What a cozy little place, with a great happy hour deal! Â We used our Yelp check in offer and only paid $4 for a cocktail and a beer! Â I liked my lavender collins, but it wasn't as strong as I'd like it to be, even though it tasted really delicious!
Matt B.'s beer was luke warm. Â I'm not sure if that was how it was supposed to be so I questioned Matt, and he said maybe some places just serve their beer like this, as if it was normal... since I'm not a big beer drinker, and I've heard of places that do it, but that warm beer just did not taste good to me. Â I don't know how Matt stomached that entire pint.
The balcony was a nice place to sit on a sunny warm day!
I wrote a review in March 2012, and not much has changed, except the review doesn't seem to show? Anyway, My wife and I have eaten here many times since then and have always had good experiences - sure we've had salads with red onion cut too large that's a bit overwhelming, but I don't think that sinks the ship...they're a good addition to the Bend dining scene. The service has always been fine and I think they're the best dining option in the Old Mill.
Review Source:Level 2 has the most DELICIOUS mojito's EVER. The happy hour has unbelievably low prices. I suggest a mojito and the tofu lettuce wraps.
The service is good, the location is fabulous, but watch those prices after happy hour- they can get you and bring you right back down from that buzz!
I love the atmosphere. Â Service was friendly. Â I went with a group. Â I ordered the spring rolls and bruscetta for a light dinner. Â I wasn't impressed. Â the rolls were very dry and the bruscetta had carrots on it and wasn't very tasteful. Â I still want to come back and give this place another try though.
Review Source:Went over the Labor Day weekend for a friend's birthday. What a disappointment! Service was sub-par and the food was from mediocre to bad. The few things that were good were the drinks (Old 51 and Sparkling Raspberry) and the pizza on naan bread. The wife and I ordered dinner (not apps) and were not please. I had the Makers Baby Back ribs which were dry. I asked for some bbq sauce since it didn't come with any. I never got it. Never got water refills either. The wife had the Angel Hair with chicken. Gross. Cold pieces of cubed chicken with what looked like leftover veggies from the pizza and what tasted like soba noodles. Our friends had the Grilled Ceasar, Calamari, Fish Tacos and potato skins. They were not impressed.
This place won't be on our list to take friends when they come to visit. Too bad.
This spot has had several owners and I think Level 2 might be here to stay, or at least I hope it will. Â They have a great happy hour, good food, good drinks, good prices - that meet my requirements for a great happy hour. Â The smoked pork belly sliders and calamari should not be missed, very tasty.
I don't love the decor, but that's not the end of the world. Â It's pretty swanky which is not a bad thing. Â
This is the spot to hit after a day of shopping at the Old Mill.
We are new to Bend and trying out a little bit of everything. Â With a friend in town we started with a sure thing for happy hour and moved on to Level 2 from there. Â We were a bit unsure when we walked in because it was practically empty, but we thought we were there, at least have a drink and go from there. Â We sat at the bar and ordered beers, looked over the menu and it peaked our interest. Â The food selection seemed promising and we each ordered something to eat. Â It took forever to get the food and it was really just OK. Â The staff was nice, but more attentive to each other, visiting with other off duty employees and a few regulars. Â I would not be able to recommend this place to others based on the slow food service while they were dead, couldn't imagine how long it would take if they were even half full.
Review Source:Eclectic menu with some tasty items sure to please any one's palate. Â Happy hour is a great value on food and drinks. Â Service is always great and the food is quick to the table. Â Menu changes seasonally and there is a fish and steak special on the dinner board. Â I love the fried rice and bok choy, the wife digs the smoked fish tacos.
Love you guys!
My sister was visiting from out of town and I brought her here for some appies and drinks. Â What an embarrasment after I bragged about all the great restaurants in Bend. Â Upon entering, the greeter was nice and told us to find our own table and we obliged. Â We sat there for 20 minutes and were never acknowledged. Â I finally flagged down our server and she greets us at our table with "Do you need something?" Â I pause.....We'd like some menus so we can order some drinks and food. Â I wasn't rude but probably shocked when I replied as I was truly shocked at her attitude towards us. Â That was the theme of the entire 2 hours we were there. Â She ignored us, never checked up on us, served the appetizer WITH the meal even though I even stated when I ordered "we'd like to start with.......then we'll have.......for dinner". Â Which shouldn't matter anyway - who serves the appies with the meal?????!!!???? Â We each had one drink and probably would have had a second if she ever came back and asked if we wanted another drink. Â We were nice and didn't complain for fear of backlash since she was already extremely rude from the very beginning. Â The drinks were pretty good (which is why we wanted seconds) but the food was average and very small portions. Â The service was appaling!!! Â Too many better choices in Bend to waste my time and money here!
Review Source:"Meh" is right.
L2 needs a serious makeover. Ch'i is conspicuously absent here. Â Perhaps the owners can start with painting over the institutional blue walls. To be fair, I understand that this was formerly a martini bar (I moved here a year ago) and that it is exactly the same decor as before. For the space as it is now, it is a poor restaurant, but could be a very nice speakeasy, if tweaked.
The lobster mac was just okay, though, as I expected, very little lobster. Also, I asked for it without ham, and...yes, it came with ham. The fish in rice paper (the special) was similarly just okay. Prices are just okay. The bar service from Brittany was very good.
The nice thing about Bend is there are lots of food/drink choices where I would rather satisfy my appetites.
Cool place. Went here for dinner one night and had the smoked fish tacos, which I thought were really good! Their version of salad rolls weren't that great, I would pass on these.
My co-worker had the Pork Medallions and she said the pork was tender and cooked perfectly. Cocktails are okay.
We also tried this place for Happy Hour. Good food, cocktails again were just okay. The champagne raspberry cocktail was decent.
I would definitely eat here again, especially for the fish tacos!
Remember the old classic tune that Sinatra used to sing with a lyric that went like this:
"It's a quarter to three,
There's no one in the place except you and me..."
Although the sound system was (blaring) Bono's "Beautiful Day" when we arrived at Level 2 at a quarter to six (5:45) on a Friday night, it was the Sinatra classic that popped into my head.
Because this cocktail bar / restaurant was eerily underpopulated, although that was still happy hour time. Particularly odd as it was the monthly art / shops event known as First Friday in Bend when bars and restaurants are particularly busy; packed even. We'd been invited by an artist at a nearby gallery to come see her featured work. So afterward we decided to give Level 2 a try  since it was just conveniently just up the street and "see if we can get in".  As it turns out no problem there.
Overall experience was not so poor that we might not go back another time if was the most convenient option. Â But Level 2 isi not a place we'd seek out. Â Some things worked but they were counter balanced by things that didn't. Â
As example...
...our server was friendly but as a customer it was off putting that a woman, who appeared to be one of the owners, was lecturing a newish server about performance and policy putting the customers squarely in the mix .
...the calamari appetizer we ordered off the happy hour menu was good enough but very small in size
...the specialty cocktails were discounted a buck off regular price for happy hour and were tasty enough but not so good that we didn't wish we were somewhere else.
...the menu is reminiscent of 5 Fusion downtown (same owners), but  that sort of fusion food just doesn't seem to fit with the Old Mill converted warehouse setting.
...the interior is interesting but  interior design and the menu and the music just don't seem to work together for the menu theme.
Overall, there seemed  a lack of cohesive focus about the place. If that makes sense.  As a customer it was discordant. Â
Compare it to the experience at Joolz or Zydeco or Brickhouse Bend or GoodLife or 10 Barrel as example. Â Each of those places seems to have defined their target audience and orchestrated menu and ambiance around that. Â As if "they know what they want to be when they grow up". Â
Although each of these places are quite different from the other, each of them clicks for what they are with the customer audience they serve. Â In return hey are rewarded with brisk business.
Unless this was a fluke at Level 2 on our visit, it can't be a good thing for them that on a Friday night between 6:00 and 7:00 at the height of tourist season there couldn't have been more than ten customers present, spread between bar, restaurant seating and outside deck.
Here are a couple of TIPS Â if you go:
1) There is a spacious elevator that really can't be missed for the big LEVEL 2 letters on its door to take you upstairs. But we did miss it and I can say there are 14 steps before the landing turn to climb several more. Look for the elevator. ;-)
2) One of the good things about Level 2's space is there are really five seating areas: Outside deck (west facing and wicked hot in the summer afternoons and evenings), bar, right of bar, left of bar, and a room in the back the staff calls "the garage". Had we known about the garage when we entered, we would have picked it to sit in. Cool space - literally in the summer and figuratively all the time. Check it out.
Great place to grab a late night snack and drinks!
Loved the atmosphere, brick walls, cozy seats, a great view- it's on the second floor (hence the name). The crab mac and cheese was delish, although I was surpised to taste other veggies in there that was not listed on the menu. Kind of a surprise! The drinks- very good too. We did not like the bread pudding so we sent it back and our waitress kindly took it off the bill.... I would say this place is probably best for it's drinks...good times!
The inventive menu caught my attention and enticed me in the door - and fortunately for me the actual food itself was every bit as delicious as the menu indicated it would be. Â
We started with the Ahi tuna poke appetizer which was intriguing and delicious. Â The green curry stir fry had a nice spicy heat and a delicious and generous portion of seafood. Â I am also a sucker for a good nicoise salad and Level 2's was just wonderful! Â Dessert options are limited, but was they lack in diverse options, they make up for in taste: the creme brulee was quite nice and didn't disappoint.
The atmosphere was a bit on the chic side - with modern edges and metal accents - but also unpretentious and accessible. Â I think the best part was the service: it was so good we either had a shape-shifting waitress or everyone at Level 2 takes a team approach to making diners feel welcome and assisted. Â
Next time, I'd like to try a few more interesting menu items and one (or two) of their signature cocktails!
Well, I'm glad we gave Level 2 another try. Food was very tasty from appetizers to dessert. I highly recommend the brownie mosaic cheesecake. Super yummy.
We had excellent customer service and the staff was really appreciative of our patronage. I will definitely go again.
PS: They have Happy Hour all day Sunday, so all signature cocktails are $5!
