Awesome bar. Two warnings: Â 1. Â The bar closes at midnight. 2. Â The couches are so damn comfy you could nap.
The bartenders know the drinks. They will make recommendations. This is not your typical go get wasted with your friends kind of bar. The bartender gave me the remote to the television that was situated by our couches. They have a bookshelf of board games. This place is a great place to hangout and have a few drinks.
Located in the heart of downtown Redwood City on Broadway, there is only street parking. Â After dinner, a friend and I meandered over to The Living Room having no idea that i was karaoke night on Thursdays. Â We ended up listening to some pretty good amateur singers, but it was a little difficult to listen to the DJ/host try to coax people to come up. Â The little living rooms are like what Seoul coffee shops have been doing for decades, but it is a welcome import (like tangy fro-yo)! Â Fun atmosphere with some beers on tap, but I will have to re-review after I've been on a non-karaoke night.
Review Source:Dreadful. I chose the highest-end wine, thinking this would introduce the fewest possibilities for error--but I was wrong. Spending 15 dollars for what should be a mildly adequate Pinot is not entirely unheard of, certainly not in the Bay Area and even not in RWC; but here, this amount buys you a completely turned, 3 days sittin' outside the fridge', ain't ne'er heard told of Argon or other methods of maintaining something like freshness with a wine. After two tastebuds-alarming sips I left a proper tip and exited with the majority of my "wine" untouched. For chrissake, people, put a little effort into it. I came here with the most open of minds and best of intentions, and this nasty joint shut that down right quick. In a word: Ewww.
Review Source:Well, now that the Sharks have broken my heart 12 years in a row, I suppose it's time for me to write a review. We spent most of this shortened season watching at the Living Room due to my lack of a job (=no cable). How is spending money on beer cheaper than cable? Unclear, don't ask me!
The servers are really nice, especially the one that works Monday nights. They not only happily let you bring your food in but they provide you with take out menus, plates, and silverware! Amazing. In case you were wondering, we mainly ate Five Guys & sushi from Yokohama.
The beer is not super cheap (thank god) which means it's all pretty delicious. Love that they have Scrimshaw (more North Coast Brewing please!) and feature guests beers. The Blanche de Bruxelles and Affligem are also tasty.
The best part are all the huge TVs that are all over the place; people don't usually mind if you turn up the volume during a really important game too! The sofas are super comfy and I really do feel like I'm in my living room. It doesn't have that stale beer smell that a lot of "sports bars" tend to have. Also, it's not really a sports bar as it's more mellow and super comfortable atmosphere.
We'll be back next season!
Great atmosphere, awesome staff. I go here to wind down with a beer but their wine selection is great too. I can always guarantee a great conversation with a stranger up at the bar or be able to meet some friends and lounge around on couches. If you don't want to be stuck yelling over loud, obnoxious music, here you go... you've found it.
Review Source:This place is a wine/beer lounge. Â The champagne they have is just awful. Â Some of the wines are decent (Fogerty). Â But, there is one female bartender with brown hair that is such a sour witch. Â I mean seriously, unhappy and scowling. Â I don't know how people like her get or keep jobs in the service industry. Â And, I am sorry, a tank top with that type of physique is inappropriate. Â Nobody wants to see that. Â Please put on a sweater. Â There are so many amazing people out there with great personalities. Â This place needs to swap her out ASAP.
Review Source:I am very sadly dropping down my review to about a 2 - 2.5 stars. Â I left the Bay Area for the last 6 months of 2012. Â Before I left, my family and I often visited the Living Room; at least once a month a group of 6-10 of us would come out to happy hour drinks and appetizers. Â Also my cousin and I would come out for karaoke or brunch a minimum of once a month as well with friends. However I don't think we will be making The Living Room a tradition so much anymore
Since returning home in about the past month I have been to The Living Room about 4-5 times for brunch, karaoke, happy hour and one of those happy hour visits included coming with a group of about 9 people.  The same bartender has been present at every one of these visits and not once has she made any comment acknowledging that she has met us before. When I used to come the owner of the bar would recognize us. I doubt she knew exactly who we were but just knowing that she recognized us from past visits made us feel  more welcome as repeat customers.
The Sunday brunch used to be one of my favorite things about the Living Room. You used to pay one set price for a meal and unlimited mimosas for Sunday brunch. Â Based on the price then with tax and with tip it came out to $20/person which made it very easy as a group.
Now The Living Room does not open until 12pm on Sundays (brunch used to be 10am - 3pm). Â On their Facebook page it still says 10am and as of the writing of this review you could not access their website. Â I am fine with changing of the times but I think it should be changed online otherwise you will arrive early expecting them to be open.
Also it is now not one combined price for the meal and drinks. It is $9.95 for the bottomless mimosas (12pm-3pm) and then it seems about $8-$11 for the meal. Â I think it just makes it simpler to offer a brunch package i.e. food and meal for one total price especially because most who go to this are going in a group and just makes it simpler for paying (I do get offering just a food or mimosa package as well but a combined food/drink works well for a brunch offering).
Also none of our group was impressed with the service. Â First off we were never told that they were out of the BLT; only because we overheard the bartender telling another group did we know this. Â Then my cousin ordered a meal. Â After ordering she was informed they were out of the gravy so she had to re-order,not a big deal. Â Then 3 of the 4 dishes were brought out. Â At this time(and no time before) I was informed they were out of spinach so they could not make my benedict florentine so they asked if I wanted something else. Â It does not seem very professional to wait until all my friends' food has come out to tell me this. Â I did not end up ordering anything as it just seemed odd to place an order after all my friends had begun eating. Â Also to be out of 3 meals when you only offer about 8 meals seems a bit limiting.
For the majority of time we were there for brunch it was not busy, mostly there was just 3 groups (each group had 3-4 people).  However during our time on at least two occasions we were empty on mimosas long enough that I had to go up to the bar and request refills.  There were times when we were empty for awhile and I looked up and the bartender was texting on her phone.  I have no problem with a bartender texting/eating/etc... if there is nothing to do in the bar for customers but first priority should be serving customers and then attending to personal needs. Before when I used to come  to brunch our drinks were never empty.  Perhaps if we hadn't received such good service in the past then it would not seem such a big deal now.
Also I have always thought it a bit expensive. Â When the website used to be accessible they talked about one of the pros of wine from a keg being that it makes it cheaper. Â However the cheapeast wine they offer is $7 (the rest being about $8-$12). .I don't find this to be any cheaper than other wine being offered on the Peninsula. Â I have no problem with the prices they charge but I don't like the claim that it is a cheaper process when really you are just charged the same as you would be at any other bar on the Peninsula. Â
I will say the DJ for Karaoke is great and has a lot of energy and enthusiasm and I really enjoy watching Karaoke on Thursday nights!
Again I really used to love this bar especially since it worked for many different types of outings (happy hour, karaoke, brunch, etc...) and I am hoping the service we have experienced this past month is a fluke but if it continues then I see us just staying home for drinks in the future or finding other bars rather than hitting up The Living Room.
Wine on draft, say what? I like it! Â This was a nice spot to grab a quick glass of wine before the symphony. Â The cozy couches were already full, but there was comfortable seating at the bar. Â I didn't end up trying any of the draft wines, but the list looked pretty nice. Â I don't find myself in Redwood City often and when I go, I prefer to try new places, but this place is definitely worth another try before the symphony.
Review Source:Two years ago, five friends from college went to the Living Room on a Friday night to catch up and it was not very packed. Maybe it was still new then and the word was not yet out. But we returned last night for a surprise birthday party with 16 guests. We were lucky to get the the rear living room, but the place was packed on a Saturday night. They let us bring in cake and snacks, which we washed down with their excellent selection of beer. It is great to see this place become a popular hang out and doing well. It is a compliment to the staff, who have been friendly as ever both times. We'll be back.
Review Source:Meh, what a weird setup.  Almost a cool all around Sunday brunch.  Then came the food. Ugh!  Why would you have such a cool spot, and then serve such horrible food from the worst restaurant in downtown?  We actually left to run down to Denny's to eat  during halftime. DENNY'S! I think the people hanging out in the Living Room were nice and friendly.  I'll have to try it again, just without eating there. I think  next  time we'll bring our own food.
Review Source:Super chill place that looks, well, like a living room. Â Even though I came here for one for the NLCS wins, I wouldn't necessarily return to watch a sporting event. Â Might be better for older crowd but I'm more of a rah-rah sports bar go-er. Â However, if you just want to kick back w/ friends, this is a good spot for that.
Review Source:This place should be called "The Living Rooms" rather than "The Living Room". Â The place is set up with a bunch of living rooms so that parties can get together in their own living room complete with couches, tables, TVs and I think a few have fireplaces.
I came here for Sunday brunch with a large group and had brilliant time. Â Good and polite crowd. Â Bring an extra $10 here for Sunday brunch and perhaps take public transportation as the Caltrain is nearby. Â As I say many times, you can thank me later. Â :)
Out in Redwood City on a Friday night, looking for a place to hang out after a late dinner. Our rather large group of about 8-9 was ultimately looking for standard bar, but I'm so glad we stumbled across this place instead. We ordered a selection of wine and beer (served in awesome goblets) and immediately spotted Apples to Apples. Had a blast playing this game, though I hope we weren't being too loud in an otherwise rather quiet/chill environment.
It was past midnight by the time I looked at my phone, and I'm pretty sure they were supposed to be closed but there was still a sizable crowd inside. The bartender offered to make us a pot of coffee to wake us up before we all drove home.
Definitely a great experience and I'll be back to show off this place to others.
On November 6th, 2008, I was living in San Francisco and watching with great anticipation to see who the next President of the United States would be. My roommates and some friends huddled around the television, with glasses of wine, wearing our Democratic t-shirts and buttons. I even went so far as to write "Obama '08" on my face, but because I'd had quite a few drinks, and wrote it while looking in my bedroom mirror, it actually said, "80 amabO." To this day I have still not lived that down! When Obama won, it was like New Years Eve in the city; people were running around the streets celebrating, and the bar we went to down the street from our place was filled with supporters rejoicing for change!
Fast-forward to 2012, and I'm no longer the single girl in the city with my roommates; I'm married and live in the burbs, but I still wanted to experience that electric feeling and comradery I had four years ago, so we headed over to the Living Room to watch the election instead of cozying up at home. This lounge is set up as just you would expect, a living room, but one where you have multiple flat screen televisions, various plush couches and chairs, soothing fireplaces with crackling fires, and most importantly, your own personal bartender (: This was the perfect spot to watch the election; we celebrated with champaign when the results came in around 8:15, and lounged about in front of the cozy fireplace until the acceptance speech around 10:45. A great spot to reign in moving forward for the next four years.
Excellent place to catch a sports game and that's exactly what I did during the Giants 2012 playoff run. Â Plenty of great beers on tap from all over California. Â The best and unique of all is that you are able to bring in your own food so I did some tacos and quesadillas from the nearby El Grullense. Â The Living Room has menus of some local places which will deliver the food to the Living Room but I was in a mood for Mexican food. Â Too bad we don't have a place like this in the East Bay. Â The Living Room is not just a fancy name for this place, it really does have a living room feel.
Review Source:Emily and Pat the bartenders were absolutely fantastic! Never had to wait for a drink and very accommodating with all the snacks we brought too. Very friendly with the tasting we couldn't decide which. Not overly crowded and everyone cheering for the Giants (complimentary champagne shooters) although couldn't understand why someone had the pres debate on...LOL.
Great Giants win game 7!
This place has a kick ass well executed concept. Friendly bartenders and a cool beer list. The wine was merely ok, but the environment more than made up for it. A cool place to grab a drink after dinner down the block. The beer was good, and the people were too.
I will definitely come back next time I'm around. Maybe I'll get bellige and pass out on the couch.
I don't always write reviews, but when I do...
Anyways, this place is AWESOME. It even has Karaoke on Thursdays AND you don't have to wait that long to sing. The bartenders are all awesome and the atmosphere at this place can't be beat. They only serve food at certain times, but they are okay with people bringing outside food. Perfect place for a date, hanging out with friends, or making new friends! I recommend this place to everyone!
I took a date here for the first time. Â We were both impressed by the layout of The Living Room. Â We got to relax on a couch and watch the Giants' game in a semi-private booth. Â While there was a crowd we got to chat uninterrupted. Â
Morgan, the bartender was engaging and funny. Â He made us feel at home. Â He recommended food from the restaurant next door which turned out to be quite good.
The crowd reminded me of a house party. Â Everyone was interacting with each other even though they were all from different crowds.
We had an absolute blast and will absolutely be back.
The happy hour specials were good. Â And there are some good beers available here. Â The staff was helpful but a bit rushed. Â Never ate here, so can't comment on that.
The space is a bit awkward, though. Â The large window pane makes it seem like you're in a store after hours, and drinking while people are peering in checking out the wares in the store. Â It worked for the last business housed there, but unfortunately, not for a bar.
5 stars for being the place I discovered Apples to Apples board game. Such a hilarious and engaging game to play with a group. Â TV in front of each "living area" is also great for watching basketball. Â Very close to the movie theatre where we were transported to a nostalgic time of silent movies and forced to confront the demons in all of us that resist the opportunities for growth. The Artist!
-1 star for their limited non alcoholic drink menu.
It's like being in somebody's living room! lol I love it!!!
My buddies and I stopped by our adventure to Old Port Lobster Shack and I was just expecting your normal bar but boy was I wrong.
My first impression walking in was, "damn it sure it cozy in here" and then I noticed all of the couches and each set of couches was facing a TV. THEN after we got all comfy on the couches I noticed that each section had their own remote so we are free to watch whatever we'd like :D There are also games there so you can play those or just sit down and relax.
I came in expecting your typical beer on tap but then I noticed they have wine on tap too. I'm not much of a wine guy yet but when I do get more comfortable with it, I'll have to try that out. I ended up getting the full flight, which is a sampler of all the beers on tap and they place it on this little board with the beer logos on there so you know which one your drinking. I suggest getting that to see which beer you like and then order a pint of that.
The owner was really nice and helpful with everything. He really made you feel at home, kind of like you were a guest at his house and he's a really great host. They have some food but not much of a selection so the owner is encourages you to bring in outside food if your hungry.
Great place to stop by, relax, and grab a beer or some wine.
This place really does have a living room feel, with lots of couches, flat screens and board games that you can play. Â The crowd here on a Friday night felt more like an older crowd, with everyone enjoying a glass of wine while playing an old school board game. Â They have a huge beer & wine selection, but I wished they at least had a few specialty cocktails. Â
The restaurant that serves their food closes at 10pm, which was a bummer because we got there right after 10. Â The servers were super nice about it, though, and let us know that some guests order Pizza My Heart for delivery there, or that we were always welcome to buy food from elsewhere and bring it back. Â They were so chill about bringing outside food!
Located right in downtown RWC, there's a parking garage right next door, or a parking lot right across the street, so it's pretty convenient.
Overall, it's a nice hang out spot. Â Since I don't actually live in RWC, not sure it's a place worth the trek to come hang out, especially since their drink choices are limited to just beer & wine. Â But otherwise, I can see why it's a good neighborhood hang out spot.
Best. Monday. Night. Ever!!!!
I came here with about 8 people tonight. Â The reason for me coming here? Â A farewell get together for a friend of mine. Â Pat was at the bar and he was great. Â He was super friendly and gave us a heads up of an area that was clearing out (we were looking for a spot that could seat all of us comfortably). Â We could have sat at the bar but we really did want to make use of one (or more) of the couches.
As I mentioned before, this place is cute. Â It's got couches and flat screens. The fake fire places are a nice touch. Â What made this place even more awesome was this:
We decided to play this crazy game called "cards against humanity". Â Mind you, you have to have a sick twisted sense of humor to get this game. (In other words, someone like me and the crazy group I was with). Â We played this game and we're roaring with laughter. Â After a while, it was just us. Â No other patrons were in the bar so we did the one thing that made the most sense. Â We invited Pat to come and join us. Â
He laughed and thoroughly enjoyed the game with us.  We played on well passed closing time and it was glorious.  At some point, his boss called  he tried convincing her to come and play with us.  I wish she had.  She probably would have enjoyed it, too.
Why I like this place. Â It felt like home. Â We were all comfy in our seats, surrounding a coffee table. Â It didn't feel like we were in a lounge at all. Â It just felt like we, as friends, were in someone's house playing a card game. Â The plus to that was that ever time our drinks were low, Pat got up and got us more. Â It after all a lounge. Â For the most part, we just forgot that it was. Â
Another bonus aside: the place it's clean. Â
oooh and to add to that! Â Pat told us that Sundays they serve mimosas and brunch till 3pm!
I will definitely continue to visit this place. Â How could I not after a night like this.
Love the name...The Living Room....curious for a while now.
I had visions of comfortable couches.  So when it's time to meet with a dear friend I haven't seen for two years  I said lets meet at someone else's living room:)
Parking is a bit difficult d/t RWC. Not this night. Found parking just around the corner. Found my friend waiting for me outside TLR.
We chose to sit all the way in the back in a green room:) picked a love seat and started catching up. I made a mental note that the love seat may not be a good one after all for me. I prefer the slouchy couch as opposed to the hard leather that we sat on. There's about four choices of the comfy slouchy couches around.
If you feel feel like hanging out at the bar it looks very inviting:)
We both started with a glass of Chardonnay. Â I was dying to try their beer from Belgium-Moretti. So I did! It was smooth and light. A perfect pair for a heavy burger and fries.
TLR gets their food from the restaurant next door. They only serve imported beers and I can't wait to go back for more.
Great local hangout in downtown RWC!
Came here with a friend last week after enjoying lobster rolls nearby, and we hung out on a cozy couch, played Connect 4 until we forgot the name of the game, and had a great time overall!
The place was a bit deserted at first, but then more people showed up, so the atmosphere got better.
Loved the wine out of a keg, really cool!
Stumbled upon this place while walking around one night, loved it so much, decided to have my birthday party here.
Two weeks later, this place was booked two hours, on a Saturday, from 8-10PM. Â Private party, so they closed their doors and only our guests were able to join the fun. They had a minimum that needed to be met to close this place down, I believe it was $800, which is kind of hard to rack up with just beer and wine on tap. No hard liquor.
We catered our own food, brought it along, pushed some tables together and bam, we were set up.
When we came, there were a few customers there, they were nice enough to let us know when we were ready and they will ask them to leave. We just said when they're done with their drinks, no need to force them out.
One problem, there was a couple that was at the corner drinking, very slow, taking their time and after 40 minutes later I decided to say something to the workers to see what was going on. Ya, ya when they're done drinking... I turned around a little bit later and they have new drinks! What's going on here? So my BF decided to just ask them himself and they said oh the bartender gave it to them.. then the bartender walked over and was like oh... um.. sorry. What?? Turns out, they seem to know each other, I'm guessing they were friends and he was letting them hang out, like we wouldn't notice? They went out to have a smoke with each other then left, ya, they had to be friends, one star down for that service.
Anyway, I had their stout all night, good.
Heard everyone else enjoyed their drinks and they do make their own soda which some where good. Â Guess it depends how much was being mixed it cause I had two and one was better than the other.
Overall, I did have a great time there during normal hours and was a great spot for our private party. Â There was a little hiccup with the server and his friends, but other than that, they had great service and made the night wonderful.
I randomly found The Living Room on Yelp and was immediately won over. Couches, wine and TV's - what's not to like? So imagine my excitement when they agreed to host the first CMYE in 2011!
This place is *super* cute. Community couches in a restaurant/bar could get gross, but these seating vessels are just nice and comfy. And they have a ton of couches and chairs, too. They're arranged in several mini living rooms, complete with fireplaces and flat screen TV's.
Although I cannot review the CMYE itself, I can comment on the wine I drank afterwards, as well as the food from next door that accompanied the wine. The house white was delicious and paired nicely with the prawn pasta. Dinner and a few glasses of vino cost less than $30, which is pretty reasonable in this neck of the woods.
Here's also a little secret: The Living Room hosts a Sunday brunch with bottomless mimosas. $15. Sign me up!
A few weeks back some buddies and I made a special trip to check out the latest addition to the Redwood City bar scene. What we found was good beer on tap (especially the stout), good keg wine on tap, lots of big-screen TVs, comfy chairs and couches, and even one of those plug-in Amish fireplaces (a concept I still can't quite grasp...you know, with all that 'avoidance of technology' thing).
But the owners and staff are the coolest thing about the place - Super-friendly and laid back. We hit it off immediately, and we were chuckling over their 80's high school prom picture of themselves displayed on the bar (complete with bad, feathered haircuts)
As far as the space itself, I liked the concept, but I didn't think they had it quite right; It looked more like a furniture showroom than a cozy, inviting living room. Something about the arrangement seemed a little too formal. Maybe more chairs and less couches; or more run-down furniture...I don't know.
And another potential issue - Only one, unisex bathroom; If the place ever takes off, they will need to fix that.
Still, The Living Room is worth another visit, and I can easily see myself hanging here to watch a game. To be continued.
