I love this place. Â I have eaten at L&L since Puyallup, WA, and I must say the food taste just as good as in WA. Â I always order the chicken katsu. Â I didn't know that they have a mini or regular sized plates, I suggest getting the mini sized plates because the regular sized is a lot of food. Â My only problem is that this location doesn't put the katsu sauce in a small container, instead they make the katsu "swim" in sauce.; it's a little much for me. Â So always remember to ask for the sauce on the side or your plate will be drowing with sauce- even the delish mac salad....
Review Source:Works for Me!
L&L has been on "The List" for quite some time, so I finally made my way out to Aurora to try it. Â I'd heard so much about the infamous Hawaiian Macaroni Salad... And I'd legitimately never (ever!) had SPAM before, and my companions for the evening are from Hawaii. Â So these forces combined and Wham-O! Â L&L is a HIT!
Both of my Hawaiian-bred friends felt an immediate sense of home, only heightened by the cooler full of Hawaiian Juices ripe for the grabbing. Â (We grabbed... Too many. Â Passion Fruit. Â Guava. Â Pineapple. Â Teas. Â No High Fructose Corn Syrup. Â Win.) Â Between the three of us, we shared and sampled for the "Full Experience." Â This is what we had:
1: Â Small Loco Moco. Â The Island Tradition/Obsession: Â A mound of white rice, topped with a Hamburger Patty, a Fried Egg, and smothered in Brown Gravy. Â Waffle House ain't got NUTHIN' on *this* Smotherin'! Â It's not winning any Heart Healthy awards by any means, but MAN is this stuff GOOD! Â And it came with the ever-present side of...
MACARONI SALAD.
Don't ask. Â Just eat. Â This stuff is life-changing. Â Life. Â Changing. Â And they'll sell you an extra side to-go for less than $2. Â Because one scoop is never enough.
2: Â Small Hawaiian BBQ Chicken Bowl. Â The bowls come sans the Macaroni Salad. Â I can't understand why anyone wouldn't want it... But okay, for smaller appetites, the bowls are one scoop of steamed white rice topped with (in this case) sweet and tangy Hawaiian BBQ Chicken. Â Reminiscent of the "Bourbon Chicken" at those Food Courts, this too was favorably received and devoured.
3: Â Large Chicken Katsu Platter. Â Two scoops of steamed white rice, the infamous and delicious Macaroni Salad, and crisp-fried, Panko-coated Fried Chicken. Â The "Hawaiian BBQ Sauce" on the side is somewhere between Duck Sauce and Mickey D's Sweet 'n Sour sauce. Â Again, we devoured it happily.
Lastly, and the most exciting moment of the evening:
SPAM MUSUBI! Â Yup. Â I ate SPAM. Â Finally. Â It only took 35 years. Â Bonus: Â I liked it!!! Â Spam musubi is definitely a Hawaiian staple... Apparently you can pick it up at every 7-11 on the Islands, and it's GOOD. Â Think Spam Sushi. Â A thick slice of Spam, griddled in a teriyaki sauce, rolled in seaweed with steamed white rice. Â As apprehensive as I was at that first bite, I quickly realized how surprisingly good and addictive it is. Â I don't know why I was surprised... The magic combination of Salty-Sweet and Porky-Goodness. Â Noms.
So, yeah, L&L was quite the success. Â And I'll have to say how happy I am that it's all the way in Aurora, because if it were nearer to my stomping grounds, we'd have a serious problem.
There's no place like home cuisine from da aina :) Â I'd probably give any L&L in Hawaii 2.5 stars... But seeing as how this L&L is my main local food source in CO... I'd give it 10 stars if I could!!
Guaranteed to run into kama'aina any time you are here. From the local music they play to the honu pics on the wall to the mouth-watering fried ono and guava Hawaiian Sun... This place is a nice taste of home:)
I ordered take out lunch today. Â The restaurant was almost full with about half of the patrons in military uniform (close to Buckley AFB). Â I asked if they had a military discount and I got 10% off my order.
I ordered the Seafood and BBQ Combo (Breaded Shrimp, Mahi Mahi, and Shortribs) with 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of macaroni salad, Ahi Poke, and an order of Spam Musubi.
I waited less than 10 minutes for freshly made Hawaiian food. Â The 3 shrimp and mahi mahi filet were breaded in panko. Â They were light and crispy served with tartar sauce. Â The shortribs were overly seasoned and a little fatty. Â The mac salad was good.
The little cup of Ahi Poke for $3 on the counter in a tub of ice was good and just enough. Â It could have used a little more seasame seed oil.
The Spam Musubi was warm and freshly prepared. Â The spam was grilled will a litle bit of sweet Hawaiian BBQ sauce. Â It was a generous portion for $1.89.
I will definitely be back!
I've bee here twice now, and have no issues. Â Try the canned fruit drinks from Hawaii, decently priced at a dollar. Â It's always busy here, so expect to wait at least 10 mins for your food to come out. Â Timing is essential if you need to sit down and eat here, but patrons are nice enough to vacate the tables when they are done. Â The macaroni salad was pretty good, and I got it as a side for my grilled combo.
Review Source:I've been to L&L twice to give it a fair chance and maybe it's just me but I do not like their food.
The meat always seems to have a huge piece of fat on it that looks indistinguishable to the rest of the course, the fries lack any real flavor on their own and need a good dose of salt and pepper to make them palatable, and the rice really only serves to make the already sub par dish seem like even more sub-par food, which is not something I really wanted more of. I hear the mac salad is good but as I do not particularly like mac salad, I can't make an unbiased opinion on that. If you asked me, I'd recommend another BBQ joint.
I love the food at L&L.
Love the Hawaiian BBQ, love the scoops of rice, love the mac salad that you get on the side. Â All of the meat options you can order are delicious. Â They offer pork, chicken and beef. Â They also have shrimp and some sort of fish.
If you don't know what to order, well, don't overthink it, just get one of their delicious combo plates, you'll be happy. Â Come hungry because portion sizes are big. Â (Or maybe they are adequate if you do come hungry?)
Not sure what constitutes Hawaiian BBQ sauce, it has a sweet-n-soy flavor. Â It works well with the menu. Â (i guess it should considering that it is Hawaiian BBQ...)
Nice people at the L&L, actually, I've only interacted with the young lady at the register, but she has a million-dollar smile and represents the place well.
It calms my heart to know that I live within a 20 mile radius of hawaiian food. Â It also clogs the arteries, so I try to restrict my visits. Â When you get there, though, it is so comforting! Â Hawaiian music...checking out the menu board...trying not to drool! Â
My usual is the lau lau plate which is always super ono. Â I tried the spam saimin once and left disappointed. Â Saimin at McDonalds in Hawaii is better! Â Otherwise, I don't think you can go wrong! Â My husband doesn't care for the mac salad which is fine because that means more for me! Â Meat is unfortunately consistently fatty (wish they put more effort into buying leaner meats or trimming better). Â
Go early for poke (usually sells out) and don't miss your chance to fill up on guava juice/other hawaiian sun drinks.
this stuff is pretty addicting. Especially musubi. I mean, how can you go wrong with the combination of rice and Spam?! (answer is, you can't).
Portions are pretty decent.. although I think I need to go with the mini sizes, as the full size is a bit too big. It comes with the entree, rice, and macaroni salad. It can be a little too much all at once, so I went next door to Jamba Juice afterwards to enjoy a refreshing drink :) I'm not so glad I found this place... my waistline is not going to be too happy.
Just like I remember! It is fast food Hawaiian - so if you are expecting a fabulous experience you are going to be sad! But if you are looking for staples that always taste good and fill you tummy this is the place!
I always get double Mac - bah on the rice, go for the good stuff!
BBQ beef is tasty - but very fatty and a bit of tendon action.
I like the min size, but if you can control yourself the regular size is good for 2 meals!
Staff is friendly a d deals with the suburbanites very well!
Best part - spam musubi! Woot
I will make the drive to aurora for this place!
Authentic Hawaiian food at a reasonable price. Â Got the BBQ Mixed Plate with Macaroni Salad. Â What a treat. Â The food is fantastic! Â Hands down the best in Denver and every bit as good as what you get in the Islands.
Don't conjure up high expectation about a fancy dinning room with Hawaiian music. Â L&L is a simple concept where you walk up and order. Â The place is generally crowded and even the dine in food is served in disposable containers with plastic utensils.
I've been dying to come here for quite some time. Â Once a coworker said he loved this place and it's been in my head ever since then.
Finally got it in my mind that today was the day and decided to try my luck. Â I arrived late Saturday, maybe around 3-4ish and the place was hopping. Â
I have read most of the Yelp reviews and knew I wanted to try something simple that's a fan favorite. Â I decided on the Katsu Chicken, panko fried chicken (huge portion), two scoops of rice and one scoop of mayo based macaroni salad. Â The chicken was good, dipped in the katsu sauce even better. Â The rice was a little too cooked for my taste, a nice compliment to the meal. Â Classic macaroni salad, definitely mayo based and hits the spot with the chicken and katsu sauce. Â
Next time I come back I'm definitely going to try some of the other proteins, the pork, the beef, the combo platter. Â It's all coming up my alley.
One thing I want to mention is that is took a while to get my food. Â Not a turn off just interesting considering this place hosts counter ordering which you inevitably think leads to a pretty fast turn around time on food. Â I waited 25-30 minutes for my food on a not so busy Saturday. Â I wonder if that's the norm here? Â The next time I might order ahead.
Great take on BBQ, and a nice addition to the BBQ family.
Kalua Pig. Â Macaroni salad. Â That's about all that needs to be said about this place. Â Both of these things are stellar and are what keeps me coming back to this place time and time again. Â It's so good, I've gotten my mom hooked on it! Â When I'm on the way to L & L, I simply tell her, "I'm going for the pig today!" Â That usually causes her to be super jealous because she doesn't live close enough to this place to be a regular like I am (she still gets there plenty, though).
This place is always packed, so they must be doing lots right. Â They've got everything from Spam to mahi mahi on the menu. Â They are known for that addictive macaroni salad. Â While there, grab yourself a couple of cans of Hawaiian Sun, cans of goodness in a variety of flavors like passion fruit tea or mango drink.
Having been born and raised in Hawaii, L&L Hawaiian BBQ is a nice place to get "local kine food." It is a small place and usually fairly busy; I find it best to call ahead and place my order beforehand. During busy periods, just expect to wait for your food, since for the most part they are making the main part of your meal fresh.
I have tried their Hawaiian BBQ beef, chicken katsu, Potagee (Portuguese) sausage musubi, spam saimin, Hawaiian BBQ beef saimin, Â lau lau special, and most of the side dishes. Until recently, my favorite was the lau lau, but the last time I got the lau lau it was dry, so I haven't had it since. My go to meal is now either the saimin (if I'm eating in) and/or the Hawaiian BBQ beef. Of course the musubi for snacking. The malasadas are delicious, however, they seem to sell out quickly. They also have poki, but once again, this tends to sell out quickly.
As someone who doesn't like to cook, this place does it for me. In general, I am not a fan of their kalua pig, because on the 'aina I grew up on, cabbage was only added to kalua pig when we had it as leftovers to make the meal stretch longer. Trust me, while I was growing up, some of my extended family did luau catering and there was no cabbage thrown in the ground with the pig to cook.
I usually go for the mini plate and there is enough food for two meals; even without snacking on the musubi, sesame balls, or malasadas.
I've been so apprehensive of eating here for ages. Â So I've been putting off a visit for months until suddenly, the mood stuck me and I headed here for lunch with my coworker, Ruby N.
I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I wasn't expecting a tiny, bright shop, jam packed with happy customers. Â (I can only hope that description holds true of Hawai'i as well!) Â We evidently arrived during the lunch rush because there were no tables available. Â Luckily, there is plenty of outdoor seating when the forever changing Colorado weather allows it.
So we jumped into the relatively long queue and perused the menu. Â Nice and simple, which I like when it comes to new restaurants. Â I took Kathleen A's advice and went for a beef dish: Â the Hawaiian BBQ beef. Â I ordered the mini, which was just enough grub for me! Â So along with the beef, you get a scoop of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad. Â Nom nom nom! Â The beef was a little too fatty for me, but it's pretty easy to cut any undesirable chunks off.
I'm pleasantly surprised I liked L&L. Â I had no idea what to expect but I should expect good things when the inspiration is coming from the Pacific.
Hooray! Â I'm very pleased that L&L is just a short drive from the AMC. Â This will definitely become a regular lunch joint for me.
I love this place, and I'm a regular here. Loco Moco, BBQ Short Rib, LauLau, these are just a few of my favorite things to eat here. It's a really calm, chilled out atmosphere. Great for a date night. Umm... yeah come here and eat!!!
This place would get a 4 out of 5 if they served beer on tap... omg i just creamed my pants thinking about. Ooo!
Om nom nom... Sometimes.
Pros: When it's good, it is GOOD. Spam musubi is my favorite. If we are ever about to go on road trips and I am too lazy to make my own (which is always), we stop by for a handful of them from L&L. Food can be tasty and interesting and large portions.
Neutrals: Fatty cuts of meat. I say neutral because I think it is disgusting, but it's my brother's favorite part of eating here. Also lots of mayonnaise on the macaroni salad. Basically, if you're indulging, this is good. If you're dieting, stay far far away.
Cons: When it's bad, it is BAD. I've had undercooked / overcooked / over-salted / bland food on multiple ocassions.
Like another reviewer said, you just have to take the chance and see how they do that day. Guaranteed though, they're always packed at lunch and they have a loyal fan base.
The funny thing about L&L is that its quality changes depending when you go. I noticed the staff changes pretty often too so maybe that's why? Â I have had everything from soggy rice to uncooked rice here. Once when I got a Saimin I got sick afterwards but I still come back. Why? When their good, they are really good.
I grew up in Hawaii so I have learned a few things on the mainland.
1. For some odd reason everyone thinks pineapple makes a dish Hawaiian. While tasty pineapple isn't even a native plant.
2. Hawaiian food is a melange of a lot of cuisine and can be anything from gourmet to down home but not many people outside of Hawaii know about it.
3. People are scared of Spam.
Now L&L has the items I crave but don't want to spend the time making, Haupia which is a Hawaiian coconut custard, Loco Moco which originated in Hilo and is a hamburger patty on a scoop of rice with a soft fried egg covered in brown gravy and LauLau which is traditionally taro leaves with salt pork or fish wrapped in ti leaves and steamed. Their take on Malasadas tastes like fried Pillsbury not the lightly lemon scented Portuguese doughnuts of my youth. Â I just wish they had some consistency. I really hate gambling my money on a meal and hoping for the best.
And as previous reviewers noted, the place isn't that clean and orders can take a while to get to you.
Was here with Hubs for lunch, Monday July 11th 2011, after running some errands in this part of the neighborhood. Â Thankfully we made it in time either before or after the lunch crowd Madness. Â Time was : 12:10hrs ish. Â Managed to dine in and have a place to seat at this tiny establishment.
Hubs order the Chicken Katsu, while I opt for the L & L Hawaiian BBQ Mix. Â We made our order at the counter and waited for our order to be ready. Â If I am not mistaken like about 15 to 20 minutes of waiting time, the lady who took our order, called our name.
YES the portions are HUGE, to some. Â But, nothing spectacular nothing special. Â The macaroni salad, looks so sad, taste more to MEH for both of us. Â Hubs does not like his order at all. Â He felt that his order does not have any flavor and the Chicken was OVER-FRIED aka OVER-COOKED.
Hubs order came with a sauce of some kind.  From their website, they mentioned, the Chicken Katsu dish comes with their special L&L Hawaiian Barbecue® Chicken Katsu sauce.  In order to taste more palatable,  Hubs add the Sriracha sauce.  He does not like to put any Sriracha sauce to "add more flavor" or spice level to his food so his verdict was DISAPPOINTING.
As for my order, I feel that the sauce they cook the Beef, Chicken and Beef Short Ribs, felt short in many levels. Â Perhaps we ordered the wrong dishes from this establishment. Â Hence, sorry people, this establishment is way over-rated and we dont share the same sentiments.
Our order was $21, with beverage aka soda and tax. Â While we were there many more patrons dining in and have their orders to go.
HOLY FRIGGIN PIGOUT SON!!!!
The cuisine of Hawaii is very exotic- it blends a lot of different cultures together and I even see similarities from my own Filipino roots. Again, Hans calls me and asks to meet him for lunch- I of course obliged.
I haven't had Hawaiian BBQ, so I didn't quite know what to expect. The three of us ordered different things- Matt, the beef/shortribs/chicken combo, Hans, the Chicken Katsu and for myself the BBQ Chicken.
Each combo comes in a few sizes and I chose the mini. This was a good size but I could have used another scoop of rice (I am asian after all). Â Each comes with a side of this amazingly heart stopping side of macaroni salad as well. Â I did like my chicken but it was dark meat-I'm more of a white meat kinda gal. I truly enjoyed Hans' Chicken Katsu (Deep fried awesomeness) and a side of their BBQ Sauce. Â However, the true star of the meal was Matt's beef. Â It reminded me of Korean BBQ!! But without the nasty sides! Yeah!
To top off this amazing meal: Malasadas. Think beignets, or donuts rolled in sugar. You usually see them at Chinese buffets. A delicious deep-fried treat even though I was already stuffed to the gills.
Too bad the location sucks. At least for me. I'd be here every day and about 500 lbs heavier.
On our way through Aurora, we decided to hit L&L based on Yelp recommendations - better than hitting something standard and boring! Â I was pleasantly surprised by the crowd and the line - must be good I thought.
The menu is full of options and there are all kinds of specials if you make sure to look at the postings on the board and the sheets around the menu.
We ordered the Kahlua Pork and BBQ Chicken - in addition, we tried the Lomi Salad and the Sesame Balls. Â This is a true 3-star review as Yelp describes it - A-Ok. Not amazing, not bad - A-ok. Â A couple things - this is not a fast food restaurant - it took a good 10+ minutes to get our food. Â Second, if I were rating on the Sesame Balls, i would give this place 10 stars. Â Finally, the servers are very nice and patient despite the crowds.
I would happily eat here again, but not on my definitely must go back list (unless of course I am aching for some sesame balls)!
I know nothing about Hawaiian barbecue, so I can't tell you how this compares to other Hawaiian BBQ places. Â I can only tell you that I liked it. Â Be warned, though, if you are looking for a decent place to take someone to dinner. Â This is more fast food feeling that I had thought, when I brought six people here for dinner.
I had the weekend platter. Â Lau lau, Kalua Pork, macaroni salad and rice. Â All was quite good. Â I also ordered some Spam musubi. Â I tried my son's shortribs. Â All were very good. Â I would not necessarily go out of my way to eat here, but if in the area, I likey. Â The staff was very nice, too.
I'm from Hawaii and grew up eating plate lunches. Â I just moved to Colorado in July and was thrilled to see that there was an L&L, even though back in Hawaii the L&Ls are kind of sketchy. Â I didn't care. Â I wanted to try!
I wasn't disappointed. Â In about three weeks time I've been back on five separate occasions. Â I usually have the chicken katsu which is the same as you would get back home. Â I tried the kalua pork --- it was served with cabbage and it was good. Â The mac salad is good, just like home, same with the rice.
I always get a half dozen hot malasadas; it's not Leonard's but they certainly hit the spot. Â I usually always get some manapua too, and it's served very hot and very similar to home.
L&L serves lau lau on the weekends only. Â I tried it once; it was pretty good, but kind of dry. Â Still...it was lau lau. Â Have to eat it when I see it! Â Too bad there was no poi. Â
I haven't ordered the loco moco yet, but intend to. I have seen others order it a lot, however, and it's a big portion and looks YUM.
I will go back to L&L many times, I am sure. Â It's fun to sit there and pick out which people are from Hawaii --- there are a few.
Meat lovers will love this place. All sorts of grilled, barbecue and fried meat here. I'm from California so L&L is easily found there. Craving for a spam musubi, I drove to Aurora's L&L. I think I would have liked this place a lot better if I had their "take-out" and never experienced the dine-in. While dining in, I couldnt help but noticed how dirty the place was.
The floor had paper wrappers, dirty straws, and random forks/spoon. The tables were really dirty. I had to wipe one down myself before using it. While eating my food, the chair kept sticking my shirt. I got up to wipe down the chair that I was using too.
I got their saimin noodle with Hawaiian bbq chicken, spam musubi, and a side of mac salad. It was all solid junk food. I mean... if you're on a diet, dont come here. My mac salad was covered in a very thick heavy layer of mayo. I tend to like my mac salad lighter in terms of the mayo but this place give it to ya h-e-a-v-y.
I'd be back if I'm craving for spam musubis. I'll probably never dine in again though. Â
Before I forget, they have dim-sum style sesame balls. 3 for $1.25. I thought that was a cool option to have available to the customers.
Dear L & L,
Much like a door to door hatchet wielding ice cream salesman, a game of lawn darts on a sunny day, or choosing L&L for lunch;  from my experience, an afternoon with any of you is a dangerous gamble.  It's not your fault L & L you are just gifted in playing a mean game of temptation that most cannot resist.  Offering large portions and a highly addictive set of seasonings that keeps all of us consistently returning with the hopes of finally catching the Hawaiian Dragon.  Every time I have made the decision to brave an afternoon with L & L it has ended in tragedy.  There is no way that I can avoid ordering the large size, of anything on their menu, and prevent myself from finishing the entire entrée in one sitting. Â
L & L, I love your barbeque but I'm not be trusted with your size "large" portions anymore. Â Today after once again overindulging in your food, I ended up looking like a victim from the above listed game of lawn darts who glared anxiously into the sun for too long hoping to spot his last thrown dart. Â
Taste the ouch, at L & L.
The cuisine of our 50th state draws from a number of diverse culinary traditions - Native Hawaiian, Korean, Chinese, Filipino, Portuguese, Japanese and many more. Hawaiians definitely love their cooking and sharing it with others.
And lucky you - you can taste some of what they have to offer at L&L Hawaiian Barbecue! This Honolulu-based chain has its (rather tiny) metro-area outpost in the Aurora Town Center.
One of the best-known concepts of Hawaiian cooking is the Plate Lunch, where one or more main courses combine with scoops of firm white rice and squishy macaroni salad. L&L offers a number of items to pair with your starches.
Possibilities range from smoky Korean BBQ shortribs (Kalbi), to a moist breaded Japanese chicken cutlet (Katsu) to tender and juicy Kalua Pork. (No, not "Kahlua" like the liqueur - in Hawaiian the word "kalua" generally refers to baking or roasting meats or other items in an underground oven called an Imu).
Other possible options are the Loco Moco (hamburger patties covered with rich brown gravy and then crowned with two fried eggs - is your cholesterol redlining yet?) or, on weekends, the succulent dish known as Lau Lau where rich pork is wrapped in (edible) taro leaves, then in a (not-so-edible) Ti leaf (no, not tea leaf...) then steamed to create something incredibly aromatic and delicious.
Other odds 'n' ends at L&L include Saimin (Japanese/Chinese/Filipino-influenced noodle soup), Malas(s)adas (sugary doughnuts originally from the Portuguese islands of Madeira and the Azores) and the Japanese-inspired Musubi. What is this last item you ask? In Hawaii, Musubi are fingers of rice with a variety of toppings, wrapped in seaweed. Try the ones with Spam (very popular in Hawaii) or Linguiça (Portuguese sausage)!
Grab a tropical fruit juice from the cooler and you're ready to go! Mahalo, and make sure to try L&L.
Yes, yes, yes!
So I am from Portland Oregon where for some reason we have a huge number of Hawaiian BBQ joints. Â I have seriously been missing my plate lunches since I left 6 or so years ago.
Imagine my surprise when we found a little place called L&L in Aurora, of all places. Â We were headed somewhere else for lunch but I could not pass it up and had to see what the huge crowd inside was all about.
Oh man, oooooooh man is this place good. Â I got the BBQ combo so I could try a little bit of everything and my boyfriend got the chicken plate. Â The teri beef is absolutely fantastic, yes it's a little fatty but I just cut that part off and went to town. Â The mac is exactly what it should be, simple, creamy and delicious (and this from someone who usually avoids mayo like the plague). The rice here at L&L is absolutely perfect; sticky, a little sweet and once topped with soy and sriracha, it's a little pile of heaven.
I was heartbroken to see the last cup of ahi poke walk away as I got up to the counter, but we'll just go earlier next time so I can try it.
It's a good drive to Aurora to get this yummy food but well worth the drive. Â I've only had the BBQ Chicken (comes with mac salad *not that great* and rice) but man although the portion is a good size (I even get the smaller portion) I am STUFFED afterwards. Â
I've never had Hawaiian BBQ before and sad that this secret has been kept away from me for practically my whole life...
But I do have to say, L&L is one of the best things I have ever tasted. Â
Don't let the strip mall in the "hood" fool you, it's a damn good place.
This food is down right good. It's like a broken down Panda Express when it comes to things like presentation. And like a broken down Ho Ho's Chinese when it comes to dining area and cleanness.
However! Do not let these two things stop you from eating here, for there are three excellent reasons to go. One, the food is cheap and plentiful. Two, the employees are always very nice. Three, the food is very good, always hot, and as spicy as you like! The only hard choice you have to make when in this shopping area eating is L&L or Fat Burger!
Before I was introduced to L&L I tried to avoid this area like the plague. Poor planning and traffic snarls in droves aside, if I am ever anywhere near Aurora with time to spare I will always plop my ass down at a table to eat a mountain of food at L&L.
Who can resist the creamy, mayonaisey goodness of the macaroni salad? The tasty short ribs that can never be eaten with an ounce of grace? Or maybe it is the huge pile of barbecue beef that makes my mouth water before I even set foot inside. Â I have a confession, L&L I'm hooked on you.
I speak for myself and my fellow Hawaiians/Locals living in Colorado when I say that L&L no ka oi. Â The fact that they serve laulau at this location makes them the bestest in the mid-westest. Â I've lived in Colorado for 6yrs and three of those years I pined for macaroni salad, real saimin, chicken katsu, and loco mocos. Â I had to go all the way to Vegas just to ease my cravings. Â Now I can enjoy my plate lunches in the comfort of my own home. Â
L&L serves the typical plate lunch fare that you would find at most plate lunch places in Hawaii. Â The really large portions compensate for the $6-8 price tag. Â My favorite dish is the roast pork. Â It's crisp roasted pieces of pork smothered in a delicious brown gravy with two scoops rice and a scoop of mac salad. Â Mmmmm gravy! Â I also enjoy their spam musubi. Â FYI - spam musubi is rice shaped into a rectangle with a piece of spam on top and then wrapped in nori (seaweed). Â L&L's adds some flare to their musubis with a layer of teriyaki sauce under the spam. Â Onolicious! Â The loco mocos are good as well, but then again, you can't really mess that one up. Â Words to the Wise: Â Don't expect your food to appear as soon as your order it, especially during the lunch rush. Â This isn't McDonald's, your food is fresh and made to order at L&L's.
L&L's is not for everyone's tastes. Â Most mainlanders find the macaroni salad too mayonnaise intense and bland. Â Us locals like our macaroni salad that way. Â However, L&L's will let you substitute the macaroni salad and/or rice with a tossed salad or french fries. Â
Overall, this place is great! Â Perhaps one of these days they'll open one up in Central Denver...
