Poor service. Three of us went for dinner. There were only three or four tables with customers when we sat down. We ordered pretty quickly - one order of scallion pancake as an appetizer and a bibimbap for each of us for dinner. We waited for over 40 minutes and then left without eating. The only thing we were served were the little bowls of sides and tea. While we waited in our seats there were a number of people in the lobby waiting for their pickup orders. We would have stayed if they had served our appetizer. The food was not even near ready when we said we were leaving. As an aside, the kimchi served as a side lacked seasoning.
Review Source:The best part of the meal was the server who was polite and trying so hard to apologize for the entire experience! Â It's also a BYOB which is good! Â
First off, the menu isn't clear. Â I had no idea our meal came with little side dishes or miso soup (which was great, but we ordered two salads and an appetizer that wasn't necessary). Â
Next, the food took FOREVER! Â We ordered two stone bowls, which I saw on other reviews were highly recommended. Â Ours were supposed to be a combination of rice, veggies, and beef. Â Instead they were filled with burnt rice, LOTS of onions, and meat. Â Besides the onions serving as the veggie of the meal, it was flavorless. Â The stone bowl is a novel concept, but having a burning hot bowl in front of you doesn't make a relaxing dinner. Â
Besides the menu and the flavorless food that took over 75 minutes, the place is not pleasant. Â The carpet is filthy, the table clothes are frayed, the decor is so bad it's funny (where do you buy fake brick wallpaper?). Â
I recommend choosing the two other restaurants in this plaza... go for Mexican or Italian!
Tried this for dinner the other night. Â The restaurant is small and I felt that the decor was a little tacky. Menu was a mix of Korean and sushi, and the prices seemed fair. Although I love Korean food, I only tried the sushi. Â I decided to order a couple of rolls. Â They were okay. Â One of the specialty rolls seemed a little small. Â I wasn't impressed. Â Maybe I will return to try their Korean food.. Â Until then it's two stars
Review Source:Been here about 5 times since discovering it a few months ago. Â The food is absolutely delicious. Â We love the bulgogi stone bowl and the small plates are delicious---kimchi is a favorite and it's made at the restaurant, not from a jar!! Â Gyoza (steamed and fried) is delicious as is the miso soup. Â You really can't go wrong here!! Â Always consistent, relatively inexpensive (especially for what you get) and always delicious!
Review Source:SOMEONE ELSE WROTE :"veggie/kimchi side dishes have unlimited refills" - BUT THIS WAS NOT AT ALL TRUE ON OUR RECENT VISIT. Maybe you are a special customer? But after reading your review, I went and we ordered 2 entrees and only received one small set of these "extra sides" and when I asked to please get a refill on one, I was turned down and the waitress, albeit politely, said she couldn't do this.
I have no idea why - I asked, but couldn't understood her reply - either could my friend. What if I ate alone? Would I still receive the same size small dishes? So if two of us (or more) are dining, wouldn't it be reasonable to expect to receive a little more? Oh, well, beef stone bowl was tasty but contained LARGE, QUARTER SIZED inedible pieces of fat which were not for consumption. My pork stone bowl had some too. Why would you put giant pieces of fat into the dish? Loved the crispy rice at bottom though. Â Would return for a 2nd try but hope they remove the fat first, and reconsider filling the "extras" bowls!!
Clean and quiet place. Went with colleagues, tried the tofu stone bowl they suggested as a veg option. Loved the steaming bowl and spicy mix of  rice, sauteed tofu, sping onions, onions. the beef lunch box and stone bowls taken by my co-workers smelled delicious as well. Alongside, we got miso soup and assortment of sauteed, spicy appetizers which were lovely. Overall, I enjoyed the food and ambience.
Review Source:I am a huge fan of Korean food. In Central NJ, it is hard to come by unless you venture north of the Edison Bridge. Thankfully, this restuarant opened up not too long ago and it is incredible. The owner and his staff are always very warm and inviting to me and my family. The Korean food is authentic and perfectly seasoned. I visit Kimchi on a regular basis. The food is always consistently great.
Review Source:Being the only local Korean restaurant, this place rocks! I love it. While I was going to BCC it was my most favorite place to eat. It's great for an Introduction in Korean food. Their bi bim bap is my favorite, they have a really good cod soup, and the spicy squid dish is to die for. My favorite place in the area. The owner is really nice too. Did I mention unlimited panchan? ( The radish is good, their kimchi is different depending on who makes it, but generally the same) Another plus is that they always have new art on the wall. I love seeing the different paintings, and the place changing up. This is def. one of the best places to eat in Monmouth County.
Review Source:Been wanting to come here after reading all the reviews so when I was in the area on a friday night, we decided to eat here. Â We had the bibimbap, spicy California roll, seafood tofu soup and bulgogi with rice in earthenware pot - all were very good. Â I've had Korean food in Ktown in NYC and Edison - K&S compares well to some of those restaurants.
Review Source:Have been here multiple times since its opening, food & service are both excellent. If you order Korean dishes/entrees, there are usually 4-5 complimentary side dishes (various pickled veggie, kimchi, a small fried whole fish, etc.) and all the veggie/kimchi side dishes have unlimited refills! Â Have tried sushi a couple of times and they were all good. Korean dishes ordered were: seafood scallion pancake (appetizer), bimbambop, stewed tofu pot (sorry forgot the Korean name for these), Korean beef entree, rice porridge (kind of not worth the entree prices, when compared to Chinese rice congee servicing sizes & prices in Chinatown). Too bad they don't serve bubble (boba) tea & fruit shakes, that was offered previously by Saigon II at this location. Boba & shakes would really complete a fun & delicious meal!
Review Source:This little place is a gem in the shore area for Korean food. Â Love at first bite!
Started with an eel, tempura shrimp and avocado roll. Â Very good. Â Our server brought out four little plates of traditional Korean foods. Â Kimchi, potatoes & pickled radish. Â All were very good!
Followed the advice of fellow Yelpers and ordered a Stone Bowl for dinner. Â DE-lish! Â I wanted to finish every last bite while in the restaurant but I had wonderful leftovers for lunch the next day. Â My friend had the short rib dinner and it was fabulous, too. Â The meat had a wonderful sweet taste.
I will definitely be going back! Â
BYO
I've been to this place a few times now. Â As a New Yorker, it is decent Korean fare, with a limited but solid menu. Â In the middle of Monmouth County, it is awesome. Â Would need to travel all the way up to Edison, NJ for more authentic Korean. Â And the portions are generous. Â My wife bought the bento lunch box and we both still had enough to feed the kids AND take home leftovers. Â I always go for #119, the Bulgogi BiBimBap
I did try a few pieces of sushi as well. Â While it was decent, it was just OK in my opinion. Â But I really should give the rolls a chance in all fairness. Â That is where the creativity really shines through with Japanese food.
I ordered the Spicy Pork and Vegetable Stone Bowl, which was delivered in a piping hot stone bowl filled with rice and topped with the stir fried pork and vegetables. The hot bowl gave the rice a crispy texture and kept the dish hot for the duration of the entire meal. The meal also included some forgettable miso soup, and good kimchi, though I'm not an expert on kimchi. The Kalbi was tender and flavorful, and I could just eat the sauce with rice any day. The prices were mixed with some Korean dishes as low as $6.95, while most of the popular dishes were in the $13.95-$22.95 range. A majority of the menu were Japanese dishes/sushi, but we didn't bother to try that out since we have a couple of go to restaurants for that in the area already.
Kimchi and Sushi was a nice addition to the Asian restaurant scene in Monmouth County, NJ, and I would gladly return. I even presented my mom with a card hoping that she will welcome it into her short list of acceptable restaurants. If it's not Asian cuisine, my mom has a tendency to order either chicken tenders or seafood. She's just that Asian. Kimchi and Sushi, make me proud.
If you live nearby and are craving Korean food, you must come and check this place out! Â I normally go up to Edison or Ft. Lee for Korean, and sometimes the drive is a pain. Â Rather than make the long drive for good Korean, I can just come here... I am so glad this place exists!!!!
Stone bowls are awesome here ... the spicy pork stone bowl is dee-lish: a nice mix of hot paste, yummy pork ,and veggies over steamed rice in a stone bowl. Â They have some "experimental" stone bowl dishes in the works (like a beef/cheese/kim chi stone bowl... can't wait to try it). Â Also, the soft tofu soup (son do boo) is excellent. Â Nothing beats Ft. Lee- So Kong Dong for soft tofu... but I'm telling you, this place has awesome son do boo. Â Trust me, I'm Korean! Â I had the sushi once, it was OK, but I'm very picky. Â The Korean sides are good, though not as extensive as larger Korean restaurants (Kim Chi good, though it's hardly a good measuring-stick for a place's overall quality). Â
Decor in this place is fun. Â Bright colors and a neat "cartoony" painting of a city behind the sushi bar. Â Great for families and little ones. Â Check it out! Â Thanks Kimchi Sushi!
For the only Korean restaurant in the entire area (trust me the next closest place would be NYC), I guess I can't bash on it too much.
But my first complaint would be that their menu is about 90% Japanese, and 10% Korean.  I thought that this was going to be mostly a Korean restaurant, but  I guess I was wrong.  This place should be called "Sushi and maybe a little bit of Kimchi."
I had their Yook Gae Jang, and it was pretty good, but again, I can't find Korean anywhere else, so I'm writing out of desperation. Â Came back here and had their bi-bim-bap, but I wasn't as impressed with that dish.
Since I found this place a month+ ago, I have eaten here almost every week, brought friends/family there and gotten take-out. EXCELLENT!
Having just moved from Hudson county, I am used to a variety of good asian places to choose from and this place is far from dissapointment.
The sushi is NYC quality- japanese hot dishes are delicious and Bol go gi is top notch. Try the fried spicy shrimp.
Place is BYOB and there is a liquor store across the intersection.
Prices are fair and portions are huge!
Do not miss! you will become an instant regular here....
This place serves Japanese and Korean food. Â We enjoyed a Korean lunch. Â Prices are very reasonable and this is the only Korean place near this area. Â Service was quick. Â I like the atmosphere. Â The bathroom was very clean. Â Only think they need to remove the stained rug that I think was there before this restaurant got it's start. Â Yes, this is a new restaurant. Â There used to be a Vietnamese place here.
