Great food, great service. Â We went here with group of four and everyone loved their meal. Â We started with the peppers stuffed with sausage and bruschetta. Â The peppers were served with a red sauce and were just spicy enough, absolutely delicious. Â The bruschetta was served as four pieces and was delicious as well. Â The garlic bread was topped with fresh tomatoes and was easy to pick up and eat. Â The bread was soft in the middle with a crunch crust. Â The linguine ala Livio had plenty of large shrimp and scallops and the garlic wine sauce was delicious. Â The salad was also very good and served with the best croutons I ever tasted. Â This is certainly a hidden treasure.
Review Source:Great old school Italian - Banana peppers stuffed with Italian sausage are a great way to start the meal, or the Calamari, which is good because it isn't all breading. Â
Linguine Ala Livio is pasta with scallops and shrimp in a garlic and white wine sauce that we order all the time. Â Nice variety on the menu.
The interior is a little quirky - seashore, but the staff is friendly, reasonably priced and consistently good.
Coming here feels for me a slice of Chicago's best Italian tastes of garlic and maranara sauce in the heart of St. John IN. Â The pasta is served with quality and keen service. Â There isn't a place like this for miles in this town, and I enjoy sitting inside a lively Italian restaurtant such as this one.
Review Source:This is my favorite restaurant in the area. I recently moved to Boston and this is probably the restaurant I miss most. I wish I had a place nearby that was as comfortable and casual yet with such delicious food and fantastic service.
The food is uniformly excellent. It's not anything fancy for sure, it's just good, classic Italian fare cooked perfectly with lots of flavor. Their chicken piccata is the quintessential chicken piccata to me (get the angel hair pasta as the side without red sauce so you can mix it with the lemon sauce instead). Mussels marinara are absolutely perfect, every single time. The pizza, to me, is second only to State Line in the region. Lasagna is huge and rich.
I've only sat in the bar room, so I can't speak to the main area up front, but the atmosphere is so laid back and friendly. Cocktails have always been well made and wine is probably the best deal in the place. The waitresses are absolutely wonderful. My parents have become regulars here and when my Dad needed a special cooking request for a few weeks they were more than willing to accommodate.
I honestly don't know what "food snob" is talking about. This place is fantastic.
Hello,FOOD SNOB HERE. Â The best thing about this place is the bar area. Â It is cozy with cozy booths on both sides. Â However the bartender I had did not know how to make a Martini. Â
The Italian food seems more americanized then authentic. If you know what I mean. Â The pizza is O K. Â If you do not like smoke, do not go in the smoking area. Â It is like a chimney in there. Â I was not to crazy about the wine list. Â I payed good money for a bottle of wine that tasted like it was half water. Â Â Went there with a party of 20 people and reserved a private room. Â Did not get that. Â They put us in the corner just as you come in. Â That sucked.
We always laugh about the stuffed peppers appetizer. Â Surprise, one could be stuffed with mild sausage. Â The next one will burn your mouth.
My biggest TURN OFF is that they cater more to the regulars.
Atmosphere is quiet, and booths have their own dimmer switch, which is nice. Â There is a full dining room on one side of the building. Â The other side has a banquet seating area, with partitions if needed, and a U-shape bar.
Waitstaff and bar tenders wear tuxedo shirts/pants and it's quiet. Â There are NO TVs in the dining area, which I love. Â Widescreens available in the bar, which is appropriate.
Pizza and lasagna are great. Â Homemade Italian house dressing is *fabulous* and the warm bread is neverending and wonderful! Â Grilled chicken breast salad is perfect and all portions are large.
Would have gotten 5 stars, but they have a strict, strange reservations policy. Â If you reserve a table for say 5, and 4 of you show up on time, they insist you wait in the lobby until your entire party is there. Â Even though the dining area was sparse and there was room for us to sit and get drinks. Â (A friend was late from work on the Southshore train).
