Well, another bad encounter with management...this guy Greg does not care about customers or former customers. Â Â No problem - I will continue to go to Max & Benny's (no relation) or Butterfield's. Â Both of those places appreciate my business unlike Greg at Max's Deli in Highland Park. Â Today he told me he is glad I do not go to his restaurant, and couldn't care when I told him I let my friends and colleagues know what he is like.
Review Source:It's always a good standby 'go to' kinda place.
I consistently like their Reuben sandwiches open faced with great sauerkraut and thousand island dressing.
I tried their nova lox onion omelette and I think the Bagel in Old Orchard does a better job but I do like they serve good fried sliced potatoes with it and Bagel does not.
The soups are good but their salads are only so so.
They have a large bakery selection and my favorite is their black and white cookies. I've gone during brunch, lunch and dinner and they have a consistent business and good service.
They serve Intelligentsia coffee, too!
My wife and I like to eat out on Friday night - we call it Date Night and this is one of the places we've been too multiple times. Â My wife likes soup and usually the restaurants we go to near us only offer clam chowder on Friday nights - my wife is lactose intolerant so "no soup for you!" Â That's why we like going to Max's - many different soups, even ones she can have :-). Â She loves the matzoh ball soup. Â It is made with home made stock and you can taste the difference. Â I use Minor's at home when I'm cooking and there is no comparison, that and the fact that this soup will cure anything that ails you. Â They also put fresh pickles and a fresh bread basket (with rolls and Matzo) on the table - no need for any appetizers. Â I've had the corned beef and pastrami and both were excellent. Â My wife has had the salad sampler and all the salads (egg, chicken and salmon) were terrific. Â I highly recommend the cottage fries as the choice of potato. Â All meals are huge portions and good for one or two additional meals. Â We even got a loaf of marble rye to go - yummy!
