This is one of my favorite lunch places. Great burgers and wraps.

If you are in the area you need to give this place a try, period!

It's all right, I guess. The food is OK but not great. Gets crowded and takes a while. They have like 10 TVs with sports on, but you can't hear any of them. Really just a so-so local joint, but even as a baka out-of-towner I know there's better food and better bars not far away.

I run the Northbrook Public Library's book club that meets at the Landmark (Books on Tap - find us on Facebook!), and every time I show up, I'm super impressed. My group meets in the private room downstairs, which is perfect for our needs. It's relatively quiet compared to the upstairs and there's plenty of room and tables for us to sit around, drink, eat, and talk books.

On the service side, the people at The Landmark always make me feel like family. They are kind and funny. Just attentive enough. Totally understanding of serving a large group that is discussing a book but still wants to order things throughout the discussion. It really is a perfect location. Thank you, Landmark!!

Every town has their version of the Landmark Inn . . . you know the kind of place . . . simple, unpretentious, serving cold beer and decent food with a "neighborhood joint" kind of vibe?

We popped in for drinks and dinner on a Sunday night.  There had been a Bears game that afternoon so there were plenty of sad Bears fans still drowning their sorrows (yep  . . .we lost) but we were able to find three seats at the bar.

Our bartender was quick with the drinks and even though they were going through a change of shift- they never missed a beat with our drinks.

Our food was a little bit more of a struggle.  We ordered the sampler plate to start but somehow that came up at the same time as our food so we sent it back.  My two friends had their take on a french dip which looked great and was huge! Sliced beef stuffed into a giant soft roll covered in melted cheese and served with fries!  As for me- I had a decent piece of steak (taken from their steak sandwich) and their fresh vegetables of the day.  The veggies were actually a surprise as they had green beans, broccoli, and asparagus . . . .it's just that I wanted them without oil and they came all greased up.  Oh well . . . .I guess I knew this wasn't fine dining but the bartender seemed so sure that they could get me steamed veggies.  And if you go on line to check their menu- know that it has changed so some things are missing (e.g. the steak)

There is an area at one end of the bar where they have live music on Saturdays when I bet this place gets packed!  Plenty of street parking also makes this an easy choice and if you go in the summer months- it looks like there is a nice patio off to the side.  There are plenty of TV's to catch your favorite game and the music is not so loud that you cannot carry on a conversation.

The locals are friendly, the beer cold and the food reasonably priced.  If I find myself in the "wilds" of Northbrook again, you can bet I'll stop in for a cold one!

I walked in and felt right at home here. One of the waitresses greeted us warmly and told us to sit wherever we liked, and within two minutes, we were provided menus and our drink orders were taken (bottled Bud, draft Stiegl, and Coke).

The ambiance here is warm, cozy but not cramped, with a variety of popular music playing at just the right volume in the background.  From any vantage point, you can see at least three TV screens, so my group talked, scanned screens along with the abundant variety of appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, salads, and entrees on the menu, and relaxed. Our waitress (whom had a lovely accent, being from London and all) was very charming and attentive without hovering. Drinks didn't run dry until we called a halt to them. Another employee brought us samples of ginger beer (tastes like ginger ale -- Killian's makes it. YUM).

The menu was truly impressive - definitely not your average pub fare. At our table, we had the Greek tuna wrap (big burrito-style, full of Mediterranean flavor) with fries, wings (medium heat -- which was really a medium hot -- and with a very unique tang and delicious ranch and chunky, rich, bleu cheese dressing), and the salmon Caesar salad (light, citrus-tinted dressing, blackened chunks of salmon and crunchy croutons). The prices are very rational (expect to spend about $10 for food per adult dish -- entrees will add a few bucks to that amount); daily specials are on the menu, too.

You'll feel right at home whether you're out for a drink, date night, a family dinner, or catching up with friends. And, there's a basement room that accommodates about 60 guests - so party on!

Alright alright, so a lot of you dudes have been askin', "Stanger, righteous one, broseph, please name an acceptable establishment among all the foo-foo crap in the north burbs."  The Stanger is ready to abide, but first a beer.

Aaaaah.  Miller Lite has never tasted better!

So the Stanger was stuck waiting for a train one day, and like most men of extreme good looks, the Stanger spends most of that time staring at himself in the mirror, if you pigs looked as good as the Stanger, you'd get it.  Something stuck out looking passed the Stangers beautiful face, a Miller Lite sign in the window....this place means business.

Stanger steps in through the door to a quiet bar.  Landmark Inn was the name.  Stanger sat at the bar on a quiet weekday, the most interesting man in the world came over, wearing jorts in 20 degree weather, his name was Murph.

Murph took the Stanger's order and didn't put on some fake show of happiness...Murph is a man's man, Murph isn't some PC college drop out trying to make good on a Sociology degree while living at home with Mom and Dad, Murph has obviously lived a rough life which has afforded him the opportunity to wear jorts in weather that would kill a lesser man.   (In case you are wondering, Murph is not an old hipster...there is not a speck of irony in those calcium deficient bones).

Murph and Stanger never actually spoke.  Communication was a series of grunts and head nods and that's how a bar should operate.  Murph may afterall be the Stanger's father, but the Stanger's didn't ask, the Stanger's journey must continue.

Soooooo...You j*rkoff's want a review?  Go here....drink a beer with Murph, but don't talk to him, he doesn't care about your opinions.  Great food and Miller Lite.

    Grrrrrrr...........

Northbrook's only bar is a hell of a place!  Nice little neighborhood joint.  Decent beer selection, the bartenders can make any drink you want (and strong too) and don't leave without getting some food, preferably the calamari or a burger.  Spent many a night here when I lived in Northbrook and the first bar I go to when I come back for visits.  Some competition would be nice, but it's the place to go to when you're too lazy to go to the city or Wheeling, etc.

Bartenders are very friendly, accommodating and in general fun to be around.  It seems I always see people in there whom I already know around the community giving this place a truly neighborhood bar feeling.
Beer - A - Stiegl is imported by a local Wilmette family the glunz's. and it is the best Pilsner hands down
Food - B - bar food.... what do you want from me.
    Bartenders - A
ambiance - A- better than most

The food and beer selection are very good, but the service is so consistently slow and poor that it almost feels like they're TRYING to make you mad.  Very good burgers and food but 1 star service equals a qualified 2 star review..  Orders are half-remembered, you'll sit and wait forever and heaven help you if you try to get something like honey-mustard on the side.  The downside of being the one of the only burger-bar places in town is there's no incentive to do it well.

For a bar in the suburbs I'd day The Landmark Inn is a pretty good place all the way around. It's kid friendly during the day and into the evening before it transforms into a more typical bar scene later at night.  I think the food is good and I think the staff is also good.  You shouldn't go here expecting 5-star Michelin food and service, so I personally find the criticisms of the place kind of ridiculous.  It is what it is: a local eatery and bar serving standard fare with some twists, such as the Lamb Chop Salad, Greek Burger, Mediterranean Shrimp Wrap, and others.  The Wings are big and meaty, a bit overly sauced, but flavorful and the other appetizers are typical bar fare.  What I think sets Landmark apart is (1) it's beer selection and (2) the owner, Constantine.  The beer list is extensive for a suburban joint (no, it's not Hopleaf or Map Room extensive), but it's good with a wide range of styles from both macro and craft breweries.  Constantine is one big, affable guy who clearly enjoys owning the place.  Plus he's a big Pearl Jam fan and there is usually good music playing with a wide variety of sports playing on the several flat screens around the bar.  The outdoor patio is packed in the summer and Landmark is a popular hangout for many softball teams.  Judging by the fact that the place is usually packed in the evenings, I'd say Landmark has its market pretty well figured out.

It's a small "bar next door" kind of bar. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is relatively cozy [for a bar].

I like the area around it too. The people seemed nice. So I'm willing to go there for a drink if I'm ever in the area again.

I have lived in Northbrook for 7 years and absolutely love this place (although the service can be better) The shrimp po' boy sandwich is "amazzing!" so is the fish and chips I love sitting on their patio breathing in the warm air mmmmmmmm. Yes I love coming here.

Good Beer and good friends. This bar is a definite local hangout and has grown as other bars in the area closed. One of the things that makes this place such an awesome hangout is the staff. During the day it's an excellent place to come enjoy a couple drinks or to sit down with friends and have a great lunch. Most bars dont know jack about decent food but I have yet to have anything here i didnt like and im pretty sure ive gone through the whole damn menu by now.

If you are a night crawler, you may be intimidate by the amount of regulars at times. However, you'll find out real quick that the bar staff will take are of their own. Chances are you will see one of the owners walkin around or helping out behind the bar. What keeps people coming back? well if the friendly attitudes dont help then the strong pours will. And everything is offered at a very very fair price.

If you are not into live music (it can get hard to converse at times) then call ahead on a saturday night because sometimes they do an sometimes they dont

Was here for the 2nd time today.  Had the Landmark Burger and iced tea.  The burger was good with just a bare hint of spiciness from the pepper jack cheese.  Fries were standard frozen bar fries.  Service though - not the greatest.  Maybe it was because we were there over a fairly busy lunch, but we had to wait quite a while for her to stop and take our order.  We did see her one time to get my friend a drink refill.  The next time we saw her was when she dropped the check off and kept walking.

I was there about 6 months ago and food was good (Reuben Sandwich) and the service was good too.  Hopefully it was just a bad service day today.

All in all though, it was ok and I would go back again if I'm ever back in that area.

As a wee little girl I went to Cypress Inn pretty often, so that place holds a special spot in my memories.  Too bad Landmark has kind of shot a few holes in those fun memories.

I suppose this place is probably better when it's nice out and folks can sit on the patio.  When it's cold and you're trapped inside a packed joint with a bad layout and an awful live band that's way too loud, it's not so great.

As time passes in the evening, the crowd goes from Northbrook parents of college kids to a weird mix of barely legal kids/city dweller wanna-be's to Jersey Shore/thug central.  Very surreal.

Staff was pleasant enough.  Our server was seriously overly hopped up on something which was making me tense and jittery.

Probably best as a lunch spot.  If I can avoid going here, I will.

Okay, so this place has a good buffalo wrap!

I'm a big fan of buffalo wings and generally spicy food, I have my own hooters sauce in the fridge, and love buffalo wing sauces. Landmark delivers on that front, completely! Wraps are simple, but it's nice to have a spicy wrap. Sure, if it's spicy enough you might regret it later, but why not enjoy the food while it's there!

Service was good, complete with attractive polite waitress, and portions were good. Seems like a solid place to go, and has some nice outdoor/indoor seating options along with a pretty good menu!

started going there when it was "The Cypress".

the current owners...well....the place is sub-standard.

the pub grub is hit (more like bunt) or miss...which is most of the time. the food ALWAYS seems to have been nuked...what a shame. 'cause it used to be a nice place with 'interesting' people going there.
it's a neighborhood bar with it's fair share of 'regulars', some of whom i know or come to know, but...but....most of the time it's a big high school clique going on there.....

the day time bartender 'murph'....well he is what he is....
the beer selection is...keeps changing...all the time.
they carried some REAL nice beers...MORITZ, from Spain, Koestizer (?) from Germany...then got rid of 'em & brought the same stuff you can get ANYWHERE else. i mean c'mon...i LIKE to try diffrent beers...

be a while till i go back there again....

I came here in March while I was visiting a friend and considering a move to the city from LA, and I loved it immediately.  The owner was so nice, along with the bartenders..and hey!  they have bar games and a jukebox, so that makes me happy.
I returned the other night, drunk as a skunk, and the owner remembered me right away from my last visit.  Nice!
My friend and I shared the brie burger (yum!!!) in an attempt to sober up (fail).  I assume I'll come back here whenever I'm visiting the suburbs.

To the other Landmark reviews... Really? really? You think this is a great place?

It's a hole.  It's old, dirty and the bathrooms need to be remodeled or at least cleaned! The food is mediocre at best.

On the positive side - the people working there are nice.

Still, there is no way around it, this place is a below average dump.  I've lived near this place for over ten years, and I wish it was a great place, but it isn't!

Great local place with good food and a wide selection of beers.  Decent outdoor area during the summer as long as the smokers are kept at a distance.  Great place for cheap family meals, but turns more "adult" later at night.  Generally the service is fantastic.

After seeing a movie at Northbrook court we were looking for somewhere nearby to have a few beers and grab a bite to eat, and after using Yelp on my phone Landmark was the first place to show up.

It looks like a standard neighborhood bar, except a bit brighter than most. I liked the beer selection, Guinness, Harp, and Fat Tire on tap, i'm definitely a fan. The menu has some interesting twists on normal bar food, and my boyfriend and I were both pleasantly surprised.

I ordered the hamburger that has prosciutto and brie on it, it was absolutely delicious. I'm a tough person to please when it comes to hamburgers, it's hard to tell the difference between a hamburger at one place compared to another, but this hamburger was excellent, really flavorful, the french fries were really crisp, and the cole slaw was fresh.

My boyfriend ordered the fried chicken dinner, and he loved it. It has a very light, airy, crispy crust. Different from your everyday, run of the mill fried chicken. I liked it, I would order it again.

Both of us agreed that if we lived closer that this would be the bar we would hang out at. If you like good beer and good food, you will enjoy it.

Landmark is a popular hangout for the local softball teams on a weeknight! As a softball groupie, I found myself here one Monday night. $3 Berryweiss special and the most delicious crab cake burger!! It was probably 10 pm when I ate it but it was so good, I couldn't help myself! The fries are the thick cut steak fries that I love too. Service was fast and the waitress checked up on us numerous times. There are all sorts of people at this place... athletes.. softball players, cyclists... corporate people and families! Good food, great service!

This is an average neighborhood bar in downtown Northbrook.  What is not average is that they have live music on the weekends.  The crowd is usually active makes this a good place to meet new people in the neighborhood.

The beer selection is alright they do not have too many beers on tap but they have some imports on tap.  The bar area is long and makes for good conversation.

The service here has always been good.  It will get busy so get your order in don't expect someone to wait on you.  The downstairs area is really cool.  I believe the room could be reserved for private parties.

I usually order the Landmark burger.  It is larger than expected with fries on the side.  They will allow you to substitute for asparagus instead of fries but charge a couple dollars.  The fries are not very good neither is the asparagus.  The burger is good with a fluffy bun and quality meat.  If you substitute the fries the burger costs over $13.

    Confession time:

Landmark is one of my fav lunch spots in Northbrook.  Forget all the overcrowded, played out chains (JJ's, Subway, Chipotle, Potbelly's, Boston Blackies).  Landmark wins.....by a landslide!

The food selection is pretty extensive for a cozy, neighborhood pub.  I usually order a chicken ceasar wrap (yummy!) or the southwest chicken salad (delish!), which is filled avacado, tortilla strips, black beans and ranch dressing.  My coworkers are fan of their burgers, reubens, tuna melts and roasted chicken, too.  Definitely something for everyone!

It's also a great place for afterwork hangouts - for venting about work frustrations over a razz and tonic or having an ice cold beer while watching a sports game.  Plus, on nice days, you can sit on the patio and enjoy the weather.

Service is always friendly and fast...AND willing to give us separate checks without making a fuss.  Much appreciated, Landmark.   I'm a fan for life.

So many things to say about The Landmark. I realize that this review is entirely biased since Landmark is... well... one of the only bars in Northbrook and because I have been coming to it since I was twenty one. (Earlier for food,)

The service is amazing.  (I would say between 4 and 4.5 stars.)  Really, the bar staff are extremely kind and will mix you something potent, especially if they know you.  Great place if you are on a budget.  Also, they will remember you if you are friendly and will definitely take care of you.  For a bar of its type, the food is decent- especially the burgers and salads.  If you come here to eat, I would definitely recommend doing it in the summer/springtime, so that you can eat on the terrace.   Apparently the happy hour specials are excellent but I am not qualified to comment since I have not come in for them.

Bar experience/ambiance (two stars):  I wish I could make you a venn diagram to illustrate the following about the Landmark social scene --
    A) If you come on a weeknight, especially during the summertime or during breaks, you will find a very young crowd.
    B) If you come during the weekend, especially if a younger-aged band is not playing, you will find various adults meeting for GBN class reunions.  A lot of 20 year and beyond reunions.
    C) This place is ALWAYS an unofficial reunion for GBN students, and if you have EVER dated anyone from there, you are guaranteed to see them during your outing. Be prepared for an uncomfortable reunion with an ex or that girl from junior high.
    D) If you go on a weekend and are young, expect to see very casual, down-to-earth people there. They probably have lived in Colorado at some point, own a truck, hate being in Northbrook (or a nearby suburb) or love Moosejaw.  A lot of them are suspiciously good at playing bags (or cornhole, if you prefer).  A lot of them are salt-of-the-earth, and have personalities that are a less high-brow than what you'd expect to see in other parts of this world.  Many smoke.

If you are going solely to drink, please keep in mind the following:  If you mingle with the other townies, you will find out many things that you never wished to know.   You will meet some sketchy/outrageous people if you are sitting by the bar.  Getting a table or going with a group is recommended.

Also, you will be disappointed if you are experimental with your beers or cocktails.  Better to go with simpler mixed drink or shots... That's just the kind of bar it is.  I would not recommend this as a spot for young singles unless you are straight out of college and are looking to reconnect during the summertime.

Recommend this place for lunch or for snacks over drinking- lovely to see the suits during their lunch break.

Landmark has its strengths and its weaknesses.  Now that the bar is smoke-free it is a pretty pleasant place to hang out.

    Strenghs:
Landmark is great in the summer.  They have a great deck just outside the restaurant area that stays open until the bar closes.  Great people watching, you get everything from the standard Northbrook locals, to college kids home for the summer, to young professional-types who didn't make it down to the City that night.

Landmark also has great food.  I've never ordered anything I've been disappointed with.  Burgers are always cooked to perfection.  Even the turkey burger is well-seasoned, something often overlooked when a restaurant focuses heavily on beef burgers.  French fries always seem to taste like they just came out of the fryer.

    Weaknesses:
Live music really makes the bar feel croweded and inaccessible.  When I see a band playing in here, I turn around and walk away.  The music is so loud it overwhelms the place and you cannot have a conversation with the person next to you.  Last time I was there and live music was playing my friends and I essentially had to resort to sending each other text messages in order to communicate.

I think the layout is kind of annoying.  The bar area and the restaurant area are separated by this half wall.  As a result the bar area is very narrow and it makes passing along the bar difficult if there are people actually sitting at the bar!

My solid recommendation would be to go here on a Saturday night for a burger (or nearly anything else on the menu) and a beer in the summer and sit outside.

I like this place.  I'm going to keep coming back here for lunch because they have a large menu with many good choices from $8-10.  Not just burgers and fries, either, but wraps, salads, "gourmet" burgers and other sandwiches, and even entrees such as stuffed peppers.

My first visit was with a Northbrook native who's been coming here since the 60's when it was the Cypress.  It has great character but it's not run-down; they have renovated in the last few years.  Apparently they always served the best burgers in town, and the Montreal Steak burger that I got did not disappoint--A-.

Onion rings, B.  Calamari, C; it had a cornmeal batter which seemed to retain a lot of grease.  Today's sandwich was the barbecue pulled pork, which tasted great but was a bit mushy.  I would eat it again though--B.  The fries stand out--crispy with the ideal french-fry taste; as good as it gets for non-fresh-cut fries:  B+.

I would love to come here and hang out at the bar after work...or in the afternoon while a ballgame is on (stupid work).  Beer selection is very good for a neighborhood joint.  Service is spotty; today it was rather slow for the business lunch crowd.

This place is just sub-par in my book. The food is lackluster at best, the beer selection is poor, and it generally turns into a random hero fest which can be good, but more often than not turns into awkward conversation. If I'm going to enjoy a bar, I'll definitely go elsewhere

Oh Landmark!! We have such a love/hate relationship but I can never turn down a visit whenever I'm back in my hometown.

This has been my place of choice for watching Bears games for the last 2 seasons. the $.25 wings and $3.50 Bloody Mary's, along with a large # of my friends who go make it an intimate setting for us to have a good time. They put in new tv's too!!! Thanks for that!

This is the Cheers bar of Northbrook, where everybody knows your name...Actually, it's one of the only ones in Northbrook so I guess it's automatically designated that way. The best time to visit besides football Sundays is during the summer. The patio is always nice and relaxing, with the exception of the roaring trains that go by quite often.

The food is actually really good here. While Landmark is considered a bar & grill, they could most certainly put the grill first and I'd agree. Burgers are bigger than normal bar burgers, and the meat is always fresh and delicious. I go for the club sandwich, the wraps, or the salads. I have also tried the ribs and they are incredibly good, as the staff will swear by this as well. The staff is also very hard working and friendly, for the most part.

Thanks for the memories, Landy....Skidmark. You'll be seeing more of me in the future, that's for sure.

Right in downtown Northbrook adjacent to the train tracks is an unassuming "drinkeatery". The menu has the usual selection of burgers and sandwiches at reasonable prices. I've ordered a number of items and they have all been tasty, but nothing remarkable. They also have a full bar with a good selection on tap or in bottles, but, again, nothing remarkable. The building has been in this location (although not as a bar/ restaurant) for something like 100 years (thus the name) so there's a bit of history. In the summer, they have a large deck for seating on the side of the building that is quite nice, as long as you don't mind the occassional train (I think its fun). Sometime I'd like to go back on a Friday or Saturday after 9pm to see what its like on weekend nights.

I don't really like this place at all.  It is too much Northbrook for me to handle.  Everytime I go in there I have to talk to a bunch of old dudes asking about my dad and then have some more awkward conversations with people I have not seen since I graduated high school.  It is a place I try to avoid but end up going at least twice every time I'm home on break.

This place was formerly the Cypress Inn, a Northbrook legendary restaurant/ tavern (open since the early 60s) with a horseshoe shaped bar with friendly service and cheap drafts, where I spent many an afternoon up til it closed in 1999 or so. I have not visited since the remodel/ renaming , but it is still in the same place in the heart of downtown Northbrook, and for anyone who wants the true old Northbrook experience I would recommend a visit.
