My wife and I stumbled across this place (the best way) and were pleasantly surprised. I ordered a buttered bagel and a smoothy that included expresso, peanut butter, chocolate, and other tasty things. It was just what I needed. She ordered something healthy with kale and bagel too. Both were perfect.
The service was fine, they brought our order to us on the patio. They could have been a bit more communicative. There was a bit of a wait as someone had phoned in for four smoothies before we arrived. But we were on vacation so we relaxed on the patio and met a cat.
We'd have gone here every day if we stayed in the area.
Post our Holo Holo adventure, my cousin suggested getting a smoothie. Little Fish is located in the cute town of Hanapepe that is lined with art galleries, a restaurant or two and retail shops. My cousin said the town in Lilo & Stitch took after Hanapepe. Upon entering, there is a small area of tables, magazines and local pubs to choose from as you enjoy your beverage, then a counter by the back and just outside there is a sitting area that is shared with neighboring businesses. Your options are above the counter on black menu boards. I think I got what was as close to Jamba Juice's Acai Super Antioxidant and it was tasty. But when I left the café and was about to step into an art gallery, I looked at my hand and thought I was bleeding. What the... ! Nope, the cup wasn't wiped down clean so I went back to the café to get napkins, which wasn't stocked. Eventually I got a napkin. On my way out, I noticed that she was selling t-shirts with one of her kids' artwork on it. I believe it was called Little Fish Monster. It was cute. I'd totally market my kids' 'talent' that way too if I could. Cute spot, kind of a shy gal behind the counter but yummy smoothies for a warm day.
Review Source:Best place for breakfast, coffee, or smoothies on your way to Waimea canyon.
It was like finding a slice of San Francisco (or Seattle, or Portland) on the island. They do hand pour drip coffee here. They also have amazing smoothies (very fresh and refreshing). I recommend the green monster or berry bonzai. They also do bagel sandwiches very well. I recommend the lox bagel.
**GET YOUR BAGEL AND COFFEE HERE**
LOVED the vibe here.
Friendly, easy-going, and funky.
Very me.
Ordered:
**EVERYTHING BAGEL WITH PESTO SPREAD
Fresh, tasty, and that cream cheese spread was divine.
** ESPRESSO
Strong, made right. Thank you.
We sat in the back patio and enjoyed the sunshine.
It was like having your own beach bungalow.
Everyone loved it here.
In fact, I might just stay in Hanapepe next time for Little Fish.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
On our recent travels around the island of Kauai we drove through Hanapepe and found it quite charming and eclectic. Â Went to Little Fish and really enjoyed excellent coffee drinks, and the funky, bohemian, artsy vibe of the place, which is quintessentially what all of Hanapepe is about. Â It's a place that was hit hard by the hurricane, and many of the buildings that were damaged have not been rebuilt. Â And yet, out of the devastation, this lovely, vibrant and eclectic artists' colony has come to life, and the Litlle Fish Cafe fits right in and embodies the spirit of the little town.
Very good coffee, didn't try their smoothies but had some of their bakery items which were okay. Â Had a great time with the magnetic wall and the "build your own" poetry magnets. Â Also, clean spacious bathroom full of art on the walls. Â In the courtyard behind the cafe is a cool art gallery/gift shop which I can also recommend.
Everyone at Little Fish was super friendly and laid back. Â I would definitely go back next time I am in Hanapepe.
It's alright.. A bit pricey for items you can make yourself. I used to like this place a lot, until I noticed that they don't make the menu items the same everytime. The last Mama's Helper I had tasted awful, not like the ones I've had here before. I like the style of the set up, but for some reason I feel like they are trying too hard to achieve that new age, hippy feel...? Not sure why, could be just me..
Review Source:Love Little Fish!!! It's the best cafe south side. It's always a pleasure to see Camille behind the counter. Excellent eclectic music plays in the background. Seating is limited but there are extra tables/seas in the back patio. Â Service is laid back. The bathroom is a white to see with the many writings on the wall. My faves are the homemade chai tea and the shmear bagels. :)
Review Source:BEWARE (DO NOT RECOMMEND): Â We came here because the reviews were so great but the SERVICE WAS HORRENDOUS as well as the food being OVERPRICED. Â Got one of their smoothies it didn't taste good, it tasted bland and chalky and when I brought it back for maybe an improvement, Â the girl behind the counter WANTED TO CHARGE ME to add chocolate sauce to make it sweeter. Â No thanks. Â Then my friend's coffee showed up and wasn't as he had asked and they said they wanted to CHARGE HIM again to add anything to improve it.
We asked them to turn down the music, we could hardly hear each other, it was 11AM and we were the only two in there.. they refused. Â Or actually they turned it down a little but when the owner walked in and when he heard about our request he turned it back up again.
Let's talk about the owner. Â This man acted psychotic when he saw I had Yelp pulled up on my computer, grabbed my plate and told me to leave, I said "Absolutely, as long as you refund both my friend and I for our food" (I hadn't taken even a bite yet). Â HE REFUSED. Â AND THEN- AND THEN GRABBED MY PHONE AWAY BECAUSE HE WAS SCARED I WAS GOING TO RECORD HIM.. AND THEN told me if I didn't leave he'd call the cops. Â This after HE HAD ALREADY BROKEN TWO LAWS, and the worse we had done was be dissatisfied PAYING CUSTOMERS.
Finally after refusing to leave he refunded us our money. Â ONE OF THE WORST places and treatments of a customer I have EVER EXPERIENCED, and our ONLY BAD experience on the Island.
Go to ISLAND TACOS if you want WiFi, great food, and a better experience.
On Oahu, there's this one coffee shop I absolutely love (the Curb), and Little Fish Coffee comes in at a very close second to them! Â In fact, this place may be the ONLY answer to my "Curb" withdrawals when I'm on Kauai. Â
I've only been here twice since it opened. Â But, that's just because majority of the time I'm on Oahu at school...and only able to come here if I'm home & have access to a car ride headed to Hanapepe. Â That being said though, I already love this place! Â It's super cute. Â I'm able to embrace the hipster within me to the fullest here!
The drink and food menu(s) -- OMG! What a variety! Very impressive.
Great coffee, great food, good customer service, and amazing decor...they definitely deserve 5 stars & nothing less, in my book!!
Whether you're from here or not, Little Fish Coffee is the only place you need to be getting your coffee fix if you're on the Westside!
If youre in hanapepe you NEED to be here!! This place is soo great! Such awesome decor inside (very cool/hipster). The ladies are super nice and down to earth! I got the vanilla jitterbug and oh my god it was seriously the best blended ice coffee drink I've ever had! My brother got the banana colada and it tasted just like a piña colada yummmm.. My other brother got some sort of black tea and it was perfect!! So refreshing and not sweet, but has the best fruity flavor!!
We didnt try the food, but I saw someone get a veggie bagel and that looked really good too!
I'm telling you, if you're in town and need a great drink and something quick to eat, don't hesitate to come here!!:):)
Little Fish is a cute little shop with an interesting bathroom. Â If there's a line it's because someone's reading the walls . . . we enjoyed a monkey nuts smoothie and I like a lox bagel - cream cheese, onion, capers, & salmon. Â Both were super yummy. Â Service was a bit slow, but not unacceptable. Â Limited seating inside, but nice area in the back with three small tables, a fountain, and a cat. Â Lots of shops on this street to check out. Â We came by on a Friday evening and there were tables set up along the street displaying art and other various items.
Review Source:I wanted to love this place. Unfortunately, the nice girl that prepared my food, forgot to put on the goji berries on my  papaya fruit bowl, and ran out to given them to me to pour over myself. This was fine until I realized that my bowl was also missing the yogurt. I went to ask for it, and was given to me by the same girl, who was running in the kitchen trying to finish another order. I was ticked off by the fact that "Camille," the owner, was sitting on a chair chatting with friends while the one girl ran around inside the kitchen taking orders, preparing fruit bowls, bagel sandwiches, making coffee, and leaving out ingredients in the meals. Grant it, there were a handful of patrons in the shop, but assistance to the kitchen girl would have made my meal better prepared. I got the sense that my business wasn't appreciated nor needed. I won't be coming back.
Review Source:Stopped here for breakfast on 10/16/12 as nothing around was open. Husband had the turkey avocado bacon sandwich and a berry smoothie while I had a cup of house Joe and a yogurt acai granola bowl. Both were awesome. My Greek yogurt was served in a hollowed out papaya with blueberries and bananas. Yummy! Â The coffee was freaking amazing! Husband loved his sandwich-- fresh and tasty.
Service was laid back and pleasant. We had a nice chat with the girl behind the counter about sites in Kauai. I wish we had gotten her name. She even brought our food out to us on the patio. GREAT service!
The place itself is hip and cool in a divey way and had some serious rock concert photos on the wall. Husband, a HUGE Robert Plant fan, spotted one of his idol. Note to owner(s): if this poster is for sale, we want it. :-)
If you go, have your food on the adorable garden patio out back and say hello to the resident cat. We call her Aurora. No idea what her actual name is, but she is a cutie.
Loved everything about this little coffee shop/cafe. Don't be mistaken by their old run down building, as you walk in you will be delighted with a warm happy surprise.
Had the banana colada smoothie and bagel sandwich-forgot what it was called but was full with avo, cucumbers, tomato, and munster Chz.
I could only finish half so order to share. Enjoyed bunch outside in their back shaded courtyard.
They have an array of espresso drinks, bagel-whiches, wraps, and smoothies.
You must try & I will visit again.
My 400th Yelp review goes to... Camille at Little Fish Coffee!!! This honor is very well deserved.
Camille and her mother (or mother-in-law, I forget) run this adorable coffee shop and cafe in old Hanapepe town. And heavens, it is definitely worth a stop for a snack to talk story.
When we arrived after several hours exploring beaches on Kaua'i's west side, they had just finished making some Moloka'i sweet potato pie that was *gluten free*. Holy treat, batman! This fantastic, sweet, filling purple dessert with a warm cup of coffee really hit the spot.
While you are here make a purchase that supports saving the endemic birds of Kaua'i. Or, come here on a Friday evening and support local artists.
One of my favorite spots in Kaua'i. Little Fish Coffee is a great place.
The only reason it gets 4 stars is because the girl working the register acted like we were an incoviniece. She took our drink order one at a time and acted annoyed when we asked for food. That aside, the homemade chai tea was awesome! My bf had the midnight maurader which tasted like strong espresso. They also have fresh juices and yummy sounding bagel sandwiches (veggie options galore). We tried mom's banana bread and it was very moist and delicious. It's worth stopping in. Hopefully the register girl will be in a better mood!
Review Source:closed sundays. actually, it just so happened that practically the whole town of hanapepe was closed last sunday (05/27/12) due to a power outage.
*on to the next REAL visit*
there were a good number of customers inside little fish when we walked in. the smoothies they sell seemed to take a long time. we left to walk around.
when we arrived the second time, there was no line. =) ordered a 16 oz  iced coffee. it was very good. prices are reasonable too.
there are SF Giants stuff along the wall, including a tim linceucum bobble head. apparently, their relatives who own part of the coffee shop live in santa cruz, ca. heheh.
which reminds me most recently of MATT CAIN's PERFECT GAME!!! Â =D
Little Fish Coffee -- best cup of coffee I had on the island. Do yourself a favor and make a pit stop here on your way up to Waimea Canyon. This is a small, quirky shop with fun decor and imaginative coffee drinks. I adored the Turkish Hammer: coffee with cream and cardamom. if you are in or near Hanapepe, this place is definitely worth a visit--great drinks and lots of character. They are not open on Sundays, and aside from Friday, they're only open until 2pm.
Review Source:Perfect coffee!
I ordered my signature -- Hazelnut Latte Breve -- and it was absolutely perfect: great brew, great flavor, perfect balance, not too sweet. Â
Also had a parmesan bagel with a jalapeno and cucumber shmear. Â Good GOD it was the perfect breakfast!
Could I use the word "perfect" any more?
We were on vacation to Kauai and didn't get out in time for breakfast. Â We have a young son, so we always fed him and had our coffee and breakfast before hitting the road every day. Â But the day we flew out, I was determined to stop in here on our way past, and I am so glad I did! Â It was delicious, and everything you expect an excellent coffee shop to be. Â They also have fresh fruit and smoothies. Â I wish I could have come back a dozen times and tried it all!!
Very good coffee... Very good people. Â I was rockin coffee here daily, because it's damn good. Â If you are not staying near here, but find yourself driving by the area on your way somewhere, you would be a fool not to check it out. Â I would give 6 stars if I could hang out there in the early evening, that said... I understand.
Review Source:We only came in for a coffee so that's the only thing I can remark upon. We ordered the Vanilla Jitterbug and hands down that was the best cold drink we had on the island. I wish I could have tried more things but it's quite telling if we were both willing to go out of the way just to get that drink again.
Review Source:Try the homemade hummus! Â My husband and I split the "hippie bagel" for breakfast. Â Hummus, Tomato slice, cucumber and sprouts. Â A little piece of heaven!
This place is soooooooo sooooo good. Â The decor, the ambiance, the customer service is amazing. Â It's funny, as a tourist I wanted to be committed to trying as many places as I could, but after having the their ginger-infused, fresh-brewed, iced green tea along with a bacon & blue cheese scone..... it was the only place I wanted to go for breakfast each morning the entire week that I was there. Â I limited myself to just 3 times, but it was hard.
They are super friendly, and had toys for my daughter to play with while we waited. Even gave her a Little Fish sticker on our last visit.
Of all the places we went on our vacation, no place stood out to our family as much as this small coffee house in Hanapepe. Wonderful shop owner & laid back locale, perfect coffee & delicious musubi. Our son loved the nutty bagel (peanut butter & nutella)...well worth the trip from Poipu, Lihue or Lafayette!
