Came here for the first time on a late Saturday night. The staff was extremely friendly, warm, and welcoming. This place is your average neighborhood pool hall meant for one thing--hanging out and playing pool. Very relaxed scene with small groups of friends/family, regulars, and young people just there having a good time. This is definitely a good place to come if you are just looking to hang out with a few friends, munch on bar food, have a few drinks, and engage in friendly competition.
Review Source:My boyfriend is really good at pool, and I'm not. So one Friday night we decided to come here so he can teach me how to play.
When you walk in, you get your billiards balls (is that what you call them? noob status) and  the cashier tells you a number of a open table. The guys/employees here are pretty nice and friendly over here. There's a bunch of pool tables around and racks near each table to easily access your preferred stick. My boyfriend and I played for a little over an hour and it was pretty fun.
The establishment itself is very casual... it doesn't have a bar like setting with the dim lights, loud noises and TVs all around (which I expected of regular pool halls) but it is very bright and casual.. which I think explains the "Family" in their establishment name. They were playing good tunes (there's a jukebox), serving food and drinks (beer included) and the crowd was mixed.. everyone was chill and having fun.
As for prices... from what I remember it is $7 an hour to play during the day but $10 an hour to play at night. For single players, it is $6 an hour (forgot if its day, night or both...)
Overall I had a good first time here. I will most likely come back and sharpen my billiards skills :)
Talk about your turn around!! This used to be a place that one would go to and hide from the rest of the world. But congrats are in order for Scott, the new owner. He has not only cleaned the place up but he has successfully attracted the type of customers that are synonymous to the name "Lakewood family Billiards". The atmosphere is great, the food is wonderful, and the service is excellent. Not to mention his wonderful employee Wanda that makes sure everyone is taken care of.
Good job Scott, see you this weekend.
This place might seem old and jagged but I really don't need a fancy pool hall to play pool. Â I come to have some good competitive games with my friends and socialize in between that time. Some people are way too high maintenance and I question why they would be at a place like this? IT"S A FREAKIN POOL HALL PEOPLE
pros
- Awesome Jukebox
I applaud the girl who was hoggin' the jukebox tonight for having great music tastes. DJ Quik, Warren G, Sublime, RHCP? I think I'm in love again
- large amount of tables
comes in handy on Friday and Saurday night because the place gets packed. I prefer to come during the middle of the week at night so it's less crowded
- Owner is awesome
he offered my friends and I to stay 1 hour longer if we wished even when he was closing. He's a  very nice dude that helps out anyone that need assistance.  You could tell he really does care about the people who walk through his door.
Overall this place is great, there might be more modern billiard places out there but this one has everything I need to have a good time.
I use to go to this place a lot a couple of years ago. I've stopped going when I realized that everytime I left the place, my clothes, hair, skin smelled musty from the pool hall. My fiance says it's because of the lack in ventilation.
The place is old, with old tables, old decor, old bathroom, and old kitchen. The food is decent. The owner is a nice guy. The place is pretty family friendly. Every now and then, you'll get the rowdy group of teenagers. There's nothing that really stands out about the place though.
Overall, I've been to better pool halls and that's the main reason why I stopped going to this one.
I live really close to this pool hall and everytime I want to go on a friday or saturday night, so does all of Long Beach. The vibe of the place when people are there is really cool. They have a juke box so you can play some songs but they took out all the old reggae tunes and have lots of rock and old pop. Oh well. Anywho they have beer and snacks. I usually dont go for the snacks since theres a 7-11 two buildings over. Good place to chill and drink a couple of beers with friends.
Review Source:Lakewood Family Billiards is a great pool hall in Lakewood on the corner of Paramount and Carson. They have a great number of full-size pool tables as well as quarter (bar) tables for those of you who like to play smaller sized games.
The owner is a really nice guy who will show you the ropes if you're new to pool. He does a great job maintaining the family environment, though I've never seen anyone under 16 there.
He serves a few things like burgers and fries but they're nothing special. Just the usual thing to have when you're playing pool with the boys (or girls).
All in all, Lakewood Family Billiards is a great place to go if you don't have your own pool table. I can't remember the price right now but I will update this when I get a chance to swing by there again.
4/5 for the almost always quiet environment.
