This place has some of the biggest, juiciest chicken strips of any quick serve restaurant anywhere I've been.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Â In order to make chicken wings that actually have some meat, the whole industry has been working at "beefing up" their chickens.
Famous Recipe has been in town a long time. Â It used to sit across from the Methodist Church at East Main and 15th Streets but back then, it was strictly a take out operation. Â Now, they have a dining room with a television. Â The staffers are friendly and orders are finished fairly quickly. Â The restrooms are generally clean.
They still have a liver and gizzards meal, which is unusual nowadays. Â I don't eat it, but my mum preferred their livers. Â I eat the chicken strips, biscuits, and on occasion, side items. Â The mashed potatoes and gravy don't seem to have real potatoes.
It beats KFC and it doesn't make me sick, which is a plus.
Driving from Indianapolis to Columbus one night, Richmond seemed like the right place to stop for dinner. Â Craving something other than burgers, fried chicken soundeds good. Â Lee's Famous Recipe is a short drive off I-70. Â It was clean and the staff were very friendly. Â My husband and I both ordered the spicy chicken, along with biscuits, cole slaw and mashed potatoes. Â The chicken was very juicy and hot, with a crunchy skin that had just a hint of cayenne. Â I could have handled more heat, but overall was satisfied with the chicken. Â The biscuits were buttery and soft, the cole slaw was very good and tasted homemade. Â The potatoes had a taste of powdered mix and were the only real disappointment. Â I place Lee's above KFC but still prefer the spicy chicken at Popeye's.
