If I could give -5 stars I would. Â This place is TERRIBLE! Â We waited 40+ minutes for our meals! Â I would NEVER, EVER go to this dump again. Â We left before our meals were delivered. Â We were told 'a big party upstairs slammed the kitchen' - no one from management ever came to our table to apologize. Â I finally sought the manager and proceeded to tell her exactly how we felt. Â Save your TIME and your money and go somewhere else. Â This place is absolutely terrible!
We drove over to JJ Twigs, had some great pizza and it was prepared and delivered in less than half of the time we wasted at DUMPlighter!
Local bar located in downtown Palatine seems to be well liked by area bikers and business people alike. Â The food is surprisingly good bar food and the service was better than I expected. Â There is a great outdoor area upstairs where you can enjoy the view of the town. Â I find myself going back for casual meetings with friends and business associates because I have never had a bad experience here in four years.
Review Source:Lamplighter is a joke and I am forced to go here by my 'friends'; they are clearly not true friends for making me begin my night here. Â People come here to pre-game because it is cheaper than Nellies across the way, but realistically it is not that much cheaper and people pre-game way too hard. Â I have seen way too may fights here and I have avoided quite a few too. Â It is a weird mix of 20-somethings with cougars and old men who are there every night.
Review Source:The Lamplighter is my bar of choice in downtown Palatine. Â It has a better mix of patrons than Nellie's down the road. Â You will see all walks of life here. Â I have always had very friendly service here. Â Come to think of it, even the other customers have always been really friendly to me. Â They may not have the most diverse or extensive craft beer selection, but there are enough options to keep me happy. Â Overall, it's a pretty comfortable place to grab a drink.
Review Source:Kind of a classic older bar in the4 heart of downtown Palatine. Stopped in for lunch there and ordered a Lamplighter burger with fries. Good flavor, sort of a pan fried / grill mix taste. Waitress was good and extremely attentive.
The one thing that bothered me a little was the smell of recent cleaning - kind of that antiseptic odor that I last experienced when I was across the tracks from Lamp's at Bauer's. Strange that two Palatine oldies had this in common for my visits to them.
Prices are reasonable - I'll probably head back there at some point.
Sorry, Lamps. I want to like you and give you more stars and business, but I just can't. I visited Lamplighter Inn way back in the day when it was a dark dungeon, and was, in a word - bored - oh, and a bit skeeved out. Flash forward about 12 years later and I was, in a word - underwhelmed.
It was a beautiful weekend afternoon, and I met a few friends who had saved a table in the sun. We were there with the late lunch crowd, but it seemed as if everyone was just waiting around. I don't know if someone had called in "sick due to beautiful weather" or they were just miserably understaffed. Our server came over to take the drink orders of the late-comers, but failed to bring them back for about 10-15 minutes. And they were just draft beers and waters. And never got the water, despite several requests for them when we were lucky enough to see her return to the rooftop. She never asked if we were interested in ordering more drinks or food, and just didn't seem to give the behind of any miserable rodentia. A few at the table ordered shots, which were eventually delivered in plastic medicine cups that made us all too aware of the cost we just spent on these ridiculous shots. There's something about drinking $6 out of a glass that makes it almost ok. But having childhood flashbacks of children's Tylenol and you lose any sense of satisfaction.
After seeing friends at another table that were struggling to get the food they had ordered, it only confirmed that I will struggle to have a desire to return. Plenty of places where I'd prefer to spend my hard-earned change.
I love Lamps! It's one of my favorite places to go when I'm out in the burbs visiting my friend. She has a few friends who work here, and while they can't drink on the job, it's fun to all hang out, even though they are working. I've only been here once during the weekend and it was extremely crowded. We try to spend most of our time outside, as it gets really hot inside when there are a lot of people. However, most of the time we are there during the week, so there's more room inside to drink, play darts, and hang out. What I love most about Lamps is how laid-back it is. It's not a high-end, fancy bar where everyone is super dressed up and dancing. You can go in sweatpants and have a few beers after work, and no one is going to think less of you.
Review Source:So, I've been here a couple times and it's always been a hoot! Â Most recently my girlfriends and I ran a 5K race in Palatine and decided we deserved a frosty little treat after, so Lamplighters it was! Â We got there at about 11:00am, so no one else was ready to have a frosty treat, but the server didn't seem to mind that we wanted some! Â We ordered a couple beers, sat on their patio and stuffed our faces with waffle fries. Â The waffle fries were fantastic, but the dipping sauces really took the cake! Â It's very reasonably priced and I've always walked out of there satisfied!! I'll be back soon!!!!
Review Source:If you are looking for delicious food, great company, wonderful waitresses, and low key atmosphere, this is your place.
My partner and I went for dinner last month with a couple of friends. We all had a great time. Our waitress was wonderful and the food was delicious. We all had burgers and fries; however, the shining food was the appetizer of fried pickles.
Then last week we went back for lunch because we had such a wonderful time there for dinner. Again, the service was great and fast.
The food this time was even better. I had lasagna with meat balls. I could not eat it all. It was so delicious, but it was so big that it could have easily fed two adults. My partner had a chicken wrap, and he said it was one of the best he has had.
Our friend ordered the Chicken Noodle Soup; unfortunately, they did not have any. So, he settled on the chili. Fortunately, he said the chili was not bad. Of course, right after he finished his chili, the waitress said they had just finished making more Chicken Noodle Soup. He was not happy.
Regardless, this place is great though. If you visit, just expect laid back atmosphere with good food. If you go in with the right mindset, you will leave a very happy customer.
I have been here a few times out at night, but recently went for lunch which was very enjoyable. The restaurant area is cute with all the windows and fake newspaper tablecloths. I couldn't believe what a steal my meal was at $5.49- you can't even get a meal at McDonald's for that. They could totally charge an extra dollar or two and get away with it.
The proximity to the train station is a plus. There are usually some pretty good bands upstairs.
Place gets packed on weekends with college aged drinkers, many of which get blatantly wasted, which is quite entertaining for me. Food is decent, but they have a new kitchen manager who plans on bringing in new items & raising the quality of the food. Mixed drinks are only $4, even on weekends & they're pretty strong; my limit is between 4-7 drinks & on a few occasions, I was basically drunk after two drinks.
Not normally my type of bar; sort of a divey kind of place, but I do like how there is an upstairs & downstairs, and also an outdoor patio & balcony. The jukebox on the first floor bar is a nice one; great selection of music & can be controlled by an app on a smartphone. The dj upstairs on the weekends plays a bunch of top 40, mainstream music. Not really my taste in music, but fun to dance to, especially when intoxicated.
As far as Palatine bars go, this is about the standard. They have a very different downstairs and upstairs bar. I once attended a private 60th birthday on the upstairs bar and had a really good time. I have also gone to the bottom floor to hang out on numerous occasions. It can get really crowded on the weekends and it gets really cramped - not sure what the appeal is.
I would definitely say its good for big groups, bad for quiet groups, and decent on pricing.
Biggest plus: I've never seen a jersey shore looking d-bag in here.
We had my sister's baby shower here this past Sunday. Â They did a FABULOUS job! Â My sister thought we reserved the room, we thought she reserved it. Â So, with 45 mins. before it was to start, we found out it was never reserved! Â Lindsay, Lisa & Lisa did an AMAZING job getting stuff together last minute for us. Â They did a phenomenal job, especially for getting it all together within a couple hours. Â The shower started on-time, and the food was even ready when we had wanted it! Â Thank you so much for all their work. Â They even called in people to work on their day off in order to accommodate us. Â It was much appreciated.
The food was super yummy, too. Â With a short staff, we still had good service. Â There was a TV for the men to watch the football game, so the location was perfect for our shower!
This is a review of the Restaurant part, not the Bar, not the DBags who hang out (I guess) on weekends... and just at lunch time. Â In other words, as a place to eat, not a pickup joint or an entertainment site. Â The room we were in, below the Deck, is unlike the bar area - not dark, not bar like. Â Almost too cheery. Â The food today was just ok. Â The Cobb salads were pretty much ok, but seemed a bit pricey at $9. Â The Italian Beef was really a French Dip with green peppers. Beef was ok, but no spicey seasoning in it at all. Â Reasonable at $7 if you like that type. Â Service was very friendly, though they appologized for some "problems" we didn't even notice. Â All in all, an ok place, but great if the weather allows using the upstairs deck.
Review Source:Lamps is the place to be on Tuesdays..At least that is the case for my friends and I. Good brews on tap, trivia, a large menu of fried food and now, pizza by the slice. They should really change the from by the 'slice' to by the 'half a pizza'; I mean this thing is a monster. The zza itself is alright but the portion is great for drinking beer and munching throughout the night. Very cheesy too. As I'm writing this review Im gearing up to make my way over to get my second and third favorite items on their menu (so far) the bottle caps (fried jalepeno chips) and waffle fries; wish me luck!
Review Source:I've been here once, and it was pretty awesome.
This was our second stop for a 30th birthday bar crawl. The bar crawl ended up only having two stops...
There was a group of 16 or 18 of us and we were easily accommodated. We sat on the patio upstairs for awhile, which was perfect. Some people got food (I didn't) and it looked like typical bar food. No complaints, no raves.
As we were thinking about crawling to the next bar, we noticed that karaoke was beginning. Well, we had to stay for at least a little while. Four hours later...
The bartenders were friendly, and so were the other people at the bar. Overall, it was a great time and I'm vowing to go to this place more often!!
Love this place. Â My friends and I go here all the time on the weekends. Â
I've never had their food but they usually have some great deals. Â I've been upstairs, outside upstairs, and downstairs. Â I've never had a problem with the actual bar or the servers. Â However, if you live around here and want to avoid seeing your old high school acquaintances, do not go here... they're everywhere.
It's at a great location too. Â Durty Nellies, Bauers and Emmets are all right there along with the Palatine train station. Â So you have your pick of where you want to go. Â This is usually our last stop. Â Although, there are some crazy people who there at night! Â This one older lady kept coming up to our friends and asking us really inappropriate question. Â It was a little unnerving but we handled her. Â Who doesn't run into their fair share of crazies at a bar, right?
Great for groups so be sure to hit it up. Â Fun place and a nice staff.
As one of the tree-on-my-house gypsy families banished to other suburbs to find a bed with air conditioning and a working toilet, we hit the Lamplighter with two starving children at 8 pm on a Tuesday night. Â We sat in the cozy downstairs dining room, but I was jealous of those in the bar playing for trivia night. Â
Our server came to us with the warning that the kitchen was really backed up and that it was going to be a half hour or more for food. Â I appreciated the heads up, but since this seems to be a recurring theme, seems like somebody ought to hire more folks to serve and cook!
It's perfect drunken food -- most everything fried and greasy and really yummy. Â Coincidentally, it is also perfect kid food. Â Our table enjoyed macaroni and cheese triangles, which were little triangles (about half the size of a CTA card) of mac n cheese smashed together somehow and deep fried. Â My son ate the entire plateful. Â We all had fries and for once there weren't any left anywhere on the table when we left. Â Daughter had the chicken strips which got a thumbs up, and husband had the delish bratwurst covered in grilled onions. Â He was happy, and was especially happy to see Blue Moon on tap as well as his favorite Hacker Pschorr in the bottle on the beer menu. Â Our tab was surprisingly small for all the drinks and food we consumed. Â And, to her credit, the waitress was attentive with drink refills and checking on us throughout the stay.
We left about 9:30 and there was quite a frat-boy crowd hanging in the street smoking and loudly talking smack. Â If you like that I'd give this place 4 stars, but since I'm old and with kids, I'm giving the place a happy 3 stars.
The salmon sandwich was good, and my wife really likes the fish fry. Â Want to know why they got 5 stars? Â Our second time in there, I was trying to remember what I had and liked the first time. Â I guessed (incorrectly), and the bartender said, "No, you had the salmon, no lettuce, and a Goose Island, I think." Â He was right, and that sort of attention to detail (even if he was just lucky) is the sort of thing that brings me back.
Review Source:Ah, Friday nights at Lamps. Cameras flashing for Facebook pics, the girls who work at Hair Cuttery trying to get their groove on, the guys who still live at home acting like big spenders... oh, it's great comedy. For about an hour. Once a year.
Want to actually have fun? Go elsewhere.
Stopped by here last night to catch up with an old friend. I was limited to drinking water because I'm catching cold but I heard that my friend was only paying $2.75 for light beer! That's fantastic. I usually hang out upstairs to hear some music and chill with friends. The Shiner Bock is great and I do love their selection of beers. Service is generally friendly but they can get a bit impatient when things get busy. It's nice to have Lamps in my backyard!
Review Source:I haven't been inside Lamps in a little while but I carried out an order this past Sunday for the Bears game & it was very convenient. Â The last time I carried something out, I waited at the carry out counter for while before anybody knew I was there. Â This time was way better, I open the door & hear a nice notifying chime as I walk in, to which a nice gentleman promptly comes out of the kitchen to greet me. Â I didn't need to say the name on my order, he beat me to the punch & said he was just finishing it up & it'll be right out, that gets an extra star right there.
Already off to a good start from the service, I get home & dig into my meal of a cheeseburger & fries. Â Burger was a little salty but that's why beer is the perfect compliment. Â Fries were of the slim type much like Steak n Shake but tasted way better because they were crispier.
This was redemption for the last subpar time I carried out from here & will definitely be ordering again in the future. Â Extensive menu with reasonable prices and a short drive to a convenient separate pick up area, well done Lamps!
D-bag Bouncer type with Yellow shirt on street: Are you going to the Reunion Party?
Me (looking at my 6yr old nephew): uh no, we are just walking to my car on the other side.
D-bag: The street is closed and I am going to have to ask you to go around.
Me: I thought streets are public places, Â just walking over there (pointing), you can watch us if you like...
D-bag: I am going to have to ask you to go around.
Couldn't pay me to come this place.
I Â visited on a Saturday and the service was horrible. Â We went to the upstairs outdoor area and waited for about ten minutes to order drinks. Â The outdoor area was packed but there were no servers to be found. Â We stepped inside to order from the bar there and were told that the bar area inside was closed and that we had to wait for someone to take our order outside. Â The indoor bar was full of employees drinking. Â We waited another 5 minutes, noticing the number of patrons "double fisting", which I guess makes sense considering it takes so long to order a drink. Â Fed up, we left to drink elsewhere.
Review Source:I remember this being a biker bar but its changed a lot since then.
The downstairs is still barely bigger then a hallway but the upstairs opens at 10 for live performances (Tamkin's band puts on a good show). The place was quite packed with little room to move around but they now have an outdoor patio on the upper level looking over downtown Palatine (its a smokers paradise).
This is a place for 30/40 somethings to hang out at with a feel of a college frat bar. One thing I noticed - the bar downstairs ($5 Miller lite) has different pricing then the bar upstairs($3 Miller lite).
My favorite bar in the area since I moved out to Schaumburg (sad face for the Schaumburg bars). Â
Reasons it's Great:
- Great townie-esq bar full of locals, college-aged, and after-work type people
- Great beer specials (if you're into Budweiser)
- Great upstairs covered patio
- Great hours (read: open late)
- Great Big Urinal (yes! a Mutiny urinal for us suburban people!)
Reasons it's Great and Not Great:
- Lots of d-bags blanket the area come nightfall... not to worry, when the upstairs opens on weekends and the DJ starts spinning the club hits, they usually go bump-and-grind up there
Reasons it's Not Great:
- I'm sorry... I blacked out....
Ok, I have no qualms with the food. It was tasty.
I ordered a veggie wrap...didn't dig the guacamole but the rest was pretty damn good.
I'd give it four and a half stars for food BUT....I had to knock it down a bit more b/c the service SUCKED.
Here's a list of what she did wrong:
1. She took FOREVER to take our order.
2. She then went on her f-ing laptop and didn't check on our food once! It took an HOUR to get our food and the person I was with got a grilled cheese and I got an f-ing veggie wrap! C-mon!
3. Oh, and! She wasn't the one that brought the food to us....she was OUTSIDE SMOKING!! another chick brought us our food...I don't give a crap if it's slow....DO YOUR F-ING JOB!
The person I was with paid for the bill but if it had been up to me she would have gotten a few choice words for a tip rather than cash.
I'm still pissed, I really loved the atmosphere and the food but she ruined the whole experience...I don't think I'll be going back.
Their food is always delicious and the drink specials keep me coming back; however, the service is sooooo slow. Don't get me wrong, I think the servers are great people and extremely friendly and nice... when they actually wait on you.
The first time I came they wanted me to provide two forms of ID because my license is from Minnesota and isn't hard like the Illinois one. How many people carry two forms of ID? Luckily, my credit card served as the second form. It was a night I decided not to just go with cash. Lucky me.
We came with a birthday group and had to sit at separate tables outside. That wasn't so much of a problem for us except when the table closest to the door was getting served and we weren't. They didn't even take our drink orders until after I had purchased my own drinks at the inside bar three times.
Second time we waited around until someone finally seated us. Then we waited until someone else came to take our order. It took awhile. But the server was great when we were being served. They had our food out quickly, but then we didn't see them again for a bit.
Both times the food has left me speechless for what it is. It's high caloric drunk food. You're going to find lots of cheese, bread and deep fried things. It's an alcoholic oasis. So I'm probably going to keep coming here for the specials and the appetizers. Maybe the stars will go up someday.
We came here on Friday for the fish fry and it was just ok. Â The batter was too thick and crispy for my liking. Â I had wanted to sit in the upstairs outdoor section, but it was packed. Â I ended up sitting in the dining area, which was nice and quiet. Â It looks like a fun place to drink and hang out with friends, but I wouldn't come back for the food.
Review Source:Fun place to hang out. Typical youthful bar. It was packed on a Thursday night and they had karaoke. They had an entertainment company come out and run it. The emcee told everyone I had nice breasts. Ok, ok, I guess you're right...thanks for the shout out!
But anyway. Nice upstairs and nice porch. Decent drinks. Have yet to try the food.
Its not very often that my second opinion on a place is a lower version of my first. Â But when I ate my dream burger (burger with onion ring, jalopeno bacon, pepper jack cheese) did I realize that it does not live up to what impression of this place was living in my head.
I want more charr on my burger!!!!!
I've been going here since it was just the size of a double-wide with no upstairs or porch, I met my fiancee here, and we come here enough to know all the bartenders and alot of the regulars. It's a good place to have lunch with your family, hang out at night, or have a bloody mary the next morning (they're really good!).
Review Source:Suburban charm. Â I've been a few times usually on weekdays. Â You could hit here mid-week and find a great mix of ages and a lively time. Â Though more often (I've seen) Â guys 26+ and ladies 21+, I'd guess that there are a few young ladies with fakes. Â Two floors, second floor has got space for karaoke and hosts live music. Â They've also got an open balcony overlooking the lively portion of downtown Palatine. Â
Good mix of people, many a time most bars in this area are just
White. Â Here you've got all kinds of peeps and there's a good vibe.
