The food is good regularly. The Pop Up Pho left more to be desired. The lemongrass shrimp was near inedible. I had to pull largeshards of lemongrass and ginger out of my mouth. The pho, itself, was disappointing. The broth wasn't rich enough and it was lacking in aromatics and flavor. Also where is the thai basil? Stick to the regular or step up your game, Kybecca.

It seems the more I go, the better this place gets.  It just might be my favorite place in downtown Fred.  They recently expanded the store side into another bar and more restaurant seating.  The owner is almost always on site and the staff is extremely knowledgeable and attentive without being annoying.  If you have not tried it here yet - go now!

This place is one of our favorites downtown, we frequent it for Sunday brunch regularly and occassional dinners. Had the crab cakes the other night and they were excellent! Some of the best I have had in a long time.  They had a fresh lemon taste that was wonderful.  My other favorite is the crispy duck and I always ask for it with there homefried potato with brussel sprouts.

I'd have to say that my rating is an average of various experiences I've had a Kybecca.  As a wine bar, they offer something that you can't get elsewhere in Fredericksburg.  The owners at least are knowledgeable and I'd had good experiences when I just go there to unwind with good friends and wine.

Their weekend brunch has also been a mostly positive experience. The waffles are delicious, and I like a number of the other dishes on the brunch menu as well.

And then there was dinner.  Service in the past could be a little erratic, but the menu was a bit more varied.  The new chef has definitely taken things in an Asian fusion direction and there is very little choice on the menu these days. Kybecca used to be good for wine and small plates - not a lot of small plates to choose from now. And just about everything seems to be tempura fried(they even put it in the shrimp and grits!!) so if you don't want tempura, you might want to go elsewhere. I've had good Asian fusion, but this is not it. Seriously, most of the dishes here taste very similar  to things I could get at Noodles for a fraction of the price.  To top it off, the foods and the wine really didn't pair all that well.  The old menu, perhaps with a few tweaks, would have been much better for that.

Kybecca used to have a good cheese and meat plate. However, you now get no choice and are simply stuck with whatever the 3 cheeses of the day are. And there's usually at least 1 cheese on there that no one at the table wants to eat at any given occasion.  And, given the new food direction, the much-loved bison sliders that most folks I know always ordered here are now gone. Kybecca has changed a lot, but not all change is good.

Kybecca is a classy establishment. The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed. Service is efficient and attentive, yet not overbearing. I sampled several of their seasonal cocktails including the Pimm's cup, a sidecar, and a blackberry bourbon concoction. Each one was fabulous. The food was simple, but fresh and flavorful. All in all, it is a great place to relax with friends and enjoy good food and drinks.

Three stars seems low at first but, according to yelp's guidelines, does after all mean "A-OK".  I'd say that's about right for where kybecca is today.

The older reviews of the food, in my experience, do not at all accurately reflect the current state of affairs.  There has been a recent change of the head chef, and while I can't comment on how things used to be the food now was of good portion size (left full, but not yet hating myself for eating too much) and very good but not excellent.  Key part of that is "very good", don't let "not excellent" carry too much weight, they only need to make a few final tweaks to hit the excellent mark.

Decor is in a state of change as well, the retail wine section is now open for dining (and was where we were seated).  It was comfortable, although at capacity might be a little crowded for some tastes.

Pricing was reasonable for the area, a bit higher than those accustomed to the Richmond market will be used to but not out of line for NoVA at all.

In short what was once "just" a wine shop is now becoming a serious player in the town's restaurant scene.  While they may not yet be the best they seem to be moving in all the right directions, and I'd put them on par with any of their competition.  Bonus, you can definitely get away with a less formal look there than at some of the neighbors.

I've been going to Kybecca off and on for a couple of years now.   They are best known for being a wine bar, and their (now closed) wine store.  Don't let that scare you off if you are not a wine person.  I will admit, I'm not a huge wine drinker and I certainly don't have any special wine knowledge.   It doesn't matter because they have a very good selection of bottled beers and I always find something I like.

The atmosphere is good.  It is upscale without being pretentious.  The food is good and has actually been improving both in quality and quantity.  They used to give pretty small portions, especially for the price, but I have found that has changed in the last half year or so and the portions are pretty decent.   I went for their All-you-can-eat mussels night recently and the mussels were awesome.  Very tasty.  Of course with Mussels you have to have Frites, so we ordered some of those as well and a huge side dish of perfectly double-fried Belgium style frites came out.   I've been to Brussels many times for work and I can say this meal was better than most Moules and Frites meals I've had over there.

As for the wines, I can't speak much on that with any authority.  As I said I am not a big wine drinker.  I know they have a big selection, though some seem a bit pricey to me.  Thats just wine for you I guess.  I'll mostly stick with the beer.

    This restaurant is going places.

Chef Wade has taken over the kitchen, and is making bold moves with the menu.

My date and I went in on a Saturday night around 8pm, and were able to be seated without an issue. You can call ahead, but they don't take reservations for parties of two.

We sat at a hightop table next to the Enomatic machines, home of 24 wines on tap. They've got a great wine by the glass selection as well, but we heard that they still had some Bell's Hop Slam left. $7 for a palate wrecking IPA that you can't find anywhere? Yes please.

We looked at the specials and decided to share the three new specials.

The first course was Tempura Fried Oyster Mushrooms over Udon Noodles with Finger Peppers and a Ginger-Scallion Sauce. Get this as long as it is on the menu.
One of the best dishes I've had recently.

The second course was Fried Shrimp over Chorizo spiked Grits with peppers and wilted watercress and capers. This dish has some spice to it, balanced by the watercress. Definitely a bold refreshing of a dish which has been on the menu since they opened.

The third course was the 'Slam Ham', a thick cut grilled pork chop that had been marinated in Bell's Hop Slam, served over creamy polenta. The beer marinade (beerinade?) gives the pork a sweetness and nice caramelization on the grill.

We were stuffed by the time dessert rolled around, but attempted to persevere, splitting a Gluten-Free Chocolate Nemesis and a Coconut Stout Tiramisu. The Chocolate Nemesis is a cross between a flourless cake and an Italian budino. It has a creamy, almost fudgy texture, and was served with crushed almonds, finger peppers and a sprinke of sea salt. Just eat this. It's gluten free, and delicious.

The Coconut Stout Tiramisu uses Southern Tier's Mokah Stout and shaved coconut for a rich flavor profile while retaining a light texture.

We paired both desserts with Left Hand Brewery's Nitro Milk Stout. Great balance and malty sweetness to the beer, which is lighter than you'd think.

All in all, a great dinner out. If you tried them before and it wasn't your style, I encourage you to give them another shot. They've got a revamped menu, and a great kitchen staff putting out new and exciting food. They're going places.

Very limited and expensive menu. Also, a lot of their menu involves shrimp. So, if you have a shellfish allergy, like me, I do not recommend going.

I like this place.  I like it a lot.  This is the kind of establishment that Fredericksurg needs.  They don't mess around with the food, everything is delicious.  Crazy selection of wines to sample for a pretty reasonable price.  The beer selection is also really good.  They have a bunch of stuff you have probably never heard of.  You really can't go wrong with a joint that has good booze and awesome local ingredients (Buffalo, anyone?).  Now that I am thinking about it, I need them to make me some more crabcakes.  I will be back soon!

Since writing my first review, we've gone back to Kybecca multiple times.  I'd say we average two times a month and have always had a fantastic dining experience.

My wife loves the wine machines as they allow you to sample a wide selection of new wines.

The food is delectable.  We normally get a couple of small plates and some frites to share.

The perfect evening is grabbing a bottle of wine, some small plates, sitting on the patio and listening to the live music on Thursday or Friday evening.

Lively, but service is a little slow. Good wine selection but, Warm red wine, in a wine bar? OK, but nothing special. It is the best wine bar in Fredericksburg so if in fredericksburgnand looking for a wine bar.....

Very nice wine bar with great atmosphere. There are "enomatic" machines with about 25 bottles to choose from, but the cost can add up.

The food is fantastic and the service is great.

    Would repeat.

Fruit flies were EVERYWHERE. I complained three times and thought the Manager would come to see us with no such luck. There was no way I would consider eating food with insects flying around. So, I indulged in the covered self-serve wine. At $75 for two people, it was a very expensive evening. I am not sure I will go back.

Kybecca is, without reservation, my favorite restaurant in Fredericksburg.   Although a San Diego, CA resident, I have been sent to VA for 12 of the past 24 months and have frequented the restaurant during that period.   If you are looking for a great place for a first date, anniversary, work party, etc COME HERE!  I have broken this review up into several parts.

    Food
The food here is phenomenal.  The taste, presentation, and quality have vastly improved since Chef Wade Truong took over as Executive Chef in late July.  His dishes are flavorful, fun, and ever changing.  Every Thursday he comes up with 5-8 specials (starters, full plates, and sometimes dessert) that are sure to please even the most discerning and judgmental foodie.  He has breathed new life into this already fantastic restaurant.  Some highlights from my visits over the last month:  Tempura Trout, Lardo Spread, Spicy Duck Confit, and Salmon Gravlax.

    Staff
The wait staff here is absolutely amazing.  The waitresses are gorgeous, and the entire staff is attentive and friendly!  Their knowledge of the specials and wine lists is nothing short of exceptional.  When asked (as I often do), "What would you recommend I order this evening?" they always have a detailed answer and have yet to be wrong.  With weekly menu changes, this is a feat in and of itself.   What holds it all together is the professionalism exhibited by the owners/managers Rebecca and Matt.  It is readily apparent to any patron that communication flows freely in this place of business.  The end result of this professionalism: A clearly smooth-running operation producing delicious food and an unmatched dining experience.

    Atmosphere
The restaurant features a five seat bar (this is where I normally sit) at which patrons can watch Chef Wade and crew prepare food, mix drinks, and share an always witty and entertaining banter.  In the middle of the restaurant, a beautiful 12-person poured concrete table is ready to serve large groups.  This is where I spent my birthday a week ago and the staff was extremely accommodating.  The rest of the restaurant features tables of varying size, patio seating, a lounge area in front, and an intimate booth area in the back.

    Wine Store
Attached to the restaurant, the Kybecca Wine Store has a variety of delicious wine and they routinely conduct weekend wine tastings.  The wine is very well priced ranging from under $10 to $300.  Matt Thomas, one of the partners, chooses each wine carefully and can tell you about each bottle.  I have yet to purchase a wine that was not delicious!

    Wrapping it up
Kybecca is far and away the best restaurant in Fredericksburg.  Great food, affordable price point, and delightful wait staff culminate in an unforgettable experience.

I went here for an evening happy hour with friends and was very disappointed. I was hoping for an extensive wine list and more "gourmet" level food but this isn't what you get here. Their wine by the glass list is pathetic. They about about two blush wines, 6 or so whites and about 5 reds. Granted, they have a longer list for wine by the bottle but I was not impressed. As for the food, I ordered the steak quesadilla off of the starters menu. When it came I was surprised with the portions- it was more than I thought it would be but the favors were awful. It tasted like black pepper and grease and was impossible to cut because it was SOGGY with grease. You couldn't even pick it up and eat it because it would fall apart. I don't know what cut of beef they are trying to pass off as their "steak" but it was pathetic. It was far more fat and tendons than what should be allowed to be called steak. It was so bad that I literally left hungry.
Now for the service: I was part of a big group and came in a few minutes after the rest of our table and the waitress had to walk past me three times before she realized that I didn't have a menu or a drink in front of me. She didn't have a clue. When she brought the food out she walked all the way around the table asking everyone ( who already had their food in front of them ) who ordered this before realizing it was mine.  Then when came over to check on us after we had been served she asked me if my friend wanted another drink. I'm sorry but it is not my job to ask people at the able what they want. I think that the combination of poor service, low quality food, and limited wine selection really blew this experience for me. Sorry, but I won't be coming back and wouldn't recommend anyone waste their time.

Hubby would probably rate 5 stars based on his brunch dish. He had the corn beef hash and he's still talking about how delicious it was. It had one or two over easy eggs on top with some sort of sauce that might have either tomato or bell pepper in it.  Not sure. It also had scallion oil, which was interesting. Hubby said that all the sauces/oils brightened up a heavy list of ingredients.  He was very happy and wants to come back more often.

I had the yeast-risen waffles. It came with seasonal fruit and it was peach.  The peach slices looked so perfect that they looked canned. Hubby assured me that it wasn't canned and that they must have poached it or something. It also came with vanilla whip cream, which was good but not anything special. I think it needed more maple syrup. They put it on for you. They had cut the waffle in half and put one half over the other waffle piece for presentation but they didn't put maple syrup on the part that was covered by the waffle piece on top.  I was a bit sad that a fourth of my waffle was naked without syrup!  The strawberry drizzle didn't stand out much. I'm not sure a yeast risen waffle is much different from a regular waffle without yeast.

Next time I'm going to try something different. The menu was a bit different from their online menu. I think it might have had more items listed on their menu than they did online.

I have only been here once, and I can only write from my own experiences -- but I absolutely loved kybecca.

We went for dinner and sat outside. The server was prompt and knowledgeable -- he was able to recommend which beer would go well with the cheese/meats plate, and sure enough it was awesome! Our table got a few small plates to share (including the cheese/meats plate) and my favorite by far was off of their specials menu, the lime baby back ribs. So amazing. When they were brought out to me, the server recommended that I take a bite, then squeeze the slice of lime over them and try it again -- it made a huge difference!

Altogether, delicious food, good drinks (though I stuck with beer and didn't try anything from the machines inside), and great service. Maybe I just went on an especially "on" day, but I'm sold. If I'm ever in Virginia again, kybecca, you have my heart (and my stomach!).

    Kybecca is A-OK with me.

I've been here twice, but this was my first time for food. I opted for the crab cakes and thought they were nicely cooked with little filler. I liked the wine setup, but as another reviewer stated, you'll probably go broke using the machines. Best bet is to buy a bottle and pay the corking fee. For desert we had the smores. Oh my goodness, little bit of heaven on earth. Delicious, but be sure you share with your group, its too much for one person! :)

Ok, the not so great. Our waiter and the staff completely forgot our appetizers. We wanted to remind him, but by the time he came around to check on us, our main courses had already been served. No point in making a stink by that time. Also, I felt like there was no sense of urgency to get us more to drink. I was constantly seeing if I could flag someone down and get another ice water.

Overall, I dont think its as bad as some reviewers have noted, but I do think they have an opportunity to better themselves in the waitstaff category.

    3.5 stars.

Disappointed.  Finally got there tonight after considering this place for weeks and after a really small meal and greatly over priced wines....and slow service, I'm disappointed.  I told the waitess I liked malbec and merlots and she suggested a red zin which I accepted...$12 ...ironic because the malbec is $7 and just a better tasting wine for me.  Food good, but not worth the price or portion.  Too bad, nice place but overall I can't imagine going back unless it's the $3 night.

Lousy food, though cannot fault service.  Supposedly smoked salmon salad tasted like canned salmon.  Much of the lettuce in the salads had begun to compost.  The hummus was mostly tahini, not garlicky or otherwise tasty. It came as a scoop with a depression containing a lot of oil that had to be decanted, in order to avoid making a mess. We gave up when we found a hair in the food. The place was pretty empty when we went in. When we complained about the food, they asked us to leave, although they did not charge us for it.   I'd be surprised if they are still open in 6 months.

I have been dragged here repeatedly by friends since the night they opened. The service is epically poor. The food is inconsistent and, at times, barely edible. I do like the Enomatic machines since they allow you to sample different wines, but drinking for an evening from them is prohibitively expensive. Actually, the best part about the Enomatic machines is that you can serve yourself without having to wait for their horrible servers.  You won't get attention, water or food in a timely fashion....but you can at least soothe your frustration with your self served wine.

Your best bet is to buy a bottle of wine at their store next door and pay the corkage fee.

Having eaten here countless times over the past several years, I have absolutely no idea how someone can give them a rating greater than two stars. All of the four and five star ratings are suspect. The people giving these very high ratings obviously have no idea about decent food or service.

Diner beware. You have been warned.

I really enjoyed this place. The shrimp and grits were amazing, done in the southern style with lots of butter. Their wine selection is fabulous and the staff is quite knowledgeable to help you  choose the right pairing  It is a little pricey
but I still highly recommend it as that they do have affordable options.

I live a few blocks away and always buy wine here. I began going after they expanded and opened the bar, hoping it would be interesting and dynamic. It was for about a month. Dishes have become wildly inconsistent, often inedible, or ridiculously skimpy - one day they gave us minute smears of soft cheese on their cheese "platter" and piles of too-thin shavings of meat on the charcuterie plate. They have attitudes that range from careless to hostile for no real reason. It's a shame - you'd think they'd value customers in a small town. We only go now if our musician friend is playing there. Bistro Bethem just up the block, or Castiglia's across the road are warm and friendly, with fresh food, and such better value.

Dinner at Kybecca was kind of a let down. My boyfriend and I, who are huge restaurant connoisseurs, went there expecting to have good food, a glass of wine and ya decent price, and what we received were our 3rd choices of what we wanted because they were out of almost everything (at 8 o'clock on a Tuesday night...), one appetizer and 1 (very small) glass of wine. Our bill was $78!! Not worth the price at all.  Food was okay at best. Also, for that pricey meal the bathroom (single) should be in better shape with a toilet that doesn't wobble. We are not normally ones to complain about a pricey meal if it's worth it, but we felt cheated by this meal.

Well, that sucked. Big time. The seats were so uncomfortable that we couldn't wait to leave. High up stool like chairs with no support. The beef was so rare I couldn't eat it (I can't eat raw/rare/bloody) and didn't want to wait in the uncomfortable chairs for them to cook it more. Understand when I say rare, I mean blue.  Raw in the middle.  The regular chairs and tables we were told were for groups only. Ok, well the groups just lost you our business. The food was tasty, but not enough to deal with the seating again.

Have been coming to Fredericksburg on business for a while now, and it has been difficult finding good places to eat out (that is if you want something other than typical college town grub).  Found this place and tried it out, and it was a great meal.  They have a great wine list as well as beers.

We had the thai curry mussels (cooked perfect), lobster bisque (a little bland but the lobster was very tender), bison & bleu sliders (awesome, think gourmet Krystal's) and then finished up with the truffled beef tenderloin and short ribs.  The short ribs were the more flavorful and better of the two dishes in my opinion.

I'll definitely be back if I'm in town.

I have been to Kybecca about 4-5 times because I love the concept. I am from California where wine is everywhere and occasionally great food comes along with it. Since I am  a resident of downtown and a wine enthusiast,  I really wanted to like you kybecca! To be completely honest, your service sucks, and while I understand the concept of tapas and how they come out, that should not be an excuse as to why the server rarely came to the table.
Unfortunately this did not happen on just one occasion, rather it happened every time I dined there. Sigh.
The food is alright, the atmosphere is a little too cold, and the wine selection is mediocre at best. French wines are not always the best wines and a particular Georgian wine tasted like it had been aged in the belly of a goat. I'm just sayin'.

I give Kybecca 3 stars for ambiance, 2.5 stars for food, 5 stars for wine and 2 stars for price.  Yeah, that might not = 4 stars, but whatever.

I've been here twice now.  Once just for wine on a busy Saturday night and once for my birthday dinner on a slow Wednesday.  The Saturday night was awesome.  There was live music playing and we happened to score the last table available.  This place is pretty small, so don't come in a big group on the weekend and expect to get a seat.  The wine was delicious and the service was decent.  The atmosphere is kind of urban and modern at the same time.  The tables and lighting looks like it came right out of an IKEA catalog.  I love the clear wine bottles used for serving water, but that's about it.

Last night, I came for my birthday dinner with my husband and again, the wine was awesome.  So good, I want to come back to their retail store next door and buy some.  For dinner, we ordered a variety of appetizers to share: Charcuterie (meats & cheeses w/bread & crackers), Lobster Mac & Cheese and Bison Sliders.  The Charcuterie was just okay.  It was $14 for four tiny, and I mean tiny portions.  We liked the cheeses, but the meats weren't very good.  The Bison Sliders were awesome, I would totally get them again, but the $13 Lobster Mac & Cheese was a big disappointment.  I'm not sure if the lobster wasn't very fresh or what, but the mac & cheese was really fishy.  My hubby said it tasted like Tuna Helper.  Plus, it wasn't cheesy at all; the inside was really saucy and thin.

Kybecca is a nice place to go for some wine and maybe listen to some live music, but I wouldn't come back for a full dinner.  Next time I come I'll get the Bison Sliders again and try out their hummus.

Strangely, most of the restaurants in the Old Town section of Fredericksburg seem to go into hibernation between 2pm and 5pm. This didn't look too good for two hungry gals at 2:30pm... until we found that Kybecca was open and serving brunch.

The waffles were excellent and so was the coffee. My friend quite liked her shrimp and grits, although the portion was a bit skimpy for the price.

We split the pumpkin cheesecake with nutella ice cream for dessert. The ice cream part was not good - it was painfully sweet and had an unpleasant consistency. The pumpkin part was definitely not a cheesecake, but was delicious - dense, lightly sweet, and ever so pumpkiny!

Overall, the food was tasty and the service was great.

The food was good but overall experience below average. They were out of the app I wanted (at 7pm...and they were advertising it on their specials board). The service was really weak, especially when you consider the place was less than half full. Their whole premise is based on wine and they gave me zero input on my wine selections when I asked. They all seemed a little flustered. Buffalo sliders and zucchini app were good.

First, let me say this is in Fredericksburg. As a 6th generation Virginian who was born and raised in Fredericksburg, we need places like this. If you've been to Kybecca and are not planning on going back, give it another chance. This place is truly unique and will act as a trailblazer for more investment in downtown. We need places like this downtown.

Enomatic: This has one purpose to me and that is the opportunity to try expensive wine that would normally not be served by the glass. Would you spend $7 for a tasting from a $100 bottle? If that doesn't interest you, then skip the Enomatic all together.

Food: Kybecca is a bit more than just Tapas. They have real food if you want it. They use local ingredients (the Buffalo from Culpepper is amazing!) Try their lobster mac and cheese.

My only suggestion: I think there should be two different sizes for brunch portions. Of course I can add an egg here or there and throw in some toast but I needed more of that corned beef hash! I understand they are keeping with their concept and that I can get a big heavy brunch anywhere. It would just be nice to have the option for a larger portion of certain things for a little more money. I is most definitely worth it.

Beer: They have a decent selection of beer by the bottle. I would like to see it grow.

Wine: Great choices of by the glass wine and plenty by the bottle.

Dynamism is the name of the game at Kybecca. Every plate we ordered was spectacular, and more importantly, was new. To be fair, I'm still a little drunkles from the spectacular ::beer:: selection (at a wine bar! I KNOW!), but wow. It sums up the evening when my boyfriend and I agreed that the food was better than our recent experience at db Bistro Moderne in NYC. And 2/3 the price. And we had more alcohol at Kybecca.

We ordered 5 tapas: lentil salad, red pepper hummus, marinated olives, anchovies, and mac 'n' cheese. With the exception of the mac, these light dishes demanded a light alcohol pairing - both of us ordered beers on the lighter side. Beers, Dean? Really? At a wine bar? Yes! Go downstairs from the wine shop and you'll find a selection of quirky, off-the-beaten-path beers that are deserving of more mention than a week at Capital Ale.

And as I started with, every dish was "dynamic." The lentil salad with feta blended a good kick from the arugula with lentils that could, without it, be bland. The salty from the feta, the acid from a touch-over-dressed dressing (so we aren't all perfect), everything came together to build a remarkable depth of flavor in a salad. My boyfriend is now an anchovy believer - I just wanted the bread to dip in the anchovy oil, infused with enough garlic to end the date right there. Which, ps, is still not enough garlic for me.

Simple fresh olives were transformed by a sophisticated marinade. I got fennel, a little citrus, and perhaps mint, although I'll have to go back and look at the menu to figure out what was actually in it. Move over briney, pickled olives with your pungent palate coating - these were like little cleansers that we kept coming back to. And of course, mac 'n' cheese 'n' lobster. Although perhaps best called "bowties 'n' cheese," the creamiest, heartiest of our dishes. It could've stood a bolder beer than we had. Next time, I will just have 3 pots of this please. Although, maybe with bigger chunks of lobster - while there was a lot, it was diced up far too much. What I crave from lobster is that bite, that meaty tender lobster. Otherwise, I'd have crab.

Dessert was a pound cake panino with nutella and strawberry. Light, luscious, and a perfect end. I had an amazing Madeira dessert wine full of caramel to wash it down. My boyfriend opted for a coffee-noted porter. Both were fantastic.

So, Dean, if this was so good, why not 5 stars? In addition to the small nitpicky details above, we found: a hair in the salad, and a large piece of foil in the dessert (likely from the nutella jar seal). While I'm a tremendous fan of classy-without-stuffy, great-food-with-casual-atmosphere, the low key environment with high profile eats still demands that attention must be paid. To details, at least. A heavy hand with a salad dressing, and extraneous bits in the food, are the missed details for 5 stars.

Kybecca is important for the gastronomic development of Fredericksburg.  They are clearly striving to offer something that would not otherwise exist in the area.  The locals for the most part enjoy beer, not wine; and when they seek out beer, it is going to be from a major U.S. distributor or maybe a glass of the locally made Fred Red Ale.  Introducing a wine bar into the town, is a radical suggestion really.  It is a bit pricy for the UMW students, for example.  The food selections even have sophistication.  I remember looking for Taleggio cheese when I lived in the area pre-Wegmans and garnering the most dumbfound looks I ever seen, yet Kybecca happily sold this fine cheese and many like it.  They are quite avant-garde like that.

They have identified something that is really important and key to the food scene in major urban centers, and have sought to reproduce that in charming Fredericksburg.  I see from the other reviews, that the feeling is that they try too hard.  They do, but I really find it to be in a sincere and done in a good way.  They offer tastings, they have a newsletter, they always have specials and strive to make you aware of the latest and greatest of what is available at their bar and shop.  Trust me, I am still getting the emails in New York.  Educating the public in a way that is not belittling is very difficult to do, and I think they are really succeeding at this.  It is just marvelous to have a spot where I can enjoy a lovely glass of wine at an outside table and watch the passersby.  Bravo, for your efforts Kybecca.

So, yes I find the vision to be solid.  The particulars can use some work though.  I think the wine selection could be better by the glass, for example with more varietals and price points.  I enjoy seeing the nice selection of beers though on the reverse side of their drinks menu.  This is a great chance for the odd person out in a group to still enjoy a great drink.  Furniture and decor seems minimalist, but functional.  I thought the chairs were a little bit uncomfortable, but I have seen these very chairs in Manhattan -- go figure.

Highly recommend as there is nothing quite like this place in the greater area.  Sad but true.

I like the idea of this place, just not the owners. they have to high of an expectation for this town. Way to pricey, way to snotty. I am a huge wine drinker, have toured many winderies and held tastings at my home with local wineries. i am educated in the relm. they are not community friendly, but keep it in their own pocket friendly. if you want to talk to them, you better have bought tons of wine. Like i said, this concept is great and greatly needed, just come down to the commoners and see what we look like.

I found myself in the historic district of Frredericksburg and what caught my attention about this place was the misters I saw outside.  I haven't seen anything like that since I was in Palm Springs.

I was drawn to the charm of the place and decided to have a look at the menu.  I was looking for a place that offered a wine flight, but alas I didn't see anything like that.  I was intrigued about the Enomatic machine I saw, but after ordering a simple glass of white, decided I'd give the Enomatics a try on another visit.

I had a seat outside since it was such a nice late afternoon and decided to give the Kybecca Picpoul a try.  I'm glad I did; it's very similar to a Sauvignon Blanc.  Refreshing, crisp, and fruity, it's a steal at 5.50 a glass.  Highly recommended if you're looking for a wine that's nice for a warm day.

I ordered one thing from the specials of the day menu (see photos I attached) and one thing from the regular menu.  The Thai Shrimp Skewers were 6.00 and very good.  The zucchini and red onion had a nice grill taste to them, and the shrimp were cooked perfectly.

The Hummus With Red Peppers and Yellow Peppers (sadly, I didn't get any yellow peppers in my order) is priced at 9.00.  This, I thought, was kinda high for the order.  One thing worth noting is that if you ask for more bread to go with the hummus, they will bring it you at no charge.  The order comes with foccacia that's toasted so perfectly I smiled inside.  The way I define perfection is something that is slightly crispy, slightly soft yet chewy, and doesn't cut up the inside of your mouth.

My waiter was a very pleasant guy and I wish now that I would have take the time to browse through the little gourmet shop inside.

In closing, I really enjoyed discovering this little gem, but I wonder if their prices are in line with some of the menu options....

Kybecca strives for sophistication, but puts the majority of its effort into the decor, rather than the food or service. Prices are extremely high for Fredericksburg ($9/glass - Virginia chardonnay) and, for a wine bar, the selection of wines by the glass was extremely limited (I didn't want to purchase a refill/debit card). The food was overpriced and lacking ($12 lamb chops were woefully small, and overcooked). In addition the staff did not adjust the bill once I pointed out a pricing error.

Kybecca tries really hard to be a trendy little nightlife spot in downtown Fredericksburg, but seriously, how trendy can you be in a Civil War-era town mostly populated by people who actually were THERE when the South won? (Or you'd think it won, from the way people act around here).

The decorations are from Ikea, from the suspended light fixtures to the fake reed grass with glass jar adorning the bar. The crowd is a bunch of thirty-something conservatives who probably work at Quantico or Ft. Belvoir. I did spot two Asian girls, but they were pretty hideous and I think they were with that ugly bald guy who kept staring at my friend the whole time. He even snapped her picture while we were sitting at the table! What a creep!

My companion ordered the French pinot noir, with accompanying cheese plate. I ordered the Argentine red, with the meat plate (You know I love meat). The pinot noir was sweet, and could pass for grape juice. The Argentine red was very bold and had a robust flavor that had me ordering seconds.

The cheese plate had Gorgonzola, Camembert, Wensleydale and a little bit of date cake. Hearing these three cheeses made me feel like I was in a Wallace and Gromit movie... "Oh, I do love a good cheese, Gromit!"

See what Wallace and Gromit are raving about: <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/gH8f__DMFvd7uqY9qgLl7w?select=prkhSarfuFef44l-teTq4A">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>

The meats were assorted thinly sliced, dry and salty pig flesh that I consumed by making little flesh sandwiches with the yummy flat crackers and mini breads provided for the both of us. The meat board came with a sesame, peppercorn, horseradish mustard mixture that tasted great on the sesame crackers.

Check out my meat: <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/gH8f__DMFvd7uqY9qgLl7w?select=v_edh6W235JwgmOurIn-jw">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>

For dessert we got the nutella panini, which is nutella and strawberry slices briefly pressed in the marvelous panini device between two pieces of a confection that resembled pound cake.

    It's really cute: <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/gH8f__DMFvd7uqY9qgLl7w?select=61Ajb-PesyN2eAfjf88RxA">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>

The live music was a little overpowering, but wasn't dreadful. It forced us to lean in realllly close to hear eachother speaking, so I guess it's good if you're on a date and you want to inadvertently break your personal space barriers quickly.

The place is a little pricey: two appetizers, two glasses of wine, and one dessert came to $90.
