Great food. I loved the bread, but could have lived w/o all of the poppy seeds. Lunch for me was pasta with lobster and shrimp. It was divine. The service could not have been better!

Of course everyone is in love with the bread from this place. Typically, my wife and visit here to enjoy their Pizza and bread - which usually helps keep the price low on the bill. I would recommend this place for someone who is interested in eating at a nice place with several options to-break-or-not-to-break the budget.

Admittedly, I'm a bit of a foody...AND I've been living on the west coast for 15 years which certainly entails getting spoiled when it comes to eating out.  I know this is a popular restaurant for locals and my mom has eaten here profusely over the years.  I found it to be impersonal, chain-esque, and generally bland.  Spinach dip was too heavy and cheezy, the Calimari was like rubber (if it was even Calimari). Dinner featured over dressed ice-berg lettuce salad, tasteless mashed potatoes, and battered fish that had an unfamiliar and unpleasant flavor.  I ate about 1/4 of my dinner.
For the prices they are charging, the quality should be considerably higher.
I probably could have ordered better but I won't be going back to try any time soon.

Every year for our anniversary for 10 years.  Best of the best every time.
The Maryland Chicken and the Lobster Pan bring us back year after year.  A bit too pricey to go often, however we really look forward to it each year.

Fantastic flavor and a great relaxing atmosphere.   Great place to go on a cold boring January night with friends.

WARNING: If you have gone Paleo, low carb, or any other carb counting lifestyle, ask your server NOT to bring the bread to your table. However, if you are not counting carbs, then ask them to bring you more bread than you think you will eat. It won't be too much. The bread is buttery, garlicy & poppy seed covered. In short: legal crack from the bakery.
I met some girlfriends here for a large group lunch. I arrived late, but was able to join them & put my order in rather quickly. After that, though, the service slowed. Now, in their defense, it was during Rochester's Fire & Ice festival and there were tons of people milling around the streets, presumably wandering in from the cold. However, I don't think they were *that* busy, where my order of a salad should take 40 minutes to arrive. Thank goodness I was in good company.
I ordered a salad with salmon on top. It was nice, a crisp romaine base with a homemade apricot or peach dressing. There was a lot of salad, so I took some home. (And I sneaked a whole loaf of the bread in my take out box too... shhh!)
In all, it was good food but fair service.

Good family restaurant.  Salad, pizza, bread and pasta dishes are all good.  Seafood is fresh.  The only problem with this restaurant is the long wait on the weekend.

For the price, Kruse and Muer is just not worth it.

The food, in my opinion, is on par with that of Applebees or TGI Fridays, and the service was just so-so.

I ordered the crab cakes, and while they were pretty good, the rest of my dish was so disappointing! The vegetables were overcooked and saturated in butter and the rice pilaf  was boring.  I left both of the sides untouched.

My favorite part of the meal, honestly, was the unlimited bread they give you.  Luckily, I ate almost two entire loaves by myself, so I left full and happy.

The ambiance of the restaurant IS very nice... it's so warm and cozy and it was very busy (at 7:15 pm on a Friday night).

I don't think I'll be back, but I'm hoping I just ordered the wrong dish!  Good luck with this one, Yelpers!

The hostess was meh...upon entering and leaving. We were prepared to leave after being told there would be an hour or longer wait. Just as we were getting to the door a waitress or second hostess stopped us and asked us if we would mind sitting at a high top in the bar, which is first come, first serve. We were elated  and thankful that she stopped us!

George, our waiter, was laid back but very efficient. We never waited too long for anything and he never hovered. He forgot to bring bread, but no biggie.

Food: Shrimp cocktail, not worth the 9 $ Definitely not jumbo shrimp...barely fit the large category. They (5) were arranged nicely on the plate, a dallopp of white/dill tartery sauce and a small mix of leaf greens/grape tomatoes. The shrimp lacked flavor. The sauce was good.

The Sante Fe Mahi was FABULOUS and worth every $$. A very nice, firm piece of mahi, perfectly blackened/seasoned, grilled. It was topped with a lobster/shrimp/crabcake and 2 asparagus stalks. SOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOD.  The creole sauce was light and I would have liked a drizzle across the mahi. This was served with a side of rice. Very good flavor.

The clam chowder wasn't as much a chowder as it was a cream /bisque soup. I think I had one bit of potato in my soup, but certainly not all the yummy things that the menu described. The flavor was very good.

Hubs had the house salad. He thought it was a salad. The dressing was very flavorful, but wasn't really keen on the fruit bits.

Sangria: good but a little on the watered down side. Our serving was smaller than some of the others that were served around us. I thought perhaps there were two size options and we chose small serving.

Best place in Rochester for a date in my opinion - whether its a first date of date night with your spouse (not that I would know about that lol). The food is out of this world from the bread and oil you start with the deserts you end with... the staff is always on top of everything from greeting and seating you to dropping of the check. I highly recommend K&M for a date night anynight...

Walked in to celebrate our 52nd anniversary.  Asked for seating in the front (recommended), and got a lovely table for two.  Great waitress ERIN, and  so much attention, you would have thought they knew we were celebrating.  The staff is so attentive and the food is so good.  VINCENT, I think a manager was all over, checking to see if people were happy.  Asked us if we would like to try a small portion of their crab cake app. which we happily devoured, after having amazingly fresh oysters on the half shell,, and calamari to die for.

Hubby has his favorite fresh fried oysters, and  I had a dish I loved, Shrimp, lobster panbake.  I don't think they haveanything seafood they don't know how to cook with love.

Please go and try, fantastic food, great people. and we will be back!

I went to Kruse & Meur today for the first time with friends; WOW.  All of the food was just excellent, especially for the low price.  I had the Martha's Vineyard salad, one of the best salads I've ever had, for $7.50.  Unique and flavorful. I loved the healthy, affordable menu. Service was good - he came to check on us often and was polite and polished.

The only thing I could fault would be the ambiance.  We were at a small table that was half booth, half uncomfortable chairs, across from a mirror.  I don't like watching myself eat!  But everything else was superb.  I will definitely be back again and order the exact same thing - yum!

Had a pretty good meal here with good service. Tried a lot of different things like the walleye, fishermans stew, clam chowder, gazpacho, parmesan-crusted whitefish, bacon corn side dish, mashed potatoes, steak, etc. etc. Everyone was happy with their meals.

One of our favorite places. Great ambiance, amazing seafood, fun bar and all around great, semi-upscale restaurant. My husband and I went here for a drink right after he proposed and we have so many great memories here. You will not feel out of place dressed up or dressed down in jeans. This is a great place to take out of town guests if you want to show them downtown Rochester.

I normally skip the bread basket, but they make their own bread and it is totally worth the carbs!

If you are looking for a night in, Kruse & Muer makes great take-out pizza for an awesome deal. It also comes with a salad with their house dressing (wish I could buy it by the bottle). You can also buy their dough to to make pizza at home.

Our waitress wasn't awful but she was pretty dog-gone bad. We waited a very long time for her to take our order. She seemed very rushed when speaking with us. We noticed she had patrons outside as well as inside to take care of. She carried out to our table two roles of bread that were cradled under her arm a little too close to her armpit for my liking. She served us our water, one of the rolls of bread and moved on to another table to deliver their bread to them. If we thought the wait to have her take our order was long, Lord was the wait for her to stop by and deliver our bill ever a long wait.

I am not a huge fish eater but I must say the Fried Whitefish was THE best fish meal I have ever had! The coating was crispy and seasoned perfectly. The fish was hot, flakey and tender. The white sauce that was served with the fish was tangy and complemented the fish in a delectable way. Used very little sauce on my fish but what little I used really went a long way for the ol' taste buds. The accompanying pasta salad with cranberries and corn in it was also very tasty...but OH that fish!!

Can't really go wrong here.  We made reservations on a Friday night for 8:00pm and didn't get a seat until 8:30, we had party of 10.  They apologized for the delay and gave us 3 free appetizers.  It made up for the wait... even though we all bought a couple cocktails while we waited.

Cant go wrong here...everything is solid but little stands out. Restaurant is a little dated in appearance but you wont be uncomfortable eating there. The highlights are the soups and the bread...order a ton of bread!! Best in town!!!

Overall good food at a decent price. There are better options in Rochester but you wont feel like you made a bad decision stopping here.

I could eat the bread ALL DAY.
Would probably vomit, but it's worth it.

Like their food a lot.  Not the most innovative options, but some interesting specials that change often.

My mom thinks it's fancy.  We'd go there a lot for birthdays or family events when I was younger.  Now, I'd stop in on a weeknight for no wait and better service.

We went here on New Years Eve and had outstanding service.  They give you some free bread which is really good. I got the twin filet minon and was very impressed.
My fiancé had some chicken and pasta and liked hers also.
The prices here are very good.
Dinner for two and drinks costs us $50

It's a fun place and they do a very good job.  Anyone that complains about how long it takes to get a seat should realize this is a slightly fancy restaurant and you really should put in a reservation.  I did on a busy Friday night and we were seated just moments after we arrived.

The food is excellent and complimented by an extremely attentive staff.  Of course for the higher prices I would expect nothing less and they hit the mark.

I really wish I could give them 5 stars, I really do but for the price of everything I found the noise level in the dining area to be just shy of annoying.  Taking my mom there for her birthday and having difficulty casually talking was unfortunate.

    Generally, a disappointment based on:
Had to wait ten minutes to be seated despite having a reservation.
There was a small bug in my wine, which the wine was replaced but...
    The restaurant was extremely noisy.
    The mahi-mahi was just OK

1 star is for the bacon wrapped bbq shrimp: the only upside to my experience.

-3 stars: My salad was 90% iceberg lettuce and wilted to hell.  The waitress saw that I wasn't eating it and asked if she could get me something else.  I declined but suggested that they refrain from serving salad of that caliber to other guests.  As a result, the manager came over to check on us.  He was standoffish and rude and basically told me the salad was fine and it was the dressing that made it look like the lettuce was browning. Thanks for intentionally trying to make me feel like a moron, guy! I've never been more uncomfortable in a restaurant.

The main course was bland and unsatisfying.

    I will not be returning.

I was pretty happy when my first visit to Kruse & Muer wrapped up, despite the circumstances: our reservation for six had been made at one of the other Kruse & Muer restaurants (their fault, not ours), and we had to wait about an hour and 15 minutes on a Thursday night for a table. Turns out the waiting area is highly trafficked by the servers, so for an agonizing amount of time we were not only starving but constantly having to move around to let them through, and my brother-in-law got hit in the head with a tray of food.

However, the manager kept checking in with us and apologizing, and when we were finally seated, they treated us to two complimentary appetizers: the fried calamari with lemon beurre blanc and fried "razmatazz" shrimp that was a special of the day. Both were really tasty, as was the hot poppy seed bread. Our server, Brian, was stellar; all that plus a glass of wine, and I was happy to put the long wait behind me.

One of my in-laws who used to be a frequent diner here recommended anything with a sauce, which he said they did quite well. I ordered the parmesan-encrusted shrimp, served on angel hair pasta with campari tomato sauce and a mozzarella cake; it was fantastic! I scarfed the whole thing despite my stomach's protests.

I'd definitely return to Kruse & Muer, but only after getting reservations and a paycheck.

The place was busy, but not packed.  Took roughly 10 minutes to order drinks from the bar.  Wine list was sparse.  When we sat down we asked the server Katie about which was her favorite Pinot Noir.  She had to look at the menu and had no idea what was good and was unable to describe any of the wines on the list.  To her defense, she did offer to bring a taste of the wine.

The food was average, steaks over cooked and the fish was obviously plated long before everything else was ready.  The bread was awesome, but with such great bread, could they have better butter than store bought?  No creativity.

At the end of the meal, the server was so interested in leaving that we ended up losing our desire for dessert and drinks.  She was much more interested in leaving than taking care of us.  I was told this place was great, but I do no plan on giving it a second chance.  It was my brother's birthday and felt like we had let him down.

This is quite possibly my favorite restaurant and I could go on and on and on about it, so I'll try to keep this reasonable.

Ambiance:  super friendly and homey.  You feel like you belong here as soon as you walk in the door.  The bar is great, with a tremendous drink selection and skilled bartenders mixing drinks.  The wait staff is always very courteous, fast, and accurate.  They also tend to know the menu very well and can make great suggestions.

Food:  for starters, the bread is out of this world - piping hot bags of it get delivered to your table as long as you keep asking for them, so carb counters beware because you won't be able to stop!  In terms of selection, there is something for everybody, but the menu isn't some unwieldy behemoth of a thing.  Instead, they make sure that every dish they offer is simply outstanding.  My fiance and I always start with crab cakes, and I've never had better...even on the East coast.  The house salad is something else you cannot pass up - the dressing is the best I've ever had, and the addition of melon and grapes makes this truly unique and out of this world!

Seafood lovers will be right at home here - the fish is always fresh and expertly prepared.  I've never had anything under, or more importantly, overcooked here.  The selection is great, ranging from perch to swordfish, and everything in between.  Definitely a great place to get a fish fix.  If you're a soup fan, try the seafood stew or clam chowder...both are fantastic.

Steak fans are also going to be in for a treat here.  They offer multiple different cuts and will cook exactly to your liking every time without fail.  Quite simply, they do steak well - also give the zip sauce a try!

Drinks:  they have a full bar and a great wine menu.  Despite the very high quality of the food and drinks, prices are very reasonable.  There will be something for everybody whether you're a beer, wine, or liquor drinker, they have you covered.

Kruse and Muer is an awesome place to eat - go there and you will not be disappointed.  Be aware that this is a very popular restaurant, though, so don't be surprised when there is a bit of a wait!

First of all....the bread! OMG...if you are on a diet, tell them not to bring it to the table. It is always so hot and loaded with poppy seeds.

Very cool ambiance, romantic at night if you sit at the right table. The food was awesome....fried fish sandwich, blackened salmon sandwich and linguine were prepared perfect!

I visited yesterday with my mother, grandma and aunt. We had great service . But the coolest part of our meal is when our server (Jennifer) brought us a dessert at the end of the meal and said " I am assuming this is your mom and grandma...and it sounds like you guys are having so much fun. I lost my mom and grandma last year and I would give anything to have lunch with them. I just wanted you to enjoy a dessert on us and appreciate the time you have together today".

Of course, all of us started crying :) Great experience!

After a fellowed Yelper raved about Kruse & Muer, I ventured out to Rochester to give it a shot.

I must say: I loved the atmosphere. As others have mentioned, the butcher-black paper and crayons made it fun.

I came to Kruse & Muer for one purpose only: I wanted to try the pizza. When it arrived at the table, my eyes gleamed with anticipation. The crust was full of hearty flavor, the cheese was "oh so yummy" as my dining companion put it, and the sauce had just the right hint of herbs.

I'm not in Rochester often, but I'd definitely return to Kruse & Muer.

After reading the positive reviews, I decided to have my birthday dinner here. I had made a 7 o'clock dinner reservation, but my love and I found ourselves to be rather peckish by 5 o'clock, so we decided to arrive early.

We were seated in the dining area parallel to the bar. Our server came by, introduced himself and took our drink orders. I was disappointed that the drink specials advertised in front of the restaurant were only for the bar--I guess I hadn't read the chalk board closely enough. I opted for water, deciding to grab that $5 margarita after dinner if I was still up for it.

There were too many options to choose from, so we had quite a time deciding what to order for dinner. We knew we wanted to start with the crab cakes, so we put in our order and munched on the complimentary bread while we perused the menu.

The bread was pretty good. I know, after all of the reviews saying that the bread is "addicting," I say, "pretty good"? Okay--It was freshly out of the oven, lightly brushed with olive oil, slightly salted and covered with poppy seeds. The consistency of the bread put me in mind of freshly-made bagels. So, fine, the bread was delicious, and adding butter would've been an affront to mankind, but . . . I love bread for being bread. Their bread roll was maybe too savory for me. Just call me a Plain Jane, I guess. My sweetheart loved it, though. He rarely enjoys pre-dinner bread, but he gladly ate his share and eyed my portion, too.

After we put in our orders, the crab cakes arrived. These were probably the best crab cakes I've ever had. The crab cakes were soft and moist with juicy chunks of crab meat and little to no bread filling. The dipping sauce was the perfect touch. It also came with a small fruit medley topped with a poppy seed dressing, which was also very nice. I wish we'd ordered more than one plate.

The server came by to take the plate and wondered if we would like another roll of bread. Why, yes, we would! He came by with another roll, which we gobbled up while we waited for our house salads to come out.

I chose the house salad with the house dressing (a honey, Dijon mustard vinaigrette, I think?), which I really enjoyed. It was a lovely break from the usual salad dressing offerings of Italian or ranch. My darling decided to add goat cheese to his salad, so I assume you can custom make any kind of salad you desire.

After our salad plates had been cleared away, the main entrees arrived. I'd ordered potato encrusted salmon and my love got the stuffed flounder.

I stared at my plate in mild confusion because it looked like a steamed fillet of salmon topped with hash browns . . . and it was. I decided to taste it, and it was all right, not spectacular. Despite the dish not being what I'd imagined, I wasn't in the mood to kick up a fuss and/or send it back to the kitchen. We shared our entrees with one another, so that I wasn't stuck with entire plate steamed salmon and hash browns. My love's entree was rich and delicious.

My darling asked the server if they did anything special for birthdays since it was my birthday, and the server replied in the positive. A few minutes later, he arrived with a birthday sundae complete with a candle on top! Of course, I had to pose prettily for pictures before blowing out the candle.

I would give the service 3 stars. Our server seemed kind of put-out. I hate reading reviews complaining about servers being less than jovial, but it really seemed like he wasn't into it--at least with us. A couple of regulars got seated next to us, and he sat down with them, chatted them up and took their order in such a manner that I wondered if one had to be a regular to get that kind of friendly, down-to-earth service. Well, at least he kept my water cup full.

The ambiance of the restaurant gets 3.5 stars. I feel it could be a little more upscale if my entree is going to average around $18-$20. I do like that you can draw on your tabletop with crayons. My sweetheart drew a very cute "Happy Birthday" to me on it, which I decorated with flowers and mini stick figures of ourselves with the exact outfits we were wearing. My inner child was clapping with glee.

I would give the food 4 stars. Just be careful with what you order, and listen to the keywords from your server. Our server said the entree I ordered was "less rich" than my partner's. In my head, that meant "less calories," not "less flavor."

Overall, I'll give them another chance or two because I think I just ordered the wrong thing, and it looks like they have great happy hour specials at the bar.

I hate to do this, but this restaurant used to be phenominal. I'm wondering if they just can't handle the holiday Christmas lights rush, or something? Did the management change recently?  Husband and I went out of our way to eat there tonight (White Lake to Rochester) and it was awful at best.  The usually amazing bread, was greasy - first clue. My starter salad, all the white part and gross slimey over green part of the lettuce. My filet, asked for medium and got a hockey puck floating in some coagulated attempt at a teriyaki sauce (although the menu said wine glaze). Husband's "Charleys Chowder" was ice cold by the time it made it to the table after waiting for the server (who was WAY overwhelmed). My "rice pilaf" wasn't recognizable, I'm not sure what that was. Dessert was ok (hot fudge brownie) although the brownie tasted burnt.  Coffee - HORRIBLE.

I'll go back though, because I just can't believe this happened. This seriously used to be my favorite restaurant (outside of a few Royal Oak faves).

I hope this was a one time nightmare!  It would be a shame.

PS:  my chair was placed in an impossible spot, it got kicked about 84,000 times while I was trying to enjoy my meal.  I was actually slugged in the head by one server who was trying to manuever past me (it was an accident, waiting to happen).

After skipping out for dinner at the Rochester Mills Brewery because of bad service, we decided to try this place out. I had been told this place was very good. I'm glad I made the choice. I had the martha's vineyard salad, and the seafood ravioli, with a glass of white wine, and my guest had a pizza which she said she enjoyed very much.

The service and staff were great. I would highly recommend this place.

The ambiance at Kruse & Muer on Main is wonderful.  It's a great place to take a date for a romantic dinner.

They have fantastic food and great service.  We love the Maryland Chicken dish, the appetizer bread is absolutely amazing, the Michigan salad is fresh and tasty, and others in our party said the white fish plate was spectacular!

The pricing is in a reasonable range.  We visit this place frequently and have not had a bad experience yet.  Enjoy!

Perfectly cooked fish, delectable pasta dishes and solid salads.  Our server was friendly and attentive.  I dig the butcher-black paper and crayons, too. What can I say, I'm a sucker for that.

The bread here is pretty darn addictive (though not quite so much as Common Grill rolls).  The prices are reasonable, not quite in special occasion territory, but not you every-day lunch or dinner either.

Kruse & Muer seems most of all like a great place to go for a family dinner -- with enough variety on the menu to satisfy little ones to gramps, and enough of a cozy traditional feel to help every member of the group feel at home.

I'd most definitely return to try more if I was in Rochester again with a big appetite!
