We found Cuban food!!!! I was having withdrawal symptoms!

I found this place on yelp and decided to try it. Me and my husband went on a Friday night and we were seated right away. It was not packed at all. I recommend ordering the triple Cuban dipper for an appetizer. We ordered tostones, croquetas, and tamales. All very good, but the tamales was delicious!! I wanted more! For our entrees, I ordered the grilled chicken and my husband ordered the picadillo. Both entrees were good.... not like the Cuban food we get in Miami, but at least we can satisfy our cravings! I never realized how much I would miss Cuban food until I moved to Richmond... I guess you really don't know what you have (in every street corner) until it's gone!

The mojitos are very good. Love the pineapple the best. The four us ordered appetizers and different entrees so we could get a taste of each. Service was good, our waitress had to leave but Matt picked up where she left off and did a fine job!  We were not in a hurry so we enjoyed a leisurely dinner.  We will definitely go back.

I should have known when I walked in and the cashier's station was covered in sharpie graffiti.....Standard fare Cuban, lots of pressed sandwiches which
frankly, could be featured on anyone's menu regardless of the type of restaurant.

The service was subpar and the owner and his friends were sitting at the bar drinking. Our waitresses  (Yes, plural....I guess our table was being "tag-teamed") took turns serving us and alternated eating their dinner. My turkey sandwich on overly crusty bread was served with a side of bland, boring shoestring fries which tasted like cooking oil. The wings that we shared as an appetizer could have come straight from any random sports bar in town. Nothing about them stood out.

Finally, and here's what really set me off. When it came time to leave, their cash registers "broke" and we were literally held hostage while they attempted to fix the problem. A few minutes passed...then a few more minutes and finally a half hour.....and then almost 45 minutes. After some grumbling, I was offered a cup of coffee? Really? I'm stuck in your restaurant on a Friday night and I have plans to go out afterwards...and you offer me......COFFEE?!  Here's a thought, how about you manually process my credit card like businesses have been doing for 40 years?! At the very least, buy us a round of drinks on the house.

    Never again.

Decided to try Kenn-Tico this weekend with another couple and was looking forward to a new cuisine experience. We split the Triple Cuban Dipper appetizer with the tamales, mini papas rellenas and after being told they were out of croquetas settled on Havana chicken wings. It would have been better to split between two people, not four but everyone got a taste of each item. We liked them all, especially the papas rellenas! We each ordered one of the pork entrees for dinner and enjoyed it for the most part. Flavor was good however pork was a bit dry. The accompanying sides were fine, nothing to gush about but tasty nonetheless. I did love the house dressing on my salad, had a nice garlic kick. Our favorite mojitos of the night were the mango and coconut flavors. Entree portions weren't great for the price but the sandwiches seem more reasonable.

There were only 3 people working in the dining area on a Saturday night (and that included the bartender waiting tables) so service was sloooow and we had to ask for things (like a glass of water) multiple times before getting them. Overall, I think that we'll come back for the food... just hope they are better staffed next time.

We went here not knowing what to expect. The reviews were not overly favorable but the menu looked pretty good.  We ordered the Classic Cuban Sandwich and Pan con Lechon both were average at best. The Pan con Lechon (which was previously reviewed favorably on Yelp) was under-marinated and the yuca frita was just okay. The sweet plantains were good and sadly it was only good thing about our meal and experience at Kenn-Tico. Our waitress, Lauren, was unpleasant and left us feeling like she had better things to do. The smell inside of Kenn-Tico was very reminiscent of cleaning chemicals or bug spray.

Our take-away from the experience is you want Cuban food head over to Kuba Kuba, where you will find a better ambiance and much better food, granted the service will be about the same.

We are not frequent visitors to the city, more often opting for the fringes. However, a special deal led us to this Cuban restaurant, after long ago thinking there were no worthy Cuban restaurants in Richmond. The location of Kenn-Tico appears to be in a fairly run down block. The restaurant itself is essentially divided into two spaces, with the overall space still being relatively small.

Our visit got off to a rough start, as it took a really long time for them to make and serve our drinks, cafe con leche. Things continued downward, when I was told that the sweet bread required for a medianoche was not available. And the final major tick in the downward direction was when my son's chicken fingers originally arrived undercooked (they did gracefully replace and the second order was cooked correctly).

Fortunately, things largely turned around after that. My wife ordered the vieja ropa, which is shredded beef with a sauce, maduros (fried sweet plantains), and yucca frita (fried yucca root, similar in many ways to a potato). My wife enjoyed part, although the portions were fairly small for the $13 price tag.

I ended up with the Cubano, which consists of pork, ham, cheese, etc on bread that is pressed not unlike a panini. I opted for tostones instead of the french fries that comes with the sandwiches. This was the best tasting cubano I have had in many, many years! Everything was portioned correctly, which provided the exact balance of taste required for a great sandwich. The tostones (fried plantains)  were excellent as well and came with a wonderful garlic sauce.

We'll give this place another try, based on the quality of the food delivered and the friendliness of the staff, but hope that the miscues are reduced. If so, our rating of Kenn-Tico will rise and be added to our list of favorite establishments in Richmond.

I had such high hopes for this place! I was sincerely and utterly disappointed! Upon entering the establishment, the restaurant smelled overwhelmingly like pesticide. But since I was determined to give the restaurant a try, I convinced myself that I could not be 100% positive that I was smelling pesticide/roach spray and therefore proceeded, giving Kenn-Tico the benefit if the doubt. It was 6:30 pm and the restaurant only had one other table of two filled! After the two left, one lone customer came in and went to the bar area. It remained that way throughout my dinner. Absolutely no other customers. I should have recognized this as a warning. It was like a ghost town!
At the servers recommendation, I ordered the "authentic" Cuban pork dish...."Lechon something". I was able to pick two sides. I chose rice with black beans and plantain. The dish also came with a salad. The "salad" arrived first. I was told that there were only two options of salad dressing - ranch or a simple mixture of oil & vinegar. What? I don't care for ranch. And so sure enough, I received a pure mixture of 3 tbs of olive oil with a few tsp of vinegar stirred in it by the server. Hmm. I don't even know what to say about that. And the salad...OMG! It was nothing but OLD lettuce that was not freshly torn (dried around the edges) and four little tiny pieces of chopped tomato on top. Essentially, just a bold of old lettuce. Yuk! My dinner arrived promptly. I have never seen plantains ooze with so much OIL! In fact, I could not enjoy the sweet taste of a fried plantain. All I could taste was OIL. It was disgusting. When I pressed the plantain with the back of my fork, all I could see was gobs of oil oozing everywhere! Disgusting, I say! The pork chunks were clearly at least two to three days old and tasted like nasty, nasty old leftovers. I was horrified! The taste was as if the pork had been reheated previously and then reheated again on another day. Finally, the rice had enough garlic in it to keep away 15 vampires. Very overwhelming!

I just can't believe that anyone would serve such horrible food! I can say that the server was friendly. I wish I could give this place zero stars...but I guess the one star could be for the server. I would Never go to this place again. Do you hear me YELP? NEVER, I say!!!

I've been here twice in the last four months and it seems to be getting its stride. I've had the pork chops, the lechon, both with tostones and yucca/mojo. This was great home style cooking. The sauce had some serious garlic and nice buzz (not spicy hot), they should bottle it for sale.

Not sure why folks would come here for "standard fare" and not get any of the typical Cuban dishes...but hope they do continue to come and support this place to last. Long list of wraps. They do seem to have a challenge with their coffee machines (LOL), but my cafe con leche was fine.

Nice Mojito drink list. Very friendly attentive staff. Clean colorful space. Could see a great place for a happy hour party if I worked in the area.

I enjoyed a filling and satisfying lunch at Kenn-Tico. The Cubano especial was grilled Cuban bread with sliced pork, ham, Swiss cheese, and chorizo (the chorizo added to make the plain Cubano more "especial"). The blend of lunchmeat-style meats were generous but not overwhelming. The chorizo was so mild and scarce as to be unnoticeable, and the mustard was mild. The Cuban bread was lightly grilled, crisp and not tough.

Instead of the fries, I opted for a Cuban side, for merely $1 additional. I chose the Yuca con Mojo, boiled yucca with Kenn-Tico mojo criollo. More memorable than the sandwich, the yucca, a potato-like root, appeared sinewy to the eyes, but not to the tongue. The soft consistency was complemented with the red-onion mojo.

Since I went for lunch, I didn't try out the spirits. I noticed an interesting Cuban-based cocktail list and south-of-the-border wines, but the beer selection was disappointing: no taps and only the standard big bad brew beers.

The service was friendly and prompt, the restaurant clean and neat (more so than the other RVA Cuban restaurant). Prices were reasonable, with my especial sandwich at $7.95, and entree prices ranging between $10-$15.

My mother works nearby, so I watched this place get started. The bar is the best part of the place. It's unique and I'd love to sit there and have a mojito or two (I haven't yet.)

The only thing I've eaten from here was a wrap, which was bland. I got it with the rice instead of fries and honestly I didn't really enjoy the rice either. I'd like to return for dinner and try some of the entrees they offer, because I don't think what I ordered really gave the place a chance to justify itself. My mom swears by their chicken dishes, so I feel left out.

Great service, very friendly, and clean inside.
